Great practice for my 6 year old! I bought this book for my 6 year old who is currently in first grade. Over the past few months, he has learned the crossover and carry over method in both addition and subtraction. He has pretty much worked through the Kumon Grade 2 Addition and Subtraction workbooks. This is a great next step for him. He understands and grasps the concept of adding in the hundreds/thousands; however, with the crossover method I am teaching him how to begin subtracting in the hundreds and thousands. We do daily practice in this workbook and he brings it to school to work in during after-school hours. My plan is to have him comfortably doing this addition and subtraction by the summer and during the summer, so that when he enters second grade in the fall, he will be more comfortable with numbers. I also utilize another book called Daily Math 2nd grade as an additional supplement since it has other daily problems such as (measurements, introduction to multiplication and division, fractions, word problems, etc). No I do not home school my son; however, the curriculum at his current public school is not challenging at all for him especially in the subject of Math. I love the repetition and layout of the book. The problems get progressively difficult as the children work the book. As a previous reviewer said, I wish they were able to combine both addition and subtraction problems together…but I can just print those worksheets out at home for free :).

Awesome My granddaughter loves doing the problems, and it has really helped her in school.

Great Guidance Every summer I buy workbooks for my two boys. This year I chose Kumon, I purchase the whole collection of Grade 4 for my son going into 4th grade and the whole collection of Grade 3 (thinking Grade 2 would be too easy) for my son going into 2nd grade. Later on I found that my younger son had difficulties in some areas in Grade 3 so I bought Grade 2.This has been a great guidance for my kids and I. The books helped my kids learn step by step and I really do see improvements. Its great for me, I simply use the answer sheet to correct and it helps me find out what their weaknesses are. Overall I really like Kumon workbooks compare to previous companies that I have purchased because I do see improvements. Next year I will purchase Kumon again.

Great Repetitive Review We use Kumon workbooks throughout our home school curriculum. I started using Kumon for supplemental learning while my youngest student was in public school. We also participated in the Kumon program at a Kumon Learning Center. When I discovered the Kumon workbooks, I dropped the Kumon program at the center, and used these books at home. It’s a way cheaper alternative to implementing the “Kumon Method” for families, especially during these tough economic times. My daughter loves math. And what Kumon has done with their math program is nothing short of extraordinary. Kumon believes that you start at a level your child is well versed in, and then build slowly from there. And it really works. My third grader already knows multiplication, but this really gives my student a chance review addition and subtraction very well.Kumon helps build confidence in math, and that’s what appeals to me as an educator and parent most. Kumon is also flexible. You could use it to supplement your student’s math program when they come home from school, or you could use it to enhance their home school curriculum. One of the best recommendations for Kumon really comes from my student. We’ve been home schooling for three years now, and I asked my student what math curriculum she prefers the most. She said, “I’d have to say Kumon.” When I asked her why, she replied, “Because it makes math easy.”So, there you go! 🙂

Bridgett – October 3, 2014

Not very thoughtfully printed… The first half of the book is devoted to addition, the second, subtraction. The repitition is good, but I think I’d have preferred if they mixed it up a little. The questions are appropriate for a third grade student and although my daughter hates math, I do think the book has helped her. Having said that, the left side page has a column of questions that’s basically printed into the spine of the book. You can’t see them unless you use brute hand strength to push the book completely flat, and even then it’s hard to write because the paper there is curved. This drives my daughter crazy. I have to admit, it drives me a little crazy as well. Overall, a good workbook.

Janelle Butler – August 4, 2015

It is perfect for “filling in the gaps” for my son I have ordered all the books in the 3rd and 4th grade series…math and reading/writing. After I ordered 2 books, I was so impressed that I wanted them all. It is perfect for “filling in the gaps” for my son. He can work at his own pace and continue learning throughout the summer. We are going to continue with these books throughout the school year. I would highly recommend these books to any parent who wants to help their child make major improvements in reading and math.

eka – February 12, 2013

It is a very good workbook It is a very good work book. My son loves it. This book is a great resource to help your kids if you have time a desire. We use this book as an extra practice to prepare him for school. In terms of skill level it’s fairly well correlated to the public schools curriculum. The repetitive nature of the exercises in this book really helps. We highly recommend it!

Forest Kat – December 31, 2012

Kumon is what we needed! Kumon is what we needed! My kids are homeschooled and we use Saxon, but they needed some more ‘tutoring’ in math. We couldn’t afford private tutors, so a friend of mine suggested Kumon workbooks by grade level. My kids do 2 pages per day. I am so glad we started doing this because we have been able to identify the concepts that they needed more work on. Also, being affilitated with a public charter school, we have to take the STAR tests and I feel like the Kumon books are helping them prepre for that test. Thanks Kumon!

elena – November 29, 2019

Great book Kumon never lets me down.

Dan McKinnon – October 3, 2013

Outstanding Guide For 3rd Graders I supplement my daughters’ regular 3rd grade studies with extra lessons from this Kumon workbook and I feel that it has really helped her out by giving her an extra push in Addition & Subtraction that she wouldn’t be getting without this. We do ~1 lesson a day and I like the amount of content this guide gives and the layout of the problems. The design is pleasant and I enjoy helping her with her studies and make sure to check out all her work.***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Sue Mulford – January 5, 2015

She doesn’t like story problems I was impress with t he quality of the books I ordered. I have a daughter with Down Syndrome and she loves 2nd 3rd grade math. Books are getting harder to find that she enjoys. She doesn’t like story problems. These were great. thanks

snarkysnail – March 14, 2014

For the parent who wants to have your kid practice math independantly My 7 and 5 year old do a page a day along with their homework to help them with their “math facts”. My 5 year old is not one of those math geniuses, but he has been on the Kumon system with his sister for the past year and now does the same math that she does simply because he likes doing the math sheets. My kids practice their math. I get dinner ready. Win Win

Abhi – April 3, 2016

The content is perfect. We thought it might be a little advanced The content is perfect. We thought it might be a little advanced, but probably it right for the age group. And you can always get next level once you child is done with this one.

My 2nd grader uses this book at home! We love this book. Although my son is only in 2nd grade it helps him to practice more complex addition and subtraction problems. As with most things math needs practice and this is just the book for that. We do a few pages every few days just to make sure he is keeping sharp on his skills! A++ in my book!

Jo Lyvette Kelly – August 14, 2014

It is a good book for building on concepts and lots of practice It is a good book for building on concepts and lots of practice. I will say that it did not work that well for my son (ADHD) who does better with stories, hands-on, and different mediums, and shorter focus times.

RMelvin812 – November 24, 2015

Excellent learning material! Very helpful and useful for my 8 yr old daughter who was struggling with Math. She enjoyed using this workbook as something to do when she was bored. With the number of problems per page, it allowed her to get significant practice and improve her overall skills.

IJH – July 10, 2018

Four Stars Great tutor material.

Jo-Anna – May 13, 2015

kumon is great! My oldest is in the actual kumon program so when I saw this I thought it was perfect for my son who is pretty good on math but over the summer needs some busy work. It’s a amazing program and gives the kids confidence in areas where they struggle.

S. B. Scott – January 3, 2014

Great for practice My son is in first grade, but the US educational system is so slow! We gave him this book to work on during his bus ride. He actually asks for it! His goal is to finish it by the end of the school year, placing him at the same level as his third grade friend. Work every penny!

Lauren Boudreau – January 5, 2018

YB – March 15, 2013

Great practice book We bought it for my 8 years old to practice mainly subtraction with re-grouping. He is now familiar with the concept and can perform pretty fast. The book serves its objective – giving children dedicated amount of time to get familiar with certain math operations (subtraction and division)

Chau Edge – May 21, 2015

Great workbook that will enhance your child’s learning Great workbook that will enhance your child’s learning. My 9yr old accelerated through it rather quickly. It is self paced and similar to the material your child would get exposed to in an actual Kumon program.

Emma – July 23, 2014

Kumon method is good My daughter didn’t do very well in her multiple-digit addition and subtraction. Then one of my friends introduced this workbook to us. Like other Kumon books, this one also emphasizes a logical progression and plenty of repetition to reinforce important concepts. Concepts are introduced gradually and built upon one another. At first, my daughter found the sections of advanced level difficult. I asked her to go back to the sections of standard level and do some additional practice and repetition. After she completed the easier sections, she surprisingly found that the advanced level was not so hard. She had progressed though the workbook and mastered earlier concepts that would help with the difficult section. This star system is really good, and Kumon is excellent. I can see my daughter’s progress since we worked together using this book. Her math rank in Beestar’s 3rd grade tests has also risen significantly. I highly recommend this workbook.

It keeps the kids busy in the back seat. would recommend these to any parent that would like their child to excel academically. who doesn’t?? I’ve purhased about a dozen plus Kumon books from amazon already and intend to purchase many more.

Surprisingly good. I bought this for my son who is good at most maths but seems to have a mental block with subtraction. I suspected it would be badly received as it is just pages of sums but it turns out he likes it, we do two pages a day and he enjoys finding out his scores. My only wish is that the answers were easily removable.

Helps Improve Math: Differs from Canadian Curriculum Has helped to improve my grade 2 child’s math abilities.I do not believe that this is Grade 3 curriculum in Canada. (As advertised on the book). My child solves similar problems in her grade 2 classroom.I believe the book is more in line with late Grade 2 Canadian math curriculum. But, it it does help in improving math skills.

Flowing – December 13, 2013

I wouldn’t use any other system but kumon Yes it is repetitive and yes children must do at least one or two pages a day. There is no magic way of learning math, but kumon seems like magic to teachers and other students. My children have used kumon math starting in kindergarten. Every one thinks they are brilliant in math, but they are not. They just do one to two pages EVERY day and they have stayed well ahead of their class every year. My oldest is currently in grade 8 and basically tutoring the rest of the class. The Ontario math curriculum is failing our kids. I would highly recommend kumon workbooks, especially if you can’t afford the expensive monthly kumon fees.

Puff the Magic Dragon – October 5, 2019

Just what we were looking for! My son is working at level 3B and this book is exactly what we were looking for. It gives him plenty of practice. He doesn’t find the task difficult however we recognised that he needed to develop more fluency. And this is exactly what this book is doing for him.I have bought many of the Kumon books (both Maths & English) for my 2 sons, these books never let us down. My younger son who is currently in Reception class is loving the number games books and has become very fluent in numbers upto 120. Currently he is also in love with the Easy Telling Time book which is making him so confident in time reading.

Very good Very good to keep your kids busy in remembering their addition

Douglas – May 24, 2017

Excelente!

Very Helpful for Practicing the concepts The Kumon workbook is very much helpful in practicing the basic maths concept. The practice sums are arranged in a logical way.

José Sánchez Sánchez – May 6, 2013

Addition Worksheets

Welcome to the addition worksheets page at Math-Drills.com where we will add to your learning experience in many positive ways! On this page, you will find Addition worksheets from addition facts and two-digit addition to column addition and addition with games. In the first section, we've included a few addition printables that should help out the beginning student. Teaching addition facts is best done with some interesting teaching strategies.

Some teachers and parents use addition manipulatives to help students understand the basic addition facts. For example, adding groups of "Apple Jacks" (a breakfast cereal) by counting will quickly lead students to understand the concepts of addition. The sooner you can introduce base ten blocks to your students, the better. If you haven't already used them for counting, use them for basic addition and show students how regrouping works.

Addition Facts Tables

kumon worksheets addition

Disputably not a great way to learn addition facts, but undeniably a great way to summarize, addition facts tables are an invaluable resource in any home or school classroom. Addition works very well as a table since the addends can be sequential. Encourage students to look for patterns and teach them a variety of strategies to learn the addition facts. For students who have not yet memorized their addition facts but need to know them for a more advanced math lesson such as adding two-digit numbers, provide an addition facts table to them, so they can quickly look up addition facts. After a while, they will most likely learn the facts through the use of the table and become less reliant on it. To make the tables more durable, print them on card stock and laminate them. They can be displayed on a screen or enlarged and printed on poster paper for whole class use.

Five Minute Addition Frenzies

kumon worksheets addition

Five minute frenzy charts are 10 by 10 grids for addition fact practice. In each square, students write the sum of the column number and the row number.

Called mad minutes or timed drills by some, five minute frenzies are meant to be timed to add a little more excitement to practicing addition facts. They are ideally used to increase a student's ability to recall addition facts quickly which has all sorts of benefits later in their school life including preventing high school teachers from complaining about "how their students can't even add single-digit numbers without using a calculator."

A general goal to achieve would be to complete one chart in less than five minutes and score 98 percent or better, however, we recommend setting personal goals for students based on an initial test. If they are banging their head against the wall after a couple of minutes with only a few questions done, they really shouldn't be completing a timed addition facts drill at the moment. They still have some learning to do. We would recommend breaking out the manipulatives at this point. If they blast through the questions in 1.5 minutes and get almost all of them correct, they are probably ready for something a little more challenging.

One-per-page addition frenzies are not the most efficient use of paper resources, but they are a good starting point especially for younger students who have not quite mastered their penmanship enough to fit their numbers into a smaller chart. They are also great for displaying on screens or monitors for group activities. For example, you might use an interactive white board to fill out the chart.

A wiser use of paper and photo-copy limits, having four charts on a page allows for multi-day practice, collaborative work or through the use of a paper-cutter, a quick stack of practice pages for students who finish early.

Single-Digit Addition

kumon worksheets addition

Most people would agree that being able to add single-digit numbers quickly and in your head is an essential skill for success in math. The various addition worksheets in this section focus on skills that students will use their entire life. These worksheets will not magically make a student learn addition, but they are valuable for reinforcement and practice and can also be used as assessment tools.

The make ten addition strategy involves "spliting" the second addend into two parts. The first part combines with the first addend to make ten and the second part is the leftover amount. The strategy helps students quickly add amounts over ten in their head. For example, adding 8 + 7, students first recognize that they need to add 2 to 8 to get 10, so they split the 7 into 2 + 5. The 8 + 2 makes 10 and 5 more makes 15. The skill can be extended to many situations, for example adding 24 + 9, students recognize that they need 6 more to get to 30 and 9 can be split into 6 + 3, so 24 + 6 = 30 and 3 more makes 33. Continuing on, students can work on recognizing "complements" of other important numbers (see section further down) to develop this strategy further.

Multi-Digit Addition

kumon worksheets addition

A variety of strategies can be used to learn multi-digit addition; it isn't necessary to rely only on paper and pencil methods. Base ten blocks can help students conceptualize addition. Teaching students a mental left-to-right addition skill will help them in future math studies and life in general. E.g. 34 + 78 would be 30 + 70 = 100, 100 + 4 = 104, 104 + 8 = 112. Don't forget about using estimation with these worksheets.

Horizontal addition can encourage students to use mental math or other strategies to add numbers. One of the most common mental math strategies for addition is a left-to-right (also called front end) addition strategy. This involves adding the greater place values first. Other strategies for adding multi-digit numbers include using base ten blocks or other manipulatives, number lines, decomposing numbers and adding the parts, and using a calculator.

Multi-Digit Addition with Grid Support

kumon worksheets addition

Adding with grid support helps students who have trouble lining up place values themselves. Perhaps with a little practice, they might get a better understanding of not only lining up the place values, but why this is done. Pointing out that the 5 in 659 means 50, for example, is useful in helping students understand place value as it relates to addition.

The traditional method is to use a pencil and paper approach, also known as right-to-left addition, where students add and regroup starting with the smallest place (ones in this case) and proceed up to the greatest place. A mental approach might involve students going from left-to-right where the greater place is added first. This is easier to keep track of in your head, but does require the occasional adjustment in previous answers. An example is to add 345 + 678 + 901. First add the 300, 600 and 900 to get 1800, then add 40, 70 and 0 in turn to get 1910, then deal with the 5, 8 and 1 to get 1924. Along the way you had to adjust your total, but keeping a running total in your head is a lot easier than transfering a pencil and paper method into your head.

Games help students develop mental addition skills but in a fun context. For the adding with playing cards worksheets, a Jack is counted as 11, a Queen as 12, a King as 13 and an Ace as 1. Playing math games while enjoying some social time with their friends is a great way to develop strategic thinking and math fluency in children.

Using an adding doubles strategy can help students to process addition questions more quickly using mental math. To use this strategy, students must recognize that the two numbers are close to the same value (usually by one or two). They also must recognize by how much and whether it is greater or less than the first addend. A typical dialogue with the question, 15 + 16, might be, "I see that the second number is greater than the first number by 1. If I double the first number and add 1, I will get my answer. 15 doubled is 30 plus one is 31. 15 + 16, therefore, is 31."

  • Adding Doubles Up to 9 Adding Doubles (Up to 9) Adding Doubles Plus One (Up to 9) Adding Doubles Plus Two (Up to 9) Adding Doubles Minus One (Up to 9) Adding Doubles Minus Two (Up to 9) Adding Doubles Mixed Variations (Up to 9)

Not commonly taught in modern schools, adding in other base number systems can stretch students' minds and have quite a few important applications, especially in technology. For example, you will find binary, octal and hexadecimal systems are quite often used in computer technology. Quaternary numbers can be used in genetics to store DNA sequences. The duodecimal system is sometimes suggested as a superior system to the decimal system

kumon worksheets addition

At Kumon we simultaneously nurture a high level of academic ability as well as the ability to self-learn with our math and language worksheets

The Kumon worksheets used around the world are all based on the same approach. That is, they allow students to steadily advance to higher level material by letting all students begin from a point that they can do comfortably, regardless of their age or grade at school, and by making it possible for each student to study at the “just-right” level, wherein the burden on students is increased little by little. Our worksheet developers at Kumon are constantly learning from children in an effort to improve our current worksheet lineup and also to develop new and better worksheets to provide Kumon students with the best possible learning materials.

Math Program

The Kumon math program sets out to enable learners to master high school level mathematics through self-learning. The worksheets are structured around essential elements for the study of high school level differential and integral calculus such as: calculations using the four operations, equations, factorization, and functions and graphs. The worksheets are also designed to gradually increase in difficulty using small steps so that even students in elementary school or preschool can begin advancing to differential and integral calculus through self-learning. As of June 2023, the math worksheets are provided in eleven different languages for study around the world.

Native Language Programs

The Kumon native language programs set out to enable learners to develop an advanced level of reading ability through self-learning. Students are first exposed to both new and familiar vocabulary. They then learn letters, and in some cases characters, in the context of words and also new words in the context of sentences. Next students develop their understanding of simple sentences, then paragraphs, and systematically advance to the practice of summarizing passages in their own words, which increases their reading comprehension ability. Ultimately, students get to the point where they are able to read classic and contemporary literary masterpieces from around the world, and think critically about the messages they contain. At Kumon we also make use of the Kumon Recommended Reading List (RRL), a list of books from various genres listed in order of difficulty, to help promote reading among students. As of June 2023, the native language programs are provided in eight different languages for study around the world.

Japanese as a native language program

Reading is the key to learning. We want students to have the experience of reading many books from different genres in order to learn about different ways of life and various societies, and in so doing, find out their dreams and aspirations and come up with goals for themselves.

Therefore, the aim of this program is to foster students with advanced reading comprehension skills who can tackle any text that comes their way, and continue to read and develop themselves for the rest of their lives.

Native language worksheets studied in Japan

At Kumon, we use the phrase “advancing beyond school grade level.” In the Kumon Japanese program, this entails students reading and understanding passages of an advanced level. We want students to read a large number of books, but more importantly, our intention is for students to develop the ability to challenge themselves to read books of any difficulty level, or from any genre, and expand the scope of their reading on their own. To gain the ability to do just that, our students develop their reading comprehension ability through worksheet study. The key method used to develop students’ reading comprehension ability is summarization.

Differing from simple summaries where students pick out and write down only the key points of a passage, Kumon summarization involves students taking a paragraph and recreating it in the form of a single sentence in line with its theme, while maintaining the flow of the original passage. When summarizing a passage at Kumon, students use keywords related to its theme, they maintain the nuances unique to the original passage, and use words that they themselves feel are important. Therefore, it is not only necessary that students are able to derive the correct meaning of the passage but they also require a variety of skills, such as the ability to use words and terms correctly and the ability to restructure texts. This process enables students to develop a strong understanding of what it means to read and understand a passage. Through comparing the differences between their summary and the original passage, students realize for themselves the way they understood the passage. By examining and thinking deeply about these differences students hone their reading comprehension ability.

The Kumon Recommended Reading List (RRL) consists of 650 carefully selected publications, from which students and parents can easily choose new books. The selected publications cover a wide range of genres, spanning old and new classic literature from around the world as well as books that are popular among children. The RRL has 13 levels, and on each level there are 50 books arranged in ascending order of difficulty. The worksheets contain various extracts from the books on this list. There are many cases of students who have embarked on a journey into the wide world of reading because they wanted to read the rest of the works that they encountered in extract form in the worksheets.

We hope that through fostering students with advanced reading comprehension skills who can read a wide range of books, these students will be able to increase their knowledge, develop different ways of looking at things, learn how to think deeply, and experience profound emotions, all of which will prove invaluable for children today, as they are the ones who will go on to address the world’s challenges in the future.

Foreign Language Programs

The Kumon foreign language programs set out to enable learners to develop an advanced level of reading comprehension ability. Using audio players, students begin by listening to and repeating basic words and sentences. They then move on to practicing oral reading and systematically learn about English grammar. After students have mastered basic grammar, they begin learning how to read and understand long passages. Students learn many new words and develop advanced reading comprehension ability as they go from reading simple passages to classic literature in different genres. As of June 2023, Kumon provides English as a foreign language programs in 39 different countries and regions. We offer French and German programs in Japan, and we also provide a Japanese program for students in other countries around the world.

English as a foreign language program in Japan

Japan owes its place in the global community to the advances it makes in science and technology and its international trade. With this in mind, Japan needs to address the great challenge of improving its citizens’ English skills. Advanced English skills are a prerequisite in today’s global community in order to be able to do all of the following in English: read large amounts of information in little time, write quickly and efficiently, and discuss issues using logical and persuasive arguments.

English as a foreign language worksheets studied in Japan

Kumon’s English as a Foreign Language program studied in Japan has at its core a method of using English texts in conjunction with Japanese translations to enable students to build advanced reading comprehension skills. Those reading comprehension skills serve as a solid foundation that enables students to go on to further develop their English skills to the high level required to play an active role in today’s global society.

With the Kumon English as a Foreign Language Program students build the following skills: listening; oral reading; vocabulary; ability to write grammatically sound sentences and prose; and English reading comprehension ability. Not only high school students, but also preschoolers and elementary school students come to understand the contents of stories through practicing listening, reciting, and reading aloud by themselves. The written vocabulary and grammar exercises presented along with those stories cover important points for students to gain mastery. Students also increase their English ability smoothly and efficiently with the help of notes in Japanese or Japanese translations designed to aid their understanding and enjoyment of the English sentences and stories that they read.

Through repeated practice in these areas as they advance through the program students gradually build up their listening skills and reading comprehension skills. These skills then serve as an impetus for students to go on to build up advanced English skills that they can put to use on the world stage. You can see some examples of the main areas in which students build skills on the different levels of our English program below.

Levels 3A to C: recitation and oral reading of words, phrases and sentences Levels D to F: writing of words, phrases and sentences Levels GI to III: basic grammar up to junior high school level Levels JI to LII: basic grammar up to senior high school level and reading comprehension skills Levels M to O: an advanced level of reading comprehension skills developed through reading English texts in the original

Prior to commissioning Rumyantsevo and Salaryevo stations, Troparevo will be the ultimate station in the southwestern section of the red line. The architectural image of the station hall and platform is designed as an avenue under trees in the park.

Besides, Moscow Metro extends working time of 14 stations that had reduced schedule. These stations will now open and close at the same time, at 5.30 and 1.00 respectively.

A new timetable will operate at following stations: Cherkizovskaya, Preobragenskaya Ploschad’, Lubyanka, Kropotkinskaya, Park Kultury (the red line); Pionerskaya, Filevsky Park, Bagrationovskaya blue line); Kievskaya and Ploschad’ Revolutsii (dark blue line) and stations Pushkinskaya, Vodniy Stadion, Tretyakovskaya, Kozhuhovskaya. Each of these stations has at least one entrance, which opens later and closes earlier than at other metro stations.

Furthermore, passengers will soon have an opportunity to call a taxi and charge a cell phone at the information desks in the subway. Pilot project on placement of such desks at the stations will be launched in the first quarter of 2015. The first one will appear in the ticket office area at Komsomolskaya station.

In addition, Moscow Metro will renovate navigation at the stations. Dynamic displays with information about emergencies and train arrival waiting time will appear there.

Moreover, the Metro plans to launch a special mobile application, which will contain all the necessary information for passengers next year.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

kumon worksheets addition

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
