By Status.net Editorial Team on November 23, 2023 — 14 minutes to read

Crafting a heartfelt thank you message for a teacher or mentor can make all the difference in acknowledging their hard work and the impact they’ve had on your life. Here are some tips to help you create a meaningful note that truly expresses your gratitude.

First, take a moment to think about the specific things that the teacher or mentor has done for you. This could include lessons they’ve taught, new skills they’ve introduced, or the time and effort they’ve dedicated to your success. Use these thoughts to draft a personalized message that highlights these unique aspects. For example:

Dear Mrs. Brown,

Thank you for your continuous support and guidance throughout the school year. Your patience and dedication in teaching me algebra have made a significant difference in my understanding and confidence. I am truly grateful.

Make sure to provide context in your message. Explain how their support has helped you both academically and personally. Providing concrete examples can strengthen your thank you message and make it more memorable. Here’s an example:

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I wanted to express my gratitude for all the invaluable advice and encouragement you’ve given me during our mentorship. Your insights on pursuing a career in engineering have clarified my path forward, and the time you spent reviewing my college applications boosted my chances immeasurably. Thank you for being such a dedicated and inspiring mentor.

A touch of emotion can go a long way in conveying your appreciation. Don’t be afraid to show your feelings and express how their help and guidance have positively influenced your life. Example:

Dear Miss Lee,

You’re not just a wonderful teacher; you’re also a caring and supportive friend. Your wisdom and kindness have helped me through some tough times, and I’m so grateful to have had you in my corner. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.

27 Teacher Appreciation Ideas to Show Your Staff You Love ‘Em

Gratitude is an attitude.

teacher appreciation assignment

It’s so important to recognize and honor your staff through teacher appreciation. Even the smallest gesture of thanks can go a long way in creating a positive work environment and helping educators love their jobs.

Now we know budgets are tight, and money for extra things often comes out of your own pocket. So we pulled together some of the most creative, least expensive, and best ideas for teacher appreciation. Show your teachers how valuable they are without breaking the bank.

1. Gather letters from your families.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Meeshell Em

Send a request home to students and families, requesting they fill out a form or write a letter to help show appreciation for their teacher. It helps to supply the prompts or questions because they’re more likely to complete the request. It can be simple questions like:

  • Why do you like your teacher?
  • What’s something you’ve learned this year?
  • Share a special story.

Don’t forget to give a deadline for returning the letters. You could also set this up during an open house night to catch families in the moment. You can also use index cards, like in the example above.

2. Create a letters-of-gratitude campaign.

This is similar to the letters from families, but this time, the letter will come from someone close to the teacher. To do this one, put a note requesting a letter in an envelope and then ask your teachers to give it to someone close to them. This can be a spouse, parent, friend, etc. Ask that the letters be returned to the school without the teacher reading it. Then give them out all at once.

Principals who have tried this say it’s such a meaningful experience for their teachers to hear from people they are close to. They get great responses in general and have only had to write fill-in letters a handful of times.

3. Roll out the red carpet.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Kathy Paiml

This idea is from Kathy Paiml. Her PTO literally rolled out the red carpet in the hallway. Every person had a star on the walk of fame, and all the teachers and staff got to walk down the carpet as everyone cheered.

4. Use technology to gather positive comments.

If you’re looking for a tech-savvy way to gather comments, which will definitely save you time, then try using Google Forms. Here are some easy tips for how to use Google Forms  to collect the information you need. You can easily send something out to parents or students to gather notes of appreciation.

5. Celebrate your teachers with a pun.

SOURCE: Learning and Loving It

You can’t go wrong with a good pun. An orange theme, for example, is fun, colorful, and pretty inexpensive to create on your own. Check out these ideas:

  • Orange you glad it’s Friday? (Everything orange)
  • There’s muffin like a great teacher. (Muffins and fruit)
  • We donut know what we’d do without you. (Donuts and coffee)
  • We are fortunate to have you at our school. (Fortune cookies)
  • This might sound cheesy, but I think you’re really grate. (Cheese and crackers)
  • Just popping by to say thanks. (Popcorn and drinks)
  • We scream for how much we appreciate you. (Ice cream sundaes)

6. Wash the staff’s cars.

One principal said they coordinate with their coaches and athletic department to set up a car-washing station during teacher appreciation. It’s free for all teachers, and it gets students involved, too.

7. Decorate their doors.

Loudly and proudly celebrate your teachers by decorating their doors. This costs very little. You just need some time and some parent volunteers to pull it off. One principal told us that he turns his teachers into superheroes, complete with large face cutouts and capes.

8. Let baristas make your teachers coffee.

This one will also take some help from amazing parents, but if you pull it off, teachers will be talking about it for a long time. Set up your own hallway Starbucks, making delicious, caffeine-filled treats for your teachers.

Jennifer Toomey, a teacher at Hawthorne Scholastic Academy in Chicago, did a similar thing, pairing the treats with books to promote reading. Thanks for the idea, Jennifer!

9. Ask local businesses to get involved.

You might be surprised at how much your community will help—all you have to do is ask. Better yet, have a parent helper or PTA member take this one on. Have them send a few emails, asking for lunch, coffee, and other treats.

10. Give your staff passes and coupons to use.

There are so many passes you can offer teachers as a way of saying thanks. We love this photo Jaclyn shared. Here are a few other ideas:

  • Jeans pass
  • Cover a duty
  • Early leave/late arrival

11. Bring in supplies for ice cream floats.

This is such an easy and inexpensive way to say thanks. You really only need ice cream, root beer, and glasses. It’s a memorable treat that you can pull off for less than $20.

12. Ask your parents to cover duties all day or all week.

This one doesn’t cost a thing. It just requires some brave parents and a little coordination. It’s a great way to give ALL your staff a break from a daily duty.

13. Put together a dessert table.

teacher appreciation assignment

Few things say thank you like chocolate and sweets. Make a dessert-all-day table and ask school parents to help supply it. It’s a fun way to let teachers know you’re thinking of them.

14. Ask families to bring in specific treats.

One principal says her trick is to give families very specific requests, none of which are too expensive. For instance, she’ll assign one grade to bring chips and dips, another grade to bring chocolate and candies, and another to bring drinks. Assigning specific tasks has really increased response.

15. Create art with the students.

One principal says she takes over art class for one week and works with students to create a big art piece specifically for their teacher. It’s a collaborative and visual way to say thanks for all that they do.

16. Frame a special sign, saying, or note.

You can buy frames from the dollar store and then easily put in a special quote or saying for your teachers. You can also buy frames from a local crafter or ask parents if they want to help make some. We love this one from Rustic Creations by Laura .

17. Make your own bouquets.

One principal asked students to bring in a single flower, and then they took what they got and created bouquets. (You can get vases at a thrift store or the dollar store.) This was a meaningful way for students to contribute.

18. Bring in a food truck or ice cream truck.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Teach, Eat, Dream, Repeat

This one will be oh-so popular, but it might take a little more cash. You can try to cut costs by asking food trucks to donate or give you a discount. (You never know.) If that’s not possible, have an open call for donations from school families or select members of the community. Let them know what it’s for because they’ll be more likely to throw in a few bucks.

19. Offer room service.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Susan Marchino

This is an idea that we’ve seen a few principals do, including Susan Marchino, pictured above. You put a note on a teacher’s door, offering them room service. You can list treats, like coffee, water, chocolate, fruit, etc. Tell them they can select one or two items and then hang their request on their door by a certain time. Collect the notes. Then stop by and leave the teacher’s requested items before the end of the day.

20. Have a cookout.

If you’re able to bring in parent volunteers to throw a cookout, this is a good way to have a picnic with your teachers and great interactions with teachers and families. Put together a sign-up sheet for supplies and volunteers. If you get it going, it could even become an annual event.

21. Offer smoothies, mimosas, and bloodies.

Kick the morning off right with non-alcoholic breakfast drinks. You can make mimosas using OJ, Sprite, and pomegranate juice. (Thanks for the tip, Brad S.) Then it’s easy to buy a bloody mix and accessories or frozen fruit for smoothies. If you want to make it even more special, splurge on some fun glasses.

22. Offer massages with a mini spa.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Heavy Mellow Mobile Mass

This is going to be so popular. If you’re on a budget, ask the local massage schools if they have students you can use. You might also send an email to parents, asking if anyone is a massage therapist!

Have a sign-up sheet for teachers to get massages, then set everything up in an empty classroom that has soft music, apple cider, and other treats.

23. Rent an ice cream machine for the entire week.

SOURCE: Nakema Jones

You can give your teachers ice cream all week long through the magic of a rental! Set it up so your teachers can have ice cream anytime they want. (Other possibilities include a popcorn machine, snow cone machine, etc.) It will be a really cool experience.

24. Write messages in sidewalk chalk.

This is a fun and easy way to welcome teachers to their day. If you can get kids to school early to help with this one, it’ll go a long way in getting the job done.

25. Ask different clubs and organizations to sponsor a day for teachers.

teacher appreciation assignment

SOURCE: Misfit Macarons

The PTA isn’t the only group you can tap. Send out a note to ask different organizations if they can take on a day to sponsor for teachers. You can create slots (through a Google Doc or a site like SignUpGenius ) for things like breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc. You might also ask people to sign up to create treat boxes for teachers to take home to enjoy, like these beautiful macarons boxes from Misfit Macarons .

26. Play bingo for treats and gift cards.

It can be hard (and expensive) to give everyone on your staff a gift card, but you can still have a fun experience with your staff by playing bingo for prizes. If you can do this over lunch, so teachers won’t have to stay late after school, that’s even better.

27. Create your own note to let them know why you appreciate them.

teacher appreciation assignment

When you do your daily rounds and say good morning to each teacher, take an extra minute to walk into a class and notice what they are doing.  Make a mental note—or better, write it down. Then, when you are back at your desk, send an email right away. Concrete, direct feedback to your teachers is critical to success.

Gratitude for Educators: Teacher Appreciation Ideas that Mean the Most

Teacher appreciation quote

Any time of year is a good time to be thinking about teacher appreciation. But before we begin, take a moment to think of a teacher who’s made a difference in your life. One who went above and beyond. One who truly cared at a time when you needed it. One who believed. One who helped you learn something important about yourself. One who made you laugh. One who inspired you to new heights in your academic journey…

Did you think of someone? Bet you did. Good teachers have the kind of positive and enduring impact that we carry with us always. And for parents, it’s heartwarming to see that kind of connection happening between our kids and their teachers, too.

So, what’s the best way to express our gratitude for those caring and hardworking teachers? We’ve quizzed teachers from preschool to college about the expressions of gratitude and appreciation that have meant the most to them over the years. Turns out, it’s often the littlest things that stand out in the biggest ways.

This post is part of our Caring and Creating during Tough Times series.

Written notes, cards, and letters really do mean a lot to teachers.

One after another, teachers mention written notes, cards, and letters as the type of appreciation they especially like to receive.

“I really enjoy receiving letters or emails from students and families. The fact that they have taken the time to write me a note of appreciation really makes me feel special.” —Jenni L., middle school

“The forms of appreciation I enjoy most are the written notes from students and parents. Knowing that I am making a difference is encouraging.” —Tim B., middle school

“I enjoy cards, letters, pictures, the ones that are personal and show the child knows who I am.” —Terrie M., 4th grade

If you’re not sure what to write in a thank-you note to a teacher, here are some teacher appreciation message ideas and message-starters to get your pen rolling.

The more specific the message of gratitude, the more it means to a teacher.

The appreciation notes teachers cherish and remember most are the ones thanking them for something specific they said or did.

“One note that particularly stood out is a page-long letter from my yearbook editor articulating her many thanks for everything from my inspiring her interest in journalism to allowing my classroom as a safe place to speak honestly and candidly about basically anything. Talk about tears!” —Taylor A., high school

“The thank-you notes I enjoy most are the ones that go beyond ‘thanks for all you do’ to say something specific like, ‘We really appreciate the extra time and attention you’ve given before school and during planning time to help Jack with math.’” —Jason C., 4th grade

“The notes that stand out to me are the ones that let me know that something small was really so much more.” —Terrie M., 4th grade

Also remember educators beyond just classroom teachers when expressing gratitude. Counselors, paras, tutors, therapists, aides, “specials” teachers, administrators, and others enjoy hearing how much they matter, too.

Teachers often keep the thank-you messages they receive.

The nice thing about a written message of appreciation is that it can encourage a teacher in that moment when they receive it…and for years to come.

“There is a special box in my classroom that holds a few, not a bunch, of very special notes written by parents. These are notes of appreciation but more importantly, they contain words of specific ways they have seen growth in their child. When the parent attributes these areas of growth to something I have had a part in, I am humbled and moved.” —Sally D., kindergarten

“I keep all handwritten notes from families in a teacher tub at home. Words of appreciation are something I never forget. It’s particularly meaningful when families get to know you as a person as well as a teacher.” —Alison B., 1st grade

“I keep a folder of the most meaningful notes I’ve received from students and parents over the past 43 years of teaching. Not everything comes up roses and I go back to those notes when times are rough and remind myself why I teach. I love that I am still connected to so many of them and their parents through Facebook, or Christmas cards, or chance meetings, or email. Teachers are blessed by their students and parents.” —Maureen D., high school

Written thank-you messages affirm teachers and remind them why they do what they do.

Just as a certain teacher sometimes finds their way into a student’s life at the right moment, a heartfelt message of gratitude can reach a teacher at the exact moment when they need to hear it.

“Teaching is one of those jobs that you never feel ‘good enough’ at what you are doing. There is always something more that you could be doing. Whenever you receive a form of appreciation—any form—it makes you realize that you ARE doing enough and you are making a difference.” —Erica R., 5th grade

“I immensely enjoy receiving handwritten notes from students, even if it’s a short ‘You Rock’ or ‘I <3 You Ms. A’ on a piece of paper or on my whiteboard. Knowing your students took a minute out of their day to write something to their teacher is inspiring.” —Taylor A., high school

“I keep all the notes I’ve received from kids and parents. When I’m stressed about whether I’m doing my job well or if I’m feeling down/overwhelmed, I can go back and read those again.” —Shannon D., preschool

Messages of gratitude from students can be especially meaningful for teachers.

Appreciation from parents is great, but expressions of gratitude from students really go straight to a teacher’s heart.

“There is one letter that will always stand out, and it was from a student that I had in my first year teaching. I taught this student in 2nd grade and now they were in 5th grade. They had been given an assignment in class to write a letter to a teacher who impacted them. It meant so much to me that after 3 years this student still thought about me and how I impacted their educational journey!” —Erica R., 5th grade

“My first year teaching middle school choir was definitely a stressful year. I followed after a teacher who was very loved, and I felt like it was hard to make connections with some of the students. At the end of the year, an 8th grade student wrote me a handwritten letter telling me how much she had enjoyed class and how much she appreciated all she had learned. It made all the first-year jitters so worth it, and I knew I was on the right path.” —Jenni L., middle school

“I like it when my students write random hilarious things in notes because they are so young. My favorite note says, ‘I like you more than Christmas.’” —Jackie L., elementary school

It’s never too late to thank an educator.

It’s great to appreciate teachers in the moment, but sometimes we need the benefit of time and hindsight to recognize the difference they’ve made. Teachers love hearing from former students, even years down the road.

“My most memorable note of appreciation was from a former student who sent me a Facebook message about five years after he was in my class. What impressed me was that he pointed out very specific things about his work as a student (that he did poorly on), and how as a more experienced professional he then understood why I cared. This made me tear up because it was a sign I was doing the right thing.” —Rebecca T., college

“I recently received a message from a former student asking me the name of a book we read when she was in second grade. As we talked, it meant so much to me to know how much she loved it! (Bonding happens during read aloud time.)” —Carolyn G., Head of School

“I received a note of appreciation from a parent of a child that I had had early in my teaching career. It was 20-25 years after I had her son in class. The fact that his mom was still thinking about me and my influence was certainly surprising. Her letter described many things that she felt had helped influence his future. I still have it. I usually tried to read that letter every year to always remind me of how I touch others.” —Debbie B., 1st grade

Teachers also appreciate gifts of gratitude—especially when it’s something that shows you know them.

Teachers particularly enjoy gifts that are thoughtfully timed, based on what’s going on in their life at the moment, or specifically chosen, based on what they like best.

“The thought behind the gift makes it really special—for instance, a gift card to a favorite restaurant right after conferences so I wouldn’t have to cook.” —Bonnie S., 2nd grade

“I received a journal a couple of years ago from a parent who noticed I used a journal every week in church to write down prayer requests. The fact that the parent noticed something about me, rather than just the fact that I was a teacher made it a special gift.” —LuAnn L., 1st grade

Gifts are also meaningful for teachers when they involve some kind of shared experience or personal touch.

These include team gifts from the class, handmade gifts, or gifts that capture a student at a particular point in time.

“I collect rubber ducks, and I had a student make me a duck painting that said, ‘I’m one lucky duck to have a teacher like you.’ It stood out to me because she had made it herself, and I knew she made it with love.” —Katelyn P., 4th grade

“A bookshelf from my first class really stands out. It was my end-of-the-year gift and it has each student’s handprint and name on it. I’m still using it today.” —Alison B., 1st grade

Teachers understand that parents are busy and stressed.

They definitely don’t expect formal expressions of gratitude, especially during challenging times. But they still enjoy quick texts, notes, or emails to check in or say thanks.

“I’ve mostly received quick emails or texts lately. But I know parents are feeling equally stressed and out of sorts, as we are as co-educators more than ever now, so I don’t feel unappreciated.” —Jason C., 4th grade

“In recent weeks, I have received one letter in the mail from a student and some handwritten cards delivered in learning packets back to the school. It has helped me as a teacher, and parents seem to understand in a new and better way that we are a team in working with their kids. I think we are both learning a new level of respect for each other.” —LuAnn L., 1st grade

“Something that did have a huge impact on me was during a FaceTime call with a student. The parent stepped in at the end of the call and I could tell she was completely overwhelmed and so stressed out. I asked her if I could pray for her right then. Afterwards, with tears in her eyes, she told me ‘thank you.’ I was humbled and moved. I was grateful for being able to do what I do.” —Sally D., kindergarten

In conclusion

Educators do what they do because they’re passionate about it, and they consider the experience of seeing students learn and grow a reward in itself. Still, they do enjoy a little heartfelt appreciation whenever it comes their way. Hopefully, it’s inspiring to you to see how much even a small gesture of gratitude can mean to a teacher. So, thank one whenever you get a chance. They’ll feel great. And you’ll be glad you did!

Even though teachers are surrounded by their students each day, they often lose sight of how important they truly are. Following are twenty teacher appreciation ideas that you can use and modify to help honor the teachers in your life.

Provide Breakfast for All the Teachers In the School

Having a nice breakfast waiting for the teachers in the morning can be quite a welcoming way to start Teacher Appreciation Week. This is quite an easy idea to arrange as a selection of donuts, danishes, and coffee are more than enough.

Give Each Teacher a Gift Card Paid for By Donations or By the PTSA

One year, our school gave out a $10 gift card to Amazon.com to all the teachers. It was enough to buy a paperback and was well appreciated.

Have Students Write a Letter to Their Favorite Teacher

One way to incorporate teacher appreciation within the classroom is to have students write a letter to their favorite teacher. Then you can arrange for this to be delivered either within the school or by post to a teacher at another school.

Have Students Write a Poem About Their Favorite Teacher

One Language Arts teacher at our school had students write a poem for their favorite teacher. This was given a grade, just like any other poetry assignment. The poem was then delivered to the teacher.

Donate to a Charity on Behalf of the Teachers

This idea works especially well in certain circumstances. For example, if a teacher recently suffered through breast cancer, then donating a sizable sum to the American Cancer Society in the name of all the teachers of the school would be a wonderful way to honor them. Alternatively, the teachers could vote concerning which charity they'd like the donation to go to.

Cater a Lunch

Having a lunch catered with non-cafeteria food can be quite a treat. One year, Outback Steakhouse donated an entire lunch for the school personnel. Even something less fancy can still be quite memorable for the teachers.

Have a Massage School Provide Chair Massages All Week

Massage schools are quite willing to charge cut rates in order to give their students practice. The massage students can set up in the teacher work area throughout the week. Then the teachers can sign up and get a chair massage during their planning periods and lunch.

Create a Free Raffle for the Teachers to Participate In

Have businesses and parents donate prizes and then give out free tickets to the teachers so that they have a chance to win a nice prize.

Create an Individual Award for Each Teacher

This works best if the administration is involved and personalizes a reward for each teacher. However, even if it is not personalized, teachers can be given a certificate and a small recognition gift at an assembly before the school.

Have All the Teachers' Cars Washed During the School Day

This is another well-appreciated gesture. Have a local company or just a group of students wash all the teachers' cars during the school day.

Allow a Casual Dress Day or Week

If the administration agrees, teachers always enjoy the chance to dress in casual clothes for one or more days during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Have Food Treats Available Throughout the Day

You can set up a central location like the teacher workroom and have treats like donuts, cakes, cookies, and other treats available all day long so that students can come during their planning periods.

Place a Note and Candy In Each Teacher's Mailbox

You can place a special note of appreciation along with some candy in each of the teacher's mailboxes so that they find it first thing in the morning.

Give a Bouquet of Flowers to Each Teacher.

Having fresh flowers delivered to each classroom can be quite a lovely gesture. These can include a special poem or note of appreciation.

Provide Recognition Awards Based on Nominations.

School personnel and students can nominate teachers for special recognition awards to be given out during an assembly in honor of the teachers.

Give Each Teacher a Motivational Book

Buy and distribute motivational or inspirational book for each of the teachers. This can be especially nice if there is a special inscription for each teacher.

Have Students Perform a Talent Show In Honor of the Teachers

You can organize the students to have a talent show for the teachers at an assembly during the school day.

Make a Starbucks Run

Have the teacher order their choice of coffee or tea from Starbucks to be delivered at lunchtime. This can take some coordination, and it works best with a smaller faculty.

Have the Administration or Staff Cover One Class for Each Teacher

If the administration and support staff is willing, then each teacher can have a class covered for one period in order to give them a little extra planning or personal time.

Give an Engraved Item to Each Teacher

You can go order an engraved item through a company like Things Remembered or just a local trophy shop. This can be a paperweight or a picture frame that has been etched to commemorate Teacher Appreciation Week.

Why write a gratitude note to your teacher, how to write a thank you note to a teacher, sample thank you notes for teachers, teacher appreciation quotes.

Teachers, despite working about 53 hours per week on average, get very little credit for all their hard work. They’re the ones who spent extra time in and out of the classroom to try and make a difference in each student’s life. They lesson plan, craft decorations and projects, and even use their own money to buy supplies for their classroom that otherwise wasn’t allocated to them. It’s thanks to teachers that we learn, develop, and find specific interests and passions.

For all these reasons (and more) it’s important to take the time to let teachers know just how much they’re appreciated. Saying “thank you” may seem minor, but sometimes it can make a big difference. Whether you have a child in elementary school or middle school, or you’re in high school wanting to share your appreciation for a great teacher or role model at school, a thank you note is the best way to share how much you appreciate the special teacher in your life. By writing a heartfelt thank you card to your wonderful teacher you can let them know all their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. So if you’re ready to start, follow our guidelines for writing thank you notes for teachers below:

When you’re ready to start writing your thank you, make sure to find appropriate personal stationary . Simple cards that say “Thank you” or school themed stationary are perfect for your handwritten note. Or, you can type out a thank you card customized with a favorite photo of you and your fantastic teacher. Once you have your card, start with the steps listed below:

  • Address the teacher by their proper name. Make sure you’re certain whether the teacher prefers to go by “Mr.” “Mrs.” “Miss” or “Ms.” Use this title on both the envelope and inside the card.
  • Start off with a greeting. Some appropriate greeting might include “Dear,” “To,” or just the teacher’s name followed by a comma.
  • Describe what they did that you are thankful for, and how it helped you. Maybe it was simply spending extra time after class to help your child work through a math problem. Or maybe it was something much bigger, like helping you through a difficult time of your life or providing extra support throughout the school year. Whatever it was, tell them why it mattered to you.
  • Don’t forget to say the words “Thank you!” These two simple words can easily be forgotten in the midst of writing a long letter, but it’s important to have them on the page.

All the best,

  • Warm Wishes,
  • Thank you again,

Sample Appreciation Notes from Parents to Teacher (Daycare, Kindergarten or Preschool)

Thanks in advance to my child's teacher for undoing all the mistakes I've made this summer. (funny thanks to teacher message.)

Dear Beatrice,

Thank you for helping to make kindergarten such a positive experience for Billy. With all of your patience, creativity, and love, Billy has achieved a lot this year. He has started off on the right foot by having you as his teacher.

Thank you, Beatrice. You have made a great difference for all of our children. Because you care so much about them, you have directed them to trust themselves in all that they do and to become all that they dream.

With sincerest appreciation,

Let’s Hear it for the Coach: Appreciating Your Child’s Coach or Sports Mentor with a Note

Dear Coach Jackson,

We want to express our thanks for making our son, Tim Findley, feel a part of the volleyball team this year. If you recall, Tim transferred into the district in late October just after you had officially ended try-outs. You agreed to make an exception and let him try-out for the team the following week, and fortunately, you selected him for the starting line-up. That exception, in itself, could have created jealousies among other students.

We, as well as Tim, feared that might be the case. But as the season began, you planned some very important team-building, “bonding” experiences for the boys as you traveled to various tournaments to scout the opposition. Those trips especially gave the team members a chance to get to know Tim quickly one on one off the court. Those opportunities made the transition much easier for him in the new school.

And by the way, I might add that his grades have reflected a comfortable adjustment as well.

As you may have guessed, changing schools in the middle of the year is never a good situation for any student, but for an athlete, it can be disastrous. Such was not the case for Tim this year, thanks to you . We do appreciate your constant encouragement, your competent coaching, and your efforts to see that the college scouts take a look at your athletes. What more could parents ask?

Tutor Time: Give a Thank You Note to a Child’s Private Instructor or Tutor

Dear Michael,

Bruce has been taking swim lessons for three years, but it wasn’t until he enrolled in your class that he finally conquered his fear of water. I really appreciate your being so patient with him and working so hard to boost his confidence. The additional instruction you gave him after class really made a difference. Bruce is already looking forward to taking your Level 4 class next summer.

Kindest Regards,

Special Circumstances: A Thank You Note to a Child’s Teacher, From the Parents

Dear Ms. Philly,

We so much appreciate the special attention you have given to Kelly while he has been hospitalized off and on throughout the year. As you know, such extended absences can play havoc with a child’s relationships with other students, and you have been particularly sensitive to making Kelly feel a part of the group when he was able to be in class.

Specifically, I want to thank you for the several occasions when you gave the other children time to make cards and write notes to Kelly. Not only were you teaching your fourth-graders writing skills, you were teaching them to care about other people. That, I’m sure, is a direct reflection of your own personal commitment to your students.

And what a wonderful idea to record their class parties and special days to send home for Kelly. Although he sometimes watched through tears of disappointment that he could not be part of the festivities, those tapes kept him in touch with his friends during a very difficult time.

I’m sure teachers hear complaints from time to time, but I wanted you to know that we in our household and neighbourhood are certainly singing your praises. Thank you so much for your dedication.

Why Send A Thank-You Note to Your Teacher?

A hand-written thank-you note to your teacher at the end of the term is the best time for parents and children to extend their appreciation for what invaluable service the teacher has provided over the school year.

Teachers and teaching assistants spend a substantial amount of time with their class and have a profound influence on students, not only imparting curriculum knowledge, but teaching civility and morality as well.

Do Teachers Actually Like Notes from Students?

That’s an Affirmative, folks. Despite Teacher wish-lists reflecting ever-shrinking district budgets and resources, asking for all kinds of classroom supplies and things for extra-curricular activities, your teacher wants to be appreciated, and to hear about it. From you.

So yes, still, in this century even, teachers continue to extol the virtues of a good old-fashioned thank-you note . [ source : How to Thank a Teacher., George Lucas Educational Foundation ]

So give your teacher what they want. Or, if a teacher has gone the extra mile for you and others, nominate them for an award .

Don’t Stress, Keep it Simple and Write From the Heart

When writing a thank-you note to a teacher, don’t stress — keep the note short and sweet, but express your gratitude with sincerity. A heartfelt note means a lot to a teacher, and validates their efforts in class to effect positive change or to beneficially influence the lives of their students.

It’s so easy to get stuck trying to compose the perfect thank-you note for your teacher, but it’s more important to simply get something written down. Yes, words are necessary and important, but your gratitude shines through in the act of handing the note over, too. A poll asking teachers what gifts they appreciate most reveals that many teachers continue to extol the virtues of a good old-fashioned thank-you note.

Many days, that’s all we need — to connect .

You’ll find great pleasure in being the one to reach out and thank someone first, and know that years later, your teacher will find your note in an old dusty box of keepsakes, and know that it was all worth it.

How to Write a Thank You Note for Teachers

Thank you notes for teachers can be super simple. A hand-written letter or a short note on a store-bought card is enough to make any teacher's day. We even have some Printable Teacher Appreciation Cards that you can print at home.

Or you might like to hand-make a card. You can use simple cardboard and paper to create a very simple card with a personal touch. If you like, you could hand-draw a picture or create a unique piece of art. Pre-school teachers or art teachers particularly appreciate the creativity of their students.

The main thing is that you have put the time into showing your gratitude. A personalized note will make your teacher feel noticed and valued. Many teachers will treasure the special thank-you notes that they receive from their students for years to come.

While it's not essential, you may like to include a gift to show appreciation to your teacher. Some gift ideas include a hand-drawn picture, snacks your teacher loves to eat, something cool for their class like memo pads or special pens, or a coffee gift card from the local coffee shop.

The best teachers make such a huge difference in our lives, and these acts of appreciation will let them know how grateful we are.

At a glance:

  • We send a heartfelt “THANK YOU!” to all the teachers around the world for the incredible work you continue to do, finding new ways to engage and inspire students despite continuing challenges and uncertainty.
  • During remote and hybrid learning, teachers have innovated by integrating technology and learning to engage students. 82 percent of educators agree that this past year accelerated the pace at which technology has driven innovation in teaching and learning.
  • As schools reimagine learning, several key elements are being brought together to form a holistic approach to learning: student centricity, skills focus, social learning, safety and security, and scalability. There are several technologies that are critical to support learning, including collaborative online environments, analytics and feedback tools, and inclusive, immersive experiences that support deep understanding of complex concepts.
  • To further support teachers and students on this journey, today we’re announcing new apps and features including Reading Progress, which is designed to personalize learning and boost student success.
  • From new features like Group Assignments and third-party app integrations in Microsoft Teams, to a more seamless connection with learning management systems (LMS), we are announcing 30+ additional enhancements that empower educators and support students in their classroom experience.

Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day, and I’d like to start by expressing my personal thanks and gratitude for everything teachers do. Despite the challenges of the past year, you continue to show compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to each student and their individual learning journey.

For the past year, teachers have leveraged technology in innovative ways to keep students engaged. Technology went from being a temporary lifeline to facilitate connection in remote and hybrid learning, to a fully integrated part of many virtual and in-person classrooms. According to a recent YouGov survey commissioned by Microsoft, 71 percent of K-12 educators say technology has helped them improve their instruction and expanded their teaching capacity.

To continue to support teachers and students, today we’re introducing new tools and updates designed to support the five key areas that help teachers create a holistic learning environment and move education forward: student centricity, skills focus, social learning, safety and security, and scalability.

Enabling student-centered learning with Reading Progress

In remote and hybrid learning, studies show that reading skills have declined for some students. In order to reverse learning loss, educators are seeking ways to evaluate where their students are, and help them advance at their own pace. We are introducing a new, free tool to support learners in reading.

Introducing Reading Progress

With Reading Progress, educators can:

  • Save time by creating reading fluency assignments for either the entire class or for individual students to complete independently. Teachers can also review assignments quickly and accurately with built-in auto-detect features for the English language (with adjustable pronunciation sensitivity) that analyze results. The tool also allows teachers to jump to any part of the recording to review detected words and passages.
  • Visualize reading progress  thanks to integration with the Education Insights dashboard. Educators can see a holistic view of students’ progress with trends and data, from accuracy rate and correct words per minute, to mispronunciations and omissions for individual students or the entire class. Insights provides actionable feedback educators can use to guide class progress, and identifies areas for one-on-one attention. Educators can also share data and examples with school-approved literacy coaches, speech pathologists, tutors, and parents.
  • Engage students in independent practice  on their own time. Using both audio and video, students can work at their own pace, record as many times as they’d like, and make progress without pressure. The built-in Immersive Reader also helps provide accessibility and clarity.
“Reading Progress is built on the solid scientific foundation of oral repeated reading and close monitoring by the educator. It allows educators to provide personal attention to each student while at the same time dealing with a whole classroom full of students.” — Tim Rasinski, Professor of Literacy Education at Kent State University

Available ahead of the next school year, Reading Progress is free for all students and teachers using Microsoft Teams for Education, and is compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Announcing new tools for student engagement in the classroom

We’re enhancing Teams and other tools to help educators unlock digital experiences that complement and enrich in-person learning. These new, free offerings will be available ahead of the next school year and were inspired by insights from education experts, system leaders, educators, and students alike.

  • Group Assignments:  Educators will be able to organize their students into assignment groups so they can work together to create, collaborate, and submit the same work, allowing students to experience the power of teamwork firsthand.
  • Use your favorite apps in Assignments:  Teachers know that some apps really create that “a-ha” moment, engaging students, and inspiring deeper learning. Educators will now be able to issue assignments from a variety of third-party apps directly in Teams, saving time and increasing student creativity.
  • Calendar integrations:  New calendar integrations allow students to see when their classes are and when assignments are due in their Teams and Outlook calendars. This way, students can see all the important information—where they need to be and what they should do to keep learning—in one place.
  • LMS updates:  To help save time for educators and create a more seamless experience, Microsoft is working with leading learning management system (LMS) providers such as Instructure and Blackboard to deepen and improve integrations between the LMS and Teams, Teams meetings, and OneDrive. Additionally, our LMS partners are working with Microsoft to bring their own unique capabilities into Teams.

Making learning more engaging and fun

Educators know that immersive experiences deepen learning, and they’re always seeking different ways to keep students actively engaged.

Our recent YouGov study revealed that 80 percent of educators believe resources that have a gaming component increase student engagement and deepen understanding of various subjects. To provide more opportunities for students to play and learn inside and outside the classroom, we’ve added some new features to Minecraft: Education Edition.

A three column graphic displaying three data points in blue, green, and purple.

  • Enrich the Minecraft: Education Edition experience with Teams and Flipgrid:  Based on input from educators, we’ve added the ability for Minecraft: Education Edition to integrate seamlessly with Teams. Within a Minecraft world or lesson, educators can now embed a Flipgrid topic, Forms quiz, or assessment tool using new resource links. Students in a Minecraft lesson can open a Flipgrid Topic, record and share their creation, and invite others to join a world they’ve created—with just a few clicks.
  • Minecraft: Education Edition for Camps and Clubs:  We’re also introducing Minecraft for Camps and Clubs, which allows learners to use Minecraft: Education Edition outside the classroom. Beginning this summer, camps, clubs, homeschool organizations, and nonprofits can purchase licenses for Minecraft: Education Edition to support critical thinking, collaboration, and game-based learning for all ages. This summer, Microsoft Stores will host several amazing camps and training sessions using Minecraft: Education Edition.

Supporting student well-being

Emotional well-being is key to student success, and research shows that approaches to support student well-being are in high demand, but low supply. i  After the disruptions of the last year, it’s even more important that educators understand the complexities students face, their emotional state, and their motivations in order to help them navigate challenges. ii

In our recent YouGov survey, we found that 81 percent of educators feel it is very important to check in regularly with students to find out how they are feeling.

Technology can play an important role in helping teachers connect with and better understand their students, as well as facilitate students’ development of social-emotional skills. These new tools are designed to do just that.

Reflect , a free app in Microsoft Teams, provides a way for educators to create regular check-ins with individual students or classes to let students share how they are feeling. It helps students identify and label their emotions, and can build students’ emotional vocabulary and improve their ability to recognize and understand how their emotions may impact their learning. In addition, it can help teachers better identify the needs of individual students.

Embedded tools in OneNote and Teams , such as praise badges and sticker packs, can also help students and educators feel more connected and foster growth of effective relationships. We’ve heard from educators that Flipgrid has been invaluable over the past year, helping build students’ confidence and helping educators facilitate valuable learning conversations in and beyond the classroom.

Enabling secure classrooms

With more learning taking place outside the physical classroom, the increase in digital traffic and connected devices presents new challenges: from malicious attacks, to uninvited guests in the digital classroom. And as students return in-person, physical safety is also essential.

To support students’ safety in both digital and physical spaces, we’re introducing Supervised Chat in Teams. Available later this May, this feature will allow designated educators to initiate chats with students while preventing students from starting new chats unless an appropriate educator is present. Supervisors are not allowed to leave chats and other participants are not allowed to remove them—meaning students can engage in secure discussions, enabled and monitored appropriately by school staff.

Teachers’ insights and ideas are driving positive changes in education

When schools moved online last year, teachers made—and continue to make—superhuman efforts to help all students stay engaged in learning. They identified and filled gaps, found ways to connect with everyone in their classes, worked together to address challenges, and developed strategies to transform education for a new era.

In our YouGov survey, more than eight in 10 educators told us that the past year has shown that learning is not bound by a specific time and place, and 82 percent said technology has accelerated the pace of innovation in teaching and learning.

Actually, it’s teachers who have proven that learning can happen anywhere, and teachers who led the acceleration of innovation in education, supported by technology. Once again, THANK YOU to teachers everywhere. You have made an incredible difference in students’ lives by keeping them going throughout all the change and uncertainty, connecting with them, and inspiring them to be creative, confident, and optimistic whether they’re learning in a physical classroom, at home, or somewhere else.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day…and THANK YOU!

Teacher Appreciation Week is typically celebrated the first week in May, so be prepared with these practical teacher appreciation ideas from students.

Our teachers do so much for our children, so teacher appreciation is a great way to thank them and serve them for all the hours and energy they put into helping our kids have a good and successful year.

As a former middle school teacher, I can tell you that it is so nice to receive ANYTHING from your students, at all.  I remember how thoughtful it was when students would give me a candy cane, or a pen they had made into a flower out of duct tape, especially because I knew they had multiple teachers, and therefore didn’t need to get me anything at all.  I felt loved and valued, when students and/or parents, would show me any appreciation at all.

This quote says it perfectly, “Teaching is not just a job.  It is a human service, and it must be thought of as a mission,”  -Dr. Ralph Tyler.  Although our teachers are being paid for a job, what a great service they are still performing, as they teach with compassion and enlighten our youth. Let’s show our teacher’s how much we appreciate them.

This is a blog post on teacher appreciation ideas from students.

1. Free Homemade Gift

A card, or drawing from your child would be great. If you have rice/wheat/beans at home and some fabric, you could sew together a microwaveable heating pad. One year my daughter got out the craft bin and glued a bunch of things together to make a snow globe.  Her teacher loved it.

2. Giftcards

If you want to get your teacher something special, that they will really use, and really want, the safest thing to get is a gift card. Here are some of our favorite gift card ideas: a local ice cream shop, local drink shop, local cookie shop, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Target, Amazon , Walmart, local movie theater, or anywhere you know that your teacher likes to shop.  We once lived in a city that had a juice/smoothie shop called “Roxberry.”  It was fun to make a cute saying out of the name and give a $5 gift card to each of my kids’ teachers, “Your class ROX-BERRY much!” Be creative.  Check out our free printables to go along with your gift cards.

3. Classroom Supplies

Many districts are having budget cuts, and more and more teachers are using their own money to purchase things like classroom supplies.  Therefore, classroom supplies would be some great teacher appreciation ideas.  Some excellent ideas for classroom supplies include whiteboard markers, sharpies, pencils, gluesticks , crayons , markers , scissors , or colored pencils.

6. Label Maker

Another thing I would have loved to have is a label maker.  There are so many closets and bins full of things in a classroom, that being able to label them quickly would really make things easier for a teacher. Grab one for yourself while you’re at it!

As a teacher, I had sticky notes everywhere! Your teacher would love having some cute shapes ones, or lined sticky notes, to help with reminders and notes to students or parents.

25. “Things my Student Said” Quote Book

Looking back, I wish I would have kept some sort of journal of my days as a teacher.  This quote book would be hilarious for any elementary teacher to keep track of all of the cute and funny things their students say, but I would have loved it as a middle school teacher as well.  Another option would be this Middle School Teacher Journal .

Teacher Appreciation Letter

Teachers are absolutely awesome. They’re the ones who help us learn and grow into smart, capable adults. They work super hard to make sure students understand all the stuff they’re teaching them, and they’re always there to lend a helping hand when students need it.

Sometimes, we forget just how much teachers do. They put in tons of extra time and effort, grading papers and staying late to help with clubs and extra curricular activities. And let’s not forget that they often have to put up with a lot of attitude and sass from students!

They definitely don’t get paid enough.

That’s why it’s so important to say thank you to teachers. They deserve to know how much we appreciate them and all their hard work. When we thank our teachers, it shows them that we’re grateful for everything they do and that we value the time and effort they put into teaching.

So, let’s make sure to give our teachers a big thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week takes place the first full week of May. While a great teacher gift or gift card is always a must you can go the extra mile and make it a more thoughtful gift by adding a note of thanks. This personal touch goes a long way in letting your favorite teacher know just how amazing they are.

Teachers deserve our thanks for all they do. Learn how to write the best teacher appreciation letter that they cherish for years to come! | We Three Shanes

What is a Teacher Appreciation Letter?

A teacher appreciation letter is a letter written to express gratitude and thanks to a teacher for their hard work and dedication. It is a heartfelt message that acknowledges the teacher’s positive influence and contributions to the student’s academic and personal growth.

Teacher appreciation letters can be written by students or parents. They can be given as a gift, sent via email, or delivered in person. While teacher appreciation week or the end of the year are probably the most popular times to give one of these letters, they can be given anytime.

Just imagine how much of an impact a letter would have if a teacher received one after a noticeably tough time in the class room one school day. This is something older students can look out for.

And don’t forget other staff members who work for the school community, like lunch monitors, teacher’s assistants, custodians, nurses, and front of school staff. The school can’t run without them so consider writing them a note of appreciation as well.

In general, teacher appreciation letters should be sincere, genuine, and thoughtful. They should focus on the positive impact that the teacher has had on the student and should be written in an appreciative tone. A well-written teacher appreciation letter can be a powerful way to show gratitude and acknowledge the important role that teachers play in shaping kids lives.

Ideas to Include in a Teacher Appreciation Letter

A letter to a teacher is pretty simple to write if you just put a little thought into it. But if you’re a little stumped on what to write then here are some ideas you can include in a teacher appreciation letter:

  • Begin the letter with a sincere message expressing your appreciation and gratitude towards your teacher. You can start by addressing them by name and thanking them for their hard work and dedication.
  • Share specific things a teacher has done to make a difference in your life. Think about the past year and how the teacher has helped you grow and develop, both academically and personally. You can talk about the first day of school, a specific lesson, activity, or project that the teacher led that had a lasting impact on you.
  • If the letter is coming from a parent, think about the ways your child has grown this year whether it be a new skill or social behavior and highlight how the teacher had an impact on that progress.
  • Highlight the teacher’s strengths, skills, and qualities that have inspired and motivated you. You can talk about how the teacher’s enthusiasm, creativity, or dedication to their work has made a difference in your life.
  • Talk about how the teacher has gone above and beyond to support and encourage you. You can mention instances where the teacher provided extra help or guidance, maybe during a difficult time, or went out of their way to make sure you felt included and valued.
  • Conclude the letter with thanks and good wishes, and reiterate how much you appreciate the teacher’s hard work and dedication. You can also express your hopes that the teacher continues to inspire and motivate others in the future.

Remember that the most important thing is to be sincere and genuine in your message. A well-written and thoughtful teacher appreciation letter can be a powerful way to show gratitude and recognize the important role that teachers play in our lives.

Examples of a Letter of Appreciation for Teachers

Here are a couple of examples of what a teacher appreciation letter could look like:

Dear Ms. Johnson,

I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for all that you do. Your passion for teaching and commitment to your students is truly inspiring, and I feel so fortunate to have had you as my teacher this year.

From the first day of class, I knew that I was in good hands. You created a warm and welcoming environment that made me feel comfortable and supported. Your enthusiasm and creativity were infectious, and your ability to explain difficult concepts in a clear and concise way was truly impressive.

I am so grateful for the many ways that you have supported me this year. Whether it was staying after school to help me with a particularly challenging assignment, or taking the time to provide thoughtful feedback on my work, you always went above and beyond to help me succeed.

I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from you this year. You have inspired and motivated me to do my best, and I will always remember the lessons that you have taught me.

Thank you again for everything that you do. Your hard work and dedication are appreciated more than you know, and I am grateful to have had you as my teacher.

Here’s an example of a teacher appreciation letter from a younger kid:

Dear Mrs. Brown,

I am writing this letter to say thank you for being the best teacher ever! I really love coming to school every day because I know that you will be there to teach me new things.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the things you do for me. You are always so kind and patient, and you always make sure that I understand everything that we are learning. I really like the way you explain things and make learning fun.

I also like all the extra things you do to make us feel special. I love it when you put stickers on my work or give me a high-five when I get an answer right. It makes me feel really proud of myself!

Thank you for being such a great teacher and for always making me feel like I can do anything. I am really excited to keep learning from you.

(Child’s name)

The following sample is a letter from a parent:

Dear (Teacher’s Name),

I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the work that you do every day to support my child, (Child’s Name), in their education. As a parent, I am grateful for the dedication, passion, and patience that you bring to the classroom each and every day.

Your commitment to teaching has made a significant impact on my child’s academic progress and overall well-being. (An example would be great here. Like: I have noticed them reading more at home and really enjoying books more.) Your efforts in creating a nurturing and positive learning environment have helped my child feel safe, supported, and motivated to learn. Your creativity in delivering lessons and engaging activities have made learning fun and exciting for them.

I also want to thank you for your consistent communication with me, whether it be through emails, phone calls, or notes in my child’s backpack. Your regular updates on their progress, successes, and areas of improvement have helped me stay informed and involved in my child’s learning journey.

Once again, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your hard work and dedication to my child’s education. You are truly making a difference in their life and we are lucky to have you as their teacher.

Include the Name

Use the teacher’s given name when referring to them. Make sure you are aware of the teacher’s preferred term, which may be “Mr,” “Mrs,” “Miss,” or “Ms.” Use this heading on the card’s inside and the envelope. Also, remember to add a comma after you address them (e.g., Dear Dr. Williams,).

Start With a Gratitude Mission Statement

What is the intent of this letter? Don’t allow your heartfelt appreciation to be lost in the writing. Start your letter by stating why you are writing it. Make sure to end it with a clear expression of gratitude. “Dear,” “To,” or simply the teacher’s name with a comma are some suitable salutations. However, you can also take help from Assignment helper USA if you are unable to give the right start to your thank you note.

Give Specific Adoration

Describe your teacher’s special traits and the reasons why their effort is so priceless. It might have been just taking additional time after school to work with you on a math problem. Or perhaps it was something far more significant, like supporting you during a trying period of your life. Tell them why it mattered to you, whatever it was. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be lengthy. It just needs to be accurate and honest.

Include a Beautiful Ending

Simply restate your reasons for appreciating your teacher to end your letter, then select a suitable sign-off. It should be sufficient to say “With thanks,” or “Sincerely.” Again, don’t forget to end your sentence with a comma. A suitable sign-off could be any of the following:

  • All the best,
  • Warm Wishes,
  • Thank you again,

Give your thank you notes to your teachers a personal touch to make them stand out in their minds. Here is how you can do so:

  • Add a motivational quote: This is a particularly fantastic idea if you are composing a thank you note for an English or History professor. Put a line from the reading you did in class that you found particularly memorable.
  • Add a joke: Make fun of a concept you studied in class. Make a joke that pertains to the situation. Alternately, share a humorous memory you have from that particular class.
  • Narrate a scenario: Talk with your teacher about your first day of school or how you felt both before and after a challenging exam. Give them a positive image of their class from your perspective. Tell them whether your opinion of them has improved over time in a positive way.

Also, make sure your remarks connect with your teachers as you compose the thank-you notes. This will make your thank you note looks even more real.

Celebrate This Teacher Appreciation Week with Video

teacher appreciation assignment

We appreciate teachers every single day. Our mission is to provide the tools they need to position every single student for success every day.

And while it doesn’t have to be Teacher Appreciation Week to show them love, it is a nice way to celebrate a job well done as they inch closer to a well-deserved break. However, you might be struggling to find a unique way to show your appreciation for a teacher — or maybe even an administrator, coach, or a student!

To help, we’ve put together a guide that any Screencastify user can use to quickly create, edit and share a video that shows just how much you appreciate someone during this Teacher Appreciation Week. You can also click here to use and share this visual template!  👈

Before You Start

Choose a teacher to appreciate 👏.

The first thing you’ll want to do is select the teacher that you want to celebrate, of course! You’ll also want to think of a few things that you wanted to give a shout out to from the past school year or longer. Here are some examples:

  • How long have they been teaching
  • Share a favorite memory
  • List a word or two that describes them

Decide what to show on your screen 💻

Next, you’ll want to decide what to show on your screen. Maybe you have photos of the teacher or a video that had special meaning or made an large impact. Or maybe it’s an assignment or feedback that you received that resonated.

In any case, you can share whatever you would like on your screen and talk about why it was special to you. You can

  • Record your screen and a voiceover
  • Record the video with your webcam embedded
  • Choose the webcam only if you’d like to record only yourself

Record and edit: Create the perfect video!

Getting set up 🎙.

Once you’ve decided how you want to celebrate this Teacher Appreciation Week, the next step is to prepare your physical environment.

Here is an article that shares some of our best tips for creating an amazing screencast , as well some of our favorite reasons to use video!

Celebrate with drawing tools ✍️

When you’re recording your awesome video, be sure to toggle on the drawing tools that can be used to — you guessed it — draw on your video! You can also add:

  • Stickers ⭐️
  • Fireworks 🎇

Top it off with edits ✂️

After you’ve recorded your video with a strong message and any cool effects you might want, it’s time to edit your masterpiece and ensure it looks the way you want it. You can cut and trim the video as much as you need, or add text-box shout outs or closed captioning and anything else you want to make the recording perfect.

One of our favorite edit tips from Screencastify CEO James Francis: “If you make a large mistake that you don’t want in your final video, don’t end the recording. Pause for a few seconds and start that segment over. Then cut the mistake out after you’re finished recording.”

Fireworks are great for Teacher Appreciation Week!

Share: Let the world see

Qr codes so the world can watch 👀.

So, you’ve created an amazing video to show your true appreciation for a teacher or anyone! Now what? Of course, you can share the video with the subject of your appreciation, but you can also share them with anyone who wants to watch! One of our favorite ways to do this is through the QR code.

QR codes, of course, are easy to create with Screencastify and can be shared anywhere, giving easy, on-demand access to the video on any device.

As you can see below, you can generate a QR code directly from the Screencastify Watch Page. You can even print the QR code and hang them wherever you would like to share your Teacher Appreciation Week awesomeness!
