by Charles & Frances Hunter, as told by Roland Buck

"Don't be afraid. The Father has sent me to bring a message for you to bring to your church and the world." - Angel Gabriel

I am placing this amazing true story on the Internet for several reasons. First, I still have the same impression as Charles Hunter did about these messages from angels, that "the entire world needs to hear them." In addition to the Bible, it should be obvious that this book is also divinely inspired. Twenty three years after I first read about the angel Gabriel's 27 visitations with Pastor Buck, & visiting Roland Buck's church in 1980, I am still as convinced today as I was back in 1979. Since the Internet began in the 90s, it's time the message take on 'wings' on the WWW (world wide web), in the hopes that yet another person will be transformed by these incredible messages brought to us by special messengers straight from God's heart! Webmaster , Texas ( July 2002 )

Webmaster's Update, 2013: This online copy of AoA is the third printing that came out in the summer of 1979, written by Charles and Frances Hunter after many interviews of Pastor Buck, only months before his passing on Nov. 6, 1979 . Later editions by another publishing house contain only 15 chapters. This original edition has a chapter 16, entitled "In the Beginning" written by the Hunters, of yet more testimony to what God was doing. Charles and Frances Hunter spent nearly 40 years leading "healing explosions," where they prayed for the sick and taught Christians about the ministry of healing. Known as the Happy Hunters for their ready smiles and quick humor, the couple wrote more than 50 books about divine healing, including the best-seller, How to Heal the Sick. Frances Hunter went to be with the Lord in 2009 at the age of 93, followed the next year, 2010, by her husband Charles, who was 89.

Sermon notes.

Colossians 2:18-19 NIV Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

1st Angels worship God

Revelation 5:11 NLT Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders .

Revelation 4:6-11 NLT In the center and around the throne were four living beings , each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come." Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased."

Revelation 5:11-14 NLT Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders . And they sang in a mighty chorus: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing." And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: "Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever." And the four living beings said, "Amen!" And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.

2nd Angels are warriors

Psalm 103:20-21 NLT Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will!

Revelation 12:7 NLT Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels.

Daniel 12:1 NLT "At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation , will arise.

Daniel 10:13-14 MSG But I was waylaid by the angel-prince of the kingdom of Persia and was delayed for a good three weeks. But then Michael, one of the chief angel-princes, intervened to help me. I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia.

Daniel 10:20 MSG "He said, 'Do you know why I've come here to you? I now have to go back to fight against the angel-prince of Persia , and when I get him out of the way, the angel-prince of Greece will arrive.

Judges 5:20 ESV From heaven the stars fought , from their courses they fought against Sisera.

3rd Angels protect us

Psalm 91:11-12a NLT For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands...

2 Kings 6:15-17 NLT When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. "Oh, sir, what will we do now?" the young man cried to Elisha. "Don't be afraid!" Elisha told him. "For there are more on our side than on theirs!" Then Elisha prayed, "O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!" The Lord opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

Matthew 18:10 NIV "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

4th Angels observe us

1 Peter 1:12 NIV It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Ephesians 3:10 NIV His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

Daniel 10:11a NIV He said, "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed ...

Daniel 4:13 ESV “I saw in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven.

Daniel 4:17a ESV The sentence is by the decree of the watchers…

Daniel 4:23a ESV And because the king saw a watcher,

1 Corinthians 4:9 NLT Instead, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display, like prisoners of war at the end of a victor's parade, condemned to die. We have become a spectacle to the entire world—to people and angels alike.

1 Corinthians 11:10a NLT For this reason, and because the angels are watching ...

5th Angels give us directions from God

Acts 5:19-21 NLT But an angel of the Lord came at night , opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, "Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!" So at daybreak the apostles entered the Temple, as they were told, and immediately began teaching...

Acts 8:26 NLT As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him , "Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza."

6th Angels deliver God’s people

Acts 12:5-9 NLT But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, "Quick! Get up!" And the chains fell off his wrists. Then the angel told him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." And he did. "Now put on your coat and follow me," the angel ordered. So Peter left the cell, following the angel .

7th Angels take us to heaven when we die

Luke 16:22-23 NIV "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side . The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

Matthew 24:31 NIV And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Jude 9 NIV But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

8th Angels are agents of divine judgement

Acts 12:21-23 NIV On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, "This is the voice of a god, not of a man." Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down , and he was eaten by worms and died.

Matthew 13:49-50 NIV This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace , where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Revelation 16:8 ESV The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch people with fire.

9th Angels bring messages from God

Daniel 8:15-16 NLT As I, Daniel, was trying to understand the meaning of this vision, someone who looked like a man stood in front of me. And I heard a human voice calling out from the Ulai River, "Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of his vision."

Acts 27:23-25 NIV Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me and said , 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.' So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

10th Angels strengthen us

Luke 22:43 NIV An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

Daniel 10:17-18 NIV How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe." Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength.

11th Angels appear to us without us knowing it

Hebrews 13:2 NLT Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

Hebrews 2:14 NLT Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.

really just going for gas throwers, also why does jimmy herget still hold a roster spot?

' src=

I think Herget is in the on deck circle hoping that the last out is made.

' src=

Updating RHP from A to Z

' src=

This will haunt the Cardinals for generations to come.

' src=

Perry dumpster diving in DFAs.

Angel fans have been told the Halos are “all in” and not rebuilding, then rumors of the team is for sale again and thats why no big signings to absorb the loss of Ohtani……but now I’m getting very concerned that all of this is BS and we’re stuck with hoping Ron can taser Tony 2-Bags every morning to keep him out there.

' src=

The rumor is weak. Hardly any media running with it. Same report speculates they aren’t spending on big free agents but some of the top are still out there. That’s market conditions. And Arte didn’t hold back spending before when they were up for sale. Hard to believe Washington and all those coaches came over for this.

Guys, the Angels are not spending because the TV money goes dry in 2025. They received a payment of $125 million for this year, then no more from Bally at least

' src=

You’re getting concerned? I’ve been drinking for a month over this team. Pecota estimating a whopping 74.5 wins. If we can increase our win total by 1.5 every year we should be at .500 in only five or six years.

' src=

I am fine with how this off-season has been going as an Angels fan. This team needs a rebuild, badly. Signing Snell, Bellinger, or both still wouldn’t be enough to make this team a contender as several pieces are missing.

This would be the best off-season if Arte announced the he was selling the team.

' src=

Angels have been one of the most active teams this year I know it’s not really saying much looks like Zuniga will be In the minors. Perry is trying to get minor league depth can’t knock that hopefully we won’t be playing them.

This trade will hurt hinder Luken Baker and Luken Baker’s plate appearances.

How does sending a relief pitcher to the Angels for cash affect a minor league 1st baseman?

It doesn’t weirdo. It’s just funny to see how triggered one sarcastic comment made you. Lol.

Triggered? That is funny.

That’s some really weak sarcasm

' src=

I like the effort to fix the bullpen, but the last couple moves are hard to get excited about. I do like that they are finally getting guys who can top 93.

A 25 yr old flame thrower? How is that a bad thing?

Make him sit between Moore and Stephenson all spring training, and soak it all in.

' src=

Mark Grace is a moron.

angels of assignment

When I was in school, I often received assignments from my teachers. These assignments were not always met with enthusiasm and often I delayed their completion as long as possible. Angels also receive assignments and they come from God Himself. These assignments are not delayed, and are carried out as quickly as possible with military precision. Hebrews 1:14 says,  “Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.  [1]    In our story, an angel visits Mary to give her a message. But angels can minister to all people who will inherit salvation. Most of the time, angels are in the unseen realm carrying out their duties, but in Mary’s case, the angel Gabriel gave her a personal message.

26  In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee,  27  to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David.  28  Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”  29  Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.  30  “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!  31  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. [2]   Luke 1:26-31

Of all the assignments the angel Gabriel received, telling Mary she was going to have a child who would be Jesus had to be a very special experience. No other angel before or after would ever receive such a wonderful assignment. Angels, in their glory, are awesome to behold and usually tell people not to be afraid.

What are some of the amazing assignments angels receive from God to help people of faith?

They protect:  Psalm 34:7- For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.  [3]

They rescue:  Acts 5:19-20 -But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them,  20  “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”  [4]

They give guidance : Acts 8:26 -As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.”  [5]

Take a moment and thank the Lord for angels who have been at work in your life along your journey of faith.

10 Los Angeles Angels Prospects To Know Beyond The Top 30 in 2024

angels of assignment

Baseball America’s Top 30 Los Angeles Angels Prospects entering 2024 are here exclusively for subscribers. The list includes updated scouting reports, BA grades and tool grade projections every player.

Inevitably, there are players every year who barely miss the cut when we narrow down the list. These players are all worth monitoring for various reasons and it’s likely some will either reach the big leagues in 2024 or enjoy breakout seasons lower in the minors.

Here are next 10 players to know in the Angels system beyond their Top 30.

31. Joe Redfield Jr. , OF

The son of big league third baseman Joe Redfield, Redfield is an athletic outfielder who stands out for above-average speed and solid defense in center field. As a hitter, he has a contact-oriented ground ball heavy approach that profiles more in a backup role than as a regular.

32. Jorge Marcheco , RHP

A command-over-stuff righthander with fringy velocity, Marcheco’s lone plus tool is his control, but there’s hope that he’ll continue to add velocity to push his 87-89 mph fastball into the low-90s. His fringe-average changeup is effective because of his conviction in it and his ability to spot it well.

33. Riley Bauman , RHP

Bauman was recovering from Tommy John surgery when Angels scout K.J. Hendricks invited him to a pre-draft workout. Bauman displayed a power arsenal, touching 98 mph, and the Angels drafted him in the 13th round. The undersized athletic righthander became a standout at instructs with his mid-90s sinker, above-average slider and some feel for a changeup. He’ll continue developing as a starter due to his simple and repeatable delivery, though his below-average control and power arsenal might play better in the bullpen.

34. Guillermo Zuniga , RHP

A one-time Dodgers prospect, Zuniga was designated for assignment by the Cardinals and traded to the Angels for cash considerations. A hard-throwing reliever with a fastball that sits 98-100 mph, Zuniga also mixes in a upper-80s slider. He made his major league debut on May 2 for the Cardinals, but spent the majority of 2023 with Triple-A Memphis. He was shut down with right forearm tightness and transferred to the 60-day injured list in early September.

35. Luke Murphy , RHP

Murphy was Vanderbilt’s closer in 2021 and reached the College World Series. He has been a reliable reliever since the Angels drafted him in the fourth round in 2021. Murphy has a high-spin mid-90s fastball, two-plane slider and fading changeup that all flash above-average or plus. His mechanics can go awry, however, leading to inconsistent control, but he flashes high-leverage relief potential.

36. Kenyon Yovan , RHP

The Angels drafted Yovan out of high school in the 27th round in 2019, but he opted to attend Oregon. He was a highly regarded college pitching prospect until injuries forced him into mostly a DH role as a junior and senior. Yovan took a roundabout path back to the Angels, signing as an undrafted free agent in 2021. He scrapped hitting and returned to the mound a year into his career and has become a quick-moving righty reliever. Yovan flashes back-end bullpen stuff at times with a mid-90s fastball and two decent breaking balls, though they will blend together with below-average command.

37. Arol Vera , SS

Vera was a touted prospect in the 2019-20 international class who signed for $2 million. He’s a dependable defender at multiple infield positions, giving him some bench projection. The switch-hitter has a fair eye at the plate, but poor swing decisions haven’t allowed him to make strides with the bat, giving him minimal offensive projection.

38. Carlos Espinosa , RHP

Signed out of Cuba during the 2022 international signing class, Espinosa pitched his way to full season ball by the end of 2023. He mixes a four-seam fastball at 93-94 mph with 18 inches of ride on average with a tight gyro slider at 82-83 mph, an upper-70s 12-6 curveball and a mid-80s changeup. He showed solid feel for his fastball and slider but struggled to land his curveball and changeup.

39. Keythel Key , RHP

After two inconspicuous years in rookie ball, Key broke out as a 19-year-old in 2023 with a solid performance in the Arizona Complex League, ending the year with two excellent starts in High-A. He’ll work mostly 92-94 mph with his fastball that has touched 98, while his offspeed offerings show promise. He’ll need to continue developing his arsenal while finding the zone with more frequency as he fills out his tall and slender frame.

40. John Wimmer , SS

Selected in the 11th round from a remote high school in South Carolina and signed for $400,000, Wimmer is an athletic shortstop with tools to dream on, though his rudimentary skill set makes him a long-term development project.

‘Migrant Crime Wave’ Not Supported by Data, Despite High-Profile Cases

Several well-publicized acts of violence by migrants in New York have unsettled some city leaders, but police statistics do not point toward a surge in crime.

Officers entering a New York Police Department van at night in Times Square.

By Maria Cramer ,  María Sánchez Díez and Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

In the past month, the New York Police Department has described alarming crimes involving young men living in the city’s migrant shelters.

A 15-year-old boy, the police said, shot at an officer in Times Square and hit a tourist. Two officers were kicked and punched on West 42nd Street . A Venezuelan man oversaw a ring of criminals who rode mopeds and snatched purses and cellphones from more than 60 people, most of them women walking alone.

During an early-morning police raid last week in the Bronx, Mayor Eric Adams, dressed in a bulletproof vest over a Fendi scarf, joined officers as they arrested five people accused of perpetrating the robbery spree. “A migrant crime wave is washing over our city,” Police Commissioner Edward Caban told reporters hours later.

Some of the crimes were captured on videos that have since gone viral, leading Republican politicians and their allies to say that migrant criminals are besieging New York.

Quantifying crimes committed by migrants is nearly impossible, because the police are not allowed to ask about a suspect’s immigration status, said Kenneth Corey, a former chief of the department who retired in 2022. But police data indicate that there has been no surge in crime since April 2022, when Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas started sending buses of migrants to New York to protest the federal government’s border policy.

More than 170,000 migrants have arrived in the city since then, and it is difficult to know what crime statistics would show had they not come. But as the migrant numbers have increased, the overall crime rate has stayed flat. And, in fact, many major categories of crime — including rape, murder and shootings — have decreased, according to an analysis of the New York Police Department’s month-by-month statistics since April 2022.

The monthly number of robberies since migrants began arriving in large numbers has fluctuated. It peaked at 1,730 in July 2022, hit a low of 1,155 in February 2023 and climbed to 1,417 last month.

Grand larcenies have also gone up and down, but the monthly total stood at 4,056 in January, compared with a high of 4,687 in August 2022.

Jeffrey Butts, director of the Research and Evaluation Center at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said that there was no discernible migrant crime wave.

“I would interpret a ‘wave’ to mean something significant, meaningful and a departure from the norm,” he said. “So far, what we have are individual incidents of crime.”

Still, immigrants staying in shelters said they had felt a sense of hostility in recent weeks. On subway cars, they said, people slide over to avoid sitting too close to them or make rude comments under their breath.

“They say things in English you don’t understand, but you can tell it’s bad,” Ezequiel Velásquez, a 22-year-old Venezuelan, said in Spanish outside the Row NYC hotel in Times Square, where a migrant shelter has been established.

Because of the recent crimes, he said, people see all migrants the same way: “violent.”

Days after the officers were assaulted in Times Square, a man stood in front of the Row NYC and yelled slurs, said Marcela López, a 38-year-old migrant from Colombia. She could not understand him, but her 11-year-old son translated.

“Immigrant bastard,” the man had said.

The police did not provide statistics to back up Commissioner Caban’s claim of a migrant crime wave and referred questions to a Feb. 5 news conference during which police officials announced the Bronx raid and listed a litany of other crimes likely committed by migrants. Officials at the news conference described a rise in robberies by men on mopeds — a source of transport and employment for many newcomers — since migrants had started to arrive. They also mentioned calls related to domestic violence at shelters, picked pockets, shoplifting and reports of human trafficking.

Joseph Kenny, the chief of detectives, said that mopeds were used in 32 different robbery patterns in the first five weeks of the year (a “pattern” refers to several similar crimes committed by one person or a group of people). Last year, there was only one such pattern in the same time period, he said.

The police said they have also been investigating groups of Venezuelan immigrants who they say are engaged in more sophisticated thefts, like hacking into stolen phones and using people’s identification to clear out their bank accounts.

It is not surprising that among a sudden influx of tens of thousands of people, there would be criminals or criminal behavior, said James Essig, a former chief of detectives for the department.

“Any group that comes in, where you’ve got unemployed, young males hanging out in the corners, they’re going to get themselves into trouble,” he said.

Mr. Corey, the former department chief, said that even a tiny percentage of immigrants engaged in criminal behavior could cause a surge in crime and lower people’s sense of security.

“The bigger question is why would we allow people who are clearly engaged in criminal activity — and we’re not talking about a young mother who is shoplifting baby formula to feed her baby — why would we allow them to remain here?” Mr. Corey said.

Some lawmakers have called for repealing a city law that forbids police officers from honoring detention requests issued by immigration authorities without a warrant from a federal judge.

When describing crimes by migrants, officials have largely stuck to anecdotes and videos that have been well publicized . At the February news conference, officials showed a woman being dragged by a thief on a moped. After the assault late last month on two police officers in Times Square, the department released a short clip of the attack, which led to the indictment of about half a dozen men. The story quickly become a staple on Fox News.

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, later released longer footage of the assault, which showed that the officers had initiated the encounter, aggressively ordering the men to keep walking before pulling one of them to the side after he appeared to yell an insult at the police. The fracas began after the man resisted.

The focus on particular crimes has created a false sense of chaos and insecurity that threatens law-abiding immigrants, said Ana María Archila, a co-director of the Working Families Party, which is allied with labor unions and community organizations. She noted the Feb. 6 assault by the Guardian Angels of a man the anti-crime group had mistaken for a Venezuelan immigrant. The attack took place just as the group’s leader, Curtis Sliwa, was being interviewed live on Fox News nearby.

“You look at the history of immigration, and you see very clearly that waves of migration are accompanied by diminishing rates of crime,” Ms. Archila said. “It’s also true that waves of migration have been received with racist, xenophobic rhetoric.”

In 2023, researchers at Stanford University found that immigrants were imprisoned at lower rates than people born in the United States . In 2020, a Princeton University study noted that undocumented immigrants in Texas tended to have fewer felony arrests than legal residents .

Mayor Adams, who in September said that the migrant crisis would “destroy New York City,” has somewhat softened his tone.

“Any New Yorker that looks at those who are trying to fulfill their next step on the American dream as being criminals, that is wrong,” he told reporters the day of the Bronx raid. “That is not what we’re seeing.”

On Monday, the city announced an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for migrant shelters. The decision was described as an effort to bring policies at migrant shelters in line with those of traditional homeless shelters, where curfews have existed for years, said Kayla Mamelak, a spokeswoman for Mr. Adams.

“This policy will allow for more efficient capacity management,” she said.

Ms. Mamelak said the curfew had nothing to do with the spate of crimes.

On Monday in Manhattan’s East Village, a line of migrants waited outside St. Brigid School, a former Catholic school, where city workers were handing out temporary housing assignments.

The scene was serene. Groups of men talked on benches, their suitcases close at hand, or played soccer in nearby Tompkins Square Park. One man used electric clippers to give haircuts to migrants waiting in line.

Josè Rodriguez, 32, who emigrated from Caracas, Venezuela, to New York 10 months ago, said he had waited outside St. Brigid for three days to try to get a housing assignment.

Shortly after he arrived in the city, his moped was stolen in the Bronx. He reported the crime to the police but they were unable to find it.

Still, he said he felt safer in New York than he ever did in Venezuela, where he was arrested for expressing anti-government opinions. When he heard about the shooting by the 15-year-old in Times Square, he felt dread.

“That’s terrible for us,” he said. “Most of us are coming here for a good life.”

Chelsia Rose Marcius and Hurubie Meko contributed reporting. Susan C. Beachy contributed research.

Maria Cramer is a Times reporter covering the New York Police Department and crime in the city and surrounding areas. More about Maria Cramer

SF Giants replace one Tommy John patient with another in opportunistic roster move

S COTTSDALE, Ariz. — There was much speculation that Wednesday would be the day the dam broke in baseball’s glacial free agency. Teams were allowed to transfer players to the 60-day injured list, opening up spots on the 40-man for potential additions without any waiver-wire casualties.

The Giants opened one slot, placing one player recovering from Tommy John surgery on the 60-day, and filled it immediately with another.

Right-hander Austin Warren will take Robbie Ray’s spot on San Francisco’s roster, but like Ray, Warren won’t be ready to start the season.

Warren, 28, signed a one-year major-league deal, the Giants announced.

He underwent Tommy John surgery last May and was designated for assignment by the Angels last week.

In 32 career appearances, Warren has a 3.55 ERA, mostly on the strength of his debut in 2021, when he posted a 1.77 mark in 16 games. In the two seasons since, before undergoing surgery, he has posted a 5.60 ERA in 16 games.

The Giants 40-man roster is now full, and another corresponding move must be made when the team finalizes its three-year, $42 million agreement with Jorge Soler.
