Assignment: Ada

  • Edit source
  • View history

Assignment: Ada , also known as Ada the Spy in some regions, is a non-canon minigame featured in Resident Evil 4 unlocked after completing the game.

  • 2.1 Loadout
  • 2.2 Plaga Sample locations
  • 3.1 Yellow Herbs

The minigame's plot involves Ada collecting a number of plaga samples as ordered by Albert Wesker (as opposed to collecting the single control plaga sample like in the main game). Ada does so and then reports back to Wesker that the mission was completed. She also states that Krauser was killed despite the implication that he had actually survived.

Although the plot is non-canon, it is interesting to note the ending scene has one of the biggest allusions to Resident Evil 5 in that Albert Wesker talks about "Significant changes in our world".

Gameplay [ ]

Ada wears a unique costume in the minigame which is a military-style uniform as opposed to her red dress as in the main game.

The game begins at the beginning of the island at Wharf A and ends at the Communications tower . The item layout on the map has been reworked for the minigame and pesetas and treasures are not found or used at all. The player must find the five samples of the Las Plagas parasite which are marked on the player's map. The only enemies featured are Ganado militia , Gatling Men , and Jack Krauser as the "boss" in the final area the player must defeat to get the last Plaga Sample.

The minigame is relatively short and is meant to be completed in one play-through as there are no save points during it. Ada starts the game with 6 & 2/4 Bars of health and has a slightly faster movement speed than Leon. The Plaga Samples Ada must collect take up space in the inventory instead of the Keys & Treasures menu.

Loadout [ ]

Ada begins the game with a set loadout with the default size case. In the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the 2007 PC versions, she doesn't have a knife. In all other releases, she does. There are no other weapons to find besides Hand Grenades and ammo and the Merchant does not appear at all. Ada has the following items and firearms with the following stats;

  • Handgun Ammo x30
  • TMP Ammo x50
  • Rifle Ammo x5
  • Hand Grenade
  • First Aid Spray
  • Scope (semi-auto rifle)

Plaga Sample locations [ ]

Each Plaga Sample takes up 1x2 spaces of inventory. Due to them being mandatory in order to complete the scenario Plaga Samples are the only items in the game that cannot be discarded after putting them in the Attache Case.

Strategy [ ]

  • In the GameCube and PlayStation2 versions, Ada has no knife, so try and conserve ammo and, to open multiple crates, line them up and shoot them in one bullet using the Punisher.
  • Try to not get carried away with the Punisher's high rate of fire.
  • Single-fire the TMP when possible to conserve ammo.
  • Using The TMP full-auto is best saved to be used against shielded militia in close range, or multiple enemies, due to its high fire rate and high bullet consumption.
  • Ada's melee attacks, Fan Kick and Back Kick, are particularly useful, due to your lack of a knife, and need to conserve ammo.
  • Try to avoid Gatling Men whenever possible. They're relatively easy to flank in most presented situations, and not worth wasting ammo over, unless you are in dire need of a First Aid Spray or a Hand Grenade .
  • Krauser is really easy to beat if you do this correctly. When he appears, dodge his attacks and run to the door you originally came from. Then equip your sniper rifle. Reenter the room where Krauser is. He will charge at you from the far end of the walkway, using his plaga arm as a shield. Try and snipe his knees before he reaches you. if you do, when he staggers, try and shoot either his head or upper chest. Repeat that until he reaches you. Just before he reaches you, re-enter that door again, reload and re-enter Krauser's room again. He spawns at the very end of the catwalk. Repeat what's above until he's dead. Grenades are more risky, due to their range, but also work well too if you can time it right. Sustained TMP fire at his knees is also effective. On the Wii, Xbox Live and PSN versions, do this same tactic, but try knifing him when he drops to his knee. This is very useful in speed running, as it only takes a few slashes to defeat him.
  • Discard the Scope for the Semi-Auto Sniper since it is basically useless, this might help when collecting Plaga Samples since you need them in your Attache Case.
  • After the fight with Krauser, no more enemies appear. Anything other than the first four Plaga samples may be discarded to make space in the inventory for the final sample.

Yellow Herbs [ ]

Due to Ada's low health, Yellow Herbs are vital in order to stay alive and take more hits. There are seven in the minigame. Collecting them all raises Ada's max health from 6 & 1/2Bars to 8 1/4 Bars.

Results [ ]

There is no formal results screen displayed at the end of Assignment: Ada . However, a unique credits sequence plays consisting of cutscenes from the main game but with Leon in his Special 1 costume and Ada in her costume from The Mercenaries minigame (The R.P.D uniform and Resident Evil 2 dress respectively).

In the Gamecube version, beating the minigame will unlock the Chicago Typewriter for the main game, in all subsequent releases, however, the weapon unlocks for use in Separate Ways instead.

Assignment Ada , also known as Ada the Spy in some regions, is a short mission that is unlocked after completing the game once. In this game, Ada Wong must infiltrate the Island Base and recover 5 Plaga Samples. The samples must fit into her small Attache Case along with her Punisher, TMP, and Semi-Auto Rifle, so item management is a must. The game must be beaten in one complete run, as there is no saving. In all versions prior to the Wii version, Ada has no Knife, so the difficulty is even greater. She must fire bullets to break crates and barrels to obtain items so, do not worry about killing every single enemy and proceed to the next area as soon as possible.

  • 1 Storming the Beach
  • 2 Inside the Base
  • 3 The Lone Guard
  • 4 Chicago Typewriter

Storming the Beach [ edit ]

When infiltrating the beach area, be careful about shooting enemies of edges into the water, or else you may run short on ammo. After all the enemies are dead, collect the items around the area. Climb the ladder at the rear entrance and crawl through the vent duct to get inside the Base.

Inside the Base [ edit ]

Once inside check your in-game map. The locations of the Plaga Samples are marked with treasure icons on the map. Find them and kill the enemies guarding them. In the Research Lab, collect the Plaga Sample and then defend yourself from the enemies that lock-down the room. To get out, operate the security console to unlock the door.

The Lone Guard [ edit ]

At the Communications Tower you will have to defeat Krauser to obtain the final Plaga Sample. Use your remaining Hand Grenades and the TMP to defeat him. Once he's taken care of ride the lift to the top of the Tower and call a Chopper to pick up Ada.

Chicago Typewriter [ edit ]

Completing the mission allows you to purchase the Chicago Typewriter , a Tommy Gun with unlimited ammo, in a completed file of the main game (GameCube) or Separate Ways (all other versions). The gun does come with a high price at 1 million Pesetas to be exact in the main game and 300,000 in Separate Ways.

Resident Evil 4 VR Should Bring Ada's Missions Back With Mercenaries

Resident Evil 4's recent VR edition has a lot going for it, but there are several missing aspects from the original that players would love to see.

Capcom's recent remake and virtual reality port Resident Evil 4 VR has been met with praise from fans of the original 2005 game. While some questioned the relevance of remaking a game that's over 15 years old, other players and fans of Capcom's previous VR version of another game in the franchise, Resident Evil 7 , were keen to experience the survival horror shooter through the immediacy of a headset.

Resident Evil 4 VR is not just a straightforward remake. Capcom faced some criticism and controversy before the game's release when it was rumored that it would be cutting some content from one of its most popular Resident Evil games, in addition to making the shift from a 3rd person perspective. While some of the content cut had little to no impact on the larger game, the omission of other elements such as Mercenaries Mode, Separate Ways, and Assignment Ada at the time of the game's release was felt more keenly by fans.

Lost In Translation

Resident Evil 4 VR Proof

While some fans were hoping for a ground-up remake similar to Capcom's treatment of Resident Evil 2 , they will have to be satisfied with a remaster and translation to VR for the time being. Although large amounts of the game remain the same, there were still some changes in the newest port from the original fourth installment in the popular franchise. Once the game was released in 2021, players were able to see that most of the changes were simply cuts of slightly sexist and outdated dialogue and actions, particularly with regards to the characters of Ingrid and Ashley .

The main change was a welcome one, with perspective shifting from 3rd person to 1st during gameplay (other than some key instances, like when Leon delivers a knockdown move to an enemy). Putting players directly in the action through a 1st person VR perspective is always a popular mechanic for horror games, even if this proves just a little too much for some gamers. The change that left a lot of fans of the franchise disappointed was the decision to not include Mercenaries Mode, Separate Ways, or Assignment Ada. That was until Oculus confirmed that Mercenaries Mode will be added to Resident Evil 4 VR in a free update coming in 2022 – welcome news to gamers that enjoyed the popular mode and its various characters that saw them mowing down as many enemies as they could within a time limit.

Ada Missions Still MIA

resident-evil-4-assignment-ada

With the announcement that the previously cut Mercenaries Mode will be making a reappearance, it's possible that Ada Wong 's storyline Separate Ways and minigame Assignment Ada may also have a place in Resident Evil 4 VR . Separate Ways, a story expansion in the original game that was made available to players after they completed the campaign, followed the exploits of enigmatic spy Ada concurrent to the game's main narrative. Assignment Ada also follows Ada but is a non-canon extra mode that was a little lighter on plot. Players controlled Ada as she collected Plaga samples and reported back to Wesker, providing a fun and challenging quick extra along with the other content.

The addition of the Ada-centric add ons would certainly be a plus for the overall Resident Evil 4 VR experience. Enabling gamers to play through these levels in immersive and palpitation-inducing VR would be an improvement to the original versions, and would add more content to the game for players to enjoy. Providing an additional story mode like Separate Ways would flesh out the narrative for players that may only be experiencing Resident Evil 4 for the first time in its VR iteration, and would provide a nice counterbalance to the more Leon-focused main campaign.

Resident Evil 4 VR is out now, exclusively for Oculus Quest 2.

Resident Evil 4: Every Unlockable In The Game

The biggest game in the series at the time, Resident Evil 4 padded out its length with a host of unlockable content.

Few franchises handle unlockables with as much grace as Resident Evil . They’ve always been a staple of the series, from the very first entry on the PlayStation. Modern Resident Evil game’s throw unlockable after unlockable at the player, which is something fans have Resident Evil 4 to thank. The biggest game in the series at the time, Resident Evil 4 padded out its length with a host of unlockable content.

Beating Resident Evil 4 is honestly just the tip of the iceberg as the game set precedents for the franchise across the board. Between new difficulties, weapons, and costumes, Resident Evil 4 features a whole game’s worth of content for players to unlock.

New Game Modes

Assignment Ada

Several alternate game modes are unlocked when you finish Resident Evil 4 for the first time: The Mercenaries, Assignment Ada, and Separate Ways. The Mercenaries is a series staple that recently made a comeback in Resident Evil Village, but arguably was at its best in Resident Evil 4. Assignment Ada is a small mini-game starring Ada Wong, and Separate Ways is a mini-campaign that shows what Ada was up to during the main story.

Leon RPD

Unlockable costumes are a staple of Resident Evil, with RE4 featuring two sets for Leon, Ashley, and Ada. The first set – Special 1 – is unlocked by completing the main game once. Leon wears his RPD uniform from Resident Evil 2, Ashley swaps to an all white get-up, and Ada wears all black gear. Special 2 is unlocked by completing Separate Ways and puts Leon in a mafioso suit while sticking Ashley in a full suit of armor.

Professional Difficulty

Resident Evil 4 Boss

Completing Resident Evil 4 once a new difficulty mode: Professional. The hardest difficulty in the game, Professional mode is the perfect way to revisit Resident Evil 4 on repeat playthroughs. Not only do enemies take less damage, they also hit harder and aggro at Leon much faster. Professional forces you to master Resident Evil 4’s core mechanics or suffer.

Resident Evil 4 Matilda

The Matilda is a 5x2 handgun that’s unlocked after completing the main story once. The Matilda can be purchased from the Merchant on New Game Plus for 70,000 pesetas. While powerful, the Matilda is the single most expensive handgun in the game to upgrade and eats through Handgun Ammo faster than any other weapon. The Matilda has enough drawbacks where it won’t dominate a new cycle, but it’s an incredibly fun gun to play with.

Infinite Launcher

Resident Evil 4 Infinite Launcher

Like the Matilda, the Infinite Launcher is unlocked after completing the main game for the first time. The Infinite Launcher can be purchased from the Merchant on your next cycle for a whopping 1,000,000 pesetas. The weapon itself is 8x2, taking up a fair amount of space in your Attache Case.

As the name implies, the Infinite Launcher has infinite ammo and allows Leon to use one of the single strongest weapons in the game indefinitely. While the price tag will leave you cash poor for a while, the Infinite Launcher’s speed more than makes up for it – turning Leon into a bonafide killing machine.

Handcannon screen once its unlocked in Resident Evil 4.

The Handcannon is a powerful Magnum that’s unlocked by getting a Five Star Ranking on every stage of The Mercenaries with every playable character. Once everything’s been completed, the Handcannon will be available for purchase for 0 pesetas in the Cleared Game shop. A 4x2 Magnum, the Handcannon is a unique weapon in that it takes its own ammo that only spawns if the gun is in your inventory: Ultimate Mighty Z Bullets. The Handcannon is incredibly expensive to upgrade, but it’s worth it to unlock infinite ammo.

PLR

The P.R.L. 412 (Plagas Removal Laser) is a ferociously overpowered gun that’s unlocked after completing the main game on Professional once. The P.R.L. 412 can then be picked up at the shop for free on your next cycle of the game.

RELATED:  Resident Evil Village: 10 Things Only Players Of The Previous Games In The Franchise Noticed

A 7x3 weapon, the P.R.L. 412 takes up space, but it’s incredibly useful. The gun can either fire out a blinding flash or a powerful laser that kills most enemies in a single hit – not even bosses are immune to the P.R.L. 412’s might.

Chicago Typewriter

Chicago Typewriter

The Chicago Typewriter is a 7x3 Machine Gun that needs to be unlocked a few times. Completing Assignment Ada unlocks the Chicago Typewriter for purchase in Separate Ways for 300,000 pesetas. From there, completing Separate Ways once unlocks the Chicago Typewriter for purchase in the main game for 1,000,000 pesetas. The Machine Gun requires quite a lot of money to fully upgrade, but it’s arguably the single best weapon in Resident Evil 4.

Screen Rant

Resident evil 4 remake already has the perfect story dlc lined up.

While Resident Evil 4 Remake has enjoyed a massively successful launch, it's also perfectly set up to receive substantial story DLC at a later date.

The remake of Resident Evil 4 has been released to an overall positive reception, and the game has also set itself up well for future DLC. As a modernized take on one of the Resident Evil franchise's most beloved classic entries, the Resident Evil 4 remake follows many of the same beats as the original game with a few surprising additions, following in the same vein as previous remakes for Resident Evil 2 and 3 .While Resident Evil 4 's remake is mostly faithful to the original, there are a few notable missing aspects from the 2005 classic. Some set pieces, sections, or boss fights have been shifted around or outright removed in the remake, although usually replaced by new or updated content, and as a whole, the game takes on a somewhat more serious tone (although it still retains much of the original's cheesy dialogue). Perhaps more notably, however, the remake's launch was missing some of the original's extra modes, like Resident Evil 4 's popular The Mercenaries mode, although this is coming to the game as free DLC shortly. Resident Evil 4 Remake DLC Is (Probably) On The Way

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Leon holds a shotgun while he protects Ashley, which is back-to-back with him.

Luckily, however, Resident Evil 4 's remake has positioned itself well for story-related DLC campaigns, in addition to the already-announced free Mercenaries DLC; with Separate Ways DLC being all but confirmed by data-mined files, as reported by Twitter user, @ResiEvilCentral . Other possible DLCs include Operation Javier , a story involving Leon and Krauser originally set in 2009's Wii spinoff Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles , and Assignment: Ada , a short mode taking place on the island section of Resident Evil 4 's main story. Of the three possible additions, however, Separate Ways has the most evidence supporting its eventual addition to the game.

Separate Ways Could Be A Second Story Campaign For RE4 Remake

The title screen for Resident Evil 4's Separate Ways bonus mode, featuring Ada Wong sitting against a wall and holding up a pistol.

Featuring Ada Wong as a playable character, the original Separate Ways is a bonus campaign following a storyline that proceeds parallel to the main story, filling in several gaps and showing Ada's role in assisting Leon at several points in the game. With files for Another Order (the original name for the campaign for Japanese releases) having been data mined from the Resident Evil 4 remake, it seems likely that the campaign is currently being developed as DLC, to be released at a later date. In a similar vein to Resident Evil Village 's Shadows of Rose DLC, Separate Ways is likely to offer significantly modified gameplay from the main story.

While the Separate Ways campaign still falls within the basic framework of the original Resident Evil 4 's gameplay, it presents some key changes. Compared to Leon in the main story, Ada is slightly faster, has different melee attacks, and a hookshot giving her access to a few different areas. However, reflecting the more contained nature of the campaign, its weapon selection is much more condensed, with the only available guns being a Blacktail pistol and a shotgun. Moreover, although the merchant is present in Separate Ways , the original bonus campaign opts to leave weapon upgrading out, meaning that Ada's arsenal stays at the same strength throughout.

With only five chapters, a limited selection of weapons, and the absence of the weapon upgrading system, a Separate Ways DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake could do with some significant changes - especially if, unlike the original, it will come at additional cost. As a presumably paid DLC instead of a free bonus mode, Separate Ways would be due for some big expansions to its content, fleshing it out into a true parallel campaign to the Resident Evil 4 remake's main story. It remains to be seen what an updated Separate Ways could entail, but longer/more missions, additional weapons, and weapon upgrades could be a good start.

Operation Javier and Assignment: Ada DLCs Aren't Likely To Release

Krauser stabbing his knife down at Leon, who is holding it off, in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Compared to Separate Ways , however, DLC associated with Operation Javier or Assignment: Ada remains somewhat less likely. With no data mined files to support their eventual release, any evidence supporting them would have to come from the RE4 's remake itself. While vague allusions to Operation Javier have been integrated into the story of the remake, they seem mostly to exist to provide more backstory for Krauser, giving him character motivation he lacked in the original game, and strengthening his connection to Leon. While it can't be written off entirely, much of Operation Javier' s presence in the main game seems to serve as a way to better integrate Krauser as a third-act villain.

Moreover, the game that Operation Javier originates from, Darkside Chronicles, might present some challenges of its own in creating a potential Operation Javier DLC. Notably, Darkside Chronicles is a co-op rail shooter for the Wii, meaning that very little of its gameplay would be directly translatable to the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 Remake . With Leon and Krauser's relationship being both more fleshed-out and also somewhat changed in the remake, there isn't much need to further expand on it with an Operation Javier DLC - although it could, in theory, operate similarly to the remake's sections where Leon partners with Luis.

Finally, with the very likely release of Separate Ways , an Assignment: Ada DLC may just be redundant, being as it is both non-canon and even smaller in scope than the original RE4 's other bonus modes. If anything, it's more likely that any of Assignment: Ada' s more compelling ideas will simply be folded into a Separate Ways DLC, with the mode's hunt for plagas samples being a potential carryover. As a short bonus mode, offering the first instance of a playable Ada before Separate Way 's inclusion in later releases, Assignment: Ada is unlikely to be re-released as DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake - especially with Separate Ways all but confirmed.

With some DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake already confirmed, and potentially more on the way, there's plenty of room for the game to expand its content, perhaps even elaborating on its final boss and ending . With The Mercenaries already announced for April 7, one of the original game's most popular bonus modes is already guaranteed to be returning. And, although it has yet to be announced or confirmed by Capcom, data mines make a Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 's remake almost certain.

College of Communication & Information

CCI Announces New Director of the School of Journalism and Media

February 20, 2024 by Hillary Tune

Headshot of Amy Jo Coffey wearing a purple shirt, tortoise shell rimmed glasses, gold earrings, and a black suit jacket.

After a national search, the School of Journalism and Media will have a new director starting in July, Amy Jo Coffey, a former broadcast journalist who found her calling in higher education. Coffey comes to the College of Communication and Information to lead the school after serving as program manager for the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications’ online audience analytics master’s program, and as graduate coordinator for one of the college’s residential master’s degree programs in mass communication.

“Dr. Coffey’s exceptional record of scholarly and industry success speaks volumes to her commitment to excellence and building for the future,” said CCI Dean Joseph Mazer. “I look forward to the positive impact of her leadership and expertise, empowering our faculty, staff, and students to excel in the dynamic landscape of journalism and media.”

The search for a new director for the School of Journalism and Media has been underway ever since Professor Catherine Luther, former school director, stepped in to lead CCI’s new Information Integrity Institute last summer. Tombras School of Advertising and Public Relations Professor Courtney Childers has served as interim director of the school and will continue to do so until Coffey begins her tenure at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Coffey brings with her not only professional experience from the field, but a robust and expansive research program centering on media management and a secondary interest in new media spaces, such as the 3D virtual environment Second Life. Her media business expertise extends to analytics, audience economics and valuation, audience language and culture, media markets and ownership, market segmentation, and other strategic competition issues. She co-authored the recently published book, Media Analytics: Understanding Media, Audiences, and Consumers in the 21 st Century, a multi-year project that has been receiving positive reviews since its debut.

The new director’s interests align with the vision of CCI, which includes the expansion of hands-on media immersion opportunities currently underway. Coffey says several other conditions make the school uniquely positioned for “takeoff.”

“Enrollment is growing, alumni are engaged, and there are several new hires. The school just rebranded itself and there is new leadership at both the college and university level. This is an opportunistic time for the School of Journalism and Media, and as someone who sees herself as a builder, innovator, and creator, I was drawn to this moment of possibilities,” she said.

One accomplishment that exemplifies Coffey’s affinity for innovation is the creation, with a group of students, of a Spanish news operation at the University of Florida through its public radio station. Serving North Central Florida residents across 19 counties and filling a long-time need in the region, the local news service is now in its fourteenth year. In addition to that, Coffey built and led the online audience analytics master’s program there, capitalizing on the knowledge and research she’s accumulated in her research specialty throughout her years in academia.

That path to academia started after Coffey established herself as a TV journalist. She worked in front of the camera and behind the scenes in places such as CNN in Atlanta, a local news station in Columbus, Ohio, and in Chattanooga at the city’s ABC affiliate. While she was in Ohio, she earned her master’s in journalism from The Ohio State University and began working in public radio. That segued into positions in commercial radio and then commercial television.

When the opportunity arose for Coffey to teach broadcast journalism at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, she took it, and that experience changed the entire trajectory of her career.

“I accidentally fell in love with teaching. I still had an interest in the newsroom, so I was a freelance general assignment reporter while teaching as a visiting lecturer. I was straddling the fence there for a while, but ultimately felt so passionate about the students and taking what I knew from the newsroom into the classroom, that I went to get my doctorate,” she said, noting she pursued her PhD at the University of Georgia. While she said she initially got her doctorate for teaching in higher education, she fell in love with research along the way.

Coffey is a data-driven leader, so centering her research around the data used by today’s media industry to inform business decisions was an ideal combination of her professional experience and her academic passions. She brings a media business sense to CCI that she hopes will serve the students in creating unique experiential opportunities and add to the current curriculum.

“Our professions are all becoming more data centric. So regardless of subdiscipline or career plans, I believe all our students need to at least be data conversant. Understanding how to become data literate is increasingly important, specifically how to tell stories using data. It’s not about the numbers themselves; it’s about what they mean, and that’s where our role as communicators comes in,” she said.

Coffey enjoys exploring data to understand audience opportunities, such as learning how advertisers perceive non-English speaking audiences and their unique traits, so advertisers may better reach those consumer groups and build trusting, honoring relationships with them. This is where her media management skills and business acumen, along with an advanced comprehension of data analytics, come into play.

“In order to serve audiences well and provide content that is relevant and meaningful to them, it must be financially supported, and that typically occurs through advertising. Advertisers invest in what they see as delivering value and a return on their investment,” Coffey said.

“All of this comes full circle with the whole media sustainability question in terms of what content gets provided. If we don’t have the financial engine, the content won’t get developed, or it quickly disappears because there’s insufficient advertiser support. It’s supply and demand. If we truly care about the marketplace of ideas and how best to serve audiences, that becomes a media economics question. It is making sure there’s a diverse array of content that appeals to audiences, whether entertainment or news, and asking, ‘How do we make this sustainable?’ Part of the answer lies in educating advertisers about audience identities and the many opportunities to connect with them authentically. When that happens, brands tend to see not just a valuable return on their investment, but a valuable relationship as well.”

Coffey is also forward-looking in exploring new technology, which is apparent by her research in virtual immersive media. Her work has found how a three-dimensional immersive virtual environment (such as Second Life or the Metaverse) is more effective for intercultural sensitivity acquisition than two-dimensional environments (such as a website). Such 3D immersive tools can be useful for preparing professionals before they are deployed to different corners of the world and can help them have successful interactions with people of different cultures. Educating students about the promise of technology, as well as the responsibility and caution surrounding its use, is at the forefront of her mind.

“I want students to be inquisitive about the latest technology and what it means for their profession, and that includes artificial intelligence. We should be helping students develop an ethical IQ when it comes to AI, but of course some of this is unsettled terrain. Technology can be a wonderful partner, but we don’t always understand technology’s effects until we’re in the middle of it. We need to learn to ask responsible questions sooner, hopefully before being confronted with these ethical moments. I believe we can help our students identify those moments and then activate those critical thinking skills to ask the right questions surrounding a technology opportunity and evaluate it, so they can decide whether and how to incorporate it into their work and life,” she said.

Coffey says that many people, including parents, are asking good questions about the role of AI, technology, and how it may affect career paths going forward. But what has not changed in her 20 years as an educator is that a degree in journalism and media is highly valued by employers because graduates from this area of study tend to have a range of versatile skills and are highly adaptable to a variety of environments. One of her goals is to increase student awareness around the desirability and versatility of the degree.

“Strong writing and communication skills never go out of style—we constantly hear employers saying this is what they look for, more than anything else, regardless of industry sector.  Journalism and media skills ‘travel’ well because they are transferable to so many areas. So regardless of where students’ career paths may take them, JEM degrees will hold their value,” she said.

Coffey is a strategic thinker and plans to begin her time at the school by meeting with its faculty so she can partner with them in planning the school’s next steps. After making foundational connections with the faculty she is leading, she will begin networking outside of the school to find interdisciplinary opportunities within CCI and throughout the UT campus.

While she is excited to dive into leading the school, Coffey said she’s always loved the region and is looking forward to exploring Knoxville, its burgeoning food scene, and the many green spaces and wilderness areas of East Tennessee. She’s an avid hiker and has visited the Smokies many times, so will be taking to the trails when she can.

As someone who is leaving the University of Florida, Coffey admits becoming a Vol may be a bit of a transition. Last fall, she had just submitted her application for the JEM director position, and a few days later found herself in the stands for the Florida-Tennessee football game in Florida. “Talk about an awkward moment,” she said. “I was feeling a bit conflicted and not quite sure who I was supposed to be rooting for.” The Gators won that game, but Coffey is headed to Rocky Top and will soon be wearing Tennessee orange.

Fun and rivalry aside, Coffey sees sports as a great unifying event that brings people together and is happy to move from one large SEC school to another. Ever the educator, she noted the exuberant fanbase at UT is another fantastic opportunity for the flourishing sports communication program at the School of Journalism and Media, and she is impressed with how the school has partnered with the athletics program to provide those hands-on experiences.

“With Tennessee’s sports legacy and the school’s proximity to the sports venues, it’s a no-brainer to integrate these hand-on opportunities into the student experience. But I am excited about all of it, whether it’s news, science communication, or any of the other creative outlets, like Land Grant Films. CCI’s media assets can be a living laboratory for students,” she said. “With all these immersion opportunities in one location, students can acquire multiple lines of experience on their résumés without ever leaving the building. Not many schools can offer that. This will establish Tennessee grads as ready for the job market on day one, and that’s appealing to employers—and that’s one way that CCI and JEM students can stand apart from their peers.”

  9. What is the difference between assignment Ada and Seperate ...

Assignment Ada only takes place at chapter 5-1 of the island in leon's story. Ada has the same weaponry she does in the mercenaries. You find 5 plaga samples scattered around the map. Lots of ganados (no regenerators). No merchants (or yellow herbs iirc). A couple machine gunners. Takes like an hour.

  10. Separate Ways Reward? How about 'Assignment Ada'?

No it didn't, assignment ada was an arcady minigame akin to 4th survivor and re3's mercenaries mode, separate ways was what ada was doing during the actual campaign and plays like a short version of the main campaign They are completely different game modes that don't invalidate each other
