EE Launches new ‘Flex Plans’ Offering the Flexibility of Pay as You Go with the Ease of Pay Monthly
- EE set to launch ‘Flex plans’ - designed for the 2.1m UK consumers who want the limited commitment of pay-as-you-go and the simplicity of a pay monthly plan
- Flex customers can change their plan at any time as well as benefit from mobile data boosts and data rollover
- New 30-day Flex plans set to launch on the 25th July and include £30 for 20GB and £25 for 10GB with unlimited texts and 3000mins
EE today announced Flex plans, offering a new service designed to meet the needs of the 2.1 million UK customers EE predicts want the control and flexibility of pay-as-you-go with the simplicity and ease of pay monthly plans.
The new plans add to the wide range of choice for those wanting the best mobile experience, whether that’s pay-as-you-go, pay monthly or now one of EE’s Flex plans – all on a UK network that offers 4G in more places than any other.
Set to launch on the 25 th July, Flex plans give customers the best of both worlds. Like pay monthly plans, a Flex plan allows customers to set up one regular payment so they never have to worry about topping up, but like on pay as you go, there’s no contract so they can change, pause or stop their plan and take a break whenever they like.
Max Taylor, Managing Director of Marketing, EE said: “Our new plans give customers great flexibility and control and are unpinned by the UK’s best network. Customers on Flex plans have the freedom to pause or change their plan at any time, with the value and simplicity offered from a traditional pay monthly plan.”
Customers can swap to a Flex plan that better suits their needs at any time. If a customer uses all their call minutes or data allowance, they can simply add more data or top-up their minutes with a one-off payment. Customers can keep track and manage their plan with total control through the MYEE app.
Flex customers will receive a free data boost the longer they stay on a Flex plan – receiving an extra 500MB every three months. And if a Flex customer doesn’t manage to get through all their data, they can roll over what’s left into next month’s allowance so they get a second chance to use it.
EE is introducing four new great value 30-day Flex plans as follows:
Furthermore, EE Flex customers will also be able to use their UK call, text and data allowance when abroad in the EU as well as receive customer support from UK and Ireland call centres.

Notes to Editors
If a customer runs out of data, they can simply add more data - £1.50 (100MB), £5 (500MB), £7.50 (1GB)

Help with Switching to Three
Below you'll find answers to the most common questions about switching when using a PAC or STAC. You’ll also find info about your compensation rights.
Ready to switch? Head over to our Switching Hub .
Switching to Three using a PAC
What's a pac code.
PAC stands for Porting Authorisation Code. You’ll need a PAC to switch to our network and keep your number.
A PAC gives us permission to transfer your mobile number to the Three network and close your account with your existing provider at the same time.
How do I get a PAC code?
You can get a PAC from your old provider by texting PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. This is totally free. Please note: If you’ve got multiple lines with your old network, you may need to contact them directly to get your PAC.
How do I use a PAC code to switch to Three?
Switching to Three with a PAC is easy.
If you’ve already got a Three account and SIM:
- Get a PAC from your old provider
- Activate your new SIM
- Complete our online switching form
Or get in touch and give us your PAC and we’ll do the rest.
If you haven’t joined Three yet:
- Set up your new Three account and contact us when you’re asked for your PAC.
Important information about bringing your number to Three
Your new Three SIM must be activated by 17:00 on the last working day before your number is transferred. For example, if your transfer is scheduled to take place on a Monday, your SIM would need to be activated by 17:00 on the previous Friday.
How to activate your new Three SIM
All you need to do is put your SIM into your device and switch it on.
When you see signal bars, that’s your SIM activated. You might need to switch Wi-Fi off to see the signal bars.
Once your SIM is active, you can use it immediately. Or you can go back to your old network SIM until the transfer is completed.
Will my old provider charge me for leaving?
To find out if you’ll be charged by your old provider for closing your account or if you’ve got anything outstanding to pay, text INFO to 85075 from the number you want to keep. Sending this message is free.
Please note: If you’ve got multiple lines with your old provider, you may need to contact them directly for more information.
Can I use a PAC code to switch from one Three account to another?
No, a PAC is only for changing to a different network.
Looking for a new deal on your existing contract? Check out our great upgrade offers . And we’ve got loads of Business contract deals for current Business customers, too.
Already purchased a new contract and want to bring your existing Three number over? Contact us so we can help.
When will my number be transferred?
If you give us your PAC by 17:00 on a working day, we’ll aim to transfer your number the next working day.
The transfer may take 2 working days if we get your PAC after 17:00, over the weekend or on a Bank Holiday.
Your PAC is active for 30 days, so you can pick a switching date that suits you. Remember Bank Holiday dates can’t be chosen, and some other dates may also be unavailable.
Please note: Your Three SIM must be activated by 17:00 on the last working day before your transfer happens.
For example, if your transfer is scheduled to take place on a Monday, your SIM would need to be activated by 17:00 on the previous Friday.
Can I switch using a PAC code whilst I'm abroad?
No, to transfer your number, you need to be connected to the Three network in the UK. If you’re abroad when a transfer is scheduled, it’ll be delayed until you get back to the UK.
Please note: If your PAC expires before you return to the UK, you’ll need to get a new one by texting PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. This is totally free.
You’ll also need to submit a new switching request.
What should I expect to happen on the day that number transfers?
We’ll send a text to your new Three SIM on the morning your number is due to transfer. We can’t send texts to your old network SIM though.
Most transfers will be completed between 10:00 and 16:00 but can take up to 22:00.
You might notice some loss of service while the transfer is happening. Don’t worry, it shouldn’t last long and is a sign that everything is going well.
We recommend switching your device off and on again every now and then to check if the transfer is complete.
Switching to Three using a STAC
What’s a stac and when would i use one.
STAC is short for Service Termination Authorisation Code. Not everyone wants to keep their old number when switching networks. A STAC lets you switch to Three and get a new number from us. It also gives us permission to cancel your account with your old network at the same time.
How do I get a STAC from my old provider?
You can get a STAC from your old provider by texting STAC to 75075 from the number you want to leave behind. This is totally free. Please note: If you’ve got multiple lines with your old provider, you may need to contact them directly to get your STAC.
How do I use a STAC to switch to Three?
Switching to Three with a STAC is easy.
1. Get a STAC from your old provider
2. Complete our online switching form
Or get in touch and give us your STAC and we’ll do the rest.
To find out if you’ll be charged by your old provider for closing your account, or to see if you’ve got anything outstanding to pay, text INFO to 85075 from the number you want to leave behind. Sending this message is free.
Please note: If you’ve got multiple lines with your old network, you may need to contact them directly for more information.
When will the account with my old provider be closed?
When you give us your STAC, you must let us know when you want your switch to happen. We’ll contact your old network on that date and they’ll close your account within 24 hours.
After we’ve got your PAC or STAC code
Why hasn’t my number transferred as expected.
Check the most common causes for delay below. If they don’t help, please contact us .
Did you activate your Three SIM?
Your new Three SIM must be activated by 17:00 on the last working day before your transfer date.
If you’ve not activated it on time, don’t worry. Follow these steps and the transfer will be completed within 1 working day. Or 2 working days if done after 17:00, over the weekend, or on a Bank Holiday.
To activate your new Three SIM, put it into your device and switch it on.
If you activated your SIM on time, but your number’s still not been transferred, please contact us .
Are you abroad?
You must be connected to the Three network in the UK to complete the transfer. If you’re abroad when the transfer is scheduled, it’ll be delayed until you return to the UK.
Please note: If your PAC expires during this time, you’ll need to get a new one and submit a new switching request .
Am I entitled to compensation if my transfer is delayed?
The information below applies to customers who gave Three a PAC or STAC on or after 3 April 2023.
If your transfer fails, or is delayed because of us or your existing provider, then you’re entitled to compensation for the period of the delay.
For delays or failures to your agreed transfer date, you’ll get compensation on your Three account within 30 days. This will be added to your account automatically.
If you’re a Pay As You Go customer, your refund will be added as cash credit. And for Pay Monthly customers, it’ll be added to your account as a bill credit.
If you’d like to talk to us about your compensation rights or query a new or existing claim, please contact us .
If you’re a Business customer, the same applies when switching fewer than 24 numbers at one time. To discuss your compensation rights on a Business account, please contact us .
Why might compensation not be paid if my transfer is delayed?
There are some scenarios which wouldn’t be classed as an error by us or your existing provider. They include:
Being abroad when the transfer is supposed to complete – the transfer would be delayed until you return to the UK and reconnect to the Three UK network.
Your new Three SIM wasn’t activated by 17:00 on the last working day before your transfer date.
Incorrect or miss-typed information on the switching request form.
The PAC or STAC given to us had already expired.
What other compensation might I be entitled to?
If you have a problem with your transfer, please contact us so that we can help as soon as possible. Some of the scenarios where you may be entitled to compensation are:
A transfer that was completed fraudulently or without your consent
Experiencing multiple issues and delays during the switching process
Not being adequately informed about the process
Experiencing unexpected loss of service for more than 1 working day during the switching process, caused by failure or delays to the transfer request.
If you need additional accessibility support for a compensation query, you can arrange to speak to our customer wellness team.
Can I change or cancel my number transfer?
Yes. You can change or cancel a transfer up until 17:00 on the working day before your transfer is due to take place. For example, if your transfer day is a Monday, you can change or cancel the move up until 17:00 on the previous Friday.
To change or cancel your number transfer, please contact us .
I’m having trouble making or receiving calls after moving my number
Something may have gone wrong during the transfer. Please contact us so we can have a closer look.
Why does my phone show the wrong number after transferring?
Your phone has saved a previously used number – perhaps your temporary Three number.
This can be fixed by updating your device settings. You can find steps on how to do this on our device support page :
Select your phone
Choose Settings from the list of how-to guides
Tap Edit your phone number
I forgot to activate my new Three SIM. Will my number still be transferred?
If you activate your new Three SIM by 17:00 on the last working day before your number is due to be transferred, it’ll go ahead as planned.
If you’ve not activated it on time, don’t worry. Follow these steps and the transfer will complete within 1 working day. Or 2 working days if it’s after 17:00, over the weekend, or on a Bank Holiday.
To activate your new Three SIM, put it into your device and switch it on. When you see signal bars, that’s your SIM activated. You might need to switch off Wi-Fi to see the signal bars.
Once your SIM is active, you can use it immediately. Or go back to your old network SIM until the transfer is completed.
Why is my old account still active after giving Three a STAC code?
Your old provider should close your account within 24 hours of the day you asked for your transfer to be done. If that hasn’t happened, please get in touch with your old network directly.
What accessibility services can you provide once I transfer my services to Three?
We know that one size doesn’t fit all. We aim to be inclusive and provide the right level of support for every customer.

EE Pay As You Go Review: All You Need to Know About Bundles and Packs
EE are the largest mobile operator in the UK. And if you’re looking for a decent PAYG mobile plan, then they are certainly one to consider.
Currently, EE offers three types of bundle on Pay As You Go: Everything Packs, Data Packs and Talk Packs. Bundles can be purchased for just £1 per week and include a quarterly free boost.
But how do EE prices compare and are they any good? We’ve got everything you need to know about pay as you go service from EE right here.
Table of Contents
Is payg for me, payg options with ee, data rollover, out of bundle charges, extras and benefits for ee payg customers, loading/stopping/checking credit, how does payg with ee compare to other operators, coverage and tethering with ee.
- EE's PAYG Plans: The Bottom Line
Our Top Pick
Before we get into the details, it’s worth considering if pay as you go is really the right option for you. There are pros and cons here.
On the plus side, you won’t need to pass a credit check. You also won’t be paying for tons of minutes, texts or data that you won’t be using, which could be the case on a mobile contract with large monthly limits. If you’re a light phone user particularly then PAYG could save you a bunch of money.
On the other hand, prices tend to be higher on PAYG than on contract, so if you’re a more regular phone user you’ll probably get savings by opting for a contract. Plus, with PAYG there’s always the chance that you can run out of credit when you need it, which isn’t possible on contract.
The choice is really yours, but do consider your options carefully before deciding whether to sign a contract or opt for a PAYG SIM .
Anyone can order a free PAYG SIM from EE. However, once you’ve got that SIM then you’ll need to decide how exactly to use it. Technically, you can load money onto your SIM card and just use your phone (for prices on that see the “out of bundle charges” section below).
However, you’ll be required to purchase a PAYG bundle at least once before you can just use your phone in a traditional PAYG fashion. Plus, buying bundles with EE definitely saves you money in the long run.
EE offers several different bundles to PAYG customers. A bundle is basically an allotment of minutes, texts, and/or data that you pay a set price for and that is then valid for 30 days (though if you go over your limits you’re free to buy another bundle before that 30-day limit has passed). And EE has plenty of PAYG bundles to choose from.
Everything Packs
EE’s Everything Packs are PAYG bundles that include minutes, texts and data. All are valid for a 30 day period, and there are six options:
- 100 minutes, 250 texts, and 150 MB of data for £5
- 250 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data for £10
- 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 2 GB of data for £15
- 1500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 4 GB of data for £20
- 2000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 8 GB of data for £25
- 3000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 16 GB of data for £30
If you really only use your phone for data, or if you’ve gone over your data limit in one of the bundles above but still have plenty of minutes and texts left, then you can also opt for a data pack. These give a low amount of minutes but a larger amount of data. There are two options and both are valid for 30 days:
- 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 2 GB of data for £10
- 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 5 GB of data for £15
Alternatively, if data isn’t your thing, or if you don’t have a smartphone, then you can opt for a talk pack that will give you minimal data but more minutes. Again, there are two options:
- 25 minutes, 50 texts, and 10 MB of data for £1 valid for 7 days
- 5000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 50 MB of data for £10 valid for 30 days
In general, once the validity period of your bundle is over then all remaining credit disappears. The exception to that rule is data if you’ve bought an Everything Pack or a Data Pack. If you buy either of these and you renew the pack within 7 days of the old pack expiring then any unused data in your old pack will roll over to your new pack. You can only do this once, and there are a few conditions, but you can get the full low-down on data rollover on EE’s website here .
If you decide not to buy bundles and just want to use your PAYG phone, or if you go over the limits of your bundle, then standard out of bundle charges will apply. These aren’t cheap, so be warned. Out of bundle charges with EE are as follows:
- 35p per minute for calls to any network and for voicemail calls
- 44p per minute to special rate numbers, not including any fees from the number itself
- 15p per text message
- 40p per MMS
Note that there’s no out of bundle charge for data. This is because EE will NOT allow you to use mobile data without a bundle!
You do get a few extras for being an EE PAYG customer as well, so be sure to take advantage of these! Here are the benefits you can expect:
- Quarterly Boosts: renew a pack three times and you’ll get a boost of your choice of 500 MB of data, 50 calling minutes, or 250 texts (except for the £5 Everything Pack which gets a choice of 100 MB of data, 25 calling minutes, or 50 texts)
- Free-Roaming: use your PAYG phone anywhere in the EU for the same prices as you pay at home
- Frequent Special Offers: EE very often offers extra data to PAYG customers, so it’s worth keeping an eye on their publicity emails/texts!
EE makes it easy to deal with PAYG credit. You can always deal with adding, checking, or stopping auto-renewal of credit by calling EE’s customer service, but accessing your online account, or by using the My EE app on your phone. Alternatively, you can do all this by text message, which is the most convenient option.
Loading Credit By Text
To load credit by text you’ll need to send a text to 150. The body of the text depends on which pack you want. For Everything Packs you’ll need to text EP followed by the price of the pack (so EP5, or EP10, or EP15, for example). For Data Packs you’ll need to text DP followed by the price of the pack (so DP10 or DP15). And for Talk Packs you’ll need to text TTP followed by the price of the pack (so TTP10, for example).
Checking Credit By Text
Checking the remaining balance of your pack or credit is easy. To check how many minutes, texts or how much data is left in an active pack simply text AL to 150. To check how much overall credit you have remaining simply text BA to 150.
Stopping Auto-Renewal By Text
All bundles with EE automatically renew as long as there’s enough credit in your account to pay for them. If you do NOT want this to happen then you’ll need to text STOP PACK to 150 before the expiration date of your current pack.
PAYG prices tend not to vary too much amongst operators, however, EE does do pretty well in comparison to other services when it comes to cheap bundles , though less well when things get more expensive.
On the lower end of the scale, £5 gets you 100 minutes, 250 texts, and 150 MB of data with EE . The same amount gets you 150 minutes, 250 texts and 100 MB of data with Vodafone. Whilst £6 gets you 300 minutes, 500 texts and 500 MB of data with Giffgaff. However, the winner here is Asda Mobile, which gets you 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500 MB of data for £5.
For £10 bundles, EE doesn’t do quite as well. The EE £10 pack gets you 250 minutes, unlimited texts and 1 GB of data. However, you can get unlimited texts and minutes and 4 GB of data for the same price from Three, or unlimited texts and minutes and a whopping 6 GB of data from Giffgaff for £10 .
£15 gets you 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and 2 GB of data from EE. But you’ll get unlimited texts and calls and 10 GB of data for the same price from Three , or unlimited texts and calls and 15 GB of data from Giffgaff. And £20 buys you 1500 minutes, unlimited texts and 4 GB of data from EE. But you can get unlimited texts and calls and 12 GB of data for the same price from both Asda Mobile and Three, or unlimited calls and texts and 40 GB of data from Giffgaff.
The bottom line here is that if you’re not going to be buying a lot of credit then EE is a great choice. Bigger phone users, however, will probably find that they get better prices with other operators…
EE do offer some of the best coverage in the UK with around 99% coverage across the country for 2G, 3G, and 4G. But it’s always a good idea to double-check your local area before committing to service, just in case you’re in a rare black spot. You can do this easily by using the official OFCOM coverage checker, or by checking the coverage map on EE’s website .
Do note that EE doesn’t currently offer fast 5G mobile data speeds on PAYG plans.
For those i nterested in tethering (using a mobile data connection to get another device such as a tablet online) then the good news is that EE allows tethering without any restrictions at all.
EE’s PAYG Plans: The Bottom Line
EE focus firmly on bundles when it comes to PAYG customers. However, prices aren’t always terribly competitive, especially if you’re a big phone user. That data rollover option is nice to have though, and the fact that EE give you extra minutes, texts or data every three months is also pretty tempting. A PAYG plan isn’t for everyone, but EE’s wide range of bundles should mean that if PAYG is what you want there’s something in the line up for you.

EE Pay As You Go Subscription Packs: Bundles From £10 Monthly Top Up
EE offers Subscription Packs from £10 per month on Pay As You Go. You’ll get 4G coverage with download speeds of up to 25Mbps, Data Rollover & Free Boosts.
At present, you can get 8GB of data on EE’s £10 Subscription Pack . This increases to 25GB data for £15, 50GB data for £20, and 125GB data for £30.
If you want access to faster download speeds (more than 25Mbps), you’ll need to choose an EE Pay Monthly SIM card instead. Alternatively, there are 5G-ready Pay As You Go deals from Lyca Mobile and 1pMobile – both of which offer 4G & 5G coverage on the EE network.
In this article, we’ll review EE’s Pay As You Go service including the Subscription Pack bundles and how they compare to those available on other networks. We’ll also look at the coverage available and how you can keep your current phone number when you switch to EE.

EE Pay As You Go Plans
If you don’t want to top-up your phone every month, you can also use EE’s Pay As You Go service without buying a pack. Calls will cost 40p/minute and texts will cost 20p each. However, mobile data is only available when you buy a pack. For this reason, you’ll probably be better off getting a different SIM card for low usage .
Monthly Bundles
With Subscription Packs, you’ll need to top-up your SIM card every month. Your Pay As You Go credit will then be exchanged automatically for a 30-day allowance of minutes, texts and mobile data.
The following table shows EE’s current Pay As You Go bundles:
All four Pay As You Go bundles are restricted to 4G coverage. This means you won’t be able to access EE’s 5G network. In addition, download speeds are capped at a maximum of 25Mbps on EE Pay As You Go. Although this will still allow you to do things like streaming ultra-HD video online, larger downloads such as apps and games may take longer to download.
You can get a 10% discount on your bundle when you take advantage of EE’s Subscribe to Save feature . With this feature, you’ll need to provide EE with your bank card details. You’ll then need to set-up an automatic top-up each month which goes towards the cost of your Subscription Pack plan.
Lyca Mobile Bundles
On Lyca Mobile, you’ll get access to 4G and 5G coverage from EE. You’ll also get a lot more data than you would on EE’s Subscription Packs. For instance, Lyca Mobile offers 20GB data for £2.39 per month for 3 months (£7.90 per month thereafter). This compares to £10 per month for just 8GB data on EE’s Pay As You Go service.
The following table shows Lyca Mobile’s best value plans in February 2024, with 4G & 5G coverage from EE:
Unlike EE’s Pay As You Go Subscription Packs, there are no download speed restrictions on the Lyca Mobile plans using EE coverage. This means you’re able to access download speeds that are faster than 25Mbps, including super-fast 5G speeds if you have a compatible handset and coverage.
Out Of Bundle Charges
If you don’t have an active Subscription Pack on your account, you’ll pay EE’s standard Pay As You Go rates instead.
The following table shows EE’s current Pay As You Go rates:
If you’re looking for a Pay As You Go plan where you don’t need to top-up every month, there are far better options out there for light users. For instance, 1pMobile offers 4G & 5G coverage from EE. On 1pMobile, you’ll pay just 1p/minute, 1p/text and 1p/MB.
EE Pay As You Go Features
25mbps download speeds.
For comparison, EE’s Pay Monthly customers will get access to both 4G and 5G coverage from EE. There are also faster download speeds available (up to 100Mbps on EE’s Essential plans, and uncapped download speeds on EE’s All Rounder and Full Works plans).
If you’re looking for faster download speeds and 5G coverage from EE on a Pay As You Go basis, consider getting a SIM card from Talk Home Mobile or 1pMobile instead. Both of them offer access to EE’s 5G network, along with lower prices compared to EE’s Pay As You Go service.
Data Rollover
To qualify for data rollover, you’ll need to renew your Pay As You Go pack within seven days of the previous pack expiring. Only your core data allowance will be rolled over into the following month’s bundle. Your unused data can only be rolled over for one month and it isn’t possible to roll over your Free Boost allowance.
To give an example, if you have 3GB of unused data on EE’s £10 Subscription Pack, you can roll it over to get 11GB data for £10 the following month (the original 8GB data, plus 3GB of rolled over data). For more information, see the EE website for further details about how data rollover works.
Free Boosts
The Free Boosts will increase your monthly data allowance by 500MB per month (0.5GB per month) for all subsequent purchases.
To give an example, customers on the £10 Subscription Pack start off with 8GB data per month. This will increase to 8.5GB per month after two months, 9GB per month after four months, and so on. You can earn a maximum of six Free Boosts which equates to an extra 3GB data per month. This gives a total of 11GB on the £10 pack once you’ve been an EE Pay As You Go customer for 12 months.
Your Free Boost allowances cannot be rolled over.
How To Buy & Stop Packs
You can also buy a Pay As You Go pack by texting the relevant shortcode to 150 as follows:
You’ll need to make sure you have enough credit remaining on your account before you buy a Pay As You Go pack. If you aren’t sure how much credit you have remaining on your account, you can check your balance by texting BALANCE to 150. This will also tell you the remaining allowances in your current pack.
To see a reminder of the Pay As You Go packs that are available to you, text ALL PACKS to 150.
If you set up monthly card payments with EE, you won’t need to manually purchase your pack every month. Instead, your pack will be purchased automatically every month, with the payment for it taken from your registered credit card or debit card. You’ll also benefit from EE’s 10% Subscribe To Save discount.
If you’d like to stop the automatic renewal of your EE Pay As You Go pack, text STOP PACK to 150. Alternatively, if you’d like to renew your Pay As You Go pack early, text NOW to 150.
If you’d like a new mobile phone, you can buy one from the EE website . At present, you can buy a new Pay As You Go phone for as little as £15, plus a minimum top-up of £10.
If you already have an unlocked mobile phone that you’re happy to use, simply order a free Pay As You Go SIM card from EE’s website .
2G, 3G & 4G Coverage
Before joining EE’s Pay As You Go service, we’d recommend double-checking the coverage in your area. You can do this by entering your postcode on EE’s website :
Check EE Coverage (ee.co.uk) →
The download speed on EE’s Pay As You Go service is capped at a maximum of 25Mbps. In addition, 5G coverage is not available to EE Pay As You Go customers. For alternative options that give you access to 5G, see our guide to 5G Pay As You Go plans .
If you’re using a compatible smartphone, you’ll get Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling on EE Pay As You Go. EE’s WiFi Coverage Boost is also available if you’ve topped up with at least £5 of credit in the past 30 days.
For more information, see our EE network & coverage review .
Tethering & Personal Hotspot
On EE Pay As You Go, you can use tethering and personal hotspot without any restrictions. This means you can share a mobile broadband connection and your data allowance with other devices.
For frequent users of the tethering or personal hotspot feature, other mobile networks like giffgaff may be worth considering as an alternative to EE. For the same monthly price, giffgaff offers a larger data allowance which will normally be more suitable for sharing with other devices.
International Roaming
In July 2021, EE introduced a £2 daily charge for Pay Monthly customers to use their mobile phone in Europe . This £2 daily charge does not apply to EE Pay As You Go customers.
Outside Europe, it isn’t possible to use your Pay As You Go pack allowances. Instead, you’ll be charged additional fees for using your mobile phone abroad outside Europe. You can check the international roaming rates on the EE website .
Keeping Your Phone Number
Start by ordering your SIM card on the EE website . You’ll need to have your EE SIM card before the number transfer can take place. After you order the SIM card, you can request a PAC Code from your old network.
Once you’ve received the new SIM card from EE, you can head over to this online form . In the form, you’ll be able to submit your PAC Code to EE. Your phone number transfer will then be scheduled, normally for the next working day.

Hi Ken, I am a light user of a EE PAYG sim card. In order to keep the card “active”, I must use it once in a while. Recently, I can only make a call (a charge of 35p a minute), but strangely I can’t send out a text (15 p per message). Is that correct that I must now buy a pack in order to text? Or, the failure of texting is due to a technical issue?
Ken replied:
Hi Louis, Thanks for your comment. As far as I know, it should still be possible to send text messages without having a pack. It might be worth double checking the SMS text messaging centre settings on your phone – more info here . Ken

Agreeing with Ten Yen’s observations here. After topping up the minimum of £5 and texting TALK01, I got a reply saying “just so you know, you’re currently on one of our older packs that aren’t available to buy anymore…” I definitely wasn’t informed before and why on earth would I have gotten the “you need £1 credit for you next £1 Talk Pack” prompt this morning if you stopped offering this? There’s no mention anywhere online that this was discontinued either. I am not happy.
Mark replied:
Talk01 pack has disappeared or been cancelled and is not available or seems to has gone, however try VIPTALK01

HOW TO SWITCH FROM EE TO A NEW PROVIDER
Thinking about leaving the UK’s number 1 network?*
We’d be sorry to see you go. But we’re here to help with what you’ll need to give to your new provider before you switch:
- Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) – if you want to keep your mobile number (port number)
- Service Termination Authority Code (STAC) – if you want to change phone number
Not sure whether moving is right for you? To help you decide, you can ask us for switching information about your plan and find out if there are any charges to pay before you leave us.
And because PACs and STACs are valid for 30 days, you can take time deciding if leaving EE is right for you.
How to switch from EE online and keep your number (port number)
Keeping your mobile number when you move to a new network (known as ‘port number’) is something you can do online with EE. We’ll give you a Porting Authorisation Code – known as a PAC – so you can keep your number when you switch.
There are different steps to follow depending on whether you’re a small business customer or a large business customer.
Small Business
- Sign in to My EE
- In your mobile account, click ‘Switching mobile service’
- Because you want to keep your number, make sure you choose the PAC option and complete the online form
- We’ll email your PAC to you within 2 working days – and show it in your messages in My EE.
Large Business
- Sign in to Mobile Manage r
- Select Admin in the left-hand menu
- Select Manage Services
- Check the box next to any phone number you want to switch
- Select PAC then Update and then Yes
- We’ll get back to you within 2 working days. When your PAC’s ready, you’ll see a Mail icon in Mobile Manager.
When you get your PAC, you’ll need to give it to your new provider before they complete your order. This is so your number switches and you’re not billed by two providers at the same time.
PACs are valid for 30 days, which gives you lots of time to decide if leaving EE is right for you.
You can also ask us for switching information to help you make the right choice – just choose this instead of asking for a PAC.
More than one number on your plan? Give us a call about keeping your number when you switch – we’re ready to help port numbers for you. Or if you have more than 99 subscriptions, you can email us at sme.admin@ee.co.uk
How to switch from EE online and change phone number
If you want a new mobile number, you’ll need to give your new provider a Service Termination Authority Code (STAC). A STAC makes sure you don’t get billed by two providers at the same time. It’s easy to request a STAC from us online.
- As you don’t want to keep your number, make sure you choose the STAC option and complete the online form
- We’ll email your STAC to you within 2 working days.
- Select STAC then Update and then Yes
- We’ll get back to you within 2 working days. When your STAC’s ready, you’ll see a Mail icon in Mobile Manager.
When you get your STAC, give it to your new provider before they complete your order. STACs are valid for up to 30 days.
Want information to help you decide about switching? No problem. Instead of selecting STAC, just choose the switching information option online.
For requests for plans with more than one number, it’s better to call – we’re ready to help. Or if you have more than 99 subscriptions, you can email us at sme.admin@ee.co.uk
How to switch from EE over the phone
Just give us a call to request:
- A PAC to keep your current mobile number when you switch (‘port number’)
- A STAC to change phone number when you switch
- Switching information to find out more about your plan and if you need to pay anything extra
We’re ready to help – especially if you have more than one number on your price plan.
Making a large request? Because it includes lots of detail, we’ll probably send it to you by email.
We’ll also send any PAC or STAC to you by SMS.
If you’ve asked for a PAC or STAC, you can then pass it on to your new mobile provider if you decide to go.

EE review 2024: is their 5G/4G network worth the extra cost?
The retailers featured on this page may compensate us when our readers follow links to their websites and make a purchase. More
We look everything you get with EE like coverage, speeds and benefits to see if it's worth paying a bit more to join them on a SIM only or phone contract. Last updated: 15th September 2023.

“The main reason to join EE is pretty clear. They have the largest 4G network and their 4G data is the fastest in the country on average too. Their 5G rollout’s going well but they’re beatable on speed.
What stops us giving them a better score is how cynically expensive they are. Everything costs extra. You want their full speed 4G/5G? Pay for a premium plan. Want EU roaming? Pay more.
It’s a shame because they do have some innovative things like data gifting on their family plans and their WiFi calling / 4G calling is class leading.
Our advice? Join a cheaper provider like 1pMobile that offer all the benefits of EE’s network but skip all the worst bits about EE’s actual products.”
The 3 best bits
1) Biggest and fastest 4G network 2) Excellent WiFi calling / VoLTE 3) Nice shared plans for families
The 3 worst bits
1) More expensive than competitors 2) Speed caps on most plans 3) No EU roaming
Is EE actually the fastest network?
For 4G, all the independent testing and our own experience says yes. For 5G, Three are coming out faster than EE currently.
Is EE actually the biggest 4G network?
Yes. Independent network testing maps and mast data suggests EE have more of the country covered with 4G than any other network.
Can I keep my number on EE?
Yes you can. Just get a PAC from your old network by texting them the word PAC to 65075 from your old SIM and give this to EE when you sign up or whenever you’re ready.
Does EE have good customer service?
EE have an improving record with the government regulator Ofcom when it comes to complaints. They did have a reputation for bad customer service but they’ve brought more of their call centres back to the UK.
You don't have to pay EE's prices to get their network quality
✔ Identical coverage and WiFi calling See for yourself
at 1pmobile.com (opens in new window)
While we rate EE's network, we don't rate their prices. Alongside Vodafone, they're the UK's most expensive providers. Yet you can get the same network experience for a fraction of the cost.
We recommend 1pMobile for this ( read our full review here ). 1p have equal access to EE's full 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G networks, no speed caps and WiFi calling / 4G calling - all with no contract for a fraction of the price:
There are some other choices but these don't technically have identical coverage and they lack features like WiFi calling. 1pMobile are the only virtual operator with all that, now BT Mobile are closed to new customers.

Rating EE's mobile network
Coverage on ee is probably the uk’s best overall.
✔ Great urban and rural 4G signal Check your EE signal
at EE.co.uk (opens in new window)
Owned by BT, EE are one of the main UK networks, meaning they use their own network to provide signal. Of all providers, we’d say EE offer the best overall mix of call and data signal around the country.
They cover more of the UK’s landmass for 4G data (which you can use for 4G calling) than any other network. If you’re out and about you’ve got a better chance staying on 4G with EE.
We tested EE’s coverage by taking an EE SIM card to different locations to see if their real life coverage aligns with what their website claims. We tested in the countryside, in suburban areas and in the city.
In our experience, you have to be somewhere geographically unusual to lose call signal entirely, like on a beach or behind hills. With data, it’s a similar story. Total blackspots are incredibly rare.
We did find that indoor coverage for calls can be flakier on EE than some networks. But their 4G calling and WiFi calling would mostly come to the rescue in those places.
One thing we have found is that EE SIMs are now very reluctant to switch down to 3G when they’ve got poor 4G. This is possibly in advance of EE’s 3G phase out. We often ended up stuck on basically non-existent 4G, knowing full-well 3G could have helped.
EE’s call signal (3G/2G) isn’t quite as widespread as on their rivals Vodafone and O2, but is still quite strong ( indoor signal is a weakness, however). You can see all the providers that use EE here .
But it’s always worth checking their network map here to see how good signal is in your local area . And it’s worth looking at providers such as 1pMobile who share coverage with EE but offer much cheaper deals.
Useful link: EE’s guide to their network
The 5G rollout on EE is going well too
✔ Widespread 5G in covered locations 5G rollout news
All the main networks have invested into their 5G networks to provide the fastest speeds in the highest number of places. EE claim to have 5G in 317+ UK towns and cities and are the best at covering the locations they name.
This is because EE only declare their locations as covered once 5G is available in 50% of its area , while the other main networks sometimes claim to cover a location with just a few streets with 5G transmitters.
Even if your location is on their list, it’s still worth using their coverage checker to see how much of it is covered. See the dropdown below for the best current plans that get you access to EE’s 5G:
Both Lyca Mobile and 1pMobile offer cheaper deals that get you full access to EE’s 5G network. You can compare their deals with EE’s below:
Network testers Opensignal and Speedtest by Ookla measured typical 5G speeds between 108.91 Mbps - 122.3 Mbps, with peak speeds of 272.77 Mbps. They’re not the fastest, but those are still healthy speeds.

4G data speeds are EE’s main strength
✔ The fastest 4G speeds of all networks See EE awards
By joining EE or any of the providers that use their network, you’ll get access to the fastest possible 4G data speeds of any network. Results from network testers Opensignal back this up.
In their latest report, typical 4G speeds on EE went up to 47.7 Mbps. Those are the sorts of speeds you’d get on mid to high-end home fibre broadband and will let you stream 4K videos comfortably.
Sometimes with other networks, their speed results can be bumped up by higher speeds in urban areas while slowing down massively outside the city centre. We got speeds between 30-40 Mbps in suburban areas on EE.
While doing our coverage tests we also decided to check speeds in the same variety of locations, from the city centre to the suburbs to rural areas.
In the city centre we got speeds between 70-110 Mbps. And we got a healthy 30-40 Mbps in the suburbs on EE, whereas we typically slowed down to below 20 Mbps in the same areas on other networks.
When in rural areas your 4G will slow down to 8-15 Mbps both in smaller towns and in the countryside. That’s still enough to stream standard definition video without buffering.
What we found was that EE’s 4G speeds are faster than other networks’ in real life as well as in the network testers’ speed results. If you switch to EE from another network you would likely notice a difference right away.
EE’s speeds will depend per location, but they’re consistently the fastest network for 4G and offer healthy 5G speeds as well. But you can get the same speeds at much lower costs on 1pMobile .

Same as: 1pMobile , Lyca Mobile
Better than: O2, Vodafone and Three (and providers using these)
WiFi calling and 4G calling features are excellent
✔ Check if your device is supported See supported models
The only major downside of EE’s network is that their call signals (2G/3G) are broadcast on frequencies that aren’t ideal for getting into buildings . But, they have got features to help out with this.
You get WiFi calling and 4G calling included on any pay monthly SIM, phone contract or Pay As You Go plan . This lets your phone connect to calls using WiFi or 4G signal rather than conventional call (2G/3G) signal.
EE support lots of devices , even a lot of older Android devices on there. So you have a better chance of getting WiFi calling to work with EE than other networks. It makes sense as they’ve had it for ages.
We tried out EE’s WiFi calling by popping our SIM into an old Android model (Galaxy S7) that was not bought from EE directly and an iPhone 7. We got away from call signal and found WiFi calling worked on both.
Unless you already have strong call signal, WiFi calling should take over automatically whenever you try to make a call with a decent WiFi connection. It’s simpler to get it to kick in than on some networks.
We also tested if we could get a call transferred from WiFi to 4G signal without it dropping. When we went out of WiFi range we were switched to a 4G call without issue. But your call will drop if you then lose 4G.
Overall, EE’s WiFi calling and 4G calling works smoothly in the background and definitely helps make up for their generally weaker indoor signal.
The audio quality was as good as being on conventional signal and EE let you send/receive texts over WiFi/4G as well which is useful. In all, it’s a simple to use feature that does exactly what you’d want it to.
Again, to get WiFi calling on an EE-based network, do have a look at 1pMobile who offer the feature at a fraction of the cost of EE.
Useful link: EE's guide to their 4G calling
Our WiFi Calling rating: ★★★★★ ( excellent )
Rank: Joint 1st
Similar to: Three

There are loads of extra network features too
✔ Free WiFi on the London Underground How to connect on EE
EE offer access to lots of free WiFi hotspots on the Underground . This helps you stay connected in areas you’d otherwise get no signal and pairs well with their WiFi calling scheme so you’re rarely out of reach.
Tethering is also allowed on any EE plan , letting you turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot using your data signal. You can use your whole data allowance for this, and there are no limits on unlimited data plans.
You can also forward incoming calls to a different number on any EE plan. This is handy for keeping one line free from calls. And EE support visual voicemail , letting you sort through your voicemails one by one.
Finally, EE also offer eSIMs . So if you’re on a compatible device you can get your eSIM using the MyEE app, meaning you don’t have to wait for your QR code to be delivered. In all, EE offer a lot of handy features.

EE benefits reviewed
Family plans are well set up on ee.
✔ Gift data to users on your account How data gifting works
No doubt the greatest benefit of being on EE is their excellent network, but they don’t really offer a tonne of extra benefits outside of that, especially when compared to some other networks.
EE give you 30% off any SIM only plan on a 12 or 24-month contract and any usage plan (mins, texts, data) on their Flex Pay phone contracts. That’s on top of the added convenience of having your plans in one place.
And you can gift data from one user to another if they’re on the same EE account, which is handy if one user gets through all their data. It’s a great way to avoid extra data charges, especially if you’ve got kids .
You also get a 1GB data boost for every user added to your account, which you can gift to other users if need be. In all, it’s a great scheme for setting up a family account ( but there are better choices out there ).
Useful link: All benefits of EE's family accounts
Our group plan rating: ★★★★☆ ( very good )
Not as good as : SMARTY
Better than: All others
There are premium added extra options too
✔ One way to get EU roaming included See your choices
If you’re looking for a premium experience then EE’s Full Works and All Rounder plans might just be for you. These come with different numbers of added benefits you don’t get on other plans at an added cost.
Taking either kind of plan will let you take these Inclusive Extras . You can choose one of these on an All Rounder plan and three on a Full Works plan and you can take either plan on a SIM only or phone contract.
Some of the benefits include a subscription to TNT Sports, Netflix, Apple Music, Apple TV+, an unlimited video data streaming pass and their Roam Abroad pass ( see EE’s guide to their roaming ).
Whether these appeal to you depends on what you want. Bear in mind, they’re not freebies. So if you don’t really want any of these, it’s smarter to not take a more expensive premium plan.
Useful link: EE's guide to their Inclusive Extras
Some nice free trials to Apple services on any plan
✔ Free trials to three Apple services See what you get
On any EE plan you’ll get six months free trials to Apple Music and Apple News+ and you can also get a six months free trial to Apple TV+ if you take out an iPhone. These give you a bit of extra value on your plan.
What’s even better is that the data you use for Apple Music during the trial period won’t come out of your allowance, which can save a handy bit of data. But after the trial period it will use up your data like normal.
You get all of these trials on top of your plan. It’s just a shame they don’t offer trials to TNT Sports anymore. Android users miss out on Apple News+ and Apple TV+ meaning Apple users get more out of their plan.
But in all it’s a nice benefit to have that could save you a lot of money. Just remember to cancel these subscriptions once the trial is over or you’ll start being charged for them. They’re not total giveaways.
Useful link: How to claim your free trials
Our free subscriptions rating: ★★★★★ (best choice)
Slightly better than : Vodafone
Much better than: All others
Inclusive roaming is sadly only a premium feature
✔ EU roaming will cost you extra Why it’s changing
Like most of the main networks, EE no longer offer free EU roaming as standard on their pay monthly plans. Any new customers will have to pay a daily fee while abroad to access their regular UK allowance.
Roaming used to be included as standard on all pay monthly plans. You used to be able to access your whole monthly allowance in 48 EU destinations and some worldwide ones ( check them here ).
On EE’s regular plans you’ll have to pay £2 a day to use your UK allowance in EE’s covered EU countries. The only way around this is to get their Roam Abroad pass as an Inclusive Extra or for an added £10 a month.
So, your choice is either to pay more or pay slightly less on EE. But there are still a lot of providers that use EE’s network that offer inclusive EU roaming , with 1pMobile being our favourite choice out of these.

What else you get on EE
✔ Cap extra spending on EE How it works
EE let you set caps on extra spending , so you can control how much you spend on things outside of your plan. You can choose to put no cap or set a limit in £5 increments ( which isn’t as flexible as some networks ).
Some EE plans include their Stay Connected data benefit which lets you keep using data once you’ve used up your allowance, but with max speeds of 0.5 Mbps. That’s great for avoiding having to pay for extra data.
These plans give you EE’s Stay Connected data benefit:
You can call abroad on EE, but calls to some countries are quite expensive. For this, EE let you take an International Pack that gives you a bundle of international calls and reduces the cost of calling abroad.
EE also let you switch your plan up at any point and move it back down to your original plan. You can’t move to a smaller plan than your original, but this is still more flexible than what some networks let you do .
Finally, EE let you set stricter controls on what your kids can access on mobile data. This is great for keeping your kids safe online, but you’ll have to set separate controls on your home broadband for full protection.

What you don’t get on EE
✔ Data rollover on Pay As You Go only See qualifying plans
EE don’t include data rollover on their pay monthly plans. This usually lets you keep your unused data for a month or longer . They do offer it on their PAYG plans , but these are worse value than their regular deals:
You also don’t get free data streaming or social media use as a standard benefit like you do with VOXI’s Unlimited Social Media and Video benefits or Sky’s data free streaming for their TV apps .
Also if you run out of data in one month on EE it’s £8.34 for just 1GB . Compare that to SMARTY who offer data add-ons of just £1 for 1GB and you can see why avoiding extra data charges is important on EE.
EE don’t have a rewards app like the other main networks do. They do reward you for referring friends to them, but the rewards for doing so are moderate , so EE customers don’t get much for their loyalty.

EE now offer both traditional 24-month contracts and more flexible credit agreements (loans) that split your bill into one payment for your phone and another for your usage plan (mins, texts, data).
The main benefits of this are that you can set your contract length at 24 months or 36 months depending on your budget. And you can set your upfront payment higher or lower to suit you (but you can’t set it to £0).
You can also pay off your loan at any point if you want to upgrade to a new device. You will have to stay on your usage plan until your contract is over, however, so you can’t just leave EE when you want.
EE offer a nice bit of added flexibility with their contracts. But the fact that these are loans means it can be harder to pass a credit check, so you might have to look elsewhere if you have a poor credit history.

Pay As You Go: monthly packs of mins, texts and data only
✔ 1pMobile offer 1p rates on EE’s network See their tariff
EE don’t offer a traditional pay as you go scheme, where you top up with credit and your usage comes out of that ( 1pMobile offer the cheapest rates in the UK and get full access to EE’s network ).
1p per minute + 1p per text + --> 1p per MB data = --> £0 a month (0‑month contract) See full deal
If you compare EE’s Pay As You Go bundles to their pay monthly SIM only contracts, you’ll see you get much better value per GB with their contracts and you can potentially get Inclusive Extras on your plan.
There are a few good things, however: there’s no credit checks, you get data rollover and the flexibility to stop and change plans whenever you wish. You also get access to WiFi calling and 4G calling as usual.
If you want to stay on EE long term, then their pay monthly SIM only contracts are the better choice. But their PAYG bundles are good for testing out their network before joining them for a longer term.

EE customer service reviews
Customer service: ee’s complaints record has got worse.
✔ Quite a lot of customer complaints EE's UK call centres
When customers can’t get their issues resolved with their network, they can log a complaint with government regulator Ofcom. They publish the amount of complaints received about a network per 100,000 customers.
In Ofcom’s latest report the average number of complaints across all networks has gone up. The amount of complaints received about EE has gone up from 1 per 100,000 to 3 per 100,000 customers.
That’s not a good sign. It’s a shame considering they used to be one of the best networks for customer service. At the very least they only get an average number of complaints and aren’t as bad as some networks.
We’re not sure exactly why their record has got worse, but there are still lots of ways to get help on EE and their call centres are still UK based which is handy. Their customer service is still good, it’s just worse than it used to be.

Take a look at PAYG online where you will be able to port your number. The other alternative is to take a new PAYG number and move your EE number over by following this information Keep My Number . If you choose this option don't top up or add any payment card details until the number is ported. View solution in original position. 1 Thanks.
1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION. Yes, as long as you pass the credit checks and are accepted you can take the o2 contract now and then get your PAC from EE in June and transfer your number then. I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion.
Unlimited minutes + Unlimited texts + Unlimited data (5G) = £38 a month (12‑month contract) See full deal. 🛈 Monthly price will increase after March 31st each year by the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation published in December + 3.9%. So, your choice is either to pay more or pay slightly less on EE.
05-10-2013 13:06 - edited 05-10-2013 13:37. To move your mobile number to ee you would need to port it from O2 to ee by asking for a PAC code. This would end your O2 contract on giving this code to ee ,and you would be liable for any months remaining on your O2 contract. O2 are constantly improving their network.
