Changing Static IP address on Hikvision NVR & Cameras

  • Thread starter Pussycat

Hi there I wonder if someone could help me. I am thinking of changing my Broadband & phone provider and number but this will mean I will have a new static IP address. I am not sure how to change the static IP address on my Hikvision NVR & 4 cameras. I am not very tech minded but managed to get the system set up & working perfectly last year (with a bit of help from Phil!) Look forward to hearing from anyone! Regards

change ip hikvision camera

Hi @Pussycat The easiest way to change IP and Gateway addresses of IP cameras/NVRs is to use the Hikvision SADP Tool The SADP Tool scans your local network for any Hikvision devices, it not only scans for the IP address but also the unique MAC address of each device and so even if the devices are on a different IP range because you have changed ISPs (Internet Service Providers) the SADP Tool will still be able to find the devices and you can then modify the IP and gateway/router address of each device using the SADP Tool. When you switch providers you may not know your new gateway/router range, if you don't you can use the steps in this forum post to find out the details of your new network - How To find your router and PC's IP address using a Windows PC

Swap out IP Camera on Hikvision NVR

Getting the hang of it

I removed the two cameras that I needed to change and the new ones booted up correctly and are working fine. I then tried to change the old cameras to the ip address of the unused channels on the NVR. After making changes on the SDAP software, I tried to add the cameras to the NVR. I can't get the cameras to activate. I get the Network abnormal message. It would be real nice to have a guide as to how to add and activate the cameras. I have mounted the cameras at a remote storage building using Ubiquiti bridge. I have a swich at the remote building for network access and will be adding a wireless access point. I also have a small POE 4 channel switch for cameras.

Ok the old cameras you will need to plug into A Poe switch Or power up with a power brick And have them running into you router. Fire up sadp it should find them And if you remember the password When you tick that camera in Sadp Change it’s IP address to one not used in your net work then on the bottom right put in that camera password and hit modify it should then say parameters modified Now your camera will have a new IP address and you can the add that manually to the spare nvr channel If you have forgot that password you will have to rest the camera either with a reset button or the camera reset tool on this forum if rest the default ip will be 192.168.1.64 also make sure dchp is not ticked on that’s if you want to give it your own ip number you can leave is ticked once it automatically given you an ip but then untick it and hit modify again it will keep that ip

Thanks marku2, I will be working on the cameras again tomorrow. I did give the camera an IP address that wasn't used but I can't get the NVR to activate it. I am going to open the maintenance page on the NVR and see if I can get the cameras activated. I have been trying to use the IP address of the NVR to do the adding but most of the descriptions on youtube use the NVR's maintenance function so I will give that a try.

All cameras are now up and running. Thanks for the help.

I assigned an IP Address not in the NVR's range. I was trying to use an address close to the recorders range (192.168.254.30) but the unit wouldn't let me activate. I put in an address like 192.168.1.200 and it worked fine.

I was trying to use an address close to the recorders range (192.168.254.30 that is the internal network that the nvr uses you wont be able to set that as a ip for the camera your ip range is usually 192.168.1.2------192.168.1.250

How to change camera name on Hikvision NVR/DVR or IP camera

Marco Albertini

Follow these steps to change the camera name on Hikvision DVR, NVR, or IP cameras. In just a few steps you can rename your Hikvision surveillance cameras in the way that works better for you.

It’s always recommended to have your cameras renamed properly, that way it’s easier to monitor them and more intuitive when doing playback or backing up the footage.

change ip hikvision camera

Step 2: Select the camera to modify the OSD configuration using the camera dropdown menu (all the available cameras will be listed on the dropdown menu).

change ip hikvision camera

Note: There are a few options on the right side of the menu that may be useful. Such as checkboxes to Display the week, Display the Date, Time Format, Date Format, and Display Mode (we recommend keeping it non-transparent and non flashing).

On the right side, on the camera’s image itself, you can move the location of the camera’s name (or date) by dragging and dropping the box using your mouse.

Two causes: 1) the camera is not Hikvision (hence the recorder can’t access the settings of the camera); 2) the firmware on the camera (or recorder) needs to be updated.

Help! IP Camera’s IP Address Constantly Changes

2MP 1080P Outdoor IP Camera

  • " onclick="window.open(this.href,'win2','status=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,titlebar=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes,width=640,height=480,directories=no,location=no'); return false;" rel="nofollow"> Print

When we use the IP camera system, we may find that the local IP address of connected IP camera constantly changes after a period of time. Therefore the NVR looses the video connection with the camera. This happens even when we disable the DHCP function on the camera.

If you also recently encounter this little problem, you can solve this by simply binding the IP address to MAC address of the camera on the router/switch. Therefore, the IP camera will has this static IP address all the time.

1. Find the IP address and Mac address of your camera.

You can easily find the IP address and MAC address of your camera on the computers with command prompt.

IP address and MAC address ARP -a command

Running the CMD on your computer, then enter command: arp -a then press Enter , it will show the all the IP addresses and MAC addresses of network devices which are in the same local network.

2. Bind IP address and MAC address

Firstly making sure you set the IP address to a static one and DHCP should be disabled. Then login your router/switch’s admin webpage.

For D-Link router, click IP & MAC Binding->Binding setting on the left page. Select Enable ARP Binding , and click Save . Click Bind All to bind the IP address and MAC address for all connected devices. Additionally, you can add IP address and MAC address manually.

How to change the camera name on Hikvision NVR or DVR

In this article, I show how to change the camera name on a Hikvision NVR or DVR.

The process is straightforward and takes less than 5 minutes.

Let's see how it's done...

How to rename the cameras via a Web browser

When you log in to the NVR via a web browser, it's possible to see the screen's left side's camera names, as shown in the picture below.

Follow these steps to change the camera name on Hikvision DVR, NVR or IP cameras. In just a few steps you can rename your Hikvision surveillance cameras the way that works better for you. It’s always recommended to have your cameras renamed properly, that way it’s easier to monitor them and more intuitive when doing playback or backing up the footage.

The Hikvision NVR gives these names and not by the camera itself.

You can change rename the cameras in the recorder (DVR/NVR) OSD menu.

Here's the step-by-step on how to do it.

  • Open the camera via a web browser;
  • Click the "Configuration >> Image" menu;
  • Change the camera name on the right side of the screen;
  • Click the "Save" button.

The picture below shows the details.

Hikvision OSD Settings

You can also click the checkboxes to display the date/week and change the camera's date format  and name position on the screen.

And it's done. Pretty simple, huh?

I recommend renaming your cameras according to the place they are installed because it helps to identify where the events took place.

You can also use the DVR or NVR interface to change the camera's name.
