Homelink does not work well

  • Dec 1st 2023

The Homelink is not working properly on my Turbo, which is now 2 weeks old. I have already reprogrammed it several times and each time it is the same: you have to press the programmed control button x times (in my case the first of the freely programmable buttons from the left in the row of buttons under the middle air vents). The distance to the door system doesn't seem to play a role either. In the two other vehicles (Macan and Jaguar F-Type), the operation works both close to the door and at a distance of around 5 meters. I therefore rule out the door system as the cause. The system has no change code and is 14 years old, make "Mischler". I have tried it with and without additional entry of the address - no difference. The messages about the recording of the code in the PCM are always OK.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

Hallo rab2, Schau mal hier: Homelink does not work well [advertisement] Dort wird jeder fündig! :-)

Many people are quick to throw in the towel. My PZ, for example, was no help at all. In the end, I managed it with my neighbor's remote control, who had a more modern one than me. The Cayenne worked without any problems.

Operation: GPS sometimes works, sometimes not. The tile on the home screen has no effect, although HL is set up for me. Seems to be a PCM bug. However, calling up the vehicle menu always works. I need the hash key for other things. Now to your problem. Check whether this is your system:

The model number of the remote control was pasted over by the supplier of the door system and is 12 004030 09. What I was able to find, however, was the frequency: 433.92 MHz, i.e. a different frequency to that stated on the Homelink website. I'll try to find out something about the frequency from Homelink. As written in the original post: In the Macan (EZ 05/23) and in the Jaguar (EZ 03/20) it works relatively well (max. 2-3 attempts).

doesn't work with new door systems either, my Hörmann door, about 4 years old, doesn't work either. I called Homelink and they told me that I would have to install a transformer or something like that in the door operator because Homelink does not work with the newer Hörmann doors.

Right - something like this, for example: https://www.chamberlain.de/de-…/zubehor/homelink-pr433-4

However, this will reduce the safety of the operator (or the radio remote control).

First of all, thanks for the information! I can't convert the gateway transmitter, as other users (5 others in total) also have access to it.

Let's see if I can somehow manage to get the thing running...

Quote from rab2 First of all, thanks for the information! I can't convert the gate transmitter, as other users (5 others in total) also access it.

It is about the receiver - and the HomeLink receiver would be added to the existing receiver (via an external contact), technically this would probably work and the existing transmitters would continue to function.

Bisecur from Hoermann in conjunction with Homelink does not work.

I once read somewhere that this receiver probably allows parallel operation.

I always wanted to try it out myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Here is the link:

Correct, you can read about this on the Homelink website (compatibility list).

I have connected a Chamberlain receiver in parallel, then Homelink and Bisecur work.

Installation is very simple. Just connect it to the Hörmann motor, which is where the part gets its power.

Quote from Peppermill Operation: GPS sometimes works, sometimes not. The tile on the home screen has no effect, although HL is set up for me. Seems to be a PCM bug. However, it always works via the vehicle menu.

Installation on the 992 was very easy for me (a drama on the 981 at the time).

GPS recognition always works. However, there is one bug: all doors are always displayed, not just those at this position (as stated in the operating instructions).

Otherwise I am very satisfied.

Hörmann Bisecur is known not to work because of Hörmann's encrypted protocol, but this can be solved.

Incidentally, it is always advisable to call Homelink support if you have any problems. Very friendly and very competent.

992 Technology Issues

  • Add to quote

I picked up my 992 six weeks ago and have encountered some issues/glitches, all of which seem to be technology related. Has anyone else seen this with their 992? 1. Door handles do not always pop out when touched while the key is in a pocket. It only works about 50% of the time. 2. Thumb/hand does not always lock the doors when the handle indent is touched. It only works about 50% of the time. 3. Fronk does not always open when waving or rubbing a hand over the hood badge and/or above the latch area. It only works about 50% of the time. - These three issues occur with either key in my pocket. - The dealer suggested checking the battery in the keys and checking the antenna system that receives the signal. 4. The passenger mirror rotates UP when in reverse. This may just be a manual adjustment to reposition the mirror glass. 5. Homelink - GPS location programmed in the driveway does not always work to pop up the Homelink on the screen when pulling into the driveway. It only works about 50% of the time. 6. The speed limit sign display on the instrument panel sometimes freezes and doesn’t update. I recently drove from a 60 mph zone to a 40 mph zone to a 30 mph zone and the display continued to show 60 mph. Even after stopping and exiting the car, when I started it again after about 5-10 minutes 60 mph was still displayed.

If your dealer is looking into this (which I assume), what progress have they made so far? Curious to know since its been a week this this post. Someone I know with a 4S has the same door issue.

Thanks for your reply. I have mentioned these issues to the dealer and will probably wait another month or so before taking it in. I want a little more time to evaluate to see if there is a pattern of cause and effect.

I have noticed the same with the door handles/ locking and the mirrors, but didn’t know the fronk opened with a hand wave, and have not had success even programming the homelink.

For the Homelink, I had to call 1.800.PORSCHE and have them walk me through it. Once it is set up, it is linked to GPS positioning and the Homelink button pops up automatically on the screen when you approach your driveway. All you have to do is touch the screen and the garage door opens. (This also only works about 50% of the time). I have the Homelink set on the programmable key on the steering wheel so I can press that key also and the Homelink button pops up on the screen. I don't really love technology...

I found the "sweet spot" to wave over and open the frunk but the doors still do not lock with a touch.

Hi guys, just found this thread while trying to fix the door handle issue described here on my 992. I have this issue from day 1, already once in service and not fixed..dealer took the classical stance "it works for us" ...curious if you found a solution. I had the mirror issue as well and it was fixed by dealer by some set up steps. Thank you Bogdan

Ivan B said: As you may know I started this discussion. I can only talk about the door locks and the Homelink, so here goes. My 2020 992 CS has all spent a total of 23 days at my local dealer. The most recent 14 day visit included a complete reboot of the computer , a new battery, a new set of keys, a new door control unit and replacement of both door locks. I was having a meeting with the General Manager when they brought me my "new" keys and gave me a 4 page description of all the work that was completed. I asked him to meet me outside where I handed him the keys and asked him to open the door (OOPS!). These problems are inherent to the car, and I don't believe Porsche knows how to fix it I gave up with the Homelink which works when you come home but can"t be access when you back out without having to go thru multiple steps on the home screen. Bought and extra garage door opener and stuck it on my visor. They agreed to take the car back and I am now driving a 2020 Panamera Grand Tourismo GTS (and everything works). Click to expand...

First I was told it was my cell phone interfering with the signal. Than it was the car had a built in delay of 30 minutes, then the key batteries were not good, than the keys were not good. Truth be told I found the car to be disappointing at best. The Panamara GTS I now have out shines the 911 in handling and road ability. I do miss some of the 911 tech features, but there was just to much drama with the car. $130,000 and you have to put a plastic garage door opener on the sun visor to close the garage door. Shame on you PORSCHE. Any one want to but my "Ultimate Driving Machine" 992 polo shirt Euro XXXL Worn once and dry cleaned.

DMN911

I have the same issues with the door handles, they work "most" of the time but never when you have you hands full which is most inconvenient. I also have issues with the PCM, I live in an area with bad Cell Coverage, this means that the PCM cannot connect when I start the car and always prompts for a new ID number.. I have basically stopped using it and just use Apple Car Play. Overall I am not impressed with the Technology but I do love driving the car.

RRR

Hello, I have a 2020CS4 (Chalk over Graphite Blue) and have the same exact technical issues. I Haven't brought the car into my dealership yet for service, so just been dealing with the Door handles/Thumb print/Front not working all the time. I truly love the Car its amazing. Curious to see what your dealer says about the issues. Thanks.

I tried opening the doors without my Cell phone on my person. Doors opened 10 times in a row. Not one issue. Grab me cell, put it in my pocket. Doors wouldn’t open. Only 3 out 10 times. Like WTF!

Any help would be appreciated. Tim

And the beat goes on: Porsche's 911 992.2 to include hybrid model

Published: 01 February 2024

CAR's vision of the 992.2 Porsche 911, illustrated by Lars Sältzer

► Porsche’s 60-year-old icon electrifies ► New hybrid model will be part of engine range ► 911 992.2 expected later in 2024

There’s a lot we don’t know about the 992.2-generation Porsche 911 that’s due to arrive in less than a year. But the thing we do know for sure is the most significant: that it will have a new engine line-up including, for the first time on a 911, a hybrid.

Key new arrival is a turbocharged mild-hybrid unit (T-HEV). It’s ‘self-charging’ – that is, the battery gets charged by the engine and brake regen, not by being plugged in. The e-motor is capable of generating an extra 80bhp or more, fed by a high-performance Varta battery thought to be 2kWh in capacity.

Inspired by the KERS technology used in F1, the software for the fast-charging 400-volt system was, we hear, co-developed by Porsche and Rimac. The T-HEV system fuses two electrical elements. According to a supplier, the integrated starter generator (ISG) creates an on-demand instant boost effect and drives the auxiliary equipment. The actual e-motor positioned under the fuel tank propels the front wheels and improves the weight distribution.

home link 992

The tiny battery which powers the compact electric drive unit is charged by the combustion engine and the brakes. For complexity reasons, a manual gearbox is not an option, sources say. The complete T-HEV module is claimed to weigh no more than 25kg.

The base engine is apparently a modified 3.0-litre 2TCI (twin-turbo) six rated at 390bhp and 346lb ft. Assuming the e-motor contributes about 85bhp and 130lb ft to the action, the combined output should be in the area of 475bhp and 477lb ft. Performance-wise, the 911 T-HEV would thus rank between the 911 GTS and the Turbo. It’s been reported that the top-of-the-line 800bhp-plus GT2 RS due in 2026 will also take the T-HEV approach.

Expect the 2024-25 GT3 and GT3 Touring to stick with a 4.0-litre flat-six, but with output increased from 503 to around 521bhp. But then, after a maximum of 1500 cars are built, the 2026 GT3 will switch to a more efficient mild-hybrid naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre engine with identical outputs.

Carrera S models are set to go up from 444bhp to 454bhp and from 391lb ft to 406lb ft. The GTS is expected to increase in capacity from 3.0 to 3.6 litres, gaining 10bhp as peak output increases to 483bhp. That 3.6-litre engine could also replace the 3.8 used in Turbo and Turbo S models.

992.2 - rear again

It’s not only the engines that change with the arrival of 992.2. While the sheet metal remains largely unaltered, almost all soft parts like bumpers, wheels, lights, mirrors and aero aids are new. The eye-catching redesigned lower front air intake is flanked by five adjustable vertical louvres which can channel more cooling air to the radiators and the brakes when required. The lower lip extends on certain versions to increase the downforce at high speed.

As always, there are various model-specific front and rear bumper variations to choose from. While the Turbo and Turbo S feature two pairs of tailpipes which differ in style, lesser models have centre or side-mounted single or dual exhausts with chromed or black tips. Rear wings will range from a small motorised deflector to the extra-tall wing of the RS. We also expect minor changes to the split rear air intakes. Last but not least, there are redesigned five-dot headlights on the way complemented by new-look tail lights and indicators. The Porsche lettering in the centre is lit at night.

Inside, there is a new fully electronic instrument panel which depicts five partly overlapping round instruments, with the no-longer-analogue rev-counter and the digital speedometer positioned right in front of the driver, showing where Porsche’s priorities remain focused.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

HomeLink - rolling codes?

The Brigand

  • Add to quote

Our rear gate and garage doors are electric and appear to have a rolling code system. I can easily copy the current code using the 'normal' HomeLink setup - but obviously it doesn't open the gate or door as it's expecting a new code every time. I've tried pressing the learn buttons on both the gate and garage openers and then transmitting using the menu bottons in both the D-Mode and the UR-mode but they never register. The regular openers I use are Novoferm 'Novotron 504' and a couple of cheap ones from China that work great. I believe it's all 433.92 MHz stuff. The HomeLink website lists the 720S and the Novotron 504 but their link to the programming info goes nowhere. Has anyone got this working on a rolling-code system?

JOEA2

I have a $29 Mini Remote that works great. Joe

I got a bunch of mini-remote keychains from Alibaba for like 10 dollars each and they have all worked great. I have one on my key but if the car has HomeLink, I'd like to get it working if I can.

Mine works with genie and lift master rolling codes

Did you program by just activating the remote in the cabin and waiting for it to confirm? Do you also have the D-Mode and UR-Mode options? Maybe they are a European thing, I can't find much info on what they actually are.

outie

The instruction is in the manual: https://cars.mclaren.com/content/dam/mclaren-automotive/ownership/Owners%20Handbooks/pdf/super-series---my19-720s-coupe-and-spider/APAC-English.pdf Continue to step 5.

I gave it another go in the garage - instead of every two seconds up to five presses, I just repeatedly pressed the button, sometimes fast and sometimes pressing on it for longer. Eventually, after maybe 30 presses, it worked. Tomorrow I'll open up the box by the gate and see if I can get it working using the same method.

Nice. It works but is a bit of a pain. Seems like a 2 person job to hit the learn button on the gate/garage opener. And then run to the car to press the home link buttons. If you reverse out of garage it’s also a pain to switch to the home link screen

Dave_sw1

I went through this, couldn't get my gate to accept it, ended up buying the homelink receiver which piggybacks on the gates Original unit ( you can run 2 no problem) was a 10 minute install, worked first time

I had all but given up myself...but hammering on the button like you're playing Streetfighter 2 in the arcade did the trick.

I have a rolling code systems in both my houses and it was super easy to setup for the 720s. Somehow it bypass the latter half with the learn button press. Mine's a 19 if that matters, And i do this like like easily 2-3 times a year with car changes. I know i didn't screw up.

rookie1

Setting it up took me a while, but after 20-30 random button presses on the remote control it would finally accept it and works fine since then.

It's not the age of the car, but the age of the gate/ garage system that's the issue. Mine was 20 yrs old and after a long time on the phone with homelink, figured out it's an obsolete standard frequency. They shipped me a receiver for £60 and 10 mins install it was done,

  9. New Porsche Owner needs help with Homelink

On the 992 the location setting works perfectly, when you save the profile with location the pcm displays all the profiles at that location when close. I have already reprogrammed it several times and each time it is the same: you have to press the programmed control button x times (in my case the first of the freely programmable buttons from the left in the row of buttons under the middle air vents).
