What is Construction Paper
First things first, let’s clear up any confusion.
If you are wondering what construction paper is, let me help you with that.
Construction paper is the most common craft paper, it usually comes in stacks of multi-colored or patterned sheets and can be used in various crafts. It is slightly stiff, can easily be cut, and glues easily.
All the projects in this papercraft collection can be made with simple construction paper, although it can often be substituted for printer paper, cardstock or origami paper.
And if you still have a few of those pretty patterned scrapbook paper pads in your stash, these will work too!
Other basic tools you’ll need are quality pair of scissors, craft glue or a hot glue gun and glue sticks, and maybe something like crayons of soft chalk.

How to Make Paper with Kids: A step-by-step tutorial
- Art Activities , Crafts , Elementary , Pre-School , Recycled , Toddler
40 Comments
Making paper with kids is a rewarding experience, and today I’m going to share how to make paper with kids. These steps work for anyone interested in learning how to make paper, and I give specific tips and advice on how to make paper with kids (even toddlers!)
Papermaking with kids is a fun and creative activity that can be done with common household items! Making paper teaches children how one of our most commonly used materials — PAPER — is made, and it’s also a fun sensory project for kids of all ages. You will need a blender, water, a few sheets of paper or paper scraps, a screen, and a large container.
TLDR > How do you make your own paper?
First, rip the paper into small pieces and put them in the blender. Add enough water to cover the paper, then blend until the paper is completely broken down into a pulp. Place the screen over the container. Pour the pulp into the container, and then use your hands to spread it out evenly. Press the pulp with a towel to absorb moisture. Finally, flip the paper over, remove the screen, and let the pulp dry on the towel.
Supplies: How to Make Paper

- Paper: newspaper, tissue paper, magazines, etc. Be sure that it’s staple and tape-free
- Window Screen. This sliding window screen is economical and reusable.
- Washcloth, towel, rag, paper towels, o a large piece of felt to absorb water
- Small seeds, plant fibers, flower petals, or food coloring (optional)
Getting started
Making paper with kids requires some patience and preparation, but it’s not tricky and the process is worth exploring with children or anyone who’s curious about how to make paper.
After my toddler created a sensory bin full of paper and water, I saw an opportunity to upcycle that mushy paper pulp to make our own paper. We had most of the materials handy, but had to make a trip to the hardware store to buy a small window screen (affiliate)
Mr. Rogers shows us how paper is made
To get into the spirit and expand our knowledge of paper making, we watched a Mr. Roger’s episode about paper making . You can watch it, too! If you like this video you’ll also love learning about how crayons are made.
What is the best material to make paper?
Almost anything goes. Just make sure it’s staple and tape-free. Also, no plastic! See if you can gather one or a few of the paper products from this list:
- old newspapers
- printer paper
- wrapping paper
- paper grocery bags
Other Materials for Papermaking
- flower petals
- food coloring
- small seeds
- plan fibers
- hemp or cotton pieces
Instructions: An Easy Way to Make Paper with Kids
- Tear the paper into tiny strips, about 2″.
- Place your window screen on top of one of the plastic tubs
- Fill the blender about three quarters with water. Add a couple handfuls of paper to the blender. Run the blender on a low speed. You don’t want to burn the motor, so be sure the paper is covered. Since you will squeeze all the water out of the paper pulp, you can’t really have too much water. If the blender doesn’t move easily, add more water.
- Run the blender a little bit faster until the mixture is a nice, smooth pulp. Ours is kind of chunky because my kids wanted it that way. Yours can be smoother.
- Pour the pulp thinly and uniformly across the screen. Place a towel on top to absorb the extra water, while also pushing the water through the screen into the tub. Get the kids involved.
- Place one hand firmly on top of the cloth while you flip the screen over onto a table or countertop that can handle water.
- Remove the screen and put the cloth with paper pulp in a spot where it can dry, undisturbed, for about a day. The thicker the paper, the longer it will take to dry.
Let’s start with the materials…
1. Mix paper with water to make a slurry. You can skip this step and just add dry paper to the blender, but it’s fun for kids to swoosh the wet paper around.
2. Place the screen over a pan or bin
3. Fill blender about three quarters full with water, or as much water as you like. You can’t overdo it. Add paper to the blender.
4. Blend the paper until it’s smooth. Ours is intentionally chunky because that’s how the kids wanted it. Who am I to say otherwise?
My toddler wanted to play with the pulp right away. She squeezed it, scooped it, and carried bowls full of pulp into the living room. Fun!
5. Spread the paper pulp over the screen
6. Press the pulp down and squeeze out the excess water. You can see the extra water falling into the bin below.
7. Place the towel over the paper pulp and flip it over. Allow the paper to dry. This could take a day or two depending on humidity and thickness of the paper.
8. Remove your paper and cut it into pieces, draw on it, or use it in art making.
Because our pulp was on the thick side, the paper doesn’t look like typical thin paper. As a result of this, your child may wonder if they really made paper! This is a great opportunity to discuss and question how paper manufacturers might get such thin paper.
What can you do with homemade paper?
You can do so many fun and creative things with homemade paper! You can create cards, scrapbooks, banners, origami, collages, and so much more!
We haven’t done much with it yet, but we’ll probably write on it with permanent markers or paint with watercolors.
You could also make Seed Paper: We decided to embed seeds in the pulp, so we could cut these up and give them away to friends with the invitation to plant them in their gardens!
Can you do this without a screen?
Yes, you can make paper without a screen! You just need is a blender, scrap paper, a piece of felt or a towel, and water. Start by blending the scrap paper until it turns into a pulp. Then, spread the pulp over the felt with a spoon and your hands. Once the paper is dry, you can add color, designs, or other decorations. Have fun!

Of course, Kristi. I love your ornaments. So pretty!
Thanks for the post!! Putti and me have tried making paper at a local wildlife festival last yr. Havent tried it at home. Thanks for inspiration and remainder!! Love all the added links, gives more ideas.
Don’t you love showing up at community events and having someone else take the kids through a great project? I bet you girls will enjoy this.
Lovely! I may try this and cut them into small hearts (or just draw some hearts on) to make “Mother Love Seeds”. Then have my son give them to his friend’s moms on Mother’s Day! Will keep this in mind for next Valentine’s Day – I think his preschool friends would like to plant their valentine.
Making paper is fun. After my wedding, I used some of the flowers in handmade paper. Thanks for sharing.
You always do such a great job of giving me confidence to do something that I have been too intimidated to try before. After your post, I believe we could make paper on our own. Now, I am regretting giving away our window screens when we moved into a house with installed screens. Â Thank you so much for sharing our idea! Â I am looking fwd to checking out the other ideas too. Â
Back in mid-March we made a dandelion paper. My son picked lots of yellow dandelions and we added them to the ingredients before blending. So the paper was really pretty light yellow color. Which gave me an idea to make paper each month using different flowers (or leaves or seeds), whatever is in season and easy to find in the yard or at the farmer’s market. We are yet to make paper this month, so your post is a reminder for me.Â
I used to make paper all the time! This brings me back. Great idea and fun for all ages. My one year old would love the texture and my four year old is into letter writing. How fun would it be to have to make her own stationary. Thanks for the inspiration and reminder on how to do it!
This is a great sensory activity! What an excellent idea. I think we will be trying this out very soon. We’ve never made our own paper before.
Oh, I’m sure you’ll love this, Didi. The pulp has a nice texture. Squishy and soft, and not sticky or icky. And then you have paper at the end of it!
We made paper before blogging days. The process is always awesome. Try adding glitter and flower petals next time.
We’ll do that! Now that I own the screen, I see a lot of paper making in our future. Thanks for the great ideas.Â
Hey! Great idea! I would try putting more water in the blender, which will make the material lie flatter on the screen after all of the water is pressed out of it. This will make thinner, more traditional paper!
Do you mind if I quote a couple of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your blog? My blog site is in the very same niche as yours and my users would definitely benefit from some of the information you provide here. Please let me know if this ok with you. Many thanks!
Howdy! Quick question that’s entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from my apple iphone. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share. Cheers!

This is so awesome I loved making paper when I was in elementary school they really only did it for earth day. I had figured out how to do it at home. Now sharing the same passion ( renewed )for creativity I once had with my children. Your post reminds me of fond memories I had long since forgotten. Thank you for your post I will be doing this soon.

50 Paper Craft Ideas You’ll Love: Easy & Fun!

Get inspired to create more with paper from this list of 50 paper craft ideas. Crafting on a budget has never been easier!
Probably like the majority of crafters, I started out by making easy paper crafts, especially when my kids were little. I would scour the internet and Pinterest and find fun crafts to keep my kids busy on a rainy day and also on those days when it was too hot to go outside!
Luckily times have changed and now there are tons of great ideas out there all from using paper plates to crepe paper. But sorting through all the fun paper crafts can be a bit time-consuming, so I decided to round up a list of cool paper crafts so you have them all in one place.
And the best part about these easy paper craft ideas is that they don’t cost a lot of money and for most of them kids of all ages will have so much fun making them.
There are so many different types of paper you can use for crafts including construction paper, card stock, copy paper, craft paper, tissue paper, crepe paper, glitter card stock or paper, kraft paper, butcher paper, scrapbook paper, and more!
So break out all that old scrapbook paper, a pair of scissors, some glue sticks, googly eyes, tape, and let the kids go crazy creating anything their little imaginations can come up with.
My youngest makes hundreds of little characters and toys out of just copy paper and tape (Santa even puts about 15 rolls of tape in his stocking since he uses all of mine up!). It really is amazing what you can make out of paper!
And not to mention that working with a piece of paper is a great way to increase their fine motor skills without them even knowing!
Be prepared to get excited to start making some amazing paper art projects! I do have a few Cricut project ideas in here, but if you want more inspiration make sure to check out my Cricut cardstock ideas here.

When it comes to crafting, originality in the materials we use can make all the difference. One item known for being versatile is paper —and the diverse options in color, texture, and size can allow for almost any type of project. Along with cutting and punching paper to a three-dimensional design, you can also use stamping, coloring, folding styles, dyeing, and other techniques to create beautiful results.
This gallery will guide you on your paper crafting journey with ideas ranging from paper stars to origami paper containers. These timeless projects encourage crafters young and old to think outside the box and pick up inexpensive, easy hobbies.
The crafts ahead are easy ways to spruce up ordinary décor and creating each one is a good way to mix up your crafting expertise.
You won't have to wait for sunny days to enjoy creating kites. This craft will be just as colorful as it will be fun to make. The washi tape and acrylic paint will add extra flair to the kite paper to make this project come alive.
Begin by tracing the template onto decorative paper and cutting it out. Cut dowel into one 19-inch piece and one 16-inch piece. Cross dowels; lash together by wrapping and tying twine around the point where they intersect. Place dowels on back side of one piece of paper (use the 19-inch dowel for the vertical, and the 16-inch one for the horizontal). Brush glue on smaller pieces of paper, and adhere them over the dowels to larger piece of paper at each of the four corners; let dry.
Cut another piece of twine to the desired length for hanging the kite. Poke a small hole through the paper where the dowels intersect; thread the twine through for hanging.
To create the tail, cut a long length of twine, and cut crepe paper into 4-by-1.5-inch strips. Twist crepe strips at the center, and tie in knots along tail about 8 inches apart. Tie the tail to the bottom tip of the dowel.
Brush glue along back edges of the paper; adhere the second piece of paper, patterned side up. Let dry.
Paper Medallion Decorations
Charming punched-paper medallions can be used to brighten a door, wall, or window. Or string a few together for a garland or mobile. The layered collage effect is a terrific way to highlight favorite special papers or use up scraps destined for the recycling bin.
Start with a punched circle as your base, embellishing as desired. You may decide to leave the base as is (see the large gold and small pink medallions) or back it with another piece of paper (see the medium medallion backed with fringed metallic gold paper).
Create the medallion center: Measure the area within your punched circle, then cut a circle of printed paper to fit within it; adhere the medallion center to the punched circle. If desired, cut out additional silhouettes from illustrated papers and collage them, overlapping the center circle of the medallion.
Create a hanging loop by attaching a length of metallic cord to the top of the medallion with a brass grommet. Create an anchor for the medallion base—beads, small crystals, or stones on cord add a little extra weight beneath a medallion to keep it from flapping in the breeze. Finish the anchor with a handmade tassel .
Paper Animal Masks
Let your imagination roar by creating paper animal masks. This easy-to-follow project starts things off with a paper template that kids will love. The best part of this craft? It produces little mess, allowing little ones to take part in a creative venture that will have less limits.
3D Hot Air Balloon Paper Decorations
Make this multidimensional décor your own with easy steps starting with a printable template and colorful cardstock. The other simple materials for this project solely include scissors, a glue stick, and your choice between gold glitter, baker's twine, or monofilament for the finishing touches. These decorations will take flight and allow your excitement to soar. The key element of layering pieces of cardstock paper with different color varieties will be sure to meet your satisfaction.
3D Hot Air Balloon Invitations
Give your invitations a creative twist with a hot air balloon design. Begin by printing out your own template, and cut out the balloon shape. Stack five sheets of colorful cardstock, and cut out the template using scissors. (Tip: Stack different colors or subtly different shades of a single color to add dimensionality to each balloon.)
Using a bone folder and ruler, score a straight line down the center of each balloon cut-out. Remove the ruler and reinforce the scored line, smoothing it down with the bone folder. Glue each folded balloon cut-out back to back, so each half connects to another half of a differently colored cut-out, along the fold line.
Cut a small square of paper (this will be the hot air balloon basket). Cut a short length of twine, tie into a knot, and loop behind the basket cut-out (this will be the line that connects the hot air balloon to the basket).
Glue both parts to the paper. Glue balloon cut-outs onto the paper backing of the invitation and unfurl. If desired, tie card invitation with matching satin ribbon if desired.
Paper Stars
With this creative endeavor, a shooting star won't ever seem too far from reach. All you need are scissors and decorative paper for an out-of-this-world creation. Add a fun element to this project by picking out colorful paper of your choosing. This could include anything from bright pinks to electric yellows to let your stars shine bright and catch your attention any time they cross your path.
Paper-Bag Flowers
Keep your crafting simple with these decorative paper-bag flowers. Just grab scissors, a hole punch, double-sided tape, string, and gusseted paper bags of any size to make this craft your own. Try out bright hues like yellow and orange for a special pop of color. The result will be high-flying creations that kids and adults alike will enjoy hanging up for parties or year-round décor.
Paper Origami Containers
Set your sights on a paper project sure to impress. These paper origami containers add a unique element to make your table settings pop. The project will also allow you to put your folding skills to the test. Unlike more intricate projects, this crafting experience can be rather easy. The instructions will walk you step by step to ensure you nail the origami containers so you can fill them with your favorite snacks.
Pretty Paper Flower Bouquet
Make a flower bouquet next on your crafting to-do list for a beautiful rendition to a typical arrangement. You can start off by making the ferns. Attach one wire to an adhesive back of fern and secure with hot glue. Cover the wire with floral tape and apply glitter. To make the sticker flowers, use pliers to twist the tip of the wire into a spiral and bend the spiral 90 degrees. Add hot glue to the flower sticker and the platform. To make the cupcake-wrapper flowers, repeat the spiral wire technique stated previously with one spiraled wire per flower. Use the screw punch to punch a hole in the center of three mini and two standard cupcake liners. You can add more liners for a more voluminous flower.
Insert the end of the wire through the three mini liners. Apply hot glue on the spiral (the top of the wire). Pinch, twist, and crinkle the bottom of the liners to start forming your flower shape. Add the two large liners under the minis. Apply hot glue at the base of the mini liners, and adhere one large liner. Pinch, twist, and crinkle into desired shape. Add more glue to the new base, and add another large liner. Continue until you have desired effect. Secure the pinched end with floral tape, and continue wrapping to the bottom of the wire. Combine all for a beautiful bouquet.

Paper Dogwood Flowers
Make these flowers part of your next craft challenge. Start by cutting card stock into 5-inch squares. Fold a square in half, then fold in half again. Open square, and crease diagonally, reversing direction of fold; repeat to make another diagonal crease. Fold square back up along original creases.
Trace the petal template onto the square; cut out along open edges. Snip off a tiny bit of pointed tip; unfold flower. With an unused pencil eraser and green ink, stamp small marks at indents on each petal. Use a starburst-style stamp to mark the center. Cut out leaves from green card stock. Secure flowers and leaves to branches with clear craft glue.
Glittered Wallpaper Birds
Add a glittery touch to your next paper craft with this creation. To begin, print the template for bird one, two, three, or four. Enlarge or reduce to the desired size. Adhere the template to the mat board with Xyron or spray adhesive. Cut out the bird shape with a craft knife.
Using a ballpoint glue pen, apply glue to the parts of the bird you'd like to glitter. Sprinkle glitter and shake off the excess. Edge the entire bird with gold-paint pen. Print the template for the base and the brace, enlarging or reducing to the same percentage as the bird if necessary. Trace the base and the brace that correspond to the bird from the template onto the mat board. (Note: For bird one, a brace is not necessary.) Glue bird onto base with craft glue. Glue brace onto back of bird.
Pretty Paper Forest
Make the most of this paper craft with eccentric colors for an enchanting forest. Use a craft punch to create paper circles in graduated sizes (the ones shown here have six-, seven-, eight-, and nine-inch diameters). Cut the circles in half, roll them into cones, and secure them with double-sided tape. Cut a skewer to accommodate them.
Gorgeous Paper Feather Gift-Box Topper
Top off the perfect gift with a unique paper design. Start by cutting a feather shape out of the paper and fold in half. Fringe each side of the feather with the precision scissors. Attach the feather to the gift box with string.
Try out a craft that can set sail. To create it, fold butcher paper in half width-wise, with the folded edge away from you. Mark the middle of the folded edge with a crease.
Fold in the two top corners of the folded edge to meet at middle, forming a triangle with a double-layer flap sticking out underneath. Fold the front layer of flap up to the front; fold back layer flap up to the back.
Take hold of center front and center back of the triangle and pull apart, pushing in opposite corners so they lie flat against each other, creating a diamond shape. Fold the front and back bottom corners of the diamond up front and back, respectively, to meet at the top corner. (You should now have an open-bottomed triangle.)
Pull the triangle open, flattening into a diamond. Pull the wings at the top apart gently, forming half of ship. (You may need to pop up the center and smooth the sides to form the boat.)
Snip the center of the ship, and slip in a dowel for mast (use a dab of clay to stick the dowel to the table). Cut out square scrapbook-paper sails; make slits in top and bottom, and slide them onto dowel.
Top the mast with a scrapbook-paper flag; secure it with double-stick tape. Tie on twine covered in triangular scrapbook-paper flags: Fold scrapbook paper, cut out triangles, and adhere to string with a small dot of glue.
3D Paper Raindrop Garland
Make this multidimensional craft to get you thinking outside of the box. Begin by printing out a template (one for each raindrop in the garland). Stack five sheets of blue card stock and cut out the template using scissors. Tip: Stack subtly different shades of blue to add dimensionality to each raindrop. Secure raindrop cut-outs with paper clips.
Using a pencil and ruler, draw a straight line down the center of stacked raindrop cut-outs (this will guide your machine stitch). Thread your sewing machine—blue will match the color of paper raindrops. Set your machine on a straight stitch with a long length. Line up a single raindrop bottom-end first under the needle, and machine-stitch along the drawn line, continuing to sew for spacing between raindrops. Repeat this step until you have a complete garland of raindrops.
Once you have reached desired length, snip with scissors and knot the end. Petal out the drop facets before hanging.
Paper Cut Luminaries
Add some ambiance lighting with these easy-to-create decorations. To make one, cut two small pillow box templates on a cutting mat using the pillow gift box tool. Using a paper punch, punch two designs out of each of the longer sides of the template. (Tip: Draw a centered rectangle as a guide before punching.) Gently fold the scored bottom and top tabs, and the long edges. Assemble the luminary by double-stick taping the tabs together to form a four-sided box. Place an LED tealight inside to display.
DIY Paper Pie-Slice Boxes
Take a creative approach to packaging your next convections. To start, follow the template instructions for cutting, and align the edges of the pie box to the left side of the Mini Scoring Board. Score. Align tabs and score as well.
Punch along the top and sides of the box with the edge punch. Form box, and adhere sides together with double-sided tape. To make the tag, punch the full shape from off-white paper. Then punch an outer ring from craft paper. Glue the two pieces together.

Easy Crafts For Kids
Keeping kids' crafts quick and easy is key. Many of my teacher friends have said that a child's attention span is typically around a minute per year of their age. If they are 8 years old, then their attention span is around 8 minutes.
This is why we tend to keep our easy crafts for kids to 30 minutes or less. Grab a stack of construction paper and get ready for a fun project. Create and have fun, but don't lose steam!
Some of our other easy crafts for kids that you will not want to miss in addition to our easy construction paper crafts are
- Easy Cardboard Crafts
- Easy Popsicle Sticks Crafts
- Rainbow Crafts For Kids
- Paper Bag Crafts
- Paper Plate Crafts
Construction Paper
What is easier and cheaper than pulling out a stack of colorful construction paper for the kids to craft with? Nothing!
But we know what you’re thinking, “yes, that is easy but it’s also kinda boring. My kids will claim they are done faster than I can grab the bonbons.” Not today, friends! We have a ton of construction paper crafts for kids to keep them engaged and HAPPY for hours —so you can enjoy those bonbons (or just a few minutes to yourself)!
Not only is crafting with construction paper easy and affordable, but it’s also super versatile. Most of these ideas can be adapted to any season or holiday.
Whether you’re looking for seasonal symbols like leaves, flowers, or snowflakes or holiday-themed designs like hearts ( Valentines Paper Crafts ) bunnies ( Easter Paper Craft ), reindeer (Christmas Paper Crafts), black cats (Halloween Paper ), or paper shamrocks (St. Patrick’s Day Paper Crafts), this is definitely a post you want to bookmark and visit again and again throughout the year.
Kids Crafts with Paper
Most of our easy construction paper crafts require just a few, simple supplies like a good pair of scissors, paper glue, markers, and colorful construction paper. The basic crafting supplies will suffice for our easiest construction paper projects. But it’s always great to keep other common crafting supplies on hand to expand into more creative craft ideas.
We’ve got a few here in our easy construction paper crafts that require some additional supplies. We try to keep some of these go-to supplies on hand for fun and easy crafts: paper plates, cereal boxes, pipe cleaners, and egg cartons. These everyday products provide endless crafting possibilities!
Crafting For Kids
Using paper to create crafts is a great way to help improve kids' fine motor skills and to boost their creative thinking. Many of these construction paper crafts require cutting various shapes, folding paper, or lining up layers of paper. Each of these skills is important for kids to practice improving handwriting in addition to practical skills like buttoning and zipping clothes.
The best part about our fun paper crafts is that you can’t mess them up. Or, even if your kids don’t exactly follow directions, they can work on their problem-solving skills to fix their mistakes!
Don’t be afraid to take our ideas and try something new! No matter how perfectly or imperfectly your creations turn out, they will always be special because they are homemade. At MWH we happen to know that happiness is homemade! So grab the construction paper and get ready to create!
Fun with Paper
For your competitive kids or those that like a little extra incentive, try holding a contest where kids have to add to our designs to make them bigger, better, or just different. Decide who has come up with the most creative or useful adaptation and give them a prize. You could also turn some of these crafts into a fun group project (this is great for willful kids who may not love cutting or glue or some other aspect required here).
Simple paper crafts are some of our favorites. They are so versatile, easy enough for the littles to participate but interesting enough for your bigger kids to stay interested as well. Like all our MWH crafts, we’ve got easy-to-follow instructions and pictures to help you at every step of the way. You can keep them super low-key with little supervision or you can turn them into more elaborate or educational projects.
Construction paper crafts are especially relevant when trying to teach kids about being environmentally conscious citizens. Because paper is wide and relatively easy to recycle, you can talk to them about the importance of the three Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle. When they find all different sizes and shapes of scrap paper, challenge them to think about how they might reuse them or how they could cut shapes to reduce the number of scraps.

31 Paper Crafts for Adults You’re Going to Adore
Home » DIY » 31 Paper Crafts for Adults You’re Going to Adore
Got a bunch of paper lying around? It’s a perfect time to make these paper crafts for adults and to take your creativity to a whole new level.
Paper crafts are for everyone, regardless of their age. Paper is a super versatile crafting medium, and with the right skills, tools, and knowledge, you can make anything out of it!
That said, many writers aim their papercraft lists at children. After all, crafts like this help with their development. However, I think it’s time that adults got their chance in the limelight.
So, to the adult crafters with a stack of paper sitting in their supply cupboards, here’s a list just for you.
1. Easy Tissue Paper Flowers
Credit: thecountrychiccottage.net
Let’s start with an homage to tissue paper, one of my favorite things to craft with! This light, delicate form is perfect for creating fake florals, thanks to its sheer coloration and folding ability.
These tissue paper flowers will never wither or wilt, so they’re perfect if you’re getting tired of replacing your bouquets every month! Grab a pack of tissue paper here and let these flowers spring forth.
Don’t worry if you’re left with a lot of tissue paper in your stash. These stash-busting tissue paper DIYs are the perfect way to use it all up.
2. DIY Paper Birdhouses for Spring
Credit: heartfilledspaces.com
Next on our list is a simple way to bring more birds to your garden. Who doesn’t love waking up to the sound of birds chirping outside your window? This birdhouse will help you to get there!
If I hadn’t read this tutorial, I wouldn’t have guessed that you can make birdhouses from paper! A pack of patterned card stock like this is what you’ll need, as cardstock is strong enough to hold the house’s shape.
3. Paper Chain Rainbow Wall Hanging
Credit: whitehousecrafts.net
If you’re a fan of macrame crafts but you lack the required cording, this paper chain wall hanging is your next best option. Using a clever paper chain technique, you can create a rainbow from paper links!
Hang this gorgeous piece above your desk to keep your creative juices flowing! A hollow dowel like this and some yarn will easily support the piece’s weight, as paper certainly won’t weigh it down very much.
4. DIY Crepe Paper Garland
Credit: abeautifulmess.com
Crepe paper is slightly different from standard tissue paper, sporting a rippled texture that lends itself perfectly to creating fake flowers. This gorgeous garland will look amazing perched on your mantel.
A vital ingredient of this DIY project is the floral wire (find it here ). This is a green wire often used in flower arranging, but for our purposes, it will be holding all the crepe paper in that distinct garland shape.
5. Gorgeous Paper Daisies

Here’s another method for making fake flowers, except you don’t make these daisies from tissue or crepe paper. Instead, any old printer paper will do for these bright and happy florals.
Use them as box decorations, arrange in a vase, or even place them on stems to give your friends gifts. After all, a sign of appreciation, friendship, and love is always welcomed.
6. Stunning Map Star Decorations
Credit: pillarboxblue.com
Are you somewhat of a travel fiend? With the advent of digital maps, paper maps have unfortunately become a lot less popular than they used to be. Don’t worry, though; you can still put them to good use!
These paper map stars are such a unique decoration, plus they’re perfect for using up any old map books you have lying around. To make these, you’ll need solid and quick-drying paper glue like this.
7. Farmhouse Sign with Cricut Flowers
Credit: everydayjenny.com
If you’re in love with paper crafts and don’t already own a Cricut machine ( here ), it might be time to invest in one. These highly versatile machines are perfect for making everything from labels to signage.
When it comes to this farmhouse sign, the ‘fresh-cut flowers’ are cut from cardstock in various neutral shades, then mounted on the sign. Of course, if you don’t want to buy a Cricut, you can also do this by hand.
8. Rainbow Paper Dahlia Flowers
Credit: craftaholicsanonymous.net
In flower language, dahlias symbolize inner strength, creativity, dignity, and positive change. Who wouldn’t want those positive vibes hanging around their workspace?
Create these paper dahlias with some colored cardstock and a simple folding technique. If you’d like to, this is also a great craft to do with the kids. Decorate your living space with these vibrant beauties.
9. Eucalyptus and Hydrangea Wreath
Credit: ogcrafts.com
On the other hand, this eucalyptus and hydrangea wreath is the perfect decoration with which to grace your front door. The craft uses a basic foam wreath form like this to provide a base, which is then covered.
Hydrangeas symbolize grace and beauty, while eucalyptus flowers are known for hardiness, strength, and protection. Welcome your guests with this message every time they walk into the house.
10. DIY Paper Envelope
Credit: craftsyhacks.com
You’ll never need to buy a store envelop ever again once you get this paper envelope technique down. Create these gorgeous envelopes out of any paper you have handy!
Not only will that inspire some seriously creative gift-giving choices, but it will also encourage you to be more sustainable around Christmastime and birthdays.
11. Gorgeous Paper Village
Eschew the typical nativity scene in favor of this gorgeous handmade village, perfect for the winter season. Surrounded by a dense paper forest, these houses are the definition of cute!
Even for newbies to the papercraft arts, these houses are a cinch to make thanks to their simple construction. Make sure you have a high-temperature hot glue gun on hand ( here ) for solid joins.
You can also have your kids make a few animals join the scene, such as any of these adorable, kid-friendly dog crafts .
12. DIY Paper Plants
Credit: thehousethatlarsbuilt.com
While the idea of filling your home with plants is lovely to some, the maintenance required is often too much to justify doing it! That’s where this array of gorgeous paper plants comes in.
Create a forest of plants that will never need water using this clever technique. There are no rules for color, shape, or size, so go wild! Here’s a set of plant pots to get you started.
13. Simple but Stunning Map Roses
Here’s another way to use up those old maps you might have lying around. Instead of hanging them from your ceiling, you can arrange these paper roses in a vase to act as the perfect travel-themed centerpiece.
This clever crafter has used some red watercolor paint to stain the map’s edges, creating a gorgeous rosy effect. While I love the look, I wonder what it would look like with this golden stain instead?
14. Make Some Recycled Paper
Credit: veraviglie.com
Our next project has a little bit of a twist… instead of making things with paper, you’ll be making the paper itself! Recycling paper is a fantastic way to craft sustainably instead of contributing to the ever-growing waste.
Don’t worry; not only is this paper super easy to make, but it also looks gorgeous when used in craft projects. You’ll need both a wooden paper press and a wooden sieve ( here ) to attain this skill (which I recommend).
15. A Jar of Folded Origami Stars
Credit: welcometonanas.com
In Japan, a common gift is a huge jar filled with a thousand miniature paper cranes to imbue the recipient with good fortune. Well, a jar of one hundred paper stars grants the recipient a single wish.
Learning the star fold is super easy, and once you have it down, you’ll be churning these out at lightspeed. For an extra touch of love, write a small, positive message inside each strip of paper.
16. Origami Planter Covers
Credit: marthastewart.com
Standard terracotta pots are cute to look at, but even they can eventually get boring. Elevate your planters with this simple paper cover, made with cardstock and a scoring board set ( here ).
If you scale these covers up, they can cover anything you like! Cover circular vases and fruit bowls, or create a custom centerpiece all your own.
If you’re after some other ways to up your planter game, check out some of these genius dollar store planter ideas .
17. DIY Paper Palm Leaf
Credit: ohohdeco.com
Next on the list is an homage to minimalist style, with the barest touch of bohemian chic thrown in there. These paper palm leaves are gorgeous when arranged in a glass vase; they look straight out of a magazine!
You’ll need some brown paper for the fronds and craft dowels for the stems, although you can also use bamboo ( here ) for a more textured look.
18. Crepe Paper Bunny Tails
Credit: liagriffith.com
The resurgence of the crepe paper is here, and no, we’re not making actual bunny tails! ‘Bunny tails’ is the name of a fluffy flower that looks like it belongs on a bunny’s behind, and they’re very chic.
This project is another good reason to own a Cricut, as it will drastically shorten the amount of time it takes for you to cut crepe paper into delicate fringe. Mount them on white wire ( here ) and style anywhere!
19. Gradient Paper Leaf Mobile
Credit: cleverpoppy.nz
If you’re expecting a little one very soon, this gradient paper mobile will make an adorable addition to the little one’s nursery. Not to mention, it’s much cheaper than buying one from a store, so you’ll save some cash!
Sit down with your partner and start cutting because you’re going to need many individual leaves. String them onto some white yarn to form the garlands, then finally mount on your golden hoop like this to finish it off.
20. DIY Woven Paper Plate Bowl
Who knew a paper plate could turn out looking this good? This is the perfect project to make if you’re running out of space to store your craft supplies (which is why I came up with it in the first place!).
Using just a paper plate, some yarn, and some tape, you’ll have a brand-new bowl ready to hold your belongings in under half an hour. That’s how simple this is to make.
21. Pastel Rainbow Wall Hanging
Credit: prettylifegirls.com
Now, this is almost the same as the rainbow wall hanging from earlier in this list but hear me out!
This hanging creates the entire rainbow from paper links instead of just half, and it’s in pastel colors!
22. Simple Yet Elegant Paper Fans
Anyone with enough style and panache to hang paper fans in their home has my immediate admiration, which is why I included these on my list. You don’t have to drop hundreds at Anthropologie to appreciate style.
Standard cardstock will be your material of choice, so choose your patterns carefully! Two things take these fans to another level: the doily edges ( here ) and the golden straws ( here ).
Don’t hold back with these stunning decorations! These would look wonderful arrange in this yarn-wrapped vase , lending them a somewhat shabby chic look.
23. Simple DIY Gift Box
Next up, here’s an accompaniment to that stunning paper envelope from earlier in the list. A simple DIY gift box takes almost no time at all, but it makes your gift seem so much more special.
If you don’t already own a bone folder, I highly recommend getting one for this craft. It’s crucial for achieving those clean lines and sharp angles, which make this box look like a professional job.
24. Stunning Hanging Wisteria
Credit: abbikirstencollections.com
Continuing with our flower language analysis, wisteria symbolizes long life and immortality thanks to its long life span. Unfortunately, despite that rigid constitution, these flowers don’t do well indoors.
That’s where this papercraft comes in. Instead of attempting to grow these flowers indoors, ring your kitchen, living area, or bedroom with an array of paper wisteria in different colors and sizes.
25. Origami Folded Pen Holder
Credit: Blogspot
Origami can be marvelous because the right origami project also provides a valuable function. This origami folded pen holder fits the bill, providing a spot for even the smallest paperclip.
Choose any patterned paper to make your pen holder as unique as the rest of your décor. However, make sure you’ve chosen square origami sheets ( here ); the pattern relies on them.
26. A Gorgeous Fall Garland
Credit: sinnenrausch.at
To celebrate the coming of Fall, you can’t do much better than this charming Fall garland. To make this project sing, I recommend choosing a color palette and sticking with it for a professional look.
27. Create Your Seed Paper
Credit: americanlifestylemag.com
Seed paper is pretty much what it sounds like: it’s paper used to sprout seeds! Creating this is a beautiful way to give back to the earth, both because you’re recycling old paper and because you’re birthing anew.
28. Paper Punch Backdrop
Credit: ruffledblog.com
Wedding and party DIYs are usually undertaken on a grand scale, but this stunning paper punch backdrop is just minimal enough to provide the perfect background. Plus, you can customize the color!
I highly recommend investing in a circle puncher like this if you’ll be tackling this project. If you don’t, you’ll be stuck cutting out hundreds of tiny circles for hours.
Another cute idea for a wedding or party is to create a photo display wall as your backdrop. Use any of these nifty dollar store frame ideas to get it done!
29. DIY Paper Succulents
Credit: domesticheights.com
Here’s another instance in which owning a Cricut will seriously come in handy. The shape, size, and color of these succulents are so perfect. They almost look like they’re growing!
I recommend choosing a natural texture for your planter pot, as this will create a gorgeous contrast. Something like these wooden planters is ideal.
30. Summer Fruity Paper Medallions
Credit: damasklove.com
Our penultimate papercraft celebrates the coming of summer with a tribute to fruit’s gorgeous colors and shapes! Not only are these utterly possible with paper, but they might even look better than the fruit!
31. A Simple Paper Wreath
Credit: we-are-scout.com
Let’s finish off the list with something that can be made for any time, any place, and any occasion. Make These sweet and simple paper wreaths from wrapping paper and theme them according to the season.
Grab some bunny wrapping paper for Easter, red and green for Christmas, or choose blue, gold, and white to celebrate a happy Hannukah. The options are endless.
There are many other unique wreath ideas out there , so give some of them a look for your next holiday party.

To build a support strut: Cut a 6.25 cm (2.5 inch) wide strip of paper. Draw four parallel lines that divide it into five 1.25 cm (0.5 inch) wide strips. Cut inward 2.5 cm along these lines from one edge. Fold along the lines to form a square shape (so two of the segments overlap), and use tape to hold in place.
