How to change chrome's default language.

Do you want Google Chrome to display the UI (settings and menus) in a different language? Here's how to change the default language on Windows and Chrome OS.

Google Chrome for Windows and Chrome OS lets you change its user interface language from over 100 available languages. So, if you want Chrome's settings and menus to appear in another language, here's how to change the default language.

macOS , Linux , iPhone , iPad , and Android users have to change the system's default language in order for the language in Chrome to follow suit.

We use Google Chrome on Windows for this guide. Changing Chrome's default language on Chrome OS, however, is virtually identical.

The first thing you want to do is fire up Chrome, click the menu icon, and then click on "Settings." Alternatively, you can type

into your address bar to go directly there.

Click the menu button, then click Settings

Once in the Settings menu, scroll down to the bottom, and click on "Advanced."

Under Settings, click advanced, located at the bottom of the page

Scroll down a little bit more until you see the Languages heading. Click on "Language" to expand the setting.

Click on your browser's language to show more language settings

Once the setting expands, click on the three dots next to your preferred language, and then tick the checkbox next to "Display Google Chrome in This Language."

Click the menu icon, and then check the box next to "Display Google Chrome in this language."

If you want Chrome to translate a page on the internet into a specific language, click the menu icon, and then tick "Offer to Translate Pages in This Language."

If you want pages translated into this language as well, from the menu, check the box next to "Offer to translate pages in this language."

Anytime you visit a page, Chrome will prompt you with a message asking if you want it to translate the page into the language you chose.

If the language you want Chrome to display in isn't listed, click "Add Languages."

Don't see your language? Click "Add language."

In the window that appears, you can either search for a language or scroll through the list and tick the checkbox next to it. After you check all the languages you want to use, click "Add" to close the window.

Find your preferred language with the search box or by scrolling through the list, check the box next to it, and then click "Add."

After you select the language you want Chrome UI to display in, you have to relaunch the browser for these changes to take effect. Click "Relaunch."

After you select the language as default, relaunch Chrome when you click "Relaunch."

After Chrome relaunches, the browser will open in your preferred language. If you want to change Chrome to another language---or back to the previous one---head into the language settings and choose a different one.

Is your Google Chrome web browser in the wrong language? If you're using a Windows PC or the Android mobile app, it's easy to change Chrome's default language so menu items, pop-up messages, and other text always appears in a language you can read. If you're using a Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Linux, Chrome automatically uses your system's default language, so you won't be able to choose an alternative. This wikiHow article teaches you how to set the default language used in the Google Chrome web browser on both your computer and phone or tablet.

Things You Should Know

  • If you're using a Windows computer or an Android phone or tablet, you can change the default language in your Chrome Settings.
  • If you're using a Mac, Linux, or an iPhone/iPad, you can't change the Chrome default language. Chrome only displays in your system language.
  • If a page displays in a language that isn't default for you, Google Chrome will offer to translate it.

Step 1 Open Chrome on your Android.

  • If you're using an iPhone or iPad, you won't be able to change the default language in Chrome. Chrome can only display in the language you're using as your iPhone or iPad's primary language .

Step 2 Tap ⋮.

  • It's only possible to change Chrome's default display language on a Windows PC. If you're using a Mac or Linux, Chrome can only display menus and other information in your system's default language . However, if you go to a website that's not in your system's default language, you'll always have the option to translate the page .

Step 2 Click ⋮.

  • You'll now see a list of installed languages in the right panel. Your current default language displays the text "This language is used to display the Google Chrome UI."

Step 5 Click Add languages.

  • If you want to use a language that you already see in the list as your default language, just click the three dots next to the language's name and choose Display Google Chrome in this Language .

Step 6 Select a language.

  • You may have to scroll down to find the language that you want to use.
  • Languages are arranged alphabetically.

Step 7 Click Add.

  • Changing the default language will not change your spell-check settings. To change spell-check settings, use the switches next to each language under "Spell Check" to enable or disable spell check for individual languages.
  • Some languages, such as "English", cannot be set as the default language; instead, you'll have to select the "English (United States)" dialect (or another dialect). [1] X Research source
  • After you set the language, click Relaunch to restart Chrome in the correct language. Once Chrome re-opens, your selected language will be used for things like Chrome's Settings menu and other built-in menu options.

The Easiest Way to Change Chrome's Default Languages

Add more languages to Google Chrome

how to change language in google chrome on windows 10

Many websites are offered in more than one language. While the default setting in Google Chrome is USA English, you change Chrome's language to almost anything you'd like.

Instructions in this article apply to the desktop version of Chrome for all operating systems and the Chrome mobile app for iOS and Android .

How to Change Chrome's Languages

In Google Chrome, you're given the ability to specify languages in order of preference. Before a web page is rendered, Chrome will check to see if it supports your preferred languages in the order listed. If the page is available in one of these languages, it will be displayed in your preferred script.

To change your language preferences in Chrome:

Before you begin, you may want to update Google Chrome to make sure you're using the most recent version of the browser .

Select the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome and choose  Settings  from the drop-down menu.

You can also get to Chrome's settings by entering chrome://settings/ in the URL bar.

Select the three lines next to Settings and choose  Advanced .

Find the Languages section, and then select  Language  to pull down a new menu.

You should see at least one language or possibly more listed in preference order. One will be chosen as the default language with a message that says This Language is used to display the Google Chrome UI . You may also see another option with a message that says This language is used to translate webpages .

To choose another language, select  Add languages .

Search or scroll through the list and check the boxes beside the languages you want, then select  Add .

With the new languages now at the bottom of the list, select the three dots next to a language to adjust its position on the list.

You also have the option to delete the language, display Google Chrome in that language, or have Chrome automatically offer to translate pages to that language.

Exit the Chrome settings. Language preferences are saved automatically as you make changes to them.

When you visit a page written in a language that's not on your list, Chrome will offer to translate it. If you want to print in another language from Chrome, you must first translate the page.

How to Change Languages in the Chrome App

The mobile Chrome app can translate pages too, but it doesn't offer as much control over the language selection as you have with the desktop program. To change the default language and translate text to a different language in the Chrome app:

Open the Chrome app and tap More .

Tap Settings .

Tap Language & Region .

Tap Search language .

Tap the language you want to use.

If you visit a website with text in a different language, the Chrome app will present language options at the bottom of the page. Select your language to have Google Chrome translate the page.

You can also modify the default language in Yahoo and change the default language in Firefox .

How to change your language in Google Chrome on desktop

Arif Bacchus

Google Chrome supports a wide range of languages. While it'll default to English in most cases, there's nothing stopping you from changing its settings and displaying pages in Spanish, French, or dozens of other languages.

Add a new language

Display the new language on windows or mac, a note about web content.

Changing your default language in Chrome takes only a few seconds, and the technique used is the same across Windows and Mac. Aside from changing your language, note that Chrome now gives you the option to automatically translate pages written in another language – making it easy to read content from around the globe.

What You Need

  • Google Chrome

Here is what you need to know about changing your language settings and preferences in Chrome.

Changing the language used in Chrome only takes a few steps, but keep in mind that it only applies to the Chrome interface. For instance, if you change the default language to French, all text within the Chrome interface, such as menus and settings, appear in French. The change does not apply to web content.

The following instructions will work for Chrome on both Windows and Mac. Keep in mind there might be slight variations to these instructions depending on whether or not you're running the latest version of Chrome.

Step 1: With Chrome open, click the three-dot icon located in the top-right corner.

Step 2: Click Settings listed on the drop-down menu.

  • The 5 best websites like Craigslist in 2024

  • The best websites to download audiobooks for free in 2024

Step 3: Click Languages listed on the newly expanded menu on the left. If this isn't readily available, your version on Chrome might require you to first click Advanced .

Step 4: On the right, click the down arrow icon next to Language to expand the list.

Step 5: Click the blue Add Languages link.

Step 6: A pop-up window appears. Click the box next to the language you want to add, followed by the blue Add button.

Step 7: The new language now appears on the Languages list. Click the three-dot icon to the right of each language to reorder or remove as needed.

Step 8: Once you’re done, close the Settings tab. All changes save and update automatically.

After adding the new language, now it’s time to set it as the default.

Step 1: As instructed in the first section, navigate through Settings to the Languages menu and click the down arrow icon to expand the Language menu.

Step 2: Click the three-dot button to the right of your new language.

Step 3: In the pop-up menu, click the box next to Display Google Chrome in This Language to set the new language as your default.

Step 4: Click the Relaunch button now displayed next to the new default language.

If you switched Chrome’s interface language from English to French, all internet content stays in its original language. For instance, you’ll view Digital Trends in English because it’s still classified as a language you use. If you navigate to a website in Spanish, Google Translate will suggest English as the language.

If an all-French adventure is appealing to you, you can obtain this by eliminating English from your Languages settings. When you remove it, you’re telling Google Chrome that English is not a language you usually read.

Removing a language can be done by going back to the Languages menu, clicking the three-dots to the right of the language you want to remove, then selecing Remove .

Also, note that if you navigate to a website that is written in a language that's not your default Chrome language, the software will give you the option to have the page automatically translated. For example, if you have English set as your default language and go to a website in Spanish, you'll see a small pop-up box at the top right of the screen that says Translate . Click that button, and the page will reload with English text.

Troubleshooting language changes in Google

With so many ways to change your Google language across devices, services, and products, you're bound to run into issues. Here's a few common ones and how to fix them.

If your language update didn't work: Sometimes it will appear that a language update hasn't occurred. You can try restarting your Chrome browser, your Google app, or logging back into your account to see if that updates the changes. If not, try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then set the language again.

If your language isn't listed: While Google has a number of languages available for users, it doesn't encompass everything that exists. If the primary language you want isn't available, Google will prompt you to choose an alternate language. You can add a secondary language using just about every language update method, and it will be visible beneath your primary language.

How to Change Language Settings in Google Chrome

Update with device manager, update drivers manually, update drivers automatically, here is how to use auslogics driver updater:.

Google Chrome is the best overall browser on the market, whether for computer or mobile browsing. It has also cornered the lion’s share of the market, and it is easy to see why. Its combination of size, speed and awesome features render it unbeatable by the competition. Not that Google is about to rest on its laurels: new features and improvements are constantly being made to keep Chrome ahead of the curve.

As the browser expanded to become the number one choice for global users, the range of languages it supports has also increased significantly. Originally shipping with just a few Western and Eastern languages in 2008, Chrome now supports over 100 languages — and you can change your browser’s default language to any one of those.

To be clear, we are talking about the language of the Chrome user interface here. That is, the language of menus, settings, tabs and other UX elements. The language in which web pages are rendered is another matter: Chrome can translate most of these — but not to every language, and not always with a high degree of accuracy.

Though display language can be modified in Chrome for all platforms, we’re focusing on Chrome for Windows here. Unlike on mobile, Apple and Linux platforms where the Chrome UX language changes according to the system language, the language in the Windows version of Chrome can be changed independently. This means your computer can be set to English while your Chrome browser can render UX elements in French or Mandarin.

So, if you’re looking for ways to change my Google Chrome language to English or another language, you don’t need to go rummaging around in the Control Panel or Windows Settings app. You can kick things off right from within Chrome. Read on to find out how.

First of all, we must access the Chrome Settings menu. Open Chrome and click the three vertical dots —  also known as the Hamburger — menu icon. Doing this will display the Chrome menu with a list of options arranged vertically.

Next, click on the Settings option to reveal a page of core Chrome settings that significantly adjust Chrome behaviour in some way. You can jump to settings by typing “chrome://settings in the address bar instead.

What we are looking for isn’t immediately apparent in the Settings menu. You will have to scroll down a bit until you find the minimized vertical dropdown arrow labeled “Advanced”, which is at the very bottom of the page. Click on that to reveal even more extensive settings — we did tell you Chrome has a lot of features, did we not?

From here, there’s a bit more scrolling to be done. Keep your eyes on the page as you move down. Stop when you find the Languages section. Under this section, you’ll see a “Language” setting and a “Spell check” setting. The former is what we’re interested in here.

The Language setting tells you which language the Chrome UX is currently set to. If you need to be told that information in, well, green and white, there is a “Google Chrome is displayed in this language” notification in smaller font under the language. Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the language to expand the setting.

You will see a list of extra preset languages. Sometimes, what you see is another variant of the language you’re currently using. For example, English (United States), English (United Kingdom), or English (Australia). If the language or variant you want to change to is listed, click the three vertical dots to the left of its tab and tick the “Display Google Chrome in this language” checkbox. There is also an option to “Offer to translate pages to this language”. If you also tick its checkbox, Chrome will ask you whether you wish to translate a web page you’re viewing to the selected language.

That should be that, you say? Well, not quite. Often, the language you wish to use isn’t listed when you expand the “Language” setting. In that case, there is an “Add languages” link at the bottom of the expanded languages list. Clicking that opens a pop-up box which displays a list of all languages supported in Chrome.

Scroll down to find the language you want and tick the checkbox to its left. You can select more than one language and they’ll all be added to the Languages section of Chrome so you can easily select them in the future. The languages in the pop-up window are arranged alphabetically, so you have a lot of scrolling down to do if your desired language begins with a later letter of the alphabet. You can use the search bar at the top to quickly find the language you want.

Once you’re satisfied with your selection of languages, click the blue Add button at the bottom left of the Window to close the window and add those languages to the Language list.

Now click the three vertical dots next to the added language and tick the “Display Google Chrome in this language” checkbox. Don’t forget to also tick the second checkbox if you wish Chrome to prompt you asking if you want to translate a web page into this language.

A Relaunch button will appear next to the new language you have selected. Once your work in the Languages section of Chrome is done, click this button and the browser will restart so the changes can take effect.

  • Open Chrome and click the menu icon.
  • Click Settings.
  • Scroll down and click Advanced.
  • In the Languages section, expand the languages list or click “Add languages”, select the desired ones and click the Add button.
  • Click the three vertical dots next to your desired language and tick the “Display Google Chrome in this language” checkbox.
  • Click the Relaunch button to load Chrome in your selected language.

Congratulations, you’ve changed your default Chrome language. You can now navigate Chrome settings, menu, and view browsing options in your favourite language.

However, even with the superb features packed in Chrome and its ease of use, nonetheless, many users find it somewhat slow and buggy sometimes, especially in Windows 10. This is more pronounced on older systems that use dated hardware. But even on newer models, Chrome is a moderately demanding application that puts some strain on the computer’s graphics display.

Using Auslogics BoostSpeed to eliminate performance errors and speed-reducing issues will indubitably make Chrome faster and smoother. For best results, you can update your drivers as well so your computer’s video card can be better optimized with the latest versions of Chrome on Windows 10.

You can update your drivers in three ways: through Device Manager, manually, or automatically. Each one has its merits and demerits, but they’re all means to the same end — getting your hardware-control software up to date so you can use it without facing issues.

To use this method, you should first of all find all the hardware drivers that are in need of updating or reinstalling:

  • Open Device Manager. Use Windows key + X to access the Windows Tools menu and click Device Manager from the list.
  • Click the Action tab in the Device Manager window and click the Scan for Hardware changes option.
  • Missing or problematic drivers will be displayed with yellow triangle or exclamation marks. Sometimes, the driver marked in yellow will also be greyed out.
  • Right-click one of the marked drivers and click Update Driver Software.
  • In the next window, select the ‘Search automatically for updated driver software’ option.
  • Wait for Windows to finish searching for, downloading and installing the required software.
  • At this point, you will be asked to restart your computer. You may decline right now.
  • In the main Device Manager window, click on another problematic driver and perform the steps described above again. Do this for all the drivers highlighted in yellow.
  • When you’ve finished updating all of them, restart your computer.

In a few cases, Windows might return a message that a specific device is up to date or it cannot find the updated version of a device driver. You might want to visit the manufacturer’s website to manually download the latest driver, then. Once you’ve unzipped the driver and placed it somewhere convenient, return to Device Manager, right-click the driver as usual and select Update Driver Software. In the next window, click the Browse my computer for driver software option, use the Browse button to navigate to where you placed the downloaded driver to select and install it.

Most of the time, you don’t need to go to these lengths. Just expand the “Sound, video and game controllers” node, right-click your graphics card, and select “Update Device Software”. Then follow the process as described above.

As long as you know what you are looking for, you can proceed to the manufacturer’s website to download the latest hardware drivers for the devices on your computer. You will need to ensure that the name and model of your hardware corresponds to the driver you have downloaded. Moreover, you must make sure that the driver you downloaded is the right one for your operating system.

It is a lot of work if you’re updating multiple device drivers developed by different manufacturers. This is compounded by the fact that some of these OEMs are hard to track down online and the drivers you are looking for might be tucked away in some obscure corner of their website. Even so, as long as you have the will and put in the effort, you will most likely get what you need in the end.

Once you’ve downloaded everything on your computer, click a driver file and let the installer guide you through the installation. You might have to extract the driver file from an archive first before you can proceed with the installation. Repeat the process for each downloaded driver file.

If you don’t have the time to labour over finding whichever driver is responsible for the error you’re getting, you can just update all your drivers in one fell swoop. This not only brings your hardware drivers up to date but also eliminates the problematic driver by replacing it with a new/uncorrupted version. As a matter of fact, the most effective way to get rid of driver-related errors is by updating all your drivers. You can automatically bring your drivers up to date with Auslogics Driver Updater.

Auslogics Driver Updater is a safe, fast and intuitive tool that updates all drivers on your PC in one click to prevent device conflicts and ensure smooth hardware operation. It will give you a report on outdated or missing drivers it detects, and let you quickly update them to the latest manufacturer-recommended versions.

  • Download and install the software.
  • Launch Auslogics Driver Updater and connect your PC to the internet.
  • Click the green “Start Search” button and Driver Updater will search your system for faulty, missing and outdated drivers.
  • A list of drivers that require updates will be shown by category. Click “Expand list” to view them all.

If you like what you’ve seen, you can upgrade to the full version . It will scan your devices and update them all with a single click to ensure smoother performance.

It is always recommended to bring all the drivers on your machine to the latest version. You might think a certain hardware driver might be the culprit and want to update just that one, but updating everything insures you against regret if you’re mistaken. Moreover, it also replaces other problematic drivers that would eventually bring more annoyances later.

In the biggest mass-market AI launch yet, Google is rolling out Gemini , its family of large language models, across almost all its products, from Android to the iOS Google app to Gmail to Docs and more. You can also now get your hands on Gemini Ultra, the most powerful version of the model, for the first time.

With this launch, Google is sunsetting Bard , the company's answer to ChatGPT. Bard, which has been powered by a version of Gemini since December, will now be known as Gemini too.

ChatGPT , released by Microsoft-backed OpenAI just 14 months ago, changed people’s expectations of what computers could do. Google, which has been racing to catch up ever since, unveiled its Gemini family of models in December. They are multimodal large language models that can interact with you via voice, image, and text. Google claimed that its own benchmarking showed that Gemini could outperform OpenAI's multimodal model, GPT-4, on a range of standard tests. But the margins were slim.

By baking Gemini into its ubiquitous products, Google is hoping to make up lost ground. “Every launch is big, but this one is the biggest yet,” Sissie Hsiao, Google vice president and general manager of Google Assistant and Bard (now Gemini), said in a press conference yesterday. “We think this is one of the most profound ways that we’re going to advance our company’s mission.”

But some will have to wait longer than others to play with Google’s new toys. The company has announced rollouts in the US and East Asia but said nothing about when the Android and iOS apps will come to the UK or the rest of Europe. This may be because the company is waiting for the EU’s new AI Act to be set in stone, says Dragoș Tudorache, a Romanian politician and member of the European Parliament, who was a key negotiator on the law.

“We’re working with local regulators to make sure that we’re abiding by local regime requirements before we can expand,” Hsiao said. “Rest assured, we are absolutely working on it and I hope we’ll be able to announce expansion very, very soon.”

How can you get it? Gemini Pro, Google’s middle-tier model that has been available via Bard since December, will continue to be available for free on the web at gemini.google.com (rather than bard.google.com). But now there is a mobile app as well.

If you have an Android device, you can either download the Gemini app or opt in to an upgrade in Google Assistant. This will let you call up Gemini in the same way that you use Google Assistant: by pressing the power button, swiping from the corner of the screen, or saying “Hey, Google!” iOS users can download the Google app, which will now include Gemini.

Gemini will pop up as an overlay on your screen, where you can ask it questions or give it instructions about whatever’s on your phone at the time, such as summarizing an article or generating a caption for a photo.

Finally, Google is launching a paid-for service called Gemini Advanced. This comes bundled in a subscription costing $19.99 a month that the company is calling the Google One Premium AI Plan. It combines the perks of the existing Google One Premium Plan, such as 2TB of extra storage, with access to Google's most powerful model, Gemini Ultra, for the first time. This will compete with OpenAI’s paid-for service, ChatGPT Plus, which buys you access to the more powerful GPT-4 (rather than the default GPT-3.5) for $20 a month.

At some point soon (Google didn't say exactly when) this subscription will also unlock Gemini across Google’s Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, where it works as a smart assistant similar to the GPT-4-powered Copilot that Microsoft is trialing in Office 365.

When can you get it? The free Gemini app (powered by Gemini Pro) is available from today in English in the US. Starting next week, you’ll be able to access it across the Asia Pacific region in English and in Japanese and Korean. But there is no word on when the app will come to the UK, countries in the EU, or Switzerland.

Gemini Advanced (the paid-for service that gives access to Gemini Ultra) is available in English in more than 150 countries, including the UK and EU (but not France). Google says it is analyzing local requirements and fine-tuning Gemini for cultural nuance in different countries. But the company promises that more languages and regions are coming.

What can you do with it? Google says it has developed its Gemini products with the help of more than 100 testers and power users. At the press conference yesterday, Google execs outlined a handful of use cases, such as getting Gemini to help write a cover letter for a job application. “This can help you come across as more professional and increase your relevance to recruiters,” said Google’s vice president for product management, Kristina Behr.

Or you could take a picture of your flat tire and ask Gemini how to fix it. A more elaborate example involved Gemini managing a snack rota for the parents of kids on a soccer team. Gemini would come up with a schedule for who should bring snacks and when, help you email other parents, and then field their replies. In future versions, Gemini will be able to draw on data in your Google Drive that could help manage carpooling around game schedules, Behr said.

But we should expect people to come up with a lot more uses themselves. “I’m really excited to see how people around the world are going to push the envelope on this AI,” Hsaio said.

Is it safe? Google has been working hard to make sure its products are safe to use. But no amount of testing can anticipate all the ways that tech will get used and misused once it is released. In the last few months, Meta saw people use its image-making app to produce pictures of Mickey Mouse with guns and SpongeBob SquarePants flying a jet into two towers. Others used Microsoft’s image-making software to create fake pornographic images of Taylor Swift .

The AI Act aims to mitigate some—but not all—of these problems. For example, it requires the makers of powerful AI like Gemini to build in safeguards, such as watermarking for generated images and steps to avoid reproducing copyrighted material. Google says that all images generated by its products will include its SynthID watermarks.

Like most companies, Google was knocked onto the back foot when ChatGPT arrived. Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI has given it a boost over its old rival. But with Gemini, Google has come back strong: this is the slickest packaging of this generation’s tech yet.

Google Comes To The Rescue Of Old Windows PCs With This Help

Last Updated: February 15, 2024, 09:00 IST

Google is ready to help people using old Windows PCs with outdated version

Google is ready to help people using old Windows PCs with outdated version

Google will allow businesses to install an auto-updating version of the Chrome operating system to Windows devices.

(Reuters) – Google will allow businesses to install an auto-updating version of the Chrome operating system to Windows devices, potentially preventing millions of PCs from hitting landfills after Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 next year, parent company Alphabet said on Wednesday.

The company said ChromeOS Flex will continue receiving regular security updates and features like data encryption, allowing users to keep using their Windows 10 systems.

Microsoft has said that its Windows 10 will reach the end of support on Oct. 14 2025, and will no longer provide regular security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. It has asked customers to transition to Windows 11 or explore other options.

However, a report from Canalys Research suggests that the termination of Windows 10 support could send about 240 million PCs to landfills, as demand for devices without security updates could be low.

Still, many PCs with Windows 10 could remain functional for years after the end of OS support.

ChromeOS is significantly less popular than other operating systems. In January 2024, it held a 1.8% share of the worldwide desktop OS market, far behind Windows' share of about 73%, according to data from research firm Statcounter.

ChromeOS has struggled with wider adaptability due to its incompatibility with legacy Windows applications and productivity suites used by businesses.

Google said that ChromeOS would allow users to stream legacy Windows and productivity applications, which will help deliver them to devices by running the apps on a data center.

Bard becomes Gemini: Try Ultra 1.0 and a new mobile app today

Feb 08, 2024

Bard is now known as Gemini, and we’re rolling out a mobile app and Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0.

Sissie Hsiao_295x295

Since we launched Bard last year, people all over the world have used it to collaborate with AI in a completely new way — to prepare for job interviews, debug code , brainstorm new business ideas or, as we announced last week, create captivating images .

Our mission with Bard has always been to give you direct access to our AI models, and Gemini represents our most capable family of models. To reflect this, Bard will now simply be known as Gemini.

You can already chat with Gemini with our Pro 1.0 model in over 40 languages and more than 230 countries and territories. And now, we’re bringing you two new experiences — Gemini Advanced and a mobile app — to help you easily collaborate with the best of Google AI.

A video announcing that Bard is becoming Gemini.

Access our most capable AI model with Gemini Advanced

Today we’re launching Gemini Advanced — a new experience that gives you access to Ultra 1.0, our largest and most capable state-of-the-art AI model. In blind evaluations with our third-party raters, Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 is now the most preferred chatbot compared to leading alternatives.

With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced is far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions and collaborating on creative projects. Gemini Advanced not only allows you to have longer, more detailed conversations; it also better understands the context from your previous prompts. For example:

  • Gemini Advanced can be your personal tutor — creating step-by-step instructions, sample quizzes or back-and-forth discussions tailored to your learning style.
  • It can help you with more advanced coding scenarios, serving as a sounding board for ideas and helping you evaluate different coding approaches.
  • It can help digital creators go from idea to creation by generating fresh content, analyzing recent trends and brainstorming improved ways to grow their audiences.

This first version of Gemini Advanced reflects our current advances in AI reasoning and will continue to improve. As we add new and exclusive features, Gemini Advanced users will have access to expanded multimodal capabilities, more interactive coding features, deeper data analysis capabilities and more. Gemini Advanced is available today in more than 150 countries and territories in English, and we'll expand it to more languages over time.

A video with more details about Gemini Advanced.

Gemini Advanced is available as part of our brand new Google One AI Premium Plan for $19.99/month, starting with a two-month trial at no cost. This plan gives you the best of Google AI and our latest advancements, along with all the benefits of the existing Google One Premium plan , such as 2TB of storage. In addition, AI Premium subscribers will soon be able to use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets and more (formerly known as Duet AI).

We continue to take a bold and responsible approach to bringing this technology to the world. And, to mitigate issues like unsafe content or bias, we’ve built safety into our products in accordance with our AI Principles . Before launching Gemini Advanced, we conducted extensive trust and safety checks, including external red-teaming. We further refined the underlying model using fine-tuning and reinforcement learning, based on human feedback. You can find more detail in our updated Gemini Technical Report .

Easily use Gemini on your phone

We’ve heard that you want an easier way to access Gemini on your phone. So today we’re starting to roll out a new mobile experience for Gemini and Gemini Advanced with a new app on Android and in the Google app on iOS .

With Gemini on your phone, you can type, talk or add an image for all kinds of help while you’re on the go: You can take a picture of your flat tire and ask for instructions, generate a custom image for your dinner party invitation or ask for help writing a difficult text message. It’s an important first step in building a true AI assistant — one that is conversational, multimodal and helpful.

On Android, Gemini is a new kind of assistant that uses generative AI to collaborate with you and help you get things done.

If you download the Gemini app or opt in through Google Assistant, you'll be able to access it from the app or anywhere else you normally activate Google Assistant — hitting the power button or corner swiping on select phones, or saying “Hey Google.” This will enable a new overlay experience that offers easy access to Gemini as well as contextual help right on your screen — so you can, for instance, generate a caption for a picture you've just taken or ask questions about an article you're reading. Many Google Assistant voice features will be available through the Gemini app — including setting timers, making calls and controlling your smart home devices — and we’re working to support more in the future.

On iOS, we’ll roll out access to Gemini right from the Google app in the coming weeks. Just tap the Gemini toggle and chat with Gemini to supercharge your creativity, create custom images, get help writing social posts and even plan a date night right from the Google app. We can’t wait for you to try it.

Gemini is rolling out on Android and iOS phones in the U.S. in English starting today, and will be fully available in the coming weeks. Starting next week, you’ll be able to access it in more locations in English, and in Japanese and Korean, with more countries and languages coming soon.

Try out the latest updates — and share your feedback to help us make your experience even better.
