ATT Flexible Pooled Plans for businesses

Mobile Select: Flexible Pooled Plans

Maybe unlimited data is unnecessary. Maybe you need to curtail data usage by employees based on projects and location. If this situation sounds familiar, then consider an AT&T Mobile Select pooled data plan. With these plans, you still get unlimited talk and text along with a pool of shared data that you can assign to members of your plan.

How does that work? Let's say you sign up for 9 Gb of mobile data, with three of your employees signed up to your plan. With the Mobile Select plan, you can assign data limits to each employee within the 9 GB – so each of them can have a monthly limit of 3 Gb, or two can have 1.5 GB while the third has 6 GB. You have the complete freedom to assign your mobile data as you see fit.

Pooled plans also come with the same unlimited talk and text, plus AT&T Stream Saver. Stream Saver limits video quality to 480p (roughly DVD quality) while a phone is on the mobile network, so that streaming video doesn't use all of that monthly data. Once that phone is on a Wi-Fi network or attached to an AT&T hotspot, it will switch over to allow HD video.

AT&T Mobile Shared Plans for Business

Finally, if you just want a group data plan for your employees that covers all data usage from a shared account, then sign up for AT&T Share Data or Share Plus for Business. These two plans simplify your Business Wireless by allowing you to pay for aggregate data usage covering your team from a set limit, with options to extend your limit when needed.

Calling Features and Perks from AT&T Business Wireless

Depending on your plan, you also get access to several perks and features exclusive to the AT&T Wireless network. These include:

 • Wi-Fi Calling. Use local Wi-Fi when making and receiving calls. If you are in a location with Wi-Fi but have poor cellular coverage, you can count staying connected with your wireless device.
 • NumberSync . An app for iOS and Android devices that allows you to use your AT&T Mobile number with smart devices like tablets and wearable without needing access to your phone.
 • AT&T International Day Pass for Business. Qualifying customers can pay $10 per day to use talk, text, and data in over 100 countries without incurring heavy international rates.

AT&T Wireless is committed to helping business customers develop their local and global brands. With our coverage in over 200 countries and 7 continents, you can count on AT&T Wireless to make sure you and your staff are consistently available, within the reach of a cell phone call or email.

Is AT&T a good carrier?

The best AT&T phone plans don't always come cheaply — some of the carrier's unlimited data options are fairly pricey, in fact. But AT&T features extensive network coverage and a growing 5G presence. It routinely offers great deals on phones, whether you're an existing customer or planning on switching service, and we've got a range of AT&T Mobility promo codes to make those prices even better. It's just a matter of finding the right plan for your budget.

1. The quick list 2. Best overall plan 3. Best value 4. Best family plan 5. Best plan for travelers 6. Best tiered data plan 7. Best plan for seniors 8. Other AT&T plans 9. Low-cost alternatives 10. Is AT&T a good carrier?

That can require looking beyond AT&T's marquee offerings if you want to find some of the best cell phone plans on offer at the carrier. For instance, AT&T provides one of the best unlimited data plans we've found in our research into the best phone carriers, though it's only available to single-line customers. Anyone on the lookout for the best family cell phone plans will need to consider other options at AT&T.

We've looked at every plan available through AT&T — both postpaid and prepaid — to find the best options for both individuals and families. You can find some very good value at AT&T, particularly if you're willing to pay upfront for your service. And if it's unlimited data you're after, we can help you sort through the carrier's different options.

Here's a closer look at the best AT&T phone plans currently available.

The quick list

AT&T's best plan

AT&T's best rate on unlimited data is a $50.99 monthly plan with few perks that's only available as a single-line option. But it does let you access AT&T's extensive network for less.

Read more below

Pay for a full year of service upfront with AT&T's prepaid plan, and you can get unlimited data at a low monthly rate, with a generous 16GB cap before your speeds are slowed down.

Families will get the best mix of price and data with Unlimited Extra, though you can mix and match any of AT&T's unlimited offerings for each line of data on your plan. Get per-line discounts as you add more lines.

Best plan for travel

If you spend a lot of time in Latin America, get Unlimited Premium as it lets you use your talk, text and data in 20 countries at no extra charge. There's no cap on data, so AT&T never slows your speeds on this plan

Best tiered data plan

AT&T focuses on unlimited data plans, but if you don't need all that data at your disposal, you can pay less each month. This $40 plan gives you a still generous 15GB chunk of data, with unused data rolling over to the next month.

If you're 55 years or older, you can get two lines of unlimited data at a discounted rate through AT&T. You will need to live in Florida to take advantage of this offer, however.

The best AT&T phone plan overall

AT&T Value Plus | unlimited data | $50.99/month - AT&T's best phone planPros: Cons:

AT&T Value Plus | unlimited data | $50.99/month - <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/plans/wireless/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> AT&T's best phone plan AT&T's best phone plan gives you unlimited data for the lowest possible rate — just $50.99 per month. There are some caveats to Value Plus, however. First, you can only have one line of data on the plan, so families will have to look elsewhere. Perks are also minimal — you get 5G coverage and unlimited talk, text and data between the U.S., Canada and Mexico plus free texting to 200-plus countries, but that's it. And AT&T can slow your speeds whenever its network gets congested. But if those are acceptable terms, you won't find a cheaper way to enjoy all the data you can consume. Pros: Cheapest unlimited plan at AT&T; Includes 5G Cons: Available for just one person; Speeds can slow at any time

Best AT&T phone plan value

AT&T Prepaid | unlimited data | $25/month — Low monthly prepaid rate

AT&T Prepaid | unlimited data | $25/month — <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/prepaid/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Low monthly prepaid rate AT&T's <a href="https://www.tomsguide.com/best-picks/best-prepaid-phone-plans" data-link-merchant="tomsguide.com"" data-link-merchant="att.com"">best prepaid phone plan shows how you can save by paying upfront. By paying $300 for a full year of service, you get an unlimited data plan that breaks down to just $25 a month for coverage on AT&T's network. There is a 16GB cap on high-speed data including 5G, and if you go over that, your speeds slow down to a pokey 1.5Mbps for the remainder of the billing cycle. But 16GB is a pretty generous chunk of data, and you can enjoy 10GB of hotspot data with your plan, too.

Pros: Hotspot data; Low monthly rate Cons: Big upfront payment; Speeds slow down after 16GB of use

Best AT&T family plan

AT&T Unlimited Extra | unlimited data | $163.96/month (four lines) — Best option for familiesPros:Cons:

AT&T Unlimited Extra | unlimited data | $163.96/month (four lines) — <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/plans/wireless/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Best option for families The AT&T Unlimited Extra plan offers the best mix of price and features for families who want unlimited data through AT&T. A single line of Unlimited Extra costs $75.99, but escalating discounts as you add lines bring the per-line cost down to $40.99 for a family of four. For that you get 75GB of high-speed data before AT&T slows down your speeds, and each line can use 30GB of data for hotspotting. Pros: Big data cap; Hotspot data for each line Cons: T-Mobile offers better pricing; No streaming perks

Best AT&T phone plan for travelers

AT&T Unlimited Premium | Unlimited data | $85.99/month - Free coverage in Latin AmericaPros:Cons:

AT&T Unlimited Premium | Unlimited data | $85.99/month - <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/plans/wireless/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Free coverage in Latin America At $85.99, Unlimited Premium is AT&T's most expensive plan. Other perks to Unlimited Premium include 60GB of hotspot data and 4K video streaming support. Also, AT&T won't slow down your data speeds no matter how much data you use each month. Pros: No data caps at all; Coverage in 20 Latin American countries Cons: AT&T's most expensive plan

Best AT&T phone plan with tiered data

AT&T Prepaid | 15GB data | $40/month — Big bucket of prepaid dataPros:Cons:

AT&T Prepaid | 15GB data | $40/month — <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/prepaid/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Big bucket of prepaid data Most of AT&T's plans offer unlimited data, but if you turn to the carrier's prepaid options, you can find this 15GB plan that gives you more than enough data for just $40 a month. You can use that data to turn your phone into a hotspot, and you can count on 5G access where available. Unused data rolls over into the next month. Pros: Rollover data; Includes coverage in Mexico and Canada Cons: Pricey compared to other prepaid plans; Speeds slowed to 128 Kbps when you hit your cap

Best AT&T phone plan for seniors

AT&T Unlimited 55+ Plan | unlimited data | $60/month — Great value for seniorsPros: Cons:

AT&T Unlimited 55+ Plan | unlimited data | $60/month — <a href="https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-8900245-15735111?sid=hawk-custom-tracking&url=https://www.att.com/plans/unlimited-data-plans/55-plus-senior-discount/" data-link-merchant="att.com"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Great value for seniors Customers 55 years and older can enjoy unlimited talk, text and data for just $60/month, which beats the price of AT&T's standard unlimited plans. If you need a second line, the total cost is only $80/month, and 5G access comes with your plan. You've got coverage in Mexico and Canada as well as the u.S. and you can text from the U.S. to 200-plus countries. Sadly, only Florida residents are eligible for AT&T's senior discount. Pros: Low rate for two lines of unlimited data; 5G access included Cons: Restricted to Florida residents

Other AT&T plans

Unlike the extensive options among T-Mobile phone plans and Verizon phone plans , our top picks for AT&T cover most of the different plans at that carrier. However, there are a few remaining plans you should know about as well.

The Unlimited Extra and Unlimited Premium options make up two-thirds of AT&T's three main plans. The third option is the cheapest of the trio — Unlimited Starter costs $65.99 for just one line. It offers just 5GB of hotspot data and AT&T can slow your data at any time. Unless you need hotspot data or want the ability to add extra lines, Value Plus will cost you even less.

AT&T's prepaid plans include one other tiered data option, plus a pair of unlimited offerings. The tiered plan delivers 5GB of data for $30/month. As for the unlimited prepaid plans, a $40 monthly caps your speeds at 3 Mbps for the first 30GB of data; after that, your speeds are cut in half for the rest of the billing cycle. Instead, we'd steer you toward the $50 prepaid unlimited plan which includes 5GB of hotspot data and only slows your speeds when there's heavy traffic. Still, if you can pay for a year of service upfront, that $25 monthly plan offers more value for prepaid customers.

Low-cost AT&T alternatives

If you like AT&T's network, but don't care for AT&T's prices, there's more than one way to enjoy the carrier's extensive coverage. Mobile virtual network operators, or MVNOs, use AT&T's towers to provide their own service, usually at a lower rate than what AT&T charges. The trade-off is that AT&T gives priority to its own traffic so you may see slower data speeds.

The best-known AT&T MVNO is Cricket Wireless, which AT&T owns and operates. Cricket has a $40 monthly data plan that delivers 10GB of data. That's less than AT&T's best tiered data plan, but Cricket does offer an autopay discount to lower its cost to $35. An unlimited data plan at Cricket costs $65/month for one line but includes perks like the ad-supported tier of the Max streaming service — something you don't even get at AT&T.

Other AT&T MVNOs include the senior-friendly Consumer Cellular, Boost and Red Pocket Mobile.

In our guide to the best phone carriers , AT&T ranks behind Verizon and T-Mobile among the major carriers, as T-Mobile offers better perks and Verizon offers an extensive network. That said, AT&T has a strong reputation for its own coverage, as Rootmetrics split its award for best overall network between AT&T and Verizon for performance during the second half of 2023. The same reort says AT&T has the speediest performance overall.

However, AT&T is in a bit of a weird spot. It's not quite as large a network as Verizon and lacks its intensive coverage and it isn't as affordable as our top ranked carrier - T-Mobile. While some of AT&T's plans can be quite expensive, it offers ways around this, most noticeably through family plan discounts and savings for nurses, teachers, first responders, military and more; you can also save with some schools, organizations and employers.

AT&T Business Revamps Smartphone Plan Lineup – Including New Unlimited Premium Plan with 200GB Hotspot Data

Posted on: September 19, 2023 / In: News Stories , AT&T / By: Jen Nealy Leave a Comment

Key Points:

 • AT&T Business revamped its lineup of smartphone plans
 • The new top-tier Unlimited Premium plan comes with unlimited on-device data and 200GB of hotspot data
 • This brings its offerings in line with business options from Verizon and T-Mobile

AT&T Business recently revamped its lineup of smartphone plans - including the new top-tier Unlimited Premium plan - with a whopping 200GB of hotspot data.

Table of Contents

Video Story

New Plans Overview

The new AT&T Business smartphone plan lineup includes the following plans: Unlimited Premium, Unlimited Advanced, and Unlimited Standard. These plans replace the previously offered Unlimited Elite, Unlimited Performance, and Unlimited Starter plans.

All plans are now $5 less per month - $80 (Premium), $70 (Advanced), and $60 (Standard) - for a single line of service. That pricing reflects using both the autopay and paperless billing discounts and does not include taxes and fees.

Unlimited Premium

The new top-tier Unlimited Premium plan comes with unlimited on-device data with no deprioritization. Additionally, it now has 200GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data (up from 100GB on Unlimited Elite).

Another nice perk to the Unlimited Premium plan is that it now comes with 7 International Day Passes per month, giving you access to your plan's data in 210+ international locations. Unlimited Premium also gives you coverage in 19 Latin America countries .

Unlimited Advanced

The new mid-tier Unlimited Advanced plan includes unlimited on-device data and now comes with 100GB (up from 40GB on Unlimited Performance) of mobile hotspot data. However, all data on this plan is deprioritized. This is a downgrade over the previous "Performance" plan, which included 50GB of premium data.

Unlimited Starter

The new Unlimited Standard plan has no changes from the previous Unlimited Starter plan, other than it now costs $5 less per month.

Comparison to Verizon and T-Mobile Plans

This change brings AT&T's offerings in line with what Verizon and T-Mobile are now offering in their business plan lineups.

Verizon and T-Mobile also have top-tier plans with 200GB of mobile hotspot data. Verizon's Unlimited Pro 5G plan is the same price as AT&T's Unlimited Premium, at $80/month. T-Mobile's Business Unlimited Ultimate plan is $95/month, but that price includes taxes & fees. Also, T-Mobile's plan is only available for iPhones.

It's nice to see these plans with such big chunks of mobile hotspot data. The only catch is that these offerings are all for business accounts. The requirements for getting a business account vary with each carrier, but for the most part, you can do it even as an individual as long you set it up as a sole proprietor. On AT&T, this can be done with a Social Security Number for a small business account.

Here's our chart showing the business (and consumer) options for each carrier.

AT&T's Unlimited Plans Explained: Which One Is Best?

Stetson Doggett profile picture

AT&T offers a selection of cell phone plans to choose from. But, what are the differences and which plan is best?

In this article, I’ll be covering exactly what the differences are between AT&T’s offerings and which cell phone plan you should sign up for.

An Overview of AT&T’s Cell Phone Plans

AT&T offers a total of four cell phone plans to choose from:

 • AT&T 4GB

AT&T Unlimited Starter

AT&T Unlimited Extra

AT&T Unlimited Elite

All of AT&T’s main cell phone plans are postpaid. A postpaid cell plan means you pay for your service either in the middle of the month or after your month of service and during your next billing cycle.

To sign up for a postpaid plan from AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile, they need to run a credit check to make sure you will pay your bill after your month of service.

If you’d prefer not to have your credit checked, then you may consider AT&T Prepaid . With AT&T Prepaid, and all of the other prepaid plans out there, you pay for your month of service up front. This means you don’t have to get your credit checked to sign up.

What Are The Differences Between AT&T’s Cell Phone Plans?

The first question you are probably asking is, “what are the differences between AT&T’s cell phone plans?"

There are four main differences between AT&T’s cell phone plans:

 • The amount of premium data
 • The amount of hotspot data
 • The streaming quality
 • The included perks

Here is a comparison between each of the plans, and what each plan specifically includes.

AT&T 4GB - $50/month

Beginning with the cheapest plan, we have AT&T 4GB. And right upfront, this plan is terrible.

It’s $50 per month, and you get 4GB of premium data, mobile hotspot support, and 480p video streaming.

As for the perks, you are looking at use in Canada and Mexico, unlimited texting from the U.S. to 200 countries, and AT&T ActiveArmor security.

Sure, this plan may sound fine at first, but there are two reasons that make it a terrible choice:

 • Data overages. AT&T charges you $10 per 2GB when you go over your data allowance. That can rack up your bill quickly if you aren’t paying attention.
 • You can get truly unlimited data for $45 per month from AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Max if you’re a single-line user, and a family of four can just get AT&T Unlimited Extra for $40/line, which is the same price as the 4GB plan.

So WHY would you get the 4GB plan when you can get unlimited data for the same price or less and avoid any overage charges?

Avoid this plan like the black plague you avoided. Because you were born after it. It wasn’t even an option for you to get. And neither is this plan.

Don’t get it.

ATT& 4GB plan details and features

AT&T 4GB Plan

 • Price: $50/month single-line, $40/line/month for a family of four
 • Minutes: Unlimited
 • Texts: Unlimited
 • Data: 4GB premium data
 • Hotspot: Hotspot included
 • Video streaming: 480p video streaming
 • 5G access: Yes
 • International texting: Unlimited texting from the U.S. to 200+ countries
 • International data: Unlimited high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico
 • Perks: Active Armor security (spam and fraud call blocking), 6 months of Stadia Pro

AT&T Unlimited Starter - $65/month

The next plan is AT&T Unlimited Starter. This is AT&T’s entry-level unlimited plan.

$65 per month gets you unlimited deprioritized data, no mobile hotspot, and 480p video streaming.

The perks are basic here, too. You get unlimited use in Canada and Mexico, unlimited texting from the U.S. to 200 countries, AT&T ActiveArmor security, and AT&T throws in 6 months of Stadia Pro.

Two key things I want to mention here: 1) what is deprioritized data? and 2) what is Active Armor Security?

 • What is deprioritized data?

Deprioritized data means that any time the AT&T network is busy, such as at a crowded sports game, a stadium, a concert, an event, the airport, or another crowded area, your data speeds might be slightly slower than someone else’s speeds who is paying for premium data .

How much are you likely to notice this?

Honestly, you’re not likely to notice at all. I did a full speed test of all AT&T plans at the Boston Logan airport, and surprisingly the deprioritized AT&T Unlimited Starter plan averaged the fastest speeds out of them all. And all plans averaged well over 200Mbps.

AT&T priority level test in Boston Logan Airport. This is Unlimited Starter: pic.twitter.com/Da22ogL1AK — Stetson Doggett (@stetsondoggett) July 12, 2021

So the bottom line here is don’t worry about being deprioritized. If you are curious though, I did do a side-by-side-by-side-by-side speed test comparison video of Starter vs Extra vs Elite vs Prepaid vs MVNO. Check that out here if you’re interested:

 • What is Active Armor Security?

Okay, thing #2 I wanted to mention: what the heck is ActiveArmor security?

Basically, this is a feature that blocks spam and fraud calls. And the only reason I’m bringing it up is because AT&T includes ActiveArmor Advanced in their other plans, which adds a couple of extra features.

AT&T Unlimited Starter plan details and features

 • Price: $65/month single-line, $35/line/month for a family of four
 • Data: Unlimited, deprioritized (data speeds may temporarily slow down during times when the AT&T network is busy)
 • Hotspot: No hotspot support
 • Perks: ActiveArmor security, 6 months of Stadia Pro
 • AT&T Signature Program discount: Military & veterans, first responders, teachers, nurses & physicians

AT&T Unlimited Extra - $75/month

AT&T’s mid-tier plan is Unlimited Extra. This is $75 per month, and it includes three key upgrades over Unlimited Starter.

First, Unlimited Extra includes 50GB of priority data. This means that in crowded environments where the AT&T network is busy, Unlimited Extra customers will notice slightly faster speeds than Unlimited Starter customers.

However, this is only for your first 50GB of usage. After 50GB, you’ll have the exact same speeds and performance as Unlimited Starter.

Second, Unlimited Extra includes 15GB of high-speed hotspot data, and then unlimited hotspot data at 128Kbps. This is great for sharing your cellular data connection with your tablet, computer, or other devices while you are traveling.

And third, AT&T upgrades the “ActiveArmor security” to “ActiveArmor advanced security.” In additional to spam and fraud call blocking, you now get three more features: caller ID, identity monitoring, and expanded Wi-Fi protection.

The rest of the plan features are the same between Starter and Extra. You still get 480p video streaming, 5G access, unlimited texting from the U.S. to 120+ countries, and unlimited high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico.

The 6 month free trial of Stadia Pro is also still here, as well.

Here’s the recap of what’s included with AT&T’s mid-tier plan:

AT&T Unlimited Extra plan details and features

 • Price: $75/month single-line, $40/line/month for a family of four
 • Data: 50GB premium data, then deprioritized
 • Hotspot: 15GB high-speed, then 128Kbps
 • Perks: ActiveArmor advanced security, 6 months of Stadia Pro

AT&T Unlimited Elite - $85/month

AT&T Unlimited Elite is AT&T’s top-tier plan. It includes the best features, perks, and benefits AT&T has to offer.

It also comes with the highest price tag: $85 per month.

So what do you get for the extra cost? There are five big improvements with Unlimited Elite compared to Unlimited Starter or Extra.

First, you now get unlimited premium data. AT&T will never slow your data speeds down based on how much data you use. AT&T also puts Elite customers on a higher priority tier, so they will get slightly faster speeds than Unlimited Extra customers when the AT&T network is busy. Again, you’re probably not going to ever notice this, but it is kind of nice knowing that you’re always getting the fastest speeds available on the AT&T network.

Second, AT&T over doubles the hotspot data to 40GB. This isn’t as much as the 50GB Verizon includes in their 5G Get More plan, but it still is plenty for most people.

Third, AT&T finally gets rid of the 480p video streaming limit. Unlimited Elite customers can enjoy their favorite TV shows and movies in up to 4K quality on their mobile device. To enable 4K streaming, just jump into your account settings and turn off “Stream Saver.”

Fourth, Unlimited Elite customers get HBO Max bundled in for free with their service.

And finally fifth, this plan expands offers a special $10/month discount to AARP members, union members, students, and employees of participating businesses.

The rest of the plan features on Unlimited Elite remain the same as Unlimited Extra. You’re still getting 5G access, unlimited texting from the U.S. to 120+ countries, unlimited high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico, AT&T ActiveArmor advanced security, and 6 months of Stadia Pro.

Here’s a recap of what you get with AT&T Unlimited Elite:

AT&T Unlimited Elite plan details and features

 • Price: $85/month single-line, $50/line/month for a family of four
 • Data: Unlimited premium data
 • Hotspot: 40GB high-speed, then 128Kbps
 • Video streaming: 4K video streaming
 • Perks: ActiveArmor advanced security, 6 months of Stadia Pro, HBO Max
 • AT&T Signature Program discount: AARP members, military personnel and veterans, first responders, teachers, nurses and physicians, union members, students, and employees of participating businesses

AT&T Plan Discounts

Now let’s talk pricing and discounts.

AT&T offers a Signature Program where eligible members can save big on their AT&T service.

Business employees, AARP members, union members, and students all can save $10 per month per line off of the cost of the Elite plan. This makes it the same price as Unlimited Extra.

Military veterans, first responders, teachers, and nurses and physicians can also all save 25% off the cost of any AT&T plan.

This brings the cost of Starter, Extra, and Elite down to just $49, $57, and $64 respectively for single-line users.

AT&T of course also offers a multi-line discount on their plans as well.

For a family of four, the regular pricing per line is $35 for Starter, $40 for Extra, and $50 for Elite.

And with the 25% off signature program discount, those family prices drop to just $27, $30, and $38 per line respectively.

What AT&T Plan Is Best For You And Your Family?

This is a great question, and there are two answers.

Best AT&T Unlimited Plan for Single-Line Users

First, if you are a single-line user looking for an unlimited data plan on the AT&T network, the best option is actually none of the plans we’ve covered so far.

Not Unlimited Starter. Not Unlimited Extra. And not Unlimited Elite.

Yup, that's right. The best unlimited data plan for single-line users actually comes from AT&T Prepaid .

It’s the AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus plan.

AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus is normally $75 per month, but AT&T is currently offering a discount where new customers can get the plan for just $50 per month with auto-pay. You even get the discount on your first month of service.

And with AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus you get 22GB of priority data, 10GB of hotspot data, 4K video streaming, and unlimited use in Canada and Mexico.

You’re even still getting the same features as the more expensive postpaid plans: 5G access, spam and fraud call blocking, unlimited high-speed data roaming in Mexico and Canada, and unlimited texting to over 100 countries.

For $50 per month, this is easily one of the best unlimited data plans a single-line user can get on AT&T. Heck, we even rated the plan as one of our best unlimited plans overall. AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus is basically the same as AT&T Unlimited Extra, the mid-tier plan, but for 33% less per month. It’ll save you $300 per year.

The only downside with AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus is that you are not able to finance your phone through AT&T. Instead of having a nice $23.61/month payment plan over 36 months for your shiny new iPhone 13, you’d need to pay the full $830 up front.\

AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus plan details and features

AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus

 • Price: $50/month
 • Data: 22GB premium data, then deproiritized
 • Hotspot: 10GB high-speed, then 128Kbps
 • Perks: Fraud call blocking and spam alerts, 100GB cloud storage

Best AT&T Unlimited Plan for Families

The best AT&T unlimited plan for families is where things can get a little more nuanced.

Most people will be totally fine with the AT&T Unlimited Starter plan. It’s the most affordable option at just $35/month for four lines, and I think it’s a great plan to consider.

However, with AT&T’s introduction of “Unlimited Your Way” in mid-2020, you can now mix and match unlimited plans. You can pick exactly what plan each line is on.

You can have your kids on Unlimited Starter, put yourself on Unlimited Elite, and have your spouse or partner on Unlimited Extra.

And you know what? That’s exactly what I recommend. Customize your plans so they meet the needs of the people who will be using them.

I think put most people on Unlimited Starter. It’s the lowest-cost plan, and it’s likely going to meet the needs of 99% of people.

Even though it doesn’t have hotspot data, most public places that are great for doing work, such as libraries, hotels, coffee shops, etc., typically have decent public Wi-Fi. So most people probably don’t need hotspot data with their plan.

If there is someone who needs hotspot data, then bump them up to Unlimited Extra.

Finally, if you want the HBO Max perk, or if there is someone who needs more than 50GB of priority data or more than 15GB of hotspot data, then bump that one person up to Unlimited Elite.

It only takes one line on Elite to get the HBO Max perk, and considering it’s only $10 to upgrade a line from Extra to Elite compared to $15 for getting HBO Max as a standalone service, it is easily worth upgrading that one line for the perk.

And if you don’t want or need HBO Max, then keep your lines on Starter or Extra.

Should You Switch to Cricket?

My final bit of advice is if you should switch to Cricket Wireless .

If you have a family plan on AT&T where ALL lines are on AT&T Unlimited Starter for the best value, then you should 100% consider switching to Cricket Wireless.

The reason is because Cricket Wireless is an even better value.

Cricket is a prepaid carrier that is actually owned and operated by AT&T, so you get the exact same coverage and performance.

Cricket is so compelling as a carrier because they offer an amazing family discount. Four lines on Cricket’s Unlimited More plan comes out to just $33/line, and all taxes and fees included.

Compared to AT&T Unlimited Starter, Cricket’s plan saves you about $25 per month ($300 per year). Plus, Cricket also includes extra features like 15GB of high-speed hotspot data and 150GB of free cloud storage.

Those are nice perks to have, especially for a lower cost.

Furthermore, Cricket’s plan is also deprioritized on the AT&T network, just like AT&T Unlimited Starter is, so you’ll have the exact same speeds and performance.

So if you’re going to end up getting a family plan where all lines are on Unlimited Starter, why not switch to Cricket and get a better plan for a lower cost?

Heck, Cricket’s Unlimited More plan could even be a good option for people on AT&T Unlimited Extra who need the hotspot data but who want to save some extra cash.

Either way, Cricket’s plan is worth considering given the value it offers at such an affordable price point.

AT&T Unlimited Elite Plan Review

AT&T’s Unlimited Elite plan is the fanciest of AT&T’s consumer-grade unlimited plans. While it comes with a steep price tag, the Unlimited Elite plan includes more features than any of AT&T’s other plans. I trialed the Unlimited Elite plan in November 2020 and had a positive experience.

Key plan attributes

View unlimited plans on AT&T’s website

Subscribers on the Unlimited Elite plan get access to coverage from both AT&T’s native network and AT&T’s roaming partners. An interactive coverage map is available on AT&T’s website .

AT&T coverage map

Speeds on the Unlimited Elite plan will depend on factors like the a subscriber’s location and the device a subscriber is using. In most cases, subscribers will experience solid speeds. The screenshot below shows the results of a handful of speed tests I ran while using the plan in Chicago, IL.

Generally fast speed test results

Data priority

The Unlimited Elite plan comes with unlimited high-priority data. Subscribers with high-priority data will experience faster speeds than some other users on the network during periods of congestion.

Mobile hotspot.

The Unlimited Elite plan comes with 40GB per month of full-speed mobile hotspot data.

Unlimited Elite subscribers with a 5G-capable device can access AT&T’s 5G service with no extra charge. I did not use a 5G-capable phone when I tried the plan.

Other perks

Subscribers on the Unlimited Elite plan get a handful of miscellaneous perks:

The price of the Unlimited Elite plan varies based on the number of lines on an account. The table below shows the prices of AT&T’s postpaid unlimited plans before taxes and fees and after a discount for subscribers that set up automatic payments and paperless billing.

Within a single family plan, AT&T customers can mix-and-match among AT&T’s three postpaid unlimited plans.

Review background

I tried the Unlimited Elite plan in November 2020. For most of my trial, I was in Chicago, IL and used a Motorola G7 Play.

In July 2021, AT&T made upgrades to the Elite plan, and I updated this page accordingly. When I trialed the plan, it only included 30GB of hotspot data and 100GB high-priority data. Video throttling also worked a bit differently than it does now.

Last updated: July 2021

 • I found a QCI of 8 for data use on the Unlimited Extra plan. On the Unlimited Starter plan, I found a QCI of 9 for regular data use.

By default, AT&T throttles subscribers with the Unlimited Elite plan to standard-definition video streaming. However, subscribers on the Unlimited Elite plan have the option to turn off this throttling.

A test I ran with the app Wehe confirmed that the Unlimited Elite plan throttled video by default:

I ran a second test after turning off video throttling:

Verizon launches service that lets customers have two numbers on one cell phone

 • Robert Higgs, cleveland.com

NEW YORK -- Verizon has launched a plan that will allow customers to have a second phone line without having to have a second phone.

The plan, dubbed Second Number, allows customers to get a second line with unlimited talk and text for an introductory cost of $10 a month.

“Customers increasingly use two phone numbers to manage their busy lives,” Verizon said in a statement . From safely selling on online marketplaces to operating side gigs, to replacing landlines or getting a special number just for family, customers want access to a second phone number—and often, get a second phone to do so.”

Verizon isn’t the only company offering second line services, according to Android Authority . While there are cheaper alternatives, nearly all the free or lower cost options use a special app for calls and texts.

“This won’t provide as stable or reliable of a connection as you’d get with Second Number,” Android Authority said. “Some of these apps have other advantages including support for multiple virtual numbers, cheap international calling rates, and more.”

Verizon announced the plan this month Thursday, March 7. It will offer the new service for $10 a month until June 5. Customers who sign up after June 5 can get Second Number for $15 a month.

The service is available to customers with dual SIM phones . If a customer upgrades their phone, Second Number lines will automatically transfer, Verizon said.

The service will allow customers to swap between lines for phone and messaging apps seamlessly, Verizon said. Customers will be able to see which line is being used for an incoming call or text message, and replys will automatically go out on those same lines.

Mint Mobile and Tello Mobile are less expensive alternatives to major carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. They're especially tempting options for single-line users looking to save on their monthly mobile connectivity bills.

Mint Mobile and Tello are known as mobile virtual network operators, or "MVNOs," which piggyback off a major carrier's network to deliver wireless service. In this case, both Mint Mobile and Tello operate on T-Mobile's network.

As such, there isn't a major difference between Mint Mobile and Tello when it comes to coverage, reliability, and speeds. Instead, the major difference between them is the data allotment in the plans they offer, as well as the pricing. With that in mind, it can be quite simple to pick which one is best for you — go with the plan with the amount of data you need at the best price. We give Mint Mobile a slight edge for its excellent app that makes the carrier our top pick among the best cheap cell phone plans , and one of the best cell phone plans overall, too.

However, Tello sets itself apart from Mint Mobile and most carriers at large with its customizable "Build Your Own Plan" option that lets you customize how much data and how many voice call minutes you want in your plan. It offers the biggest savings if you know you don't need that much data, even if you don't spend much time on phone calls. Accordingly, Tello is our top choice for a "true budget" option in our best cheap cell phone plans guide.

what is at&t business unlimited plan

All of Mint Mobile's three-month plans are now discounted for new customers, so you can get anywhere from 5GB to "unlimited" monthly data (40GB) from our favorite MVNO at the same low prepaid cost of $15/month.

what is at&t business unlimited plan

Tello's unique Build Your Own plan allows you to customize your data and minutes to your specific needs and offers a low base price of $5/month.

Both Mint Mobile and Tello Mobile offer familiar pre-designed plans with set amounts of data, and both have "unlimited" data plans. Just keep in mind that Mint Mobile caps its unlimited data plan to 40GB before data speeds are reduced, and Tello's caps its unlimited data plan at 35GB before affecting speeds.

Below are the standard, entry-level plans for the services, which are prepaid upfront for three months and monthly for Mint Mobile and Tello, respectively.

At the end of the day, Tello offers the most flexibility when compared to Mint Mobile. That's because Tello gives you the opportunity to create your own customized plan that can lead to incredibly deep savings if you have a good sense of how much data, and even how many voice call minutes, you really need on a typical monthly basis.

Indeed, with Tello's "Build Your Own" plan, you can pick a variety of data and voice minutes combinations with free unlimited texting as standard, potentially costing significantly less than Mint Mobile's least expensive ($15) 5GB plan. You can go as far as having no data, 100 minutes for voice calls, and unlimited texting for $5 a month. Or, you can get 5GB of data with 100 voice minutes for $11.

Only Tello offers roll-over data, where unused data (and minutes, in Tello's case) can be rolled over into the next month. However, Tello requires you to manually renew or change your plan every month to carry over your data and minutes. It's possible to do this even with automatic monthly renewal billing — you just need to manually do so in the Tello app at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing cycle. It's not ideal, but at least it's an option.

Neither Mint Mobile nor Tello offers separate plans for connected devices, like smartwatches and tablets.

Read our Mint Mobile review or Tello Mobile review for full breakdowns of the services' respective plans.

As MVNOs, Mint Mobile and Tello Mobile run off the back of major carriers, and both use T-Mobile's network. That means both should have the same coverage area as each other and T-Mobile. It also means if you know T-Mobile covers your area well, Mint Mobile and Tello should work for you.

T-Mobile, and therefore Mint Mobile and Tello, typically have excellent coverage in cities and towns. Coverage is also notably good on major highways, especially with 5G connectivity. However, coverage tends to drop off in rural areas and when you stray away from highways.

Whenever you switch to a new carrier you're unfamiliar with, it's usually a good idea to find out whether the carrier services the area well. You can check T-Mobile's coverage map as a preliminary step, but we find official carrier coverage maps to be optimistic. In this case, you can ask locals in your area who are on T-Mobile (or Mint Mobile and Tello). You could even go on social media services, like Nextdoor. Neither Mint Mobile nor Tello will make sense for you if T-Mobile doesn't service the areas you often visit well.

We experienced slightly better reliability and speeds in testing for our Tello Mobile review in New York City. However, we also suspect we experienced chance deprioritization in the city while testing for our Mint Mobile review — an unfortunate reality of using any MVNO.

Indeed, MVNO customers will experience reduced data speeds when the primary network is congested, and it's difficult to know where and when deprioritization occurs. T-Mobile prioritizes its own customers with "premium" data that doesn't get affected by network congestion.

With that in mind, we fully expect Mint Mobile and Tello to have similar service reliability and speeds, as both run on T-Mobile. Both should also experience deprioritization at the same time, too.

Both Mint Mobile and Tello include 5G service, which can deliver faster data speeds over LTE in certain areas.

We didn't experience any major issues with Mint or Tello during testing, so we couldn't test troubleshooting with more involved issues. However, both carriers offer straightforward apps to help you manage your plans and service. Both also provide chat and phone support, and we experienced low wait times and helpful agents for simpler queries.

We're giving Mint Mobile a slight edge over Tello here for its spectacular app, which is well laid out and incredibly user-friendly.

With coverage, reliability, speeds, and customer support being essentially identical, you could go for either Mint Mobile or Tello Mobile , and your decision should be made by price and how much data you need.

With that in mind, Tello's customizable plan option, called the " Build Your Own Plan ," has a lower cost advantage that allows you to pay as low as $5 a month with customizable amounts of data and voice minutes. It's an ideal option for low-data users or those who don't spend much time on phone calls.

If you're looking for a pre-designed plan, you could go either way for a 5GB plan. However, Mint Mobile offers the best value with its 15GB and 20GB plans. Even further, Mint Mobile is running a promotion at the time of writing for its introductory 3-month plans , where each data plan costs only $15 a month. After three months, pricing returns to normal, with the 12-month plans offering the best value.

For unlimited plans, Tello's Unlimited plan offers stunning value at $25 a month compared to Mint Mobile's Unlimited plan at $30 a month.

However, do keep in mind that if you can get on a plan with three other people, T-Mobile's Essentials plan costs $30 a month per line — the same as Mint Mobile's standard Unlimited plan. And if you can get four people on a T-Mobile Essentials plan, the monthly price per line goes down to $25 a month — the same as Tello's Unlimited plan. If it's possible to get three to four people on your plan, you'd enjoy 50GB of T-Mobile's "premium" data that doesn't get deprioritized when the network is congested for essentially the same price as Mint Mobile or Tello.
