Stream It Or Skip It: 'A Killer Paradox' On Netflix, Where A Regular Guy Becomes An Accidental Serial Killer And Is Pursued By A Tenacious Cop

Stream it or skip it: ‘doctor slump’ on netflix, a charming korean series where job dramas lead two longtime rivals toward romance, stream it or skip it: 'a shop for killers' on hulu, where a woman finds out her late uncle was into lots of shady stuff — and people want revenge, stream it or skip it: 'gyeongseong creature' on netflix, a scary drama that takes place in japanese-occupied korea.

We’ve talked about the “meet-cutes” in romantic K-dramas before. But we haven’t seen a show with as many “meet-cutes” in a first episode as  Business Proposal , a new drama on Netflix. Read on and find out how many you can put up with.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: A young man in a suit trudges through the airport. First we see him in animated form, then the animation goes away and we see him in live action.

The Gist: Kang Tae-mu (Ahn Hyo-seop) has been working overseas for GO Food, the company founded by his grandfather, Kang Da-goo (Lee Deok-hwa). He has been in an overseas office, but has come back to Korea to be installed as the company’s president. He’s serious and detail-oriented, and his grandfather sees him as a workaholic.

Even at the “inaugural” on his first day as the company’s president, he sends his chief of staff, Cha Sung-hoon (Kim Min-kyu) to make a perfunctory speech explaining that he doesn’t have time for all of this ceremony.

At the ceremony is Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong), a relatively new researcher who wasn’t at the company the last time Tae-mu was in Korea. She has had a crush on Lee Min-woo (Song Won-seok) since their university days, and when he calls her on her birthday, she foregoes birthday dinner plans with her co-workers and goes straight to the chef’s restaurant.

“What if he’s planning to transfer from the friendship line to the boyfriend express?” asks Ha-ri’s bestie Jin Young-seo (Seol In-ah). It turns out he isn’t, but not before she runs in his arms and smashes a cake meant for some of his best customers.

Chairman Kang wants his grandson to find a wife, so he tells Tae-mu that he’s set him up on a series of blind dates with women from some of Seoul’s biggest business families. Tae-mu wants nothing to do with it, but suddenly agrees to go on the first one after a lot of prodding.

Young-seo finds out she’s going on a blind date with some business family’s son, and she hates these setups, so she asks Ha-ri to go in her place; it’s worked before. Ha-ri agrees so she can pay off a debt to her parents’ neighbor after a kerfuffle. When she shows up, she realizes the date is with the president of her company. So she tries her best to turn him off, acting unhinged and talking about the men in her life. None of it dissuades him; he even says yes to her offer to get a room.

After the date, he tells Sung-hoon that he wants to marry who he thinks is Young-seo. She comes from a good family, he likes her honesty, and it’ll get his grandfather off his back. When Young-seo hears this, she persuades Ha-ri to meet him and tell him that she’s not interested. Ha-ri tries one again to tell her that he’s a great catch. Let’s just say things get more complicated from there.

What Shows Will It Remind You Of? Take a romantic K-drama like  Forecasting Love and Weather   and amplify the meet-cutes by 10, and you have  Business Proposal .

Our Take: Business Proposal is based on a webtoon called  The Office Blind Date , and it seems to have that kind of feeling, where there’s complications and convolutions galore, and characters that are only somewhat based on reality.

Your enjoyment of the series really depends on how you feel about misunderstandings and complications. As much as Ha-ri wants her friend Young-seo to straighten out this mess, she still gets in deeper the more she meets Tae-mu in the guise of a crazy version of Young-seo. And, of course, she’s run into him at the office, and she has seemed to get his attention for the product research she’s done. So how will she be able to separate her office self from the one pretending to be Young-seo? And when she inevitably falls for Tae-mu, where does she go from there?

Then there’s the matter of Young-seo, who has a love-at-first-sight encounter with Sung-hoon outside a convenience store. You see where this is going, right? When she’s around Sung-hoon, who’s around Tae-mu, who does she say she is? All of these complications might make for a good episode of  Three’s Company , but it feels exhausting for a multiple-episode K-drama.

Sex and Skin: None.

Parting Shot: Trying to avoid Min-woo, Ha-ri ducks into what turns out to be Tae-mu’s car, and sparks fly.

Sleeper Star: Lee Deok-hwa is funny as Chairman Kang, who still wants to watch “his shows” even though he’s the chairman of a huge food conglomerate.

Most Pilot-y Line: One of the scandalous things Ha-ri wanted to do to turn Tae-mu off is… show her bare shoulders! Wow, that  is scandalous!

Our Call: SKIP IT. You may like the complications of a romantic K-drama like  Business Proposal , but we feel it’s trying a bit too hard to make a unique love story.

Synopsis [ ]

Shin Ha-ri ( Kim Se-jeong ) goes on a blind date after she accepts to replace her friend, Jin Young-seo ( Seol In-ah ), whose father had arranged it. The plan is to have Ha-ri 'getting rejected' by her prospective partner. However, it goes awry when her date turns out to be Kang Tae-moo ( Ahn Hyo-seop ), CEO of Go Food, the company where Ha-ri works. Tae-moo, who is being pressured by his grandfather Kang Da-goo ( Lee Deok-hwa ), the chairman of Go Food's parent company, to go on blind dates with suitable marriage partners, decides to marry his blind date partner to avoid going on the rest of the dates, without knowing she is the fake Jin Young-seo or that she is his employee, which she assiduously tries to hide. However, Ha-ri's fake identity, but thankfully not her employment status, is soon exposed after the real Jin Young-seo gets into a parking accident with Cha Sung-hoon ( Kim Min-kyu ), Tae-moo's secretary, who was acting as Tae-moo's driver at that moment.

After Ha-ri's identity is exposed, Young-seo tricks Ha-ri into meeting with Tae-moo at his request. When he asks for her real name, Ha-ri lies and says that her name is Shin Geum-hui (the same name as the female lead of a popular fictional television series) to hide that she is his employee. Tae-moo bullies and bribes Ha-ri into pretending to be his fiancée in exchange for a payment of 800,000 won per date after his grandfather threatens to send him on countless blind dates. The cash-strapped Ha-ri desperately needs the money to bail out her consistently impecunious parents, so she accepts. During the course of fake dating, Ha-ri uses her new identity alongside a fake background, created for her by Tae-moo and Sunghoon, to make a good first impression on Tae-moo's grandfather. While the relationship starts out frosty and uncomfortable, the couple soon grows closer until Tae-moo finds out Ha-ri's real identity. Despite feeling betrayed, Tae-moo still loves Ha-ri and they later became a couple as he told Ha-ri he knew the truth of her identity.

Meantime, Young-seo moves out of her father's house to escape his demands to attend blind dates and finds out, in a comic moment involving a marauding cockroach, that she is now Sung-hoon's neighbor, the man with whom she had become infatuated at first sight after meeting him at a convenience store. While Young-seo is attracted to him, Sung-hoon is upset with her for deceiving his boss, so he constantly tries to avoid her. Still, he cannot further deny his growing affections for Young-seo when he realizes it eventually, and they got together.

Production [ ]

Development [ ].

Business Proposal was initially released as a web novel on KakaoPage between 2017 and 2018 by writer HaeHwa, who gained a following since his debut as a writer in 2012 for the "unconventional" themes of his romance novels. His stories mostly focus on the emotional growth of women who were hurt by their families and how they healed from their wounds. The novels also deal with the difficulty of becoming independent from parents in South Korea. Regarding Business Proposal , HaeHwa said he wrote it "with the mindset that it's easy to read, the content is lively and it's good to make it into a web comic", therefore taking a more classical approach to the romance genre, while still making the main character Shin Ha-ri an "independent" woman. The web novel went viral, reaching a total of 450 million views worldwide, including 160 million in South Korea alone, by the end of February 2022. Due to its early popularity, it was subsequently released as a webtoon developed by illustrator Narak in 2018.

The series was created by StudioS , co-written by Han Seol-hee and Hong Bo-hee, directed by Park Seon-ho and co-produced by Kross Pictures and Kakao Entertainment. The series was director Park Seon-ho's first project as a freelancer after leaving SBS. Park admitted that he had concerns about how to explain Kang Tae-moo's inability to tell the difference between Shin Ha-ri and Shin Geum-hui, the fictitious identity Ha-ri uses to disguise herself. He and his team then decided to introduce new scenes, such as Ha-ri trying to avoid eye contact with Tae-moo and the chase scene with her slipper, an allusion to Cinderella, to "make the flow more natural and the story more realistic". Additional changes included highlighting Ha-ri's competence at her job to emphasize "that Tae-moo would be unable to match Ha-ri and Geum-hui because of his strong impression". Screenwriter Han Seol-hee, better known for her work on comedy series, affirmed that what sets Business Proposal aside from other "contract marriages" storylines is its "unique sense of humour". She considers it the most important element and, as a result, Han said she placed less importance on the chemistry of the characters in order to keep the focus on the jokes while writing the script.

During its airing, Business Proposal almost doubled its television ratings, recording its highest rating in the ninth episode. According to Nielsen Korea, the series recorded a rating of 11.4% in its last episode. It also topped the Content Power Index (CPI) report with 357.7 points in the first week of April 2022. After its release on Netflix, Business Proposal debuted at number 6 on the platform's weekly viewership chart of non-English TV shows in the week of March 7 to 13. The following week it rose to number one, where it stayed for three weeks, recording 32.5 million hours of viewing for the week of March 28 to April 3 alone. It became the first Korean series produced and originally released by a local company to top the chart. The drama was particularly successful in Asia, ranking as the top series in multiple countries including Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore, while placing at number two in India and Sri Lanka, for the week of March 28 to April 3.

Following the series's success, Kakao Entertainment reported that the webtoon was now the second most popular romantic comic ever released on Kakao's platform, while the views for the original web novel increased tenfold. Furthermore, both held the top two spots for most viewed stories on Kakao's platform during the drama's airing.

Critical response [ ]

Despite the initial concerns of adapting a webtoon into a drama, Business Proposal received positive feedback for its way of embracing the clichés of the romcom genre and turning them into "slapstick comedy". Quincy LeGardye of Vulture individuated at least ten typical tropes of the romance genre used for either of the two main couples presented in the series and commented that the drama makes "smart decisions" about which to subvert and which to embrace. The familiarity of the story, derived from using common clichés, alongside its "unique and lovely" characters were named the strengths of the series.

The series was also praised for its way of depicting the issue of molka in South Korea. Jin Young-seo becomes a victim of illegal filming when her neighbor places a spy cam in a lamp he gave her as a housewarming gift. While often in fiction the victim reacts "passively" and lets others handle the situation for her, in the series Young-seo reports the crime to the police and brings evidence with her. It's also made clear that the punishment under the current South Korean law for the crime isn't enough through the words of the police officer who Young-seo speaks to. Furthermore, in many television series', the fictional illegal recordings are frequently broadcast, usually showing the woman losing consciousness and sometimes exposing parts of her body. Instead, Business Proposal avoids portraying the situation explicitly. After the incident, Young-seo goes through trauma and, as a result, she isn't able to use public bathrooms for fear of being filmed, showing how difficult it is for victims to overcome the pain. However, some parts were considered "disappointing". With his influence as a second-generation member of a chaebol family, the male main character Kang Tae-moo manages to gather the testimonies of Young-seo's neighbor's other victims and sues him, also buying out the company where he works at and firing him. The woman has to rely on a man at the end, while it "would have left a more pleasant feeling" if she had "avenged" herself. Furthermore, it was criticized how the situation led to Young-seo's romance with Cha Sung-hoon.

Business Proposal has been major success on Netflix, but will it be returning for a second season?

Business Proposal has been one of the stand out K-Dramas of 2022, and has amassed over hundred million hours of views from subscribers. But despite the series popularity, it’s unclear if Business Proposal will be retuning for a second season on Netflix.

Business Proposal is an internationally licensed South Korean Netflix Original drama series based on the popular webtoon novel The Office Blind Date. The series is directed by Park Seon Ho, and was written by screenwriters Han Sul Hee and Hong Bo Hee.

Shin Ha Ri, has been single for a long time and has held a crush for her friend for years, but learns he has a girlfriend, which leaves her incredibly sad, so she turns to her friend Jin Young Seo for support. Young Seo asks Ha Ri to go on a blind date on her behalf and goes in with the intention of turning down the date, only to discover her date is none other than Kang Tae Moo, the CEO of the company where she works.

A Business Proposal Season 2 Netflix Renewal Status

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Pending (Last Updated: 12/04/2022)

A Business Proposal has been extremely popular on Netflix, however, renewal is ultimately not up to the streaming service, and is instead up to the drama’s distributor SBS, and the producer Kross Pictures. The reason for this is that A Business Proposal is an internationally licensed Original and not produced by Netflix.

This isn’t to say that A Business Proposal won’t be renewed, as Netflix could be massively influential in any decisions made.

Over the past several weeks, A Business Proposal has dominated the Netlfix’s global top ten Non-English TV list. Between February 28th and April 3rd, the k-drama has watched for a total of 102,840,000 million hours. Taking into consideration that we’re still waiting for the viewing data for the final two episodes, the total hours watched will be considerably higher.

For now, we have to wait for a decision to be made by SBS, but we believe it’s highly unlikely that the show will be renewed for a second season.

Ha Ri and Tae Moo

Love was in the air for everyone in the finale of A Business Proposal.

After spending a significant time throughout the season hiding her true identity from Tae Moo, Ha Ri’s secret was finally revealed but that didn’t stop the young CEO from falling in love with her.

business proposal season 2 netflix ha ri tae moo

When the pair’s relationship was revealed to everyone, it caused a lot of trouble as Chairman Kang disapproved of their relationship, even asking Ha Ri to end the relationship and quit her job for Tae Moo’s sake. Ha Ri refuses the Chairman’s request, but the old man faked an illness in order to distract Tae Moo. Despite their differences, Ha Ri visits Chairman Kang, and takes care of him, slowly softening his stance.

Tae Moo and Ha Ri are able to get the approval of their parents, but the former has to take his grandfather to the US for treatment. Ha Ri is invited to go along with Tae Moo to America, but she declines, and instead, the pair settle on a long-distance relationship. A year later Tae Moo returns to Korea and reveals his grandfather finally approves of their relationship and proposes to Ha Ri.

Sung Hoon and Yeong Seo

Avoiding the date with Tae Moo so she can find someone to fall in love with, she goes against her father’s wishes, who had hoped by Yeong Seo marrying Tae Moo, they could merge their respective companies.

Yeong Seo eventually moved out of her father’s home, and as fate would have it she would find an apartment next to Tae Moo’s assistant Sung Hoon.

business proposal season 2 netflix sung hoon

Despite her flirting and advances, Sung Hoon resists due to his concern about what Tae Moo would think. Soon after, Sung Hoon saves Yeong Soo and Ha Ri from a creep who trying to film the pair in the apartment. Eventually, Yeong Soo confesses her feeling for Sung Hoon and the pair begin dating.

Due to her father being so judgemental of Sung Hoon, Yeong Seo leaves her father’s company and starts a brand new life with Sung Hoon. Together, the pair begin their new life by becoming a happily and newly engaged couple after Sung Hoon proposes.

Does the series need a second season?

It may be disappointing to hear for some fans, but no, the series doesn’t need a second season.

The love stories of Ha Ri and Tae Moo, alongside Yeong Seo and Sung Hoon were all left on a happy and positive note. While tension and drama could be crafted from the Tae Moo’s and Yeong Seo’s respective families and their companies, it would feel extremely superficial considering Tae Moo already has the approval of his family, and Yeong Seo removed herself from her father’s influence.

Synopsis ( and your spoiler free kdrama review)

The 2022 kdrama is centered around ordinary office worker Shin Ha Ri (Kim Sejeong - Today’s Webtoon, Uncanny Counter) who frequently helps best friend Jin Yeong Seo (Seol In Ah - Twinkling Watermelon, School 2017) evade blind dates set by her wealthy parents by pretending to be her.

Hijinks ensue when Yeong Seo’s latest date turns out to be the CEO of Ha Ri’s company, Kang Tae Mu (Ahn Hyo Seop - Dr Romantic 3, A Time Called You).

Tae Mu takes a liking to Ha Ri-masquerading-as-Yeong Seo and offers a dating contract so his grandfather would stop sending him on more blind dates. Meanwhile, the real Yeong Seo is falling in love with her mysterious neighbor, Cha Sung Hoon (Kim Min Gyu - Backstreet Rookie, The Heavenly Idol), who is none other than Tae Mu’s private secretary.

With a case of mistaken identity, fake dating complication, and heart-thumping feelings abound, these four characters spend the next 12 episodes trying to reach their happy ever after (spoiler alert: they did!)

Business Proposal Review with some (spoilers a little)

One thing this drama gets right that many modern kdrama rom coms don’t is its willingness to embrace the maturer aspect of relationships. Dating in kdrama is often portrayed as a juvenile act, with people in their 20s and 30s behaving like teens in their first relationship. Business Proposal’s romance is done right: the sexy scenes are smoldering and the couples have healthy communications. It’s probably thanks to the short episode counts necessitating swift conflict resolutions so thank goodness for that!

The script itself is based on popular webtoon The Office Blind Date.

Admittedly, the basic plot is pretty cliched from beginning to end: you’ve got the aforementioned kdrama tropes but also cash-strapped female lead, a rich grandpa obsessed with marrying off his grandson, a jealousy-inducing first love, and nosy but supportive friend group. However, the writing keeps things energized with its infusion of slapstick humor and comedic situations.

Paying homage to its webtoon roots, the editing adds lots of comical devices like split screens, sound effects, and animation in its narrative to build the drama’s cheerful atmosphere. Of course, the drama can’t really avoid implausible plot holes here and there.

For example, it’s hilarious how in the beginning, Tae Mu fails to recognize Ha Ri who works at his company simply because she doesn’t wear thick makeup.

You also have to check your brain at the door regarding the absurd situations the characters get themselves into. Thankfully, the sincerity of the performances and its brisk pace don’t let you dwell too much on these details.

Despite mostly being set in autumn/winter time, the cinematography bursts with bright spring colors, all pastels and warm lighting that enhance the lovey-dovey mood of the story.

One of my most favorite things about kdramas is the way the cinematography captures Seoul with a hazy soft focus and shallow depth of field that paint everything in a lovely cinematic visual.

It just makes you wanna book a ticket to Korea ASAP. All the frikking time! The lovely mood is further enhanced by the peppy soundtrack featuring cheery jazz pop track "Love, Maybe" by musician duo MeloMance and the guitar-heavy "Sweet" by Lee Mu Jin.

drunk Seol In-ah and Kim Se-jeong in businesss proposal

The strength of this drama lies in its core foursome. Individually, the characters are likable, with quirks and flaws that endear them to you. The two pairs of lovebirds – Ha Ri and Tae Mu, Yeong Seo and Sung Hoon – have equally great romantic chemistry that make their relationship progressions so enjoyable to watch.

Let’s start with the characters.

Ha Ri is an honest-to-goodness working girl who loves her job and her friend so much that she often sacrifices her own comfort for the sake of others. Sejeong imbues the character with dorky sensibility and innate comic timing that work great with the character’s goofier side.

In the hand of a lesser actor, Tae Mu’s character can easily fall flat because he’s the typical stone-faced chaebol heir with a cold personality. However, Hyo Seop plays him with warmth and again, a goofier side that never betrays his elegant characteristic. Despite playing the perfect embodiment of everyone’s ideal fantasy boyfriend, he’s never boring thanks to the actor’s animated facial expressions.

At first glance, Yeong Seo may come across as annoying given all the things she puts Ha Ri through. However, the two girls have a genuine sisterly/friendship bond that the show portrays to be equally important to the romance.

This depiction of their relationship really salvages her character because we see how she’s able to really be herself with Ha Ri and her family, unlike at home. She’s also shown to be an independent woman who’s working so hard to escape her parents’ shadows. Later, Yeong Seo’s sassiness plays out really well against her love interest, Sung Hoon.

The last of the foursome, Sung Hoon, is a surprise favorite of the drama.

Typically, the secretary and/or best friend character is only meant to be a foil for the main character. So it is really pleasant to find Sung Hoon getting his own love line and his own existence aside from being Tae Mu’s sidekick. Min Gyu, with his dimpled smile and broad shoulders, truly can go toe to toe with Hyo Seop any day of the week.

His demure bespectacled character’s romance with fiery Yeong Seo pops with unexpected sexiness. No wonder many viewers of the drama enjoy the second pairing’s story more than the main couple (though I personally enjoy both equally!)

Sejeong and Hyo Seop make an adorable pair with their easy chemistry. Her bubbliness juxtaposed with his cool demeanor is something you’ve seen a million times in romance but there’s a reason this formula works every time: it’s just fun to watch opposites attract.

But, the chemistry doesn’t only stop at the romances. This drama’s platonic relationship is one of the best depictions of sis-mance in kdrama.

Their scenes together are hilarious and brims with girlish joy. Even after the girls get together with their respective man, their friendship never falls by the wayside. In fact, it is often depicted as their priorities over their dating lives.

Final Thoughts

Business Proposal is proof that old formulas can still bring new excitement with the right cast, fresh visuals, and attentive writing. It may not offer anything ground-breaking in kdrama storyline but sometimes, all you need is some sweet cotton candy in between all the heavy meals.

'A Business Proposal' Ending Explained: Does Tae-moo marry Ha-ri? Will there be a Season 2?

Google Follow

What a rollercoaster ride it was as Go Food’s CEO Kang Tae-moo fell in love with his employee, Shin Ha-ri while his secretary, Cha Sung-hoon fell in love with his next-door neighbor who was “allegedly” far richer than he was, Jin Young-seo. Fans of SBS’ ‘A Business Proposal’ bid the K-drama a farewell after its final episode aired on April 5. While the dating scandal involving Kang Tae-moo in the show was confirmed to be fake in his own words, fans will miss watching new episodes of the Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Se Jeong show.

‘ A Business Proposal ’ was a mega success as its popularity brought extreme success for all of the cast members including Ahn Hyo-seop who played Kang Taemoo, Kim Se-jeong who played Shin Hari as well as Kim Min-gue, and Seol In-ah who played the side couple, Sunghoon and Youngseo respectively. With the show ending in only 12 episodes unlike the usual K-drama ending of 16 episodes, fans are left wanting more as they ask certain questions about the finale.

'A Business Proposal' Ending Explained: Does Tae-moo marry Ha-ri? Will there be a season 2?

'A Business Proposal': Ahn Hyo-seop sings a duet with Kim Se-jeong amid dating rumors

A Business Proposal Ending Explained

The show started with Shin Hari (played by Kim Sejeong ) disguising herself as Jin Youngseo, her rich best friend in order to save her from attending a blind date with Go Food’s young CEO, Kang Taemoo (played by Ahn Hyoseop). While Shin Hari tries to make the date a failure, Kang Taemoo is determined to marry her and eventually her disguise falters. Kang Taemoo realizes Shin Hari is his employee and eventually falls in love with her as they both set off to date. Kang Taemoo’s grandfather, Chairman Kang however is not happy about the initial lie and disapproves of Shin Hari as the future wife of Kang Taemoo.

In the final episode, we see that Chairman Kang is seriously ill and would need to undergo treatment in the US in order to recover. Kang Taemoo departs to the US as he and Shin Hari agree to continue their long-distance relationship. As a year passes by, she starts getting frustrated given the fact that he is always busy during their calls. One fine day, Hari decides to go to the states herself but turns out that the cab she was hailing for herself has Kang Taemoo who flew back to South Korea in order to propose to Hari with a ring. She ends up accepting his proposal and the show comes to an end.

What happened to Sung-hoon and Young-seo

The side couple of the show obviously stole the hearts of all fans. Their story started at a convenience store where both Cha Sunghoon (played by Kim Mingue) and Jin Youngseo (played by Seol Inah) fell in love at first sight. After she introduces herself to him, Sunghoon finally learns that Youngseo was the one who sent Hari for the blind date with his boss, Kang Taemoo. Sunghoon immediately draws the line and asks her to stop interacting with him despite the two being neighbors, they finally overcome their issues and start their romantic relationship.

Sunghoon eventually proposes to Youngseo after she finds a ring in the glove box of his car. Because Youngseo comes from a rich family and Sunghoon is a mere secretary, her father orders him to break up with Youngseo and part ways with her. Youngseo, who was with Sunghoon at that time ends up resigning from her father’s company and ending all relations with her father. Now with no monetary support from her father, Youngseo decides to start a new business by taking a loan from the bank.

Sunghoon shocks her as he hands Youngseo his bank passbook that reads he has saved up 1 billion won. Sunghoon asks to be her first investor instead of just giving the money to Youngseo. He then finally takes a year-long break from work with his boss, Kang Taemoo being in the US and spends the time planning his wedding with Youngseo.

Will there be a Season 2?

Fans are shocked that the show ended far too soon and Kang Taemoo only returned from the US in the final two minutes of the final episode of ‘A Business Proposal’. The show has been called a “comfort” drama after it ended with a nationwide rating of 11.4% for its final episode. While there is no official news about a second season just yet, fans are hopeful that ‘A Business Proposal’ gets a new season given that it was only 12 episodes long unlike regular 16-episode K-dramas.

7 Kdramas Like Business Proposal You Must See

Naman Shrestha of 7 Kdramas Like Business Proposal You Must See

Created by the trio of Park Seon-ho, Han Sul-hee, and Hong Bo-hui, ‘Business Proposal’ is a Korean romantic series that follows Ha-ri who goes on a blind date with Tae-moo, assuming the identity of her friend Young-seo. What makes this situation truly awkward is the fact that Tae-moo is the CEO of the organization where Ha-ri works. However, this coincidental encounter leads to the beginning of an office romance between the two.

The Korean drama portrays the funny aspects of having a romantic relationship with a coworker as well as the impediments that come along with it. The show is an embodiment of a true rom-com narrative as it mixes romance quite well with humor. If you enjoyed this Netflix series, you would be interested in watching some other K-dramas with similar themes. ‘Marriage, Not Dating’ is about Gong Gi-tae and Joo Jang-mi, who want two entirely different things. Just like ‘Business Proposal,’ the protagonist is forced to go on multiple blind dates to find the right partner for himself. Moreover, Jang-mi puts on the act of being Gi-tae’s girlfriend in front of his parents. So, the theme of pretense and fake identity potentially leading to romance is another common link between the two shows.

He comes down his high horse when his highly-reliable secretary Kim Mi-so gives in her resignation after working for him for nine years.

While Young-joon tries to do everything he can to keep Mi-so from leaving, he also forms an unusual bond with her as she tries to heal from the trauma she faced in her childhood. As time flies, Mi-so begins falling for the CEO. Much like ‘Business Proposal,’ ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim’ involves the male protagonist trying to convince the female protagonist to stay by his side. Therefore, both Tae-moo and Young-joon portray the perplexities that come along with having a romantic relationship with a coworker.

1. True Beauty (2020-21)

a business proposal kdrama

Based on the webtoon of the same name by Yaongyi, ‘True Beauty’ is centered upon a high-school girl named Lim Ju-kyung who gets bullied for her appearance. In an attempt to change the situation before she starts going to a new school, she watches make-up tutorial videos on the internet and masters the art. Transforming herself into a gorgeous girl, Ju-kyung hides her true appearance from everyone.

However, just like in ‘Business Proposal,’ it doesn’t take long for the male protagonist Lee Su-ho to find out the truth about who Ju-kyung really is. Moreover, in both the K-dramas, the protagonists don’t let the truth stop them from falling for their respective love interests.
