Solving Quadratic Equations Task Card Activity
This 20 Quadratic Equations Task Card resource is very unique. It can be utilized in a clue gathering, puzzle solving, highly active and engaging activity for those learning about Solving Quadratic Equations by various methods or as an alternative to worksheet review for older students. What I love to do is have the kids go through the activity for the first half or two thirds of our review period then spend the remainder of the time reviewing the questions as a class on the overhead projector. Do you use Math Workshops in your class? These would be perfect! Includes many word problems.
Please view the preview to gain a sense of how easily and effectively this resource could be incorporated into your Quadratics Unit.

Questions include solving Quadratics questions involving: – find the roots of an equation – solving word problems – converting to vertex form – writing the quadratic equation given the roots – determine the quadratic equation given the vertex and compression factor
1) Task card review game – lots of fun! – Students are placed in groups of two and have to work their way through the task cards. Each task card answer leads the student to a clue (a word). – Once the group has completed each task card they will have enough clues to solve the puzzle. – Once the group has solved the puzzle, they are the winner.
2) Typical task card review. – You can simply distribute the Task Cards to your class for individual, group or whole class review – The Task Cards can be projected on the board for whole class review – The cards work well as cue cards, test review, etc.
I also have other Task Card resources as well as a range assignments and lessons/units from other grade levels at my store. Please come, have a look around and don’t forget to follow if you like what you see.

Vertex Form of a Quadratic Card Sort Activity
Categories Quadratics , Algebra Activities & Resources , Card Sorts
I decided that a card sort was the perfect method to introduce my Algebra 2 students to the vertex form of a quadratic. My sweet husband even offered to create the card sort for me. He’s currently in grad school, and I think he misses creating classroom activities.
Students are given cards featuring six graphs of quadratics, six equations in vertex form, and six descriptions of the transformations needed to form the graph from the parent quadratic function.

PowerPoint Game On our Algebra 2 word wall there are factoring reminder posters that we reference throughout the unit. We also refer to our nonlinear graph references all year. Here is the one we use during our quadratics unit. We start by factoring binomials and trinomials where a=1.
There are 8 jumbo task cards with step-by-step guidance for using the quadratic formula: Step 1: Write the quadratic equation in standard form and identify A,B,C. Step 2: Substitute the A,B,C values. Step 3: Simplify and Split into 2 equations. 2 formats are included to meet varying teaching styles and student needs.
It's pretty straightforward to solve a linear equation like 2x + 5 = 11. You subtract 5 from both sides and divide by 2. Done. Unfortunately, quadratic equations are a little more complicated to solve. There are a few different methods you can use to solve them. You can solve a quadratic equation by graphing, factoring, or completing the square.
Quadratic Formula - SAMPLE Task Card Review Game Instructions - Students get into groups of 2 - Place task cards around the room randomly (i.e. # 1 shouldn't necessarily be near #2) - Assign each group a task card number as a starting point. Once they have completed that card, they move onto the next in numerical sequence.

The more you use the formula to solve quadratic equations, the more you become expert at it! Use the illustration below as a guide. Notice that in order to apply the quadratic formula, we must transform the quadratic equation into the standard form, that is, [latex]a{x^2} + bx + c = 0[/latex] where [latex]a \ne 0[/latex].
First step, make sure the equation is in the format from above, a x 2 + b x + c = 0 : x 2 + 4 x − 21 = 0 a is the coefficient in front of x 2 , so here a = 1 (note that a can't equal 0 -- the x 2 is what makes it a quadratic). b is the coefficient in front of the x , so here b = 4 . c is the constant, or the term without any x
