Civilization V Hotkeys and Shortcuts
Hotkeys/Keyboard Shortcuts can make a big difference in strategy games, especially in multiplayer, when you are short on time.
The same goes in case of Civilization V, you obviously can save time using the shortcuts rather than dragging your mouse for each move, which ultimately slows you down.
Do note that you may be able to change your keybinds by going into the Settings menu. Following is a list of Hotkeys/Shortcuts that can be used in Civilization V on PC:
General Hotkeys
General Unit Hotkeys Used to control General units in the game.
Action Hotkeys Used to perform actions on, or from any units in the game.
Air Unit Hotkeys Control units that fly/levitate in the air.
Civilian Unit Hotkeys Control units that are the fundamental of Civilization: Civilians.

Keyboard shortcuts for movement?
- Thread starter Grotius
- Start date Sep 18, 2010
- Sep 18, 2010
The manual lists a number of useful keyboard shortcuts, but I don't see anything indicating that we can use keys to move units from one tile to the next. I see there's a "move mode" shortcut, but in earlier Civ games there's usually been the option to move a unit with the Numpad keys. Is that gone now? Also, can we move among cities using the arrow keys, or do we have to click? I ask because I tend to be more prone to RSI from mousing than keyboarding.

The problems are: 1. Hexagons, which don't fit the numeric keyboard that good. 2. Notebooks, most of which don't have the numeric keyboard.
I seem to remember them saying that there were still keyboard shortcuts for movement.
The way hexes are in the game it'd have to be something like: -89 4-6 12 Which would be a tad confusing at first. I, for one, might restrict myself to mouse movement being a non-numerical laptop user.

One of the problems with move-shortcuts is an effect of the 1upt system. You cannot have a unit stop on the same tile as another unit. So if you moved one tile onto another unit, and then stopped, you wouldn't be able to deselect the unit until you moved it off that tile. Moving through another unit is often going to be necessary, so the mouse is the easiest solution to get around this problem. Only moves that are legal will be possible with the mouse, and using the keyboard for moves of distance 2 would be clumsy. I am fairly sure there aren't going to be keyboard shortcuts for movement. At least not yet. Doesn't bother me greatly, as I used the mouse exclusively (for movement) in civ4 anyway.
Jee, you might as well be playing on gameboy if you did that. Your description there reminded me exactly of Advance Wars.
I don't usually use the keyboard to move my units unless I'm playing one handed (eating or something) - so, no biggie to me. I usually use the mouse and during the exploration phase where there's lots of movement and next turns, I just hit ENTER on the numpad, which is right next to the mouse - less movement. I'm more distressed by the previous/next unit hotkeys (period and comma) and hope there are alterates or customizeable keybindings. I much prefer to keep my hand on my mouse and would rather use TAB and SHIFT+TAB to cycle/reverse cycle or anything that's nearer my left hand. Period and comma are hideous choices for those hotkeys (to me).
Hmm, sounds like no one knows for sure. Maybe I should ask over at 2K Games? It's not *that* big a deal to me; if I'm doing something important, I usually use the mouse in Civ anyway. But for routine moves, I like to use the keyboard to give my mouse-hand a break. I can understand the problem with laptop keyboards. I'd still hope we get some option for keyboard movement, though. Any combination of six keys, perhaps in two rows of three, would satisfy me. Failing that, I hope we get left-right arrows for scrolling through cities.
- Sep 19, 2010
Technically there shouldn't be a problem assigning 6 numpad keys to the 6 directions one can move. It will be a bit confusing because of the perspective at first... If it's not in the game by default, perhaps by demand there will be a patch.

741 963 makes some sense...but let me just point out that the keyboard layout on the QWERTY keyboard is somewhat "hexagonal" (the keys are square of course, but look closely). For example, if S is the center "hex", the keys touching "S" to any degree (at least on my keyboard) are W, E, A, D, Z, and X. (I suspect the reasoning for this is to make typing reach distances more equitable as well.)

Read the full decision in Trump's New York civil fraud case
By Graham Kates
Edited By Stefan Becket, Paula Cohen
Updated on: February 16, 2024 / 8:27 PM EST / CBS News
The judge overseeing the civil fraud case in New York against former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization has issued his long-awaited ruling , five weeks after the trial in the case concluded .
Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump and his company to pay $354 million in fines — a total that jumps to $453.5 million when pre-judgment interest is factored in. It also bars them from seeking loans from financial institutions in New York for a period of three years, and includes a three-year ban on Trump serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation.
Additional penalties were ordered for Trump's sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., who are executives at the company, and two former executives, Allen Weisselberg and Jeffrey McConney.
New York Attorney General Letitia James brought the civil suit in 2022, seeking a penalty that grew to $370 million and asking the judge to bar Trump from doing business in the state.
Judge Engoron had already ruled in September that Trump and the other defendants were liable for fraud , based on the evidence presented through pretrial filings.
The judge had largely affirmed James' allegations that Trump and others at his company had inflated valuations of his properties by hundreds of millions of dollars over a the course of a decade and misrepresented his wealth by billions in a scheme, the state said, intended to trick banks and insurers into offering more favorable deal terms.
Trump and his legal team long expected a defeat, with the former president decrying the case as "rigged" and a "sham" and his lawyers laying the groundwork for an appeal before the decision was even issued. He is expected to appeal.

Private lunar lander returns U.S. to the moon 50 years later. Here's what to know

The IM-1 Nova-C lander, from Houston-based Intuitive Machines, just became the first private spacecraft to land on the moon in one piece.
The U.S. just landed a commercial mission on the surface of the moon, nailing its first lunar landing in more than 50 years.
The robotic probe known as Odysseus successfully touched down near the lunar south pole at 6:23 p.m. ET on Thursday.
It's also the first spacecraft made by a private company to pull off a moon landing. The spacecraft, built by the Houston-based company Intuitive Machines, took off from Florida last week aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The IM-1 mission is one of several that NASA has purchased from private companies as part of its Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson hailed the feat as the "landing of a lifetime."
"Today is a day that shows the power and promise of NASA's commercial partnerships," he said.
The space agency is paying a fixed price of a little over $100 million for this mission — a relative bargain when it comes to space exploration. On board are several NASA experiments that will be used to study the environment around the lander and to develop some new technologies for future landings.
The historic landing wasn't without its hiccups.
While in orbit, Odysseus couldn't turn on a laser instrument designed to help it safely find its way to the lunar surface. An unexpected backup solution was on board: NASA called on its experimental, lidar-based rangefinder, that it hadn't planned on using to guide this landing.
A unexpected communications delay led to another tense moment within minutes of anticipated touchdown. When officials announced that they had reestablished contact with the spacecraft, Odysseus returned the good news.
"Houston, Odysseus has found a new home," IM-1 mission director Tim Crain declared on the NASA livestream after the landing was confirmed.

Odysseus landed near Malapert crater — a large crater near the moon's south pole. That location offers several advantages, says Brett Denevi, a planetary scientist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Landing sites near the south pole experience near-continuous sunlight, which can power a spacecraft's solar cells for longer; and some of south pole's dark craters are believed to be home to water in the form of ice.

"Water is important because you can split it apart into hydrogen and oxygen, so you have oxygen to breathe," she says. The two elements are "also components that you can use for rocket fuel."
"The ultimate goal of some of this is to use the moon's resources to enable exploration further out into the solar system," she says.
In latest lunar landing trial, Intuitive Machines hopes to get U.S. back to the moon
NASA hopes the CLPS program will help build a network of private suppliers that will allow the United States to once again land astronauts on the lunar surface. It wants commercial companies to scout out locations, land scientific instruments and rovers, and pave the way for human exploration.
But the Odysseus probe also includes several commercial payloads.
"They wanted to facilitate the commercial sector, and you can see that in action on this Intuitive Machines flight," says Chris Quilty, the co-CEO of Quilty Space, which analyzes the space business.

Among the commercial products on board is a space-age fabric from the sportswear manufacturer Columbia, a few pieces of private art and a small test of a system to securely back up data on the moon.
Data "is the most precious asset that we have as a technological civilization," says Chris Stott, founder and CEO of Lonestar Data Holdings, a Florida-based company that wants to build data centers on the lunar surface. "Do we keep it down here where we've got the wars, storms, weather, network intrusion issues ... or do we put it somewhere where there is no climate change? Where there is no atmosphere?"
Stott says his company has already successfully stored and retrieved a digital copy of the Declaration of Independence from the lander. He has future clients, including the state of Florida, looking to store several terabytes of data on the moon in a future mission.
Peregrine moon lander heads back toward Earth and should burn up in the atmosphere
Odysseus' ability to stick the landing was not a given. Privately funded lunar missions from Israel and Japan have both crashed in recent years, and another NASA-backed mission from the company Astrobotic fell back to Earth in January after suffering a fuel leak.
Even though Neil Armstrong and other astronauts landed perfectly on the moon in the 1960s and 1970s, lunar landings are still tough, according to Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory who closely follows spaceflight.
"We feel like it's a solved problem, but it's really still cutting-edge," McDowell says.
Robotic missions like Odysseus must automatically fly themselves down to the surface — they can't use parachutes because there's no air there.
Following Odysseus' autonomous landing, mission director Crain said, "What we can confirm, without a doubt, is our equipment is on the surface of the Moon and we are transmitting,"
