Applications are open for the NINJA Business Plan Competition 2020 in response to COVID-19 . The NINJA Business Plan Competition will target startups and organizations from 19 African countries. The application is open for startups/organizations in all sectors with a specific focus on emerging businesses in COVID-19-related fields including, but not limited to:

  • Health: Online healthcare support; disease-testing solutions; medical data sharing and privacy protection solutions; distribution of drugs and medical equipment; IoT, including 3D printers, in the medical field
  • Disaster management: Geo-tracking during disasters; emergency information dissemination
  • Business services: Support for remote workers; efficient management/operation of online events
  • Education sector: Remote learning support
  • Food and agriculture: Efficient food/commodity distribution technology
  • Finance: Contactless transactions/payment; lending/insurance services to SMEs and individuals
  • Logistics: delivery service, urban mobility management
  • Other: Substituting imported goods with local innovative technology
  • Winners from each country will be given a chance to sign a work contract with JICA for their innovation(s).
  • Winners will be eligible for equity/debt-free sum of up to USD $30,000 by JICA for covering costs associated with the proposed activities including remuneration of staffs, other expenses, and indirect local tax.
  • Winners may also get the opportunity to travel to Japan for further investments and business partnerships sponsored by JICA.

Eligibility

  • Open to organisations with their head office or a branch in one of the target countries. 
  • Profit/non-profit organisations registered as an independent legal entity. Proposals from individuals will not be considered.
  • Companies with a very strong management team of at least 2 people.
  • Businesses that have an innovative product(s) or service(s) in response or adaptable to the pandemic and post-pandemic society OR have a feasible business plan to create prototypes (MVP).

Eligible Countries

Angola, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia.

Selection criteria

  • The proposal should introduce some level of innovation in terms of a business model, a new product or service that can be more actively used, and/or profitability in the current and post COVID-19 era.
  • Proposals should be as commercially-oriented as possible.
  • JICA may establish an evaluation board with outside evaluators experts under strict confidentiality to evaluate proposals.
  • Each country will have 8 to 10 finalists out of which up to 5 winners will be selected.
  • Winners from each country will participate in the grand finale

When applying, each company is to submit a business plan with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that can be achieved within about 6 months.

Apply: NINJA Business Plan Competition in Response to COVID-19

The Japan International Cooperation Agency ( JICA ) has announced the launch of the NINJA ( Next Innovation with Japan) Business Plan Competition for businesses emerging during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The NINJA Business Plan Competition will target startups and organizations from 19 African countries .

The winners can get up to a maximum of $30,000 for 6 months of empirical surveys to verify whether the proposed business contributes to social issues.

The application is open for startups/organizations in all sectors with a specific focus on emerging businesses in COVID-19-related fields including, but not limited to:

-Health: Online healthcare support; disease-testing solutions; medical data sharing and privacy protection solutions; distribution of drugs and medical equipment; IoT, including 3D printers, in the medical field

-Disaster management: Geo-tracking during disasters; emergency information dissemination

-Business services: Support for remote workers; efficient management/operation of online events

-Education sector: Remote learning support

-Food and agriculture: Efficient food/commodity distribution technology

-Finance: Contactless transactions/payment; lending/insurance services to SMEs and individuals

-Logistics: delivery service, urban mobility management

-Other: Substituting imported goods with local innovative technology

Eligibility Criteria

To take part in JICA’s NINJA Business Plan Competition, startups must:

1.) Have their head office or a branch in one of the target countries.

2.) Be a profit/non-profit organization registered as an independent legal entity. Proposals from individuals will not be considered.

3.) Have a very strong management team of at least 2 people.

4.) Have an innovative product(s) or service(s) in response or adaptable to the Pandemic and post-pandemic society OR have a feasible business plan to create prototypes (MVP).

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is now accepting applications from startups and organizations in Africa for its 2020 NINJA Business Plan Competition . The deadline for the submission of applications is 29th July, 2020.

TARGET COUNTRIES

Angola, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia.

Applications from these countries will be accepted .

  • Application deadline:  July 29th, 2020  (First-come, first-reviewed base)
  • Interview of selected startups:  Mid to Late August 2020
  • Final selection: September 2020

Note: JICA will request the startups invited to be interviewed online to submit additional documents/a pitch deck if necessary.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

  • When applying, each company is to submit a business plan with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that can be achieved within about 6 months.
  • Before the contract, JICA will examine the details of the proposed activity and the validity of the budget (each expense item) and JICA may request the additional documents to determine the detailed activity in the contract.
  • After the contract is signed, startups/organizations must submit monthly reports about the KPIs to JICA. (The duration of the contract will be about 6 months.)
  • JICA will make payments based on the progress of the proposed activities and the submission of the progress reports and/or the expense report with receipt.
  • The payment schedule will be determined by JICA, and in principle, no advance payment at the commencement of the contract.

JICA puts emphasis on supporting to promote social stability, health care and to promote growing industries especially through agriculture in its cooperation in Cote d'Ivoire. Therefore, in Cote d'Ivoire, we welcome your applications especially in sectors of health, food and agriculture/finance/logistics.

For example, in food and agriculture/finance, a digital credit service to promote financial transactions in agricultural value chains or an efficient distribution technology to enhance information sharing on agricultural products could be of a great help to support agricultural actors in this COVID-19 crisis. Also, data tools for planning/management of community infrastructure and social services are highly wanted.

  • The proposal should introduce some level of innovation in terms of a business model, a new product or service that can be more actively used, and/or profitability in the current and post COVID-19 era.
  • Proposals should be as commercially-oriented as possible.
  • JICA may cover the budget of the activities up to USD 30,000. The use of proceed will cover costs associated with the proposed activities including, 1) remuneration of staffs, 2) other expenses, and 3) indirect local tax.
  • JICA's finance is not equity nor debt. And applicant will be required to sign the contract between respective JICA offices. However, successful applicants will be obliged to report the progress of their activities, by which JICA will make disbursement. Submission of accounting document and adjustment will be required upon the payment.
  • JICA may establish an evaluation board with outside evaluators experts under strict confidentiality to evaluate proposals.

Eligibility Criteria To take part in JICA's NINJA Business Plan Competition, startups must:

  • Have their head office or a branch in one of the target countries.
  • Be a profit/non-profit organization registered as an independent legal entity. Proposals from individuals will not be considered.
  • Have a very strong management team of at least 2 people.
  • Have innovative product(s) or service(s) in response or adoptable to the Pandemic and post-Pandemic society OR have a feasible business plan to create prototypes (MVP).
  • Develop and realize the proposed projects in Cote d'Ivoire.

Contract with JICA

Note: JICA will request the startups invited to be interviewed online to submit additional documents/a pitch deck if necessary.

  • When applying, each company is to submit a business plan with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that can be achieved within about 6 months.
  • Before the contract, JICA examines the details of the proposed activity and the validity of the budget (each expense item) and JICA may request the additional documents to determine the detailed activity in the contract.
  • After the contract is signed, startups/organizations must submit monthly reports about the KPIs to JICA. (The duration of the contract will be about 6 months.)
  • JICA will make payments based on the progress of the proposed activities and the submission of the progress reports and the expense report with receipt.
  • The payment schedule will be determined by JICA, and in principle, no advance payment at the commencement of the contract.

  • A final competition among the successful applicants from each country
  • Matching events to connect the successful applicants with investors/business partners
  • Visit to Japan, as a part of investment/business matching

Inviting Ugandan Startups for the Ninja Business Plan Competition (Up to $30,000 to be won)

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that coordinates official development assistance for the Japanese government in developing countries, has announced the launch of the  NINJA Business Plan Competition  for businesses emerging during the COVID-19 outbreak. NINJA is short for  Next Innovation with Japan .

The NINJA Business Plan Competition will target startups and organizations from  19 African countries . The application is open for startups/organizations in all sectors with a specific focus on emerging businesses in COVID-19-related fields including, but not limited to:

  • Health: Online healthcare support; disease-testing solutions; medical data sharing and privacy protection solutions; distribution of drugs and medical equipment; IoT, including 3D printers, in the medical field
  • Disaster management: Geo-tracking during disasters; emergency information dissemination
  • Business services: Support for remote workers; efficient management/operation of online events
  • Education sector: Remote learning support
  • Food and agriculture: Efficient food/commodity distribution technology
  • Finance: Contactless transactions/payment; lending/insurance services to SMEs and individuals
  • Logistics: delivery service, urban mobility management
  • Other: Substituting imported goods with local innovative technology

WHO CAN APPLY

  • Organisations with their head office or a branch in one of the target countries. 
  • Profit/non-profit organisations registered as an independent legal entity. Proposals from individuals will not be considered.
  • Companies with a very strong management team of at least 2 people.
  • Businesses that have an innovative product(s) or service(s) in response or adaptable to the Pandemic and post-pandemic society OR have a feasible business plan to create prototypes (MVP). Applicants must meet all criteria mentioned.
  • Winners from each country will be given a chance to sign a work contract with JICA for their innovation(s).
  • Winners will be eligible for equity/debt-free sum of upto  USD 30000  by JICA for covering costs associated with the proposed activities including, 1) remuneration of staffs, 2) other expenses, and 3) indirect local tax.
  • Winners may also get the opportunity to travel to Japan for further investments and business partnerships sponsored by JICA.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • The proposal should introduce some level of innovation in terms of a business model, a new product or service that can be more actively used, and/or profitability in the current and post COVID-19 era.
  • Proposals should be as commercially-oriented as possible.
  • JICA may establish an evaluation board with outside evaluators experts under strict confidentiality to evaluate proposals.
  • Each country will have 8 to 10 finalists out of which up to 5 winners will be selected.
  • Winners from each country will participate in the grand finale

TARGET COUNTRIES

Angola, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia. Applications from these countries will be accepted .

Indianapolis Children's Museum, Conner Prairie named among nation's best in USA TODAY poll

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis has been voted the best children's museum in the country , according to the USA TODAY/10Best's reader poll.

The Children's Museum, which touts its space as the largest of its kind in the world, was selected as a finalist by a panel of USA TODAY experts . Readers voted on the final winners from Jan. 15 through Feb. 12.

Fishers favorite Conner Prairie was also voted eighth-best open-air museum in the nation.

Indianapolis restaurants: These Indy eats, accommodations and attractions are ranked among the nation's best

Conner Prairie President and CEO Norman Burns said the museum was "elated" to be on the list.

"Using Indiana’s history to shine a light on our future, we are committed to bringing storytelling, science, art and nature together to change the way our guests experience and interact with museums," Burns said.

Both museums actively campaigned for votes through social media posts.

The Children's Museum recently opened a temporary exhibit based around the Disney/Pixar film "Inside Out " and will debut "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and Nelson Mandela exhibits later in the year.

Conner Prairie's winter exhibit will run through March 24. Its main indoor building has closed as part of a massive renovation plan , but some of the indoor activities have moved to other buildings.

The Children's Museum tickets and hours

Ticket prices vary based on day, and you can save up to 20% by buying at least two weeks in advance. See the home page for the museum's daily hours. Generally, hours vary by season. Visit childrensmuseum.org/visit/hours to see ticket prices and seasonal hours.

Conner Prairie tickets and hours

Visit connerprairie.org/plan/hours-and-admission for hours and ticket prices throughout the year. Through March 24, tickets are $14 for adults ages 13+, seniors and youth. Children under 2 get in free, and tickets are discounted $2 when purchased online.
