Our Comcast Business Internet review

Comcast Business Internet is widely available nationwide and gives you a wide range of cable-internet options. A Comcast Business Wi-Fi plan comes with unlimited data and 24-hour customer support, while the provider’s router includes a SecurityEdge feature that protects against cyberattacks and ransomware.

For additional fees, you can add special features like static IP addresses, cloud-based phone services, guest Wi-Fi or even a 4G LTE backup connection, which keeps your internet stable (and your business flowing) if your cable connection goes out.

Compare Comcast Business Internet plans and pricing

* Plans and prices vary by geographic region.

† for 12 months with 2-year agreement when you enroll in Auto Pay and Paperless Billing.

Prices for Comcast Business vary depending on the region you’re in—in some cases the differences between prices on the same plan are huge. For these prices, we used an address located in San Francisco, California.

Comcast Business Internet speeds: What’s best for you?

The 250Mbps download speeds of Business Internet Performance work best for most small businesses. But you’ll need a faster speed if you have five or more employees working in an office, or if you offer public Wi-Fi to customers.

The speed needs of a business vary depending on the size of your office and the number of people using the Wi-Fi. The more employees you have using Wi-Fi–connected computers and phones, the faster your speeds need to be.

You should also consider getting fast speeds if you regularly conduct business over the internet. The last thing you want is your company email or server to go down in the middle of a busy workday.

The best way to estimate how much speed you need is by counting the number of people in your office. Take a look at the table below for guidance.

How much speed does your business need?

Comcast business internet data caps.

Comcast Business Internet doesn’t have any data caps on its plans. Your employees can do all the work they want without hitting your business with overage charges. (They could even stream movies or TikTok if they wanted to—on their lunch breaks of course!)

Is Comcast Business Internet available where you live?

Enter your zip code below to see a listing of the top internet providers available in your area.

Our favorite plan: Business Internet Performance is the best bet for most small businesses. It’s fast enough to cover an office of around five employees and it comes with 24/7 customer support in case you have any technical hiccups during the work week. You get free professional installation when you order online, and the SecurityEdge feature (built into the router) scans for threats every 10 minutes.

Get a Visa prepaid card worth up to $800 when you order a qualifying Comcast Business Internet plan. You get an additional prepaid card worth $200 when you add Comcast Business Mobile.

Comcast Business Internet extra features

In addition to your Comcast Business Internet service, you can add on additional features to give your business a leg up against the competition.

Get a static IP address to run a server from your office

The most useful feature is a static IP address. An IP address is the code that internet providers, servers, and other websites use to identify your location for transferring data.

Most IP addresses are dynamic, meaning they change on a regular basis. But a static IP always stays the same, making it a lot more useful for businesses because it allows for hosting servers, having company email addresses, and running a VPN.

Choose Automatic 4G LTE backup for foolproof Wi-Fi connectivity

It’s no secret that many businesses today rely on the internet to survive. So if your internet fails, you may end up losing money if you aren’t able to process transactions, respond to emails, or conduct virtual meetings.

To keep this from happening, Comcast Business offers a 4G LTE backup connection that kicks in if your cable internet ever cuts out. 4G LTE internet isn’t as fast as cable, but it makes sure you and your employees can keep conducting business while your IT specialist gets your speedy cable internet back online.

Set up the Wi-Fi Pro portal to serve customers and build your brand

The Wi-Fi Portal Pro isn’t as integral to doing business as the other features mentioned above, but it’s still handy, especially if you’re a customer-facing business like a coffee shop or boutique. Wi-Fi Pro is an app-based platform that lets you set up different Wi-Fi networks for employees and guests. You can also build a custom website and monitor Wi-Fi traffic on your network.

Comcast Business Internet fees

Comcast Business charges the typical fees that you find on most internet plans. The modem and router costs just under $20 a month. You can skip that fee by buying your own equipment, but then you’ll miss out on the service’s security features. You also technically have to pay an installation fee, but the fee is waived when you order online.

The one standout here is the extra charge you have to pay if you opt for a contract-free plan. Comcast Business has fairly steep contract terms, lasting between one and three years depending on the plan you get. If you cancel your internet plan before the contract is up, you’re on the hook to pay $10 for every month you have left on your bill—a fee that could easily run up to hundreds of dollars.

You can waive the contract for an additional $10 or $20 extra per month, depending on the plan. But we’re not sure if there’s much benefit to this option, since you end up paying more than you should either way.

Comcast Business Internet installation, equipment, and contracts

Unlike many residential internet plans, Comcast Business Internet comes with term contracts and professional installation. Read on for the details.

Comcast Business installation and equipment

After you sign up for Comcast Business Internet, a rep at Comcast will contact you to arrange a time for a professional technician to come to your office and set up the internet. Professional installation usually costs a fee, but you can get it waived when you order online.

Your business service plan comes with a gateway (a combination modem and router), which you can rent for $19.95 per month. You can buy your own equipment to save money, but make sure the modem and router are compatible with Comcast’s network.

Comcast Business Internet contracts

Comcast Business has steep contract term agreements, ranging from one to three years depending on the plan you get. If you cancel your internet before the contract term is up, you have to pay $10 for every month still left on the bill.

Comcast Business Internet customer ratings

*Based on our annual customer satisfaction survey

Comcast Business got a below-average rating in J.D. Power’s most recent US Business Wireline Satisfaction Study, ranking behind Spectrum and Cox in overall satisfaction with a score of 842 out of 1,000. 1 However, Xfinity (Comcast’s residential internet brand) performed very well in our annual customer satisfaction survey . The provider got above-average rankings in our survey, ranking especially well for speed and reliability.

Xfinity delivers pretty much the same type of service as Comcast Business, with cable connections reaching up to 1.25 Gbps. So you can rest assured that you’ll have fast speeds and reliable service on a Comcast Business plan. However, Comcast Business has higher prices than Xfinity residential plans, with longer contract terms—and we suspect that may be the reason for Comcast’s lower scores in the JD Power study.

Comcast Business Internet vs. AT&T Internet for Business

AT&T beats out Comcast Business when it comes to business internet plans. The fiber provider has much faster speeds—including symmetrical upload speeds that you can’t get on a cable connection like Comcast’s. AT&T gets much better ratings in J.D. Power’s 2022 US Business Wireline Satisfaction Study, and its packages and add-ons cost less.

Comcast Business Internet vs. Spectrum Business

Like AT&T, Spectrum also has a leg up on Comcast Business. Although it has fewer plans to offer, Spectrum’s baseline plan gets you faster download speeds for the same price and also includes up to 25 email addresses and a custom domain. Spectrum also has fiber internet for enterprise customers in some areas. Other than that, both providers are similar, with 24/7 customer support and options to add on static IP addresses and 4G LTE backup.

Is Comcast Business Internet right for you?

Comcast Business is a great option for lots of small businesses. While it doesn’t have the fiber speeds of AT&T, Comcast’s cable connection is still fast and reliable, and its multiple speed tiers make it easy to upgrade if you need to accommodate a growing business. The SecurityEdge feature in the Comcast Business router keeps your network safe from threats, and the Wi-Fi Pro portal gives you tools to set up a guest public network and build your brand.

FAQ about Comcast Business Internet

What are the best routers for comcast business internet.

We recommend renting a router directly from Comcast Business—its SecurityEdge feature scans for threats every 10 minutes, keeping your company safe from malware and cyberattacks.

If you want to use your own router, though, we recommend TP-Link’s AX6600 , a powerful piece of equipment that ensures a wide range with its eight antennas while keeping your network protected with security scans and other safety features.

Our HighSpeedInternet.com editorial team bases our analyses on customer input from our annual customer satisfaction survey , results from our speed test tool , and proprietary internet provider data on speeds and pricing. To strengthen our research, we look closely at provider contracts to get hard-to-find information on price hikes, data caps, and extra fees, and we keep tabs on the latest news reports and online reviews. When applicable, we also rely on our personal experiences testing these services.

The Benefits of High-Speed Internet: How the Quality of Your Internet Service Can Grow Your Business

April 02, 2020

The Internet is an essential part of doing business, and every small business needs a reliable Internet connection to provide customers with the best service possible. Staying connected with clients and finishing tasks quickly can engender trust and loyalty. A weak WiFi signal or low-base Internet speed can hinder the growth of your business by creating unnecessary frustration and wasting employees’ (and customers’) time.

The benefits of high-speed Internet service are many. Fortunately, upgrading to a faster Internet is an easy fix. Keep these tips in mind when you choose a business WiFi service plan and learn how it can help you reach your business goals.

Increase bandwidth for better productivity

Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred across a connection. Different tasks require different amounts of bandwidth; for example, sending an email requires minimal bandwidth while high-definition video conferencing takes significantly more.

The router prioritizes traffic, so employees sending emails with large attachments or performing online research might experience a slowdown if the network diverts most of its resources to someone who’s uploading or downloading a large file or streaming a webinar. Look for a service plan that provides enough bandwidth to get the job done without slowing the overall network. The right plan will support multiple employees that need to work with videos or large file sizes. As your business grows and you add additional employees, you’ll never have to worry about whether your bandwidth can keep up.

Perform more complex tasks and accommodate more employees with higher Internet speeds When it comes to Internet speeds, most people think of the download rate. However, your upload speed also matters. Without sufficient upload speeds, you can't hold a proper video conference or Skype call. It will also take longer to upload larger files to your website or to make automatic data backups to protect your business. High-speed business Internet means you have better lines of communication with your customers and can keep up with the fast-paced world of business.

You may need different Internet speeds depending on how many employees you have, and, more importantly, the type of tasks they perform. If you don’t know how many Mbps (Megabits per second) you need, consult your Internet service provider. In general, companies with only a few employees who perform basic online tasks like email and Internet browsing can get by with a speed of 25 Mbps. For a company with several employees who need to run Web-based meetings, send large files, or stream video, a speed of 150 Mbps or more may be required for optimal performance.

If your business tasks require even faster speeds, Comcast Business offers a 1 Gbps (1,000 Mbps) connection for businesses that will guarantee you have more than enough bandwidth for whatever task you throw at it.

Forget data caps for access to better tools

You never know how much data you will need to upload or download in a particular month, and the last thing you need is to worry about it. If you have a plan with data caps, you might hesitate to upload an instructional video or other lead-generating tool because you are afraid of overage charges. Don’t let that fear keep you from growing your business! Instead, switch to a service plan that doesn't include data caps, so you are free to use as much of your data as you need. You can upload videos and other large data files with no fear of extra charges.

Use WiFi to gather valuable customer data

Certain service plans, like WiFi Pro from Comcast Business , include more advanced WiFi capabilities. These features allow you to limit the amount of bandwidth guests can use, create a landing page for guests to sign in (which can be a great tool to capture email addresses), and manage your overall network. These tools also allow you to monitor network traffic and optimize connection speeds, gathering valuable data that you can use to create a more personalized experience for your customers.

Upgrade the Internet service for your business to meet your needs

If you already have a business Internet plan but aren't sure your needs are being met, ask yourself a few questions:

  • How many employees do I have?
  • What kind of work does my business do online?
  • Do I provide complimentary WiFi access to customers?
  • How strong is my Internet speed? (If you aren't sure, use a speed test tool to find out.)

If your current service isn’t up to the task of meeting your needs, then it’s probably time to look into a new Internet service plan. Find out how Comcast Business can help.

Comcast Business also provides a pair of trunking devices that use private branch exchange (PBX) equipment to provide network access to multiple individuals at the same time.

Comcast offers four plans for business phones: two cloud-based phone services and two trunking options:

Comcast prides itself on running on one of the largest private VoIP networks in the country. It does not offer pricing upfront, but instead, allows you to request a quote online or by phone.

What Plans Does Comcast Offer?

Comcast Business offers two cloud-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business phone solutions along with a pair of trunking devices that provide support to your onsite or IP private branch exchange (PBX) equipment to provide network access to multiple individuals at the same time.

  • Voice Mobility: Features include calls at any location, a portable business number, hunt groups, and options to add voicemail or a toll-free number.
  • Business VoiceEdge: Features include calls at any location, unified digital control, multiple hunt group settings (simultaneous, regular, uniform, circular), automated attendant, audio conferencing, a productivity app, readable voicemail, and busy call appearance.
  • PRI Trunks: Features include 911 location management, simple digital control, disaster recovery and business continuity, and Integrated Access Device (IAD) PBX.
  • SIP Trunks: Features include 911 location management, up to 800 concurrent call sessions, Calling Name Delivery (CNAM), Dialed Number Information Service (DNIS), Automatic Number Identification (ANI), business continuity, and SIP gateway with Session Border Controller (SBC).

Voice Mobility is ideal for small retail operations, start-ups, and growing businesses, typically with one to 10 employees. It provides basic features, such as unlimited local calling, nationwide long distance, and directory listing. Business VoiceEdge is ideal for professional services, retail and manufacturing, and not-for-profit organizations. It includes a business app, along with a choice of phone hardware, and expands the feature selection from the more simplified Voice Mobility option.

PRI Trunks and SIP Trunks both include the basics: unlimited local calling minutes and 200 nationwide long-distance minutes, direct inward dialing (DID), direct outward dialing (DOD), and the ability to allow employees to make both DID and DOD calls without the need for a switchboard operator. PRI Trunks and SIP Trunks are both recommended by Comcast for corporate headquarters and large offices, organizations with customized business requirements, and single-site or multi-location enterprises.

Comcast emphasizes its reliability with all cloud-based services and trunking options, saying that they run over one of the largest managed VoIP networks in the nation. All service options offer the opportunity for customization with select features at an additional cost.

Comcast FAQs

Comcast Business offers 24/7 support for its products and services. Customers can access assistance via the “My Account” portal, dial a toll-free number, chat online with a customer service representative, or visit the Comcast Business Support Community.

Comcast integrates with Slack, and anybody with the Business VoiceEdge plan can use Slack to communicate with up to 50 people at the same time. Other popular integrations include Skype and Office365.

The Comcast Business App is available for Android and iOS smartphones and allows you to make and receive calls anywhere from any device using your primary business number. The app requires the purchase of a Business Voice Mobility or Business VoiceEdge plan.

Comcast Business doesn’t reveal its security features on its website and you may have to contact them directly for more information. Comcast does tout features such as call screening and the ability to block specific numbers, reject anonymous calls, trace offensive calls (law enforcement can access this information with the proper legal authorization, but you and your business will not), and password protection.

Comcast Business references the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) in some of its online materials focused on health care technology, but does not explicitly state that it is fully compliant with HIPAA regulations. For that reason, it’s best to request a consultation with the company before deciding if HIPAA compliance is critical to your business. HIPAA requires data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding patients’ protected medical information. It applies to doctor’s offices, hospitals, health insurers, and other health care companies with access to such data.

Comcast offers hardware for select plans. Currently, only Business VoiceEdge includes phones in its package. The other cloud-based phone service and trunking solutions offered through Comcast require you to bring your own phone. Business VoiceEdge also comes with its own private branch exchange (PBX) equipment to provide network access to multiple individuals at the same time.

  • For their VoiceEdge Select package, users can expect to pay $34.95 per month , per user. It's unlikely this number will change as the Select plan is only available to 8 users.
  • Comcast's VoiceEdge Business pricing is a bit more complex because it works on a tier system and it allows space for up to 5,000 users. Starting off, businesses can expect to pay monthly fees of $44.95 per user for 5-9 users, $39.95 for 10-19 users, and $34.95 per user for 20 users and more.

Interesting level of "Business Class" Service

4 internet outages within a week, on all occasions the comcast website is unable to communicate with the modem in order to issue a restart command during the outage. On all occasions rebooting the modem restores connectivity.

Yet comcast support says everything looks great I see no outages in your history, I would just wait for another outage then call us while you're down and we can look at your firewall or LAN possibly having a connectivity problem.

So probably wait on hold for 20 minutes to get someone and all while employees twittle there thumbs and customers can't get through.

That's an interesting level of business class support.

And an even more interesting monitoring system, their own system can't communicate or fully communicate with their own modem and that isn't monitored as an outage. Smart though, the fewer things you detect and classify as outages the better the uptime you can claim in your ads.

So somehow my Sonicwall and VOIP management appliance are both going haywire simultaneously and causing a disruption with their websites ability to communicate over coax with their own equipment?

Gotta love cable companies, they always have an answer for why it isn't there fault. It's the one common thread with cable service providers nationwide for as long as I can remember.

Same issues here all this summer. Never seem to fix it....its just your equipment.

We, too, are experiencing an increasing number of service outages, usually requiring a reset of the cable router.

I am assuming that there was some erroneous router firmware update applied that is causing the exceptional number of service outages.  A reset of the router restores service temporarily, however, it is an appalling level of quality for a business internet service.

I sent a detailed report of the most recent four outages about 10 hours ago via direct messaging as the support team always seems to request but have so far had no response.
