Legal Plan Contract

This is a contract between us, LegalZoom.com, Inc. ("LegalZoom") and you, (the "Primary Member"), for the Legal Plan services described below, including Business Advantage Pro and/or Legal Advantage Plus (sometimes described as Advisory Services and collectively referred to as the "Legal Plans"). In addition to the LegalZoom.com, Inc. ("LegalZoom")  Terms of Use , that govern your use of the LegalZoom website, and LegalZoom  Terms of Service , this contract (the "Agreement") constitutes a legal agreement between you and LegalZoom detailing the terms of your use of the Legal Plans. This Agreement is effective as of the date you accept its terms by purchasing a Legal Plan membership or accepting a free trial thereof (the "Effective Date"). If you sign up for a Legal Plan, you accept these terms, conditions, limitations, and requirements. Please read this Agreement carefully.  PLEASE NOTE - If you are using a 7-Day free trial, your trial membership is not subject to the payment or renewal terms enumerated in Section 8(a)-8(d) of this Agreement. Should you wish to continue membership in a Legal Plan following the expiration of a 7-Day free trial, you must enroll in a full membership by following the instructions provided in your confirmation email.   THE LEGAL PLANS ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR ACCOUNTING, BUSINESS, TAX, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVICE OR SERVICES.   1. Legal Plan Membership.  We reserve the right to accept or refuse membership in our discretion. You may not transfer or assign your Legal Plan or these benefits;  provided, however,  that a Business Advantage Pro Primary Member may extend coverage to his or her designated business, and a Legal Advantage Plus Primary Member may extend coverage to his or her Eligible Family Members (as defined below) (together with the Primary Member, each a "Plan Member" and collectively the "Plan Group"). The "Effective Date" for each Plan Member other than the Primary Member shall be the date on which the Primary Member elects to extend coverage to such Plan Member.

a. For the purposes of this Agreement, the term "Eligible Family Member" shall include:

(i) The Primary Member's spouse or domestic partner;

(ii) Any dependent who is under the age of 26;

(iii) Any dependent child, regardless of age, who is incapable of sustaining employment by reason of mental or physical disability; and

(iv) Any dependent individuals living in the Primary Member's home, such as a parent or grandparent.

Each Eligible Family Member to whom you extend coverage under this contract is bound by the terms of this contract.  2. Benefits of Legal Plans.  The Legal Plans provide the following benefits.

a. Membership in a Legal Plan provides the following benefits (collectively, the "Plan Benefits"):

(i) Telephone consultations with a participating firm (the "Firm"), during normal business hours, of up to one half (1/2) hour each, and up to one hour of time researching the topic of the consultation, limited to one consultation per Plan Group for each new legal matter. If the Firm determines after the initial consultation that a letter would be of further assistance to a Plan Member, such Firm, in its sole discretion, may provide, at no additional charge one letter of up to two (2) pages on the Plan Member's behalf. Telephone consultations may not include discussion of any of the following:

1. Tax-related matters;

2. Legal Advantage Plus Plan Members may not consult about matters related to any Plan Member's business. Business coverage is provided in the Business Advantage Pro membership.

(ii) Review by the Firm of legal documents of up to ten (10) pages, limited to review of one (1) document per Plan Group for each new legal matter. The Firm shall provide one (1) telephone consultation about the reviewed document, during normal business hours, and advise the Plan Member on any areas of concern and the legal implications of those provisions and their conformity to state and federal law. The Firm shall provide a written summary of such consultation.

(iii) Once during each membership year, the Primary Member shall be entitled to a legal check-up (the "Legal Check-Up"). The Legal Check-Up is intended to provide the Primary Member with an (a) assessment of his or her legal profile and recommendations based on significant issues or gaps or (b) update of a previous Legal Check-Up considering changes in life, circumstances, legal profile, and applicable law. The Legal Check-Up shall include a telephone consultation, during normal business hours, of up to one (1) hour to discuss the Primary Member's legal portfolio, potential updates over the previous year, and recommendations. The Firm shall provide a written summary of the consultation and any recommendations to the Primary Member's legal documents or strategies. The Legal Check-Up shall become available to a Primary Member only after six (6) months of membership in the Legal Plan;

(iv) If a Plan Member engages the Firm for services that are not included in the Plan Benefits described in subsections (c)(i) - (c)(iii) above, the Firm shall provide such legal services at a twenty-five (25%) discount from such Firm's standard rates for representation, as such rates are reported to LegalZoom;

(v) Nothing in the Legal Plans or this Agreement shall be construed to limit the right of a Plan Member to retain, at his or her own expense, an unaffiliated attorney. LegalZoom shall not be obligated to pay for any such services.

b. Please note that LegalZoom does not provide legal services. Attorneys made available through Legal Plans are third-party independent contractors who agree to provide legal services directly to you, not through LegalZoom, via a separate retention agreement between you and the attorney. Their contact information is provided as advertising. The attorneys have agreed to provide complimentary, thirty-minute consultations related to subject matters about which they represent that they are qualified in jurisdictions where they are admitted to practice. A conflict check will apply. They may require you to meet at their office or another location convenient to them or may require a telephonic consultation. LegalZoom will not select an attorney for you. LegalZoom makes no guarantees as to the substance of the attorney's advice.

3. Additional, Non-Legal Plan Benefits .

a. Separate from and in addition to the Plan Benefits defined above, customers who purchase the Business Advantage Pro plan may also receive a Business Advantage Standard subscription and the ability to use our website to file one LegalZoom Copyright per month (filing fees charged separately). If your purchase includes a Business Advantage Standard subscription, such subscription is governed by LegalZoom’s Supplemental Terms of Service for Subscriptions and Third Party Services .

b. Separate from and in addition to the Plan Benefits defined above, customers who purchase the Legal Advantage Plus plan may also receive a Continuing Coverage subscription. If your purchase includes a Business Advantage Standard subscription, such subscription is governed by LegalZoom’s Supplemental Terms of Service for Subscriptions and Third Party Services .

Subscriptions to Business Advantage Standard and Continuing Coverage are available for purchase separately, and are subject to LegalZoom’s Supplemental Terms of Service for Subscriptions and Third Party Services . LegalZoom Copyright is available for purchase separately. All are subject to LegalZoom’s Terms of Use and Terms of Service .

4. Exclusions; Conflicts.

a. The following items and matters are specifically excluded from the Legal Plans, and are not to be considered or treated as Plan Benefits:

(i) Any action that directly or indirectly involves LegalZoom.com, Inc. or any of its affiliates, directors, agents, or employees;

(ii) Any action that directly or indirectly involves any Firm providing legal services under the Legal Plans;  provided, however, that a Firm may, at its sole discretion and risk, represent a Plan Member in a matter in which another affiliated Firm is representing another party as legal counsel;

(iv) Any adversarial action by a Plan Member that directly or indirectly involves any other Plan Member in any Plan Group;

(v) Any action based on acts or occurrences that are alleged to have occurred or conditions that were reasonably anticipated or foreseeable before the Plan Member's enrollment that did or may give rise to a lawsuit by or against such Plan Member; provided, however,  that the Firm may, in its sole discretion and at its own risk, disregard this exclusion;

(vi) Any action that resulted in the prior recruitment or retention by the Plan Member of another attorney;  provided, however, that the Firm may, in its sole discretion and at its sole risk, disregard this exclusion;

(vii) Any matter involving the laws of jurisdictions outside of the United States or its subdivisions;

(viii) Any appeal to an appellate court (i.e., not a trial court);  provided, however,  that the Firm may, in its sole discretion and at its sole risk, disregard this exclusion;

(ix) Any matter that, in the Firm's opinion, is frivolous in nature or objective; or

(x) Any case matter or requested service that is determined by the Firm to lack sufficient merit to warrant pursuit, or that the Firm decides has been raised an inordinate or unreasonable number of times without a change in circumstances.

b. If the interests of the Primary Member of a Plan Group are adverse to those of another Plan Member in that same Plan Group, only the Primary Member is entitled to receive the applicable Plan Benefits.

5. Not Insurance.  The Legal Plans offered through LegalZoom are not contracts of insurance or indemnification insurance plans, and are not regulated as such. LegalZoom is not an insurance company and does not guarantee legal representation in every situation. The Legal Plans provide LegalZoom's customers with access to free and discounted legal services from member Firms. LegalZoom does not reimburse or indemnify any Plan Member or pay any Firm for attorney fees or expenses. LegalZoom makes no payments to Firms in Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts.  6. Use.

a. General Practices.

You acknowledge that LegalZoom may establish general practices and limits concerning use of its Legal Plans, including without limitation the maximum number of complimentary attorney consultations you may receive in a given period of time related to one or all subjects.

b. Right to Change Practices.

You acknowledge that LegalZoom reserves the right to change these general practices and limits at any time, in its sole discretion, with or without notice. However, you have the right to cancel your membership should we materially decrease benefits.

c. Responsibility for Misuse.

You are responsible for all expenses incurred or other actions that may occur through your use of a Legal Plan. You must immediately alert us of any fraudulent, unauthorized, illegal, or suspicious use of a Legal Plan, or any other breach of security or unauthorized or illegal activity that you reasonably suspect.

7. Authority to Enter Agreement.  If you are entering into this Agreement on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have the legal authority to bind such entity to these terms, in which case the terms "you" or "your" shall refer to such entity. If you do not have such authority or if you do not agree with this Agreement, you may not sign up for or use any Legal Plan. If after your purchase we find that you do not have authority to bind the entity for which you ordered, you will be personally responsible for the obligations in this Agreement and the order you placed, including without limitation, the payment obligations. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from our reliance on any instruction, notice, document or communication, reasonably believed by us to be genuine and originating from an authorized representative of your company. If there is reasonable doubt about the authenticity of any such instruction, notice, document, or communication, we may, but are not obliged to, require additional authentication from you.  8. Payment.

a. Legal Plan Membership Fees.

You will be charged in accordance with the billing terms in effect at the time of your initial purchase, unless you are notified of a fee change in accordance with "Fee Adjustments" below. For any Legal Plan you purchase that is charged in full upon purchase, you agree that for each renewal term for such Legal Plan, the amount due for the next term will be due and immediately payable in full as of the first day of that renewed term. For each Legal Plan, your charge remains for each term no matter if you access the Site during that term. In other words,  EVEN IF YOU DO NOT USE THE LEGAL PLAN BENEFITS OR SPEAK WITH AN ATTORNEY, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PLAN MEMBERSHIP FEES UNTIL YOU CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP OR IT IS OTHERWISE TERMINATED.  For more information regarding canceling your Legal Plan subscription, see the "Termination or Cancellation" section below.

b. Billing.

To allow payment for the initial term of a Legal Plan, valid credit card information is due at the time of purchase.

If you have purchased an automatic renewing plan from LegalZoom, your Legal Plan subscription will renew automatically at the end of the initial term (the "Billing Date") and at the end of each term thereafter unless and until you give notice of your intention to terminate your Legal Plan subscription pursuant to the terms of this Agreement. If you do not give us notice of such intention, your credit card will be charged for the renewal term of your Legal Plan subscription on your Billing Date. If your purchase date is on the 29th through 31st day of any month, your Billing Date for renewals in months with fewer days will fall on the last day of the month. LegalZoom may adjust your Billing Date in subsequent renewal periods without notice. This will be reflected by a charge to your account on a pro-rated basis according to the number of days that have passed since the Billing Date of your latest renewal charge. Unless otherwise notified in advance by LegalZoom pursuant to this Agreement, the renewal charge will be equal to the original purchase price for the Legal Plan

You agree to pay LegalZoom the fees associated with your Legal Plan subscription. Additional discounts may be available for members purchasing multiple months up front, as part of certain promotions which may include additional terms and conditions presented with the offer, or where limited by law. A schedule of fees for the Legal Plan subscriptions is set forth below:

Business Advantage Pro membership: $29.99 per month

Legal Advantage Plus membership: $14.99 per month

c. Notice of Automatic Renewal.

If applicable, we will send a reminder email to the email address of record for your account approximately one week before your Billing Date. You acknowledge and agree that this notice is provided as a courtesy only, and we are not obligated or required to provide such notice. You acknowledge and agree that (i) your failure to read, (ii) inability to receive, or (iii) the failure of LegalZoom to send the email does not create any liability on the part of LegalZoom or any third-party service provider.

d. Promotional Trial Memberships.

We sometimes offer certain customers various trial or other promotional memberships, which are subject to this Agreement except as otherwise stated in the promotional offers.  AT THE COMPLETION OF A TRIAL MEMBERSHIP, UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO CANCEL BY CALLING 877-657-8787, YOUR LEGAL PLAN MEMBERSHIP WILL RENEW AUTOMATICALLY AND YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL BE CHARGED TO BEGIN YOUR INITIAL TERM.

e. Attorney Fees.

Fees for non-complimentary attorney services provided pursuant to a Legal Plan membership shall be paid directly to the providing Firms. Participating Firms and attorneys are not employees or agents of LegalZoom, and have no financial obligation to LegalZoom.

9. Fee Adjustments.  LegalZoom may increase its fees for any Legal Plan membership effective the first day of a renewal term by giving you notice of the new fees at least thirty (30) days before the beginning of the renewal term. If you do not cancel your membership pursuant to Section 11, you shall be deemed to have accepted the new fee for that renewal term and any subsequent renewal terms (unless the fees are increased in the same manner for a subsequent renewal term). Reductions in fees become effective on the next renewal term without any pro rata for the period covered under the prior fee schedule.

10. Termination or Cancellation.

a. By LegalZoom.

(i) If payment is not made on the Billing Date, as described in Section 8 above, you will have until the one (1) month anniversary of your Billing Date (in Texas and Massachusetts, this grace period will be thirty-one (31) days) to correct the credit card information on file and post a payment to your account. If after the expiration of this grace period you have not made any payment on your Legal Plan membership, your non-payment may result in suspension of service and subsequent termination of your Legal Plan membership.

(ii) Your right to use a Legal Plan membership is subject to any limits established by LegalZoom or by your credit card issuer. If payment cannot be charged to your credit card or your charge is returned for any reason, including through a chargeback, LegalZoom reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to suspend or terminate your access and account, thereby terminating this Agreement and all obligations of LegalZoom hereunder. If a charge made to your credit card is declined, LegalZoom may make up to five (5) attempts to bill that card over a thirty (30) day period.

(iii) If you wish to reactivate your account after such termination, there will be no setup or reactivation fees;  provided, however, accounts terminated for non-payment will be reactivated only on receipt of the full amount past due and a written request to reinstate the account. When an expired account is reactivated, the new term begins on the date of reactivation.

b. By Subscriber.

(i) After you have received this Agreement in your Member Center, you have ten (10) days in which to examine it. If during this period you decide that you are not satisfied with the Agreement, you may return the Agreement to us and have any prepaid amounts refunded. If the Agreement is returned and you have not sought legal services pursuant hereto within this time period, the Agreement shall be void from the beginning and the parties shall be in the same position as if this Agreement had not been issued.

(ii) You will have the right to cancel your Legal Plan membership by calling our Customer Care Center at (800) 773-0888 or by cancelling online through the "My Account" portal. After such cancellation, your Legal Plan will remain active until the end of then-applicable period.

c. Services after Termination.

After termination of your Legal Plan membership, either by you or by LegalZoom, you will not be able to access the corresponding Legal Plan offerings;  provided, however,  that any access rights to a Legal Plan granted you through a separate channel (e.g., through another Legal Plan membership) will remain in full force and effect unless and until separately terminated or cancelled.

11. Dispute Resolution.  The parties agree to arbitrate all disputes and claims pursuant to the  Terms of Service  of LegalZoom.com. A Plan Member has the right to file a complaint with his or her state's bar association concerning the conduct of an affiliated attorney under the Legal Plan.  12. Professional, Independent Attorney Judgment.  Attorneys performing legal services for Legal Plan Members under the terms of this Agreement are not agents or employees of LegalZoom. Any attorney rendering legal services to Plan Members under a Legal Plan shall maintain the attorney-client relationship with the Plan Member, and is solely responsible to the Plan Member for all legal services provided. It is within the sole discretion of the attorney to determine whether claims or defenses pertaining to any matter under this Agreement present a frivolous or otherwise unmeritorious claim or defense. Participating attorneys reserve the right to make independent professional judgments regarding such presentations. LegalZoom will in no way influence or attempt to affect the rendering of professional services of the participating attorneys.  13. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Circular 230 Tax Advice Disclosure.  To ensure compliance with requirements imposed by the IRS under Circular 230, we inform you that any U.S. federal tax advice contained in any communication from LegalZoom (including information provided by a Firm or an attorney offering a free consultation) is and was not intended or written to be used, and cannot be used, for the purpose of (1) avoiding penalties under the Internal Revenue Code or (2) promoting, marketing, or recommending to another party any matters addressed therein.

14. Non-English-Speaking Customers . Non-English translations of these Terms, as well as other terms, conditions, and policies, are provided for convenience only. In the event of any ambiguity or conflict between translations, the English version is authoritative and controls.

LegalZoom Legal Services Review

  • The Best Resources for Business Compliance

Last Updated: June 30, 2023 By TRUiC Team

Looking for online legal services, but not sure where to start? Finding a service that fits the bill can be challenging, especially since there aren’t many options available.

With nearly 4 million customers served and counting, LegalZoom deserves a look. They’re a “household name” in the industry without a doubt.

In this LegalZoom legal services review, we’ll examine some of their pros and cons, pricing, features, customer reviews and more. In a few minutes, you’ll know if LegalZoom is the right way to go, or if you should look into other options. Enjoy!

Some Pros & Cons of LegalZoom

Pros of legalzoom.

  • LegalZoom offers a money-back guarantee at any time within 60 days of purchase. Most other online legal services offer trial periods, but few this long.
  • Few competitors can match their experience. They’ve helped 3.6 million customers since opening their doors in 2001.
  • They provide access to tax professionals and an annual business evaluation by a lawyer, two features most online legal services don’t offer.
  • With LegalZoom’s Business Legal plan, you get one copyright registration per month included in your subscription. From books to photographs, you’d be surprised how many creative works are covered.
  • Starting at $31.25/mo for business customers, their rates are lower than most competitors offering comprehensive online legal services.
  • Their customer service is easy to reach by phone, and US-based agents are available from 8am-10pm ET Monday through Friday, 10am-7pm ET on weekends.

Cons of LegalZoom

  • Their customer feedback is hit and miss. On SiteJabber they average a 3.1 rating out of 5. More than half of their reviews are perfect 5-star scores, but there’s plenty of criticism to be found as well.
  • As is often the case with large companies, their customer service is a bit inconsistent. Some people have great experiences with their reps, while others feel like they’re getting the run around.
  • Reviewing documents longer than 10 pages with an attorney can get expensive. Each one will result in an upcharge of at least $39, although documents that exceed 25 pages will cost you into the hundreds.

Based on everything we’ve run through, I’d give LegalZoom ’s legal services a 4.4 out of 5. I think it's worth considering if you need access to legal documents and attorney help - while on a budget.

LegalZoom Pricing & Features

LegalZoom opts for a streamlined and simple approach to packaging, so there’s only one package available for their legal services. That being said, there are discounts available depending on payment plans.

Business Advisory Plan = $36-$31.25/mo

With the LegalZoom Business Advisory Plan, you get a ton of features for your money. In addition to the items listed in the screenshot below, you receive one copyright registration per month, as well as subscriber rates for other services like incorporation and registered agent.

Legalzoom Plans

Plus, If you hire any attorney from LegalZoom’s network, you will receive a 25% discount off of their total legal fees. As we mentioned earlier, document reviews exceeding 10 pages can get costly in a hurry.

  • 11-15 page documents: $39
  • 16-25 page documents: $99
  • 26+ page documents: Price varies by attorney

You don’t need us to tell you LegalZoom can get expensive if you need lots of document reviews, so make sure to factor that into your decision.

Customer Reviews

LegalZoom is a household name, and has the reviews to show for it. The company itself has hundreds of reviews for their Incorporation services. But since they divide their reviews by service, I’ve included their Legal Services reviews so you can get an up close look at what customers are saying about the service itself.

Customer reviews as of 9-11-2017:
  • Consumer Affairs: 3.2/5, 40 votes
  • Sitejabber.com: 3.2/5, 607 reviews
  • TrustPilot: 4.1/10, 10 reviews
  • LegalZoom (Legal Service Specific): 4.5/5, 457

Aside from the LegalZoom reviews, there are reviews on other sites that raised some pretty legitimate concerns. The complaint that I saw most frequently was that the customer service was either really hard to get a hold of, or evasive when it came to answering direct questions.

Having said that, they do still have a pretty large volume of 5 star reviews, especially about their legal services. The market for this type of product is also pretty small online, so it’s clear that customers are pleased to have this service available.

How LegalZoom Compares

LegalZoom is a great choice to provide you with top online legal services because they offer comprehensive legal assistance, and their experience and longevity are tough to beat. Still, let’s briefly look at Rocket Lawyer for a well-rounded comparison of pricing, features and more.

Pricing: LegalZoom offers one package at $36/mo, while Rocket Lawyer’s packaging starts at $39.95 and offers an additional package for $49.95. I’ll get into which one is a better value in just a bit, but if we’re only talking about price, LegalZoom is a smidge cheaper.

Features: Now Rocket Lawyer and LegalZoom work a little bit different. Rocket Lawyer is a templating service and a legal resource in one, while this package from LegalZoom offers the legal resource alone. So, while the Rocket Lawyer packages are a little bit more per month, they offer a two in one service that LegalZoom doesn’t have available.

Customer Service: Looking at what customers are saying, LegalZoom has experienced issues handling customer service needs. They offer email and phone support for customers, along with the support you would receive from their on-call attorneys. Rocket Lawyer on the other hand offers email, phone and livechat support, and when we looked through Rocket Lawyer’s customer reviews noticed that most customers (for the most part) appreciated the service they offered.

Number of Businesses Served: Both of these companies have served millions of users and those numbers continue to grow. But if we’re looking at numbers alone, Rocket Lawyer wins out. LegalZoom has served over 4 million, while Rocket Lawyer serves over 20 million.

Pricing Starts at $31.25/month

4 million+ customers so far

Perfect for: Anyone wanting a simple, customizable legal forms & an option to enlist a qualified attorney

Rocket Lawyer

Pricing Starts at $39.95/month

20 million+ customers so far

Perfect for: Anyone wanting a suite of online legal services, legal documents & easy 'Ask a Lawyer' feature

Frequently Asked Questions

Does legalzoom have a free trial.

No, not technically, but they have a 60-day money back guarantee. At any point within two months of purchase, simply request a refund and they’ll return any fees paid to LegalZoom. Some competitors only offer a one-week trial!

How Accessible Is Their Customer Service?

LegalZoom has longer phone support hours than anyone else in the industry. They’re available every weekday from 8am-10pm ET, and every weekend from 10am-7pm ET. That being said, they have had issues with providing adequate customer service to users in the past. This isn’t a universal experience by any means, but it’s something you should take into consideration before deciding.

Are There Any Extra Features Included?

LegalZoom includes access to tax professionals with their online legal services, as well as one copyright registration per month. Those are features you won’t find with many of their competitors.

Should You Use LegalZoom?

Based on everything we’ve run through, I’d give LegalZoom ’s legal services a 4.4 out of 5. I think it's worth considering if you need access to legal documents and attorney help - while on a budget. That being said, if this doesn’t sound like your perfect fit, check out our  Best Online Legal Services for Business . Cheers!

LegalZoom Compared to The Best Online Legal Services

LegalZoom has some of the most versatile service offerings in the online legal services space. Whether you want to form a business, protect your intellectual property, or need family law advice, LegalZoom can help.

For all these reasons and more, we included LegalZoom in our list of best online legal services . Here are our top picks:

  • Rocket Lawyer  – Best for most
  • Incfile  – Best for business formation
  • LegalZoom  – Best for flat fees and versatility
  • UpCounsel  – Best for complex legal needs
  • Avvo  – Best for free legal advice
  • LegalMatch  – Best for locating an attorney near you

LegalZoom: The Good and The Bad

LegalZoom is one of the top providers of online legal services. It has a lot to offer prospective customers. But even the best providers have areas in which they could improve. We’re going to take a look at the pros and cons of LegalZoom’s offerings to help you decide whether it’s the right solution for your business.

Industry Experience : LegalZoom has been leading the online legal services industry for over 20 years. In that time, it’s helped over 2 million entrepreneurs and small business owners turn their dreams of forming their own company into a reality. With this level of experience, you can rest assured that your business’s legal needs are in extremely capable hands.

Diverse Range of Legal Services: If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop for personal, professional, and business legal needs, LegalZoom is the one for you. It offers the most versatile range of service offerings in the industry. From business formation to intellectual property protection, and registered agent services to tax contracts and agreements, LegalZoom has got you covered. You’ll have all the services you need to start and maintain your business at your fingertips when you have LegalZoom on your side.

Affordable Business Advisory Plan: LegalZoom’s Business Advisory Plan offers business owners convenient access to year-round attorney help, for an affordable, flat monthly fee. This plan is perfect for anyone needing regular assistance with contracts and agreements, legal forms and copyrights, or just general legal advice to help protect your business. It’s far more cost-effective than constantly using LegalZoom’s one-off services and it’s also one of the least expensive plans on the market.

Great Customer Support: In the past, reviews on LegalZoom’s customer support have suggested the quality of support was inconsistent and disappointing. However, in recent times, it seems as though they’ve stepped it up a notch. Current customers consistently report excellent customer support, often commending their support representative by name. The support team is friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable – exactly what you want in a support crew.

Extended Customer Support Hours: Aside from the quality of customer support being great, LegalZoom also extends generous support contact hours in comparison to its competitors. You can contact LegalZoom’s support team on all seven days of the week! The US-based support team is available via phone, email, and live chat from 5am to 7pm (PT) Monday through Friday and from 7am to 4pm on weekends.

Lengthy Satisfaction Guarantee Period: While many providers in the online legal service space offer some sort of satisfaction guarantee, nearly none of them give you two months to leverage the offer. If you’re unsatisfied with LegalZoom’s services (with the scope of their duties) they’ll correct the situation or provide a 100% refund on its services, no questions asked.

It’s great to see that LegalZoom stands behind its services like this. After all, they wouldn’t be offering a full refund for so many offerings if they expected most people to take advantage of it. But if you’re not happy, just check the LZ Guarantee terms to confirm eligibility and specific conditions for the services you’re using.

Screenshot of the LZ Guarantee badge, with a short description of LegalZoom's promise

Knowledge of Local Laws: When you access LegalZoom’s services, you can trust they will fit your location in the United States. LegalZoom operates legally in all 50 states, and it has documents that fit individual state laws. Even though LegalZoom operates nationally, it makes use of local attorneys that can ensure you are following local regulations and laws. Laws for forming an LLC vary from state to state, so it is extremely important for LegalZoom to operate in this manner.

Not the Cheapest Service Available: LegalZoom is not the cheapest provider out there, but they certainly aren’t the most expensive either. All of their one-off services are priced on the higher side. For example, the lead-in business formation package starts at $0 plus state fees and it doesn’t really include any advanced or impressive features. In saying that, you are paying for the service of an extremely trustworthy and experienced provider, which is worth a little extra in our books.

Excessive Upsells: In the instance that you’d like to form your business with LegalZoom, you’ll face a series of upsells before you reach the package selection screen. We went through the process and found it quite cumbersome. In fact, the process even assumes that you’ll utilize LegalZooms registered agent service, without providing clear advice on the costs involved. Furthermore, some of the upsells such as an operating agreement and EIN are things that other providers already include in their packages.

A screenshot of LegalZoom's product page for registered agent services, including the pricing of $249 per year.

Expensive Registered Agent Services: LegalZoom’s registered agent services are some of the most expensive options in the market, at $249 per year. In comparison, most competitors offer registered agent services for around $150 per year, with some even dipping as low as $100. Furthermore, providers such as Incfile and ZenBusiness include registered agent services for free for your first year of business.

Slow Turnaround Time: LegalZoom’s business formation turnaround times are quite slow in comparison to its competitors. Other providers out there will process your paperwork on the same day or the next business day. But LegalZoom’s standard processing time is five to 14 days. You’ll have to pay a $99 expedited filing fee for one-day processing in states where this option is even available.

LegalZoom Pricing and Options

LegalZoom offers a wide range of online legal services. The starting rates for LegalZoom’s business formation services are:

  • LLC formation: $0 plus state filing fees
  • Corporation formation: $149 plus state filing fees
  • Registered agent services: $249 per year

These prices certainly aren’t the highest in the industry. But when you take a closer look at the features you’re getting for your money, they don’t offer particularly high value, especially for forming a simple LLC .

For example, the lead-in formation packages include basic features such as comprehensive name search and paperwork filing, online order tracker, lifetime customer support, and digital access to formation documents. In other words, they include the bare minimum.

On the other hand, LegalZoom offers businesses that require ongoing legal assistance affordable access to their Business Advisory Plan. For a flat monthly fee, you’ll have direct access to an attorney to assist with reviewing contracts and agreements, personalized legal advice, and access to dozens of legal forms.

Pricing for the Business Advisory Plan is $39.09 per month over 12 months or $43.17 per month over 6 months.

LegalZoom Business Advisory plans with option for 12-month or 6-month billing cycles

We’ll expand on the pricing of each one-off service further below, but the key takeaway here is that if you’re looking for the cheapest online legal service provider out there, LegalZoom isn’t the best option for you.

But if you are looking for an experienced and reliable provider that offers excellent customer support and can help you with just about any legal need, LegalZoom is a fantastic option.

LegalZoom LLC Services

In terms of experience, LegalZoom is an industry leader in the LLC formation space, helping more than two million businesses form an LLC.

LegalZoom makes it easy for anyone to get started. The process is super simple and the packages are affordable. Starting your business is as easy as:

  • Telling LegalZoom all about your business
  • Selecting your preferred business formation package
  • Sitting back and relaxing while LegalZoom takes care of preparing and filing your paperwork

LegalZoom LLC formation landing page

You can also use LegalZoom’s free business name availability checker to make sure your preferred business name is available. If you haven’t decided yet, you can skip this step and come back to it later.

There are three different LLC formation plans to choose from:

  • Basic – $0 plus state filing fees
  • Pro – $249 plus state filing fees
  • Premium – $299 plus state filing fees

The Basic package includes your Articles of Organization and name check service.

Paid plans come with an operating agreement, EIN, business license guide, and phone consultations to guide you through the process. Attorney-assisted help is available if you sign up for the Premium LLC formation package.

Regardless of the plan you select, LegalZoom will try to upsell you throughout the checkout process. Truthfully, you don’t need many of these products, so if you want to bootstrap your business formation, skip these offerings. You can always add them in later.

LegalZoom Incorporation Services

LegalZoom is also a popular option for businesses that are looking to incorporate. It helps businesses to form a C Corporation or an S Corporation.

If you’re not sure which option is most suitable for your needs, LegalZoom’s support team is available to offer personalized advice.

legalzoom business advisory plan

Incorporating your business with LegalZoom is just as simple as forming an LLC. You’ll answer LegalZoom’s questions about your business, choose your package option, and LegalZoom will take care of the rest.

LegalZoom’s incorporation packages and pricing are:

  • Economy: $149 plus state fees
  • Standard: $329 plus state fees
  • Express Gold: $349 plus state fees

All plans include business name availability check, incorporation documents and filing, articles of incorporation, and lifetime customer support. They also include a “next steps guide” and peace of mind review. The Standard and Express Gold incorporation packages also include a deluxe organizer, official certificates and seal, and expedited processing.

If you’re willing to pay for the Standard plan, you may as well go ahead and pay the extra $20 for the Express Gold package to also receive rush processing with the Secretary of State and express shipping.

Once again, the main difference between the three plans is the turnaround time. If you’re not in a rush to form your corporation, the Economy plan with its 30-day turnaround will suffice. But if you are pressed for time, go for the Express Gold package for fast processing.

Form your corporation with LegalZoom today!

LegalZoom Registered Agent Services

There are no two ways about it–every business needs a registered agent.

Registered agents handle the acceptance of official mail on behalf of your business. This can include things like court documents (if you get served), official state mail, state tax notifications, secretary of state notifications, and annual report notices.

In other words, they help your business to remain compliant and make sure you never miss important filing deadlines.

A screenshot of a LegaLZoom webpage, listing the three main reasons to secure a registered agent and the three steps to their process for securing one.

LegalZoom’s registered agent services start from $249 per year and also include:

  • $1 million identity theft protection and credit monitoring
  • Unlimited cloud storage for important business documents
  • Access to compliance calendar with upcoming critical deadlines
  • Coverage of paperwork and fees when switching from a competing RA

It makes sense to use the same service provider to handle your business formation and registered agent needs to keep everything in place.

But if you’re looking for standalone registered agent services , you’ll find cheaper packages elsewhere.

LegalZoom Trademark Search Services

If you’re interested in filing a trademark for your business name or logo, you can use LegalZoom’s trademark search to verify the availability before you apply. This will help you avoid any potential violations, saving you time and money before you officially apply for your trademark.

The process is fairly straightforward and typically can be completed in under 15 minutes. Simply fill out the required forms to tell LegalZoom about your search, and they’ll run a report to see if your mark conflicts with any existing trademarks or pending trademarks. Based on the results of the search, you can decide whether or not to proceed with filing your trademark or if you want to try another option.

LegalZoom's trademark search page showing a woman in a blue shirt holding a phone

There are three different plan tiers for the trademark service, and the price depends on how thorough you want the search to be.

  • Federal Search — $199
  • Federal, State, and Common Law Search — $299
  • WorldScan International Search — $499

At a minimum, you’ll likely want to select the Federal, State, and Common Law search. This covers over 20 million Secretary of State records for identical and similar names. It also covers identical or similar domain names. Basically, if you’re planning to file a trademark within the US, this is what you’ll need. But if your brand is international, you’ll need to opt for the WorldScan search.

LegalZoom Trademark Registration Services

If you want to protect your business name, logo, or slogan, LegalZoom has a simple trademark registration service that you can take advantage of. This helps add protection to your brand and prevent copycats from using your name.

Trademark protection is crucial for any brand in the retail business. If someone is knocking off your products with counterfeits, an official trademark will make it easier to defend your rights and sue anyone in violation of your mark.

LegalZoom trademark registration page showing a woman sketching writing on a tablet

This is an attorney-assisted service that costs $599 plus federal filing fees. An attorney will research the trademark for you and handle all of the appropriate filings along the way. If the trademark gets rejected, LegalZoom will cover the $599 fee to register a different mark.

While it’s still up to you to enforce any infringements against your trademark, LegalZoom can make this process much easier for you.

With LegalZoom’s trademark monitoring service, you can get active trademark monitoring and monthly reports. This even includes an advanced search, which covers trademarks with just one or two letters different from yours. These ongoing monitoring plans start at $175 per year.

We have a complete guide on trademarks that you can refer to for more information. You can also check out our step-by-step guide on how to trademark a logo .

LegalZoom Copyright Registration

For businesses and creative professionals seeking a fast and simple way to obtain a copyright, LegalZoom has you covered.

Copyrights help you control how your work is used and provide you with the legal protection you need to defend yourself against infringements. LegalZoom has facilitated the delivery of over 90,000 copyrights, so it’s safe to say they have plenty of experience in this space.

This online legal service works really well for protecting things like:

  • Photographs

Basically, any written, recorded, or otherwise tangible creative work can be eligible for a copyright.

LegalZoom’s copyright registration starts at just $114 plus federal filing fees. This includes the electronic filing of your application with the United States Copyright Office and a confirmation when the Library of Congress receives it.

This is backed by LegalZoom’s 100% satisfaction guarantee. So if you’re unhappy, you can get a full refund of LegalZoom’s fee within 60 days of your purchase.

LegalZoom Virtual Mail

LegalZoom’s virtual mail solution is perfect for businesses and individuals who value privacy. It’s especially useful for entrepreneurs and home-based businesses, as you won’t have to use your personal address for business correspondence.

Even if you have a traditional office space, LegalZoom’s virtual mailbox adds an additional layer of privacy to your mail. It ensures that nobody, including your employees, can access sensitive documents for your eyes only.

Getting started is easy. It’s just a matter of choosing an address, and LegalZoom takes care of the rest.

Once you’ve set up an account, LegalZoom can receive mail on your behalf. They’ll securely scan your mail so you can access it online from anywhere, which is super convenient for those of you who travel often and don’t always have access to your mailbox.

LegalZoom can filter out junk mail and even shred your mail so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands once it’s been disposed of.

You can even get packages delivered to your virtual mailbox, with free storage for up to ten days.

There are three different LegalZoom virtual mailbox plans to choose from:

  • Starter MailBox – $29 per month
  • Essentials MailBox – $39 per month
  • Premium MailBox – $79 per month

There are additional fees for things like letter storage after 30 days, check deposits, mail forwarding, and special requests. The biggest difference between the plans is volume and how many recipient names you can include with your address.

LegalZoom is a great choice for your next online lawyer services provider.

LegalZoom compared to the Best Online Legal Services

LegalZoom offers some of the best online legal services. LegalZoom is here to help you whether you need advice on family law, intellectual property protection, or forming a business.

LegalZoom’s one-off services can be more expensive than other providers from a business standpoint. Businesses that require ongoing legal advice may be able to benefit from the long-term service packages, which come with flat monthly fees. LegalZoom is a great choice for people who have frequent legal needs.

This list includes the top online legal services available today. We also discuss some important methods to follow when selecting the right service provider for you.

LegalZoom: The Good and The Bad

LegalZoom is a leading provider of online legal services. It offers a lot of benefits to potential customers. Even the most reliable providers can still make improvements. To help you decide if LegalZoom is the right choice for your company, we’ll take a look at all the benefits and drawbacks of their offerings.

LegalZoom’s 20-year history in the legal services sector has been a major player for more than two decades. It has helped more than 2 million entrepreneurs and small-business owners make their dreams of starting their own businesses a reality. This level of expertise means that you can be confident that your legal needs will be met.

A wide range of legal services: LegalZoom is your one-stop shop for all your business, personal, and professional legal needs. The industry’s most comprehensive range of services is offered by LegalZoom. LegalZoom covers everything you need, from business formation to intellectual and property protection, registered agent services to tax agreements and contracts, to tax contracts and agreements. LegalZoom will provide all the services that you need to launch and manage your business.

Affordable Business Advisory Plan. LegalZoom’s Business Plan gives business owners access to affordable year-round legal help for a flat monthly fee. This plan is ideal for those who need regular legal assistance to protect their business, such as with contract and agreement preparation, copyrights and legal forms, and general advice. This plan is far cheaper than using LegalZoom’s custom services, and it’s also the most affordable.

Excellent Customer Support: Previous reviews of LegalZoom’s customer service have indicated that it was inconsistent and sometimes disappointing. Recent reviews have shown that they’ve improved their customer support. Customers continue to praise their support representatives and report great customer service. The support team is helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. This is exactly what you would expect from support staff.

Extended Customer Support Hours. LegalZoom offers extended customer support hours, which is a significant improvement over its competitors. LegalZoom’s support staff can be reached at any time of the day. The US-based support team can be reached via email, phone, and live chat between 5 am and 7 pm (PT), Monday through Friday, and 7 am to 4 pm on weekends.

Long-term Satisfaction Guarantee: Although many online legal services providers offer some form of satisfaction guarantee, almost none offer two months. LegalZoom will make every effort to resolve any issues you have with their services.

LegalZoom isn’t the cheapest service provider. However, they are not the most expensive. Their one-off services tend to be more expensive. The lead-in package for business formation starts at $79 plus the state fees. It doesn’t include any impressive or advanced features. This means that you’re paying for the services of an experienced and trustworthy provider. We consider this a bit more expensive.

Excessive upsells: If you want to start a business with LegalZoom you will be faced with a series of upsells just before you get to the package selection screen. The process was quite complicated for us. The process assumes you will use LegalZooms registered agent services and does not provide any information about the cost involved. Some of the additional services, such as operating agreements and EINs, are already included in other providers’ packages.

Expensive Register Agent Services: LegalZoom’s registered agent’s services cost $299 per annum. Most competitors offer registered agent services at around $150 per annum, while some others go as low as $100. ZenBusiness and Incfile offer registered agent services free of charge for the first year.

Slow Turnaround Times: LegalZoom’s turnaround times for business formation are slower than its competitors. LegalZoom will take 30 days to complete your business formation process. While other providers may deliver your documents within seven days, LegalZoom can take up to 30 days. Even LegalZoom’s expedited services take 10 business days to complete.

LegalZoom Pricing Options and Pricing

LegalZoom’s services for business formation start at:

  • LLC formation: $79 plus state filing fees
  • Corporation formation: $149 plus state filing fees
  • Services of a registered agent: $299 per annum

These prices are certainly not the most expensive in the industry. However, if you look closely at the features that you get for your money they aren’t very high-value.

The lead-in formation packages, for example, include the basic features of a comprehensive name search, paperwork filing, an online tracker, lifetime customer service, digital access to formation documents, and an online order tracker. They include only the essentials.

LegalZoom, on the other hand, offers business owners who need ongoing legal assistance access to their Business Advisory Plan at a reasonable price. You’ll get access to an attorney for a flat monthly charge. This will allow you to review contracts and agreements and provide personalized advice.

The Business Advisory Plan pricing is $39.08 per Month over 12 months or $43.16 Per Month over 6 months.

All plans include a business name availability check, incorporation documents, filing, and lifetime customer service. You also get a “next steps” guide and peace-of-mind review. Standard and Express Gold incorporation packages include a deluxe organizer as well as official seals and certificates.

You can pay $20 more for the Standard plan if you are willing to pay. The Express Gold package will allow you to receive express shipping and rush processing from the Secretary of State.

The turnaround time is the biggest difference between these plans. The Economy plan, with its 30-day turnaround, will be sufficient if you are not in a hurry to form your company. If you’re in a hurry to form your corporation, the Economy plan with its 30-day turnaround will suffice.

LegalZoom Agent Services

It doesn’t matter what you do, every business must have a registered agent.

Official mail acceptance is handled by registered agents on behalf of your company. This includes court documents (if served), official mail from the state, state tax notifications, secretary notifications, annual report notices, and state tax notifications.

They help you to stay compliant and ensure that you don’t miss important filing deadlines.

LegalZoom’s registered agent’s services start at $299 per annum and include:

  • $1,000,000 Identity theft Protection and Credit Monitoring
  • Unlimited cloud storage for business documents
  • Access to the compliance calendar, including important deadlines
  • When switching from an existing RA, coverage for fees and paperwork

It is a good idea to use the same service provider for your business formation and registration agent to ensure everything runs smoothly. LegalZoom offers registered agent services to business formation customers at a reduced rate of $249 in the first year.

However, if you are looking for standalone registered agent services, there will be cheaper options elsewhere.

Our team of legal experts went through all the LegalZoom steps to create an LLC. We asked questions using the support vehicles offered (chat, email and phone) just as any customer would when using the product. After spending over 250 hours exploring LegalZoom and other LLC formation services, we gave a rating to LegalZoom’s LLC formation service based on its features, value for money, customer service and usability based on our own experience with the product, not based on what the company says it does or offers.

LegalZoom — whose name sometimes appears on websites as Legal Zoom — is one of the leading online legal service providers, offering both DIY and attorney-assisted legal help to millions of customers since they were founded in 2001 in Glendale, California. LegalZoom is not a law firm, but the company does partner with thousands of legal consultants from around the country to help customers with personal and business-related endeavors. The platform is primarily used by customers needing new business formation or estate planning services, but also assists in a variety of other areas, including intellectual property, marriage and divorce, and real estate.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has given LegalZoom an A rating, and more than 6,000 customers have rated the service with 4.57 out of 5 stars . The LegalZoom reviews on Trustpilot show that it has earned “Excellent” status, and over 3,000 customers have rated the service an average of 4.6 out of 5-stars . ConsumerAffairs gives LegalZoom 4.5 out of 5 stars based on more than 2,000 ratings.

LegalZoom has helped entrepreneurs start more than two million businesses with its online business formation services. The company can help those looking to establish or do the following:

  • Start an LLC (limited liability company)

  • Secure a state tax ID

Tiers to Choose From

Our Guides Legal Services Team assessed the three pricing tiers for LegalZoom LLC formation: Basic, Pro and Premium. The tiers range from basic services with standard processing times to a more complete business formation package with expedited filing. As we mentioned above, LegalZoom is currently experimenting with their packages and prices so these options may vary for some users .

Here’s a quick look at what each tier currently has to offer:

Basic Package (20 business-day processing time): Currently priced at $0, this tier comes with:

  • Name check and business filing
  • 20 business-day filing time
  • Articles of organization document
  • LLC next steps guide
  • Peace of Mind Review™
  • Lifetime customer support via email and chat
  • Financial account authorization letter
  • Business newsletter
  • Digital tracker on your order progress
  • Customizable website powered by Wix

Pro Package (10 business-day processing time): Currently priced at $249, this tier comes with all the Basic Package benefits, plus:

Operating Agreement

  • Federal Tax ID number (EIN)
  • Comprehensive guide to business licenses for your location and industry
  • Consultation with a licensed insurance agent
  • Consultation with a small business tax specialist
  • Lifetime customer support via email, chat and phone

Premium Package (2-5 business-day processing time): Currently priced at $299, this tier comes with all the Pro Package benefits, plus:

  • Expedited processing with the secretary of state
  • Express shipping
  • Unlimited 30-minute attorney consultations about new and unique legal topics and issues
  • A review of your legal contract and documents
  • One entity amendment with rush service included for 90 days
  • Premium packages include 90 days of LegalZoom’s Business Attorney Plan which will auto renew at $49/month

Processing time

One of the main differentiations between each package is the processing time. You should know that this estimated processing time is how long LegalZoom will take to internally process your filing. This does not include the time it will take for the state to process your documents.

The Basic Package comes with a 20 business-day processing time, the Pro Package has a 10 business-day processing time and the Premium Package has the quickest turnaround time which is about 2-5 business-day processing time.

LegalZoom Customer Support

The LegalZoom customer support center is U.S.-based and sales agents are available during extended business hours. You can reach a representative by phone Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT, or on weekends from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT. You can also submit a question on the company website.

Satisfaction Guarantee

Here’s a highlight of this LegalZoom LLC review: If you are not satisfied with LegalZoom’s services within the first 60 days, the company will  issue you a refund . It’s important to note that LegalZoom can’t refund any money that went to government entities or third parties. For example, if you use LegalZoom to file an LLC, you won’t be refunded for the state filing fees.

LegalZoom Value

Compared to other competitors in the legal space, we found LegalZoom’s LLC formation cost to be more expensive, which is not very surprising considering their reputation and the attorney review process they guarantee.

Depending on your needs, you may pay a flat fee, monthly membership or annual membership price. Below is a price summary of some of the company’s popular packages and services that we looked at for this LegalZoom review:

*Prices may vary based on state. Restrictions may apply. All pricing in this LegalZoom review is accurate as of October 2023.

LegalZoom Add-on Services: Business Operations for your LLC

For business owners who already have their companies established and for those just starting the process, LegalZoom offers numerous features that you can take advantage of before or after creating an LLC. These additional features include:

  • Registered agent services
  • Operating agreement

Business Advisory Plan

  • Annual reports
  • Compliance calendar
  • Minutes manager
  • Business Banking and Insurance Partner
  • Contracts and agreements

When you’re moving through the prompts and determining which package and products you’ll need, there are some details you should know about LegalZoom’s upsells.

LegalZoom Registered Agent Services

Every LLC throughout the United States is required to have a registered agent for their business. Agents will accept service of process and other important documents on behalf of the LLC. The LLC can choose a member to take on the job or hire a service.

LegalZoom offers a registered agent service for $299 per year. This service comes with alerts whenever your LLC receives mail, emails and notifications when deadlines are approaching identity theft protection up to $1 million and unlimited cloud storage for your business documents. Normally to change the registered agent for your LLC you’ll have to alert the state by filing a document, but if you purchase their service, LegalZoom will file that document on behalf of your LLC. If you start an LLC using LegalZoom you can add on this benefit while forming your entity which will streamline this process.

The Business Advisory Plan allows customers to get year-round attorney help on all business-related matters, like contracts, agreements, trademarks and trusts. With this membership you’ll also get access to important legal forms and other documents. If you commit to a year-long subscription, you’ll get this package for about $39 per month. If you want to pay monthly, it’s about $43 per month. The cost will vary depending on where you live, and the average cost of legal expenses in your area.

Inside Scoop: Do you have a business, name or creation that you need to protect? LegalZoom claims to be the #1 brand in online intellectual property protection, offering various services related to trademark, copyright and patent protection.

Total Compliance

This is offered as an add-on feature for any formation package through LegalZoom. This additional feature will assist you with filing required annual documents on time, keeping record of documents and maintaining separation between business and personal assets. This add-on alone will cost an additional $280 per year. However, many of the features it offers will be included if you invest in other services offered by LegalZoom (like their registered agent service that comes with notifications when annual documents are due).

Whether your state requires an operating agreement when forming your LLC or you’re making the responsible choice and having one in place of your own volition, LegalZoom has an operating agreement feature that you can add on while moving through their formation prompts.

Starting at $99, you’ll get an operating agreement that’s generated after you answer a few questions and you’ll get their Peace of Mind Review™ which makes sure your agreement is legally sound. For an additional $100 LegalZoom will prioritize their review of your document and send it out using express shipping.

Business Banking and Insurance Partners

You can create a business banking account with one of their partners and get special offers. They also have partners offering business insurance for your small business needs.

Tax Advisory Service

Since forming a business will usually make your tax process a bit more complex, LegalZoom offers an add-on tax service. The most inexpensive option is their “Tax Advisory” option that offers unlimited advice on taxes and their other options are about $1000 per year.

After delving into LegalZoom’s LLC formation service’s benefits and pricing, you might be wondering how their service compares to their competitors.

LegalZoom vs. ZenBusiness

Read our full in-depth review of  ZenBusiness vs. LegalZoom .

ZenBusiness is an online platform dedicated entirely to business formation. Each formation service has its differences, making them each great choices for two different types of consumers. For entrepreneurs simply looking to officially form a small business ZenBusiness is the better choice. However, for those who want an all-inclusive formation experience and want to take advantage of a broad scope of legal expertise, LegalZoom is a better fit for you.

Inside Scoop: If you’re looking to start an LLC at a minimal cost, ZenBusiness and LegalZoom both have a basic package that starts at $0.

LegalZoom vs. IncFile

Read our full in-depth review of LegalZoon vs Incfile .

Incfile’s lowest package at $0 + state filing fee includes registered agent services for free during your first year with the company. However, one big way that LegalZoom wins is through their ability to provide attorney help when you need it.

Overall, Incfile’s prices are lower than LegalZoom’s and their product is ideal for users who don’t anticipate needing legal help in the future. However, LegalZoom has a higher quality product backed by reviewing attorneys and a glowing reputation.

LegalZoom vs. Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer is another online legal site that advertises legal services. While Rocket Lawyer offers similar services to LegalZoom, its website plays up the company’s ability to help users with documents more than anything else.

Where LegalZoom Wins:

  • More affordable monthly membership for personal legal issues.  Rocket Lawyer offers a free week trial, but after that, it’s $39.99 per month for its premium membership (which serves both individuals and businesses) compared to LegalZoom’s price tag of $16.59 per month for personal legal support.
  • Customer support availability.  LegalZoom’s phone representatives are available seven days a week for nine to 14 hours per day. Rocket Lawyer offers phone support only 12 hours per day, Monday through Friday, which might be inconvenient for some entrepreneurs.
  • Reputation.  LegalZoom has been around longer and has a more recognizable name in the online legal space.

Where Rocket Lawyer Wins:

  • Free week trial.  Rocket Lawyer allows you to get familiar with its service and start making documents or even incorporate your LLC for free (you’ll just need to pay the state filing fees). So, if you decide to cancel your membership before the week trial is up, you could have already filed your business and acquired some legal documents through Rocket Lawyer without having to pay them a cent.
  • Quick answers feature.  Both LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer offer unlimited attorney touchpoints for new legal issues as part of their monthly membership package, but Rocket Lawyer also offers a “quick answer” feature on its website. If you have a simple legal question, you can post it on the site and an attorney will respond either online or by phone.
  • Monthly membership is more inclusive.  You pay more to get more. For example, let’s say you need to do some estate planning. Rocket Lawyer’s monthly membership includes access to many legal documents. LegalZoom charges a la cart for estate planning documents, which may be preferable to customers who only need to create one document.

Bottom line:  Our LegalZoom review determined that if you need extensive access to legal documents, you’re likely better off paying a bit more for Rocket Lawyer’s services. However, if you have straightforward questions for a lawyer, need a review of a simple legal document or don’t require lots of legal forms or contracts, LegalZoom is probably the better pick.

LegalZoom vs. LegalShield

LegalShield is an online legal technology platform that’s similar to LegalZoom at first glance, but has different offerings and prices. The biggest difference we’ve found is that LegalZoom advertises more of its individual legal services and has a lot of DIY options, while LegalShield is mainly focused on its membership plans and on building a relationship between the client and lawyer.

  • More affordable for personal legal advice.  LegalZoom reviews show a cheaper monthly legal plan starting at $16.59 per month, compared to LegalShield’s service that starts at $29.95 per month. However, LegalZoom’s plan is restricted to new legal matters.
  • More affordable for business. LegalZoom has a cheaper business formation plan that starts at $0 for the year, plus the state filing fee, compared to LegalShield´s, which starts at $149, plus the state filing fee. (It’s worth noting LegalShield’s LLC formation plan does include more value, including an EIN.)
  • Individual legal services.  The main distinction we found is that you can purchase individual legal services through LegalZoom, while LegalShield includes their services and ongoing legal help through monthly plan options.

Where LegalShield Wins:

  • More touch points.  LegalShield’s monthly personal legal plan offers unlimited access to a lawyer including for pre-existing matters. Additionally, LegalShield members have 24/7 access to legal help for certain  emergency situations . LegalZoom’s unlimited 30-minute consultations are limited to new legal issues only.
  • More inclusive.  LegalShield’s monthly personal legal plan includes more services, such as standard will preparation, living will preparation, and legal help for IRS audits.

Bottom line:  If you want to form an LLC or if you have simple personal or business legal needs that don’t require a lot of attorney assistance, LegalZoom has more affordable options than LegalShield. However, if you’re looking for something more hands-on and want an ongoing relationship with a lawyer, you may find it’s beneficial to spend a little more money to go with LegalShield.

While LegalZoom is a great choice for starting and maintaining your LLC, it’s also a great choice for your other legal needs. LegalZoom has offerings for specific legal needs and if you just want broad legal help, they also have a membership for general legal assistance.

Legal Assist Plan

For a monthly fee, this prepaid membership plan offers unlimited 30-minute consultations with an attorney for any new legal matters. You have the option of choosing a 12- or six-month membership – both give you the same amount of access to LegalZoom’s network of attorneys with no hourly or hidden fees. Your membership also includes a review of legal documents up to 10 pages and, with the 12-month option, an annual legal checkup.

Personal and Family

For personal and family matters, LegalZoom’s offerings include the following:

  • Last will and testament
  • Living will
  • Healthcare power of attorney
  • Living trust
  • Financial power of attorney
  • Marriage and divorce (including uncontested divorce and name change)

There are also two estate planning bundles available to customers:

  • Last will estate plan  (for one or two people): Includes last will(s), living will(s), financial power of attorney and one year of attorney access.
  • Living trust estate plan  (for one or two people): Includes living trust(s), living will(s), financial power of attorney and one year of attorney access.

Business Entity Formation

In addition to an LLC formation service, LegalZoom can help you form a different business entity, including:

  • Incorporation Services
  • Starting a nonprofit business
  • Starting a sole proprietorship

Is LegalZoom trustworthy?

Absolutely! LegalZoom has been helping customers resolve legal issues for over 20 years. Their LLC formation service offers assistance from attorneys throughout the process and has a money-back satisfaction guarantee to back up their service. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has given LegalZoom an A rating, and almost 6,000 customers have rated the service with 4.57 out of 5 stars. The LegalZoom reviews on Trustpilot show that it has earned “Excellent” status, and over 1,700 customers have rated the service an average of 4.5 out of 5-stars. ConsumerAffairs gives LegalZoom 4.7 out of 5 stars based on 600 ratings.

Is LegalZoom a good registered agent?

LegalZoom’s registered agent service not only accepts important documents on your LLC’s behalf, but also gives you a compliance calendar and notifies you when important filings are due. As far as their service is concerned, they are topnotch.

However, they are more expensive than other companies with services at $299 per year. Other formation services, like Northwest Registered Agent will be your registered agent free for the first year and are only $125 per year after that.

What is cheaper, ZenBusiness or LegalZoom?

Both LegalZoom and ZenBusiness offer $0 basic packages + state filing fee. ZenBusiness offers a more affordable Pro LLC formation service at $199 compared to LegalZoom’s Pro package at $249. See our in-depth Zenbusiness vs LegalZoom comparison of the two companies for a more in-depth look at the value each company offers.

Is it easy to cancel LegalZoom?

LegalZoom’s cancellation process is fairly straightforward. You’ll need to call their number (800-733-0888) to cancel an order. To cancel a subscription you can either call their number (888-310-0151) or sign in to your Account, go to the Account tab and then to the Manage Payments section. From there you’ll click on your subscription, then click on the Cancel link.

Who are competitors of LegalZoom?

For LLC formation services, LegalZoom’s competitors are:

  • ZenBusiness
  • Swyft Filings
  • Northwest Registered Agent

LegalZoom (LZ) can be a good service for someone with a do-it-yourself approach to business formation.

If you’re shopping around for a low-cost LLC formation package with articles of organization and name check services included, LZ’s Basic Plan will do the trick. But you’ll have to take care of your operating agreement and EIN on your own, and LZ’s registered agent services will cost you an extra $249 per year.

LegalZoom stands out amongst the competition for its unlimited 30-minute legal consultations, included with the Premium Plan for the first three months. LZ also has a 60-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee and Wix websites to build your business’s online presence are complimentary with every plan.

LegalZoom was established as a tech company in 2001. Since then, LZ has added business formation services, tax filing/advising and other business and personal services to its roster. The company now has corporate offices in Los Angeles, Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area.

While LegalZoom offers a $0 LLC formation package, the price tag isn’t the only thing to look for when deciding whether or not to sign up. According to William Fry, CEO of Beacon, a company that assists with buying and selling small businesses, you should also focus on customer reviews.

“Some providers have terrible customer service,” warns Fry, “so you’ll regret going with a service that appeared cheaper on the front end but cost you more in time and headaches on the back end.”

Most customers have positive things to say about LegalZoom. On Trustpilot, over 80% of LegalZoom reviews are five stars. Most customers comment on how easy it is to use LegalZoom and their positive experiences with customer service.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives LegalZoom an A+ rating, although LZ has closed over 400 complaints over the last year. Several recent complaints mention unexpected monthly charges.

LegalZoom is one of many LLC formation services that has packages starting at $0, plus state filing fees. But you should be prepared to pay state filing fees of $50 to $500 or more, and depending on your needs, the $0 package may not include everything it takes to form your business.

“Feature-wise, you definitely want filing of your articles of organization and registered agent services, but the EIN is so easy to D.I.Y. it’s not worth paying for,” says Fry.

With LegalZoom, registered agent services aren’t included in any package, so you’ll have to pay $249 per year to get the services on top of your plan’s fee. By comparison, Incfile includes complimentary registered agent services in its $0 package for the first year and charges $119 annually afterward.

While registered agent services may be cheaper through some competitors, most business formation companies charge fees for EINs and operating agreements, just like LegalZoom. However, unlike some competitors, LegalZoom’s offers live chat support, a free app and a website, regardless of which plan you sign up for.

LegalZoom’s Basic plan costs $0, plus state fees. According to LegalZoom, this plan is for someone who can do most of the work themselves and who only wants the necessities for making their business official. (Namely, filing of your articles of organization.)

For just the cost of your state filing fees, LegalZoom’s Basic plan comes with the following:

  • Articles of organization filing.
  • Name check service.
  • Wix website.

If you go directly through Wix, you’ll pay a minimum of $16 per month for a website.

The mid-tier plan from LZ costs $249 plus state fees. LegalZoom recommends the Pro Plan for customers who need the essentials for compliant operations but who can do most of the work themselves.

For the $249 Pro plan, LegalZoom customers get these additional features that don’t come with the Basic plan:

  • Operating agreement.
  • Tax consultation with a small business specialist.
  • Consultation with a business insurance agent.

If purchased separately, you’ll pay $79 for LegalZoom’s EIN filing.

The Premium plan from LegalZoom costs $299, plus state fees. This top-tier plan is recommended for customers who want upfront advice from attorneys to help ensure they properly form their business.

When you opt for the Premium plan — which is $50 more than the Pro plan — you get all of the features listed above, plus a three-month subscription to the following services:

  • Unlimited 30-minute attorney consultations.
  • Attorney review of your legal contracts and documents.
  • Monthly copyright registration.
  • Access to a library of legal forms.

Note that attorney consultations are limited to one call per business topic, and you’ll be charged $49 per month for the legal services in this plan after the month period ends. Alternatively, legal advising is available through LegalZoom’s Business Advisory Plan for $469 a year ($39.09 per month) or $43.17 every six months.

LegalZoom’s three LLC formation packages are bare-bones when it comes to business formation features, but there are plenty of services you can add to your package for an extra fee. Add-ons can be chosen during the set-up process, and they include:

  • Registered agent services: $249 per year.
  • Compliance package: $280 per year.
  • Compliance calendar: $69 per year.
  • Tax advisory plan: $49-$199 per month.
  • Legal protect plan: $49 per month.
  • Standard annual report filing: $99, plus state fees.
  • Rushed annual report filing: $199, plus state fees.
  • EIN filing: $79.

Registered agent services

Businesses must designate a registered agent in each state where they conduct business to ensure that time-sensitive legal, government and tax documents are received and promptly forwarded to the company’s headquarters.

Since registered agents are required to list their physical locations (P.O. box addresses are not allowed), Hal Brand, a CPA in southern California, suggests “home-based business owners use registered agents within their own states, so their home addresses aren’t exposed.”

LegalZoom’s registered agent services are easy to sign up for and use. They cost $249 per year per state. If you purchase these services as a stand-alone option, you will not be refunded if you decide to cancel.

LegalZoom is also among the most expensive options, with companies like BetterLegal ($90 per year) and InCorp ($129 per year) offering cheaper services.

If your company already has a registered agent designated in your formation documents, LegalZoom will file the required change in registered agent documents with the state for no additional charge.

Once any mail is received, it takes five to 14 days for documents to be scanned and uploaded to your account. In comparison, there are many competitors that offer same-day delivery of documents, like Incfile .

This service also includes access to email or SMS alerts from LegalZoom’s compliance calendar, which is typically an extra $69 per year. These alerts warn subscribers about critical tax and annual report deadlines to help avoid incurring filing penalties. LegalZoom’s registered agent services also include $1 million in identity theft protection and credit monitoring for you and your business through Experian.

If you’re on a tight budget, you might want to go with another option, especially since the registered agent services aren’t included in any of LegalZoom’s business formation packages. Like its competitors, LegalZoom offers registered agent services in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Business advisory plan

If you want the legal perks that come with the Premium plan, you might consider a Business Advisory plan instead. LegalZoom’s Business Advisory plan includes:

  • Thirty-minute attorney consultation per legal matter.
  • Contract/legal document review (up to 10 pages).
  • Annual business evaluation (with the 12-month plan only).
  • Unlimited downloads from legal form library.

These plans are available for an annual payment of $469 a year ($39.08 a month) or $259 ($43.16 a month) billed every six months.

LegalZoom offers live chat support on its website, and you can use chat to connect to an agent in less than a minute. Phone support is also available Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on the weekends from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST.

If you go through LegalZoom or ZenBusiness, it can get expensive to purchase all of the key business formation services you need.

LegalZoom offers a better price on one-time EIN filing, but if you also want a registered agent and an operating agreement, you could save $24 per year by going through ZenBusiness. Plus, ZenBusiness has excellent customer reviews on TrustPilot and only around 95 closed complaints on BBB for the last year, versus LegalZoom’s over 400 closed complaints.

Incfile is another business formation company that offers free packages, and just like LegalZoom, the $0 package from Incfile does not include an EIN or operating agreement.

It’s free to file with the IRS for your EIN, but some business owners prefer the help of an LLC service .

If you want to spring for help with your EIN, operating agreement and registered agent services, you’ll want to choose one of the LLC services paid plans. Both companies offer EIN filing and operating agreements with their mid-tier plans. However, you’ll save quite a bit of money by choosing IncFile’s Gold plan over LegalZoom because IncFile includes a free year of registered agent services with its plan.

LegalZoom can be a cost-effective option for someone who doesn’t mind doing most of their own paperwork. While the $0 package lacks some of the features you might eventually want, like an EIN, it can be easy enough to file for an EIN on your own .

If you spring for a pricier package, you’ll still have to pay for some of the business formation services you may need, like registered agent services. For most customers, the legal consultations that come with the Platinum plan are likely to be the most valuable feature. Still, you’ll have to budget your consultation time wisely since you only get 30 minutes of advising per topic.

There are also no discounts with LegalZoom. However, if you own a law or tax firm, you can get discounts for registered agents in multiple states through Legalinc, a fully-owned subsidiary of LegalZoom.

If weekend support is important to your business, LegalZoom offers nine hours of customer service access on Saturdays and Sundays. And some of its services, such as unlimited document storage and instant compliance alerts, are helpful tools. But, for most small businesses, a more affordable option will likely be the right choice.

We extensively research the key competitors within an industry to determine the best products and services for your business. Our experts identify the factors that matter most to business owners, including pricing, features and customer support, to ensure that our recommendations offer well-rounded products that will meet the needs of various small businesses.

We collect extensive data to narrow our best list to reputable, easy-to-use products with stand-out features at a reasonable price point. And we look at user reviews to ensure that business owners like you are satisfied with our top picks’ services. We use the same rubric to assess companies within a particular space so you can confidently follow our blueprint to the Best LLC Services of 2023.

LegalZoom offers all the basic services you’ll need to start an LLC, but they can get pricey if you need multiple services, like annual report filing, registered agent services or an EIN, since you may have to pay a separate fee for each one.

LegalZoom does not provide annual report filing or alerts with any of its LLC formation plans.

Their compliance package is available for $280 a year, and it includes filing of your annual reports, a compliance calendar to help you monitor upcoming filing dates and alerts . LegalZoom guarantees that they’ll pay your fine or penalty if they miss a deadline while you’re subscribed to their compliance package.

Customers with Premium plans from LegalZoom will automatically be charged $49 per month for legal service s after 30 days. Some customers have filed complaints with the BBB about unexpected, recurring charges, so you may want to monitor your payment account for unexpected transactions while using LegalZoom.

LegalZoom guarantees a refund for customers who are not 100% satisfied during the first 60 days. Refunds do not include fees that have already been paid to third parties, such as state filing fees and attorney fees.

LegalZoom offers a variety of business formation services, including registered agent services. LegalZoom also offers legal advice for business and personal matters, including:

  • Estate planning.
  • Tax advising.
  • Accounting services.

The platform is intuitive and provides a user-friendly experience from start to finish.

Continue reading to find out if LegalZoom is the right choice for you and your business.

LegalZoom.com , Inc. is a legal services and online business formation company that enables its customers to get legal help without necessarily having to hire an attorney. The legal technology platform largely provides personalized online legal solutions and legal documents for individuals, families, and small businesses.

LegalZoom offers these online legal services at affordable prices. Packages are built to meet your specific needs and generally range from $79 to $349, with options to tack on additional services if needed. Some common add-ons include registered agent services, tax advice, and unlimited access to the legal forms and business documents library. Many businesses also opt to pay a low fixed rate for ongoing legal advice and attorney consultations.

Most customers use LegalZoom for its fast and simple LLC formation process. You are also able to apply for licenses, permits, and tax IDs with LegalZoom. But, it doesn’t end there. While Legal Zoom offers plenty of business formation help, its service offerings extend to nearly every part of your life.

Here is a quick list of additional legal forms that LegalZoom offers:

  • Brand Protection Forms: Copyright registration, provisional patent application, trademark registration, search, and monitoring documents.
  • Wills and Trusts: Estate planning documents, last will and testament, living trust, power of attorney, and living will.
  • Family: Marriage and divorce, name change, etc.
  • Real Estate Planning : Residential lease and property deed transfer

LegalZoom: The Good and The Not So Good

LegalZoom LLC is one of the industry’s top online legal services providers. But, even this company has some room for improvement. Let’s take a further look at the pros and cons of LegalZoom, so you can decide whether it’s the right provider for you and your business.

  • Experience: LegalZoom was founded over 20 years ago. In that time, the online legal services company has helped over 2 million small business owners and entrepreneurs form their companies.
  • Range of Service Offerings: LegalZoom is a one-stop shop for all things legal services related. Whether you have personal, professional, or business legal needs, LegalZoom can help. The platform offers a wide range of services – from business formation and intellectual property protection to registered agent services and tax contracts. This level of versatility is unmatched in the industry.
  • Business Advisory: LegalZoom offers a Business Advisory Plan for business owners that want year-round attorney advice and guidance to help protect their companies. This plan is ideal for those who need ongoing help with legal forms, contracts, agreements, copyrights, etc. It’s also perfect if you want a personalized legal plan every year. This route is far more cost-effective than using LegalZoom’s one-off service every time you need assistance.
  • Money-Back Guarantee: LegalZoom has a long-lasting satisfaction guarantee period where customers can get a 100% refund if unhappy with LegalZoom’s services (no questions asked).
  • Extended Business Hours: LegalZoom offers generous customer support hours in comparison to many competitors. You can reach out to LegalZoom’s customer service team with questions or concerns seven days a week. Representatives are available from 9 am to 9 pm (EST) Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 7 pm on the weekends.

The Not So Good

  • Expensive Service: LegalZoom is not the most affordable legal service provider available. The company offers one-off services, all priced on the higher side. For example, its basic business formation package starts at $79, plus state filing fees. The costs involved do not include advanced features or tools. There are definitely more affordable options on the market, offering the exact same service. That being said, you are paying an extremely experienced and reputable provider, which is a factor to consider.
  • Multiple Upsells: In addition to its expensive one-off services, LegalZoom presents you with a series of upsells before, during, and after completing your purchase. Some of the upsells include an operating agreement and EIN, which are things that other providers include in their package selections. This makes the purchase process slow, complicated, and ultimately expensive.
  • Pricey Registered Agents: LegalZoom’s Registered Agent Services are some of the most expensive in the industry. It costs around $299 every year. In comparison, many competitors offer this service free for your first year of business and charge around $100-$150 per year after that. For example, both ZenBusiness and Northwest Registered Agent have basic packages that already include one free year of their registered agent solutions.
  • Slower Turnarounds: The LegalZoom LLC formation turnaround times are slow compared to other providers. It can take LegalZoom a full 30 business days to complete the process, while some providers have your documents ready within 7 days. You can pay more for LegalZoom’s expedited service, but even that is quite slow. The fastest option takes 10 business days from start to finish.

LegalZoom: Pricing

LegalZoom strongly believes that every business deserves comprehensive legal protection. That’s why the company provides a wide range of services – all at affordable price points.

To form an LLC, there are three filing speed packages available, Economy (20 business days), Standard (10 business days), or Express Gold (2 to 5 business days). Turnaround times will largely depend on the package you purchase, along with any state-specific backlogs. If you’re in a rush the Express Gold package offers the fastest service.

If you’re unhappy with the process of service in any way, LegalZoom offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, and refunds are processed within five business days.

LegalZoom vs. Rocket Lawyer: Which Is Right for You

Whether you need business legal services or personal legal services, you might not want to go through the complex process of hiring a law firm (especially if it’s a simple matter).

Luckily, there are online legal services like LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer that provide the legal forms required to register a business or handle a personal issue. However, small business owners and individuals just starting a business are their most popular customers.

Both LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer can help you register your business name, get proper tax IDs, and create workplace policies. Plus, the filing fees are minor compared to what you would pay using an attorney.

So, what’s the difference between the two? This LegalZoom vs. Rocket Lawyer comparison will help you determine which option is best for you.

Feature Comparison

Both LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer offer extensive features that mimic the services provided by an in-person law firm. While not every online resource can possibly provide every service needed, these platforms are considered on-stop shop options to get a head start on the legal form process.

Rocket Lawyer Services and Features

While Rocket Lawyer helps with the business formation process, they also provide services to help you continue to operate with all the necessary legal requirements, including additional legal documents that are want-to-haves versus must-haves.

Here are some of the key services and features Rocket Lawyer offers:

  • Business incorporation
  • File bankruptcy
  • Manage employees
  • Buy/sell a service
  • Non-disclosure agreements
  • Independent contractor agreements
  • LLC operating agreements
  • Swear statements
  • Update/manage a contract

LegalZoom Services and Features

LegalZoom has similar offerings to Rocket Lawyer, making it difficult to decide between the two solely based on the feature list.

Here are some of the key services and features LegalZoom offers:

  • “Doing Business As” name (DBA)
  • Operating agreement form
  • Business name availability check
  • Business name availability check and name reservation
  • Federal and state tax ID (EIN)
  • Trademarking search and name
  • Various business licenses and legal forms
  • Own registered agent service
  • Consulting services agreements
  • Bill of sale
  • Intellectual property
  • Workplace benefits

Pricing Comparison

LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer both offer comprehensive features, but there are some real differences in their pricing models.

Rocket Lawyer Pricing

Rocket Lawyer has limited pricing options and only offers two packages, which vary based on the amount and types of legal documents you need.

For example, all Rocket Lawyer services can be purchased individually. This is called the non-member package. You will pay per legal form or service, which is if your own business only has a few legal needs.

The premium membership costs $39.99 per month and includes:

  • Various legal form options that can be signed, downloaded, shared, and printed any time and anywhere.
  • 30-minute attorney consultations for new legal matters
  • 25% off their registered agent service
  • Free incorporation filing for new members (plus any state filing fees)
  • Document Defense® with on-call lawyers

Rocket Lawyer also offers a free trial for seven days. It includes everything offered in the Premium membership package, but limits you to 3 legal documents and 1 question. This is ideal for those who have never used the platform and want to test it out before committing to a monthly membership.

LegalZoom Pricing

LegalZoom has an entirely different pricing model. There are no memberships offered. Instead, every legal form and service is purchased on an as-needed basis.

As a reminder, the Standard package costs $99, the Premium package costs $119, and the Express Gold Package costs $349. For package details and features, re-visit the in-depth LegalZoom pricing review above.

Customer Support Comparison

Having to deal with important legal issues and documentation can be extremely stressful. Responsive and knowledgeable customer service representatives can make all the difference for any online business.

While both LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer offer informative support centers, there are a few key differences between the two services.

Rocket Lawyer Customer Support

Rocket Lawyer offers various resources on its site and provides excellent customer support. The company has a dedicated customer support page that discusses multiple topics like starting a business, contracts and legal forms, membership options, and technical solutions.

Further, Rocket Lawyer’s customer service options allow users to get instant help via live chat. You can also reach a representative by sending an email or calling directly (business hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 9 pm EST).

LegalZoom Customer Service

LegalZoom also has a dedicated resources page that covers things like starting an LLC, registering a trademark, managing your business, navigating business formation, and much more.

On a separate support page, you can read through FAQs, which mainly address technical issues and order/subscription-based questions. You can also contact LegalZoom customer support over the phone Monday – Friday between 9 am – 9 pm EST and Saturday-Sunday between 10 am – 7 pm EST. The only other option is to submit a question via an online form. There is no live chat feature or email address offered.
