The Sims 2

In The Sims 2 , The Sims Stories , The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 , children and teens get homework on school days. Homework comes in the form of a school notebook, with differing covers depending on the student's life stage [ TS2 ] [ TS4 ] and the number of days that have passed. [ clarification needed ] [ TS2 ] Homework can be completed at a desk or on the floor, and will usually take a Sim hour to complete. Failing to complete homework generally results in bad grades. In The Sims 4: Discover University , students young adult and above are also given homework after each class.

The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories [ edit | edit source ]

In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , children and teens will have homework in their hands after they get off the school bus. If possible, they will put the assignment on or by a desk, and seem to prefer the first desk that was placed in the house, even if it is in an illogical or inaccessible location. [n 1] If a student has unfinished homework, he or she will put the new homework on top of it. The player can tell the student to put the homework down by canceling the "Go to School" icon. Homework can be moved in buy and build modes, though it cannot be deleted. A child's homework will be brightly colored, while a teen's homework will be plainly colored.

Clicking on the homework gives the child or teen an option to complete it or ask an older Sim for help. An older household member, when the homework is clicked, can offer help with finishing the homework. A child or teen who is being helped with homework will finish it faster, and will gain the memory of being taught to study . This will fulfill the "Ask for Homework Help" want , and will allow them to do homework more quickly in the future. If Seasons is installed, students will do homework faster in the fall , or after drinking apple juice .

Sims can do homework while seated at a desk or sitting down on the ground. There does not appear to be any difference in completion speed depending on how the Sim is seated. If Apartment Life is installed, Sims cannot do homework that is placed in an apartment 's communal area.

Sims will not usually get distracted while doing homework, unless their motives are low. They are more likely to get distracted if they are being helped by an older Sim. It is usually best to ensure that both the student and the mentor are in a good mood prior to beginning the interaction, and that no other interactions are in their queue until the homework has been completed.

There is no time limit on completing homework, but doing (or not doing) homework will affect a student's grades. A student who goes to school in a good mood with all homework done will gain a better grade. Students will not be penalized for going to school with one piece of incomplete homework, but going to school with more than one piece of incomplete homework may cause their grades to drop. [n 2]

Sims may have a want to do homework. This want will be fulfilled when they complete a piece of homework. This want will be fulfilled even if the homework they complete belongs to another Sim.

Young adults in college do not receive homework, but can optionally do assignments in order to improve their class performance.

If a teen has unfinished homework when he or she is sent to college or becomes an adult , it will disappear.

The Sims 3 [ edit | edit source ]

how to get child to do homework sims 3

On school days, children and teens will come home with homework in their inventory . This is unlike The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , where they would place the homework down. They can simply "Do Homework" on their own, "Do Homework With..." another friend of their age group, or "Get Help From" an older Sim on the lot. Sims can also do someone else's homework, or copy someone's homework if that person already did it, although this can cause after school detention. Sims may stop doing homework if they are hungry , tired, have the "Stressed" moodlet, or have a low bladder meter. Sims with bookworm and workaholic traits, as well as logic skill get homework done faster, and the library is a good place to study. The level of logic skill does not increase the rate of finishing homework; only one skill point in Logic is necessary. In Supernatural , vampires also do homework faster than normal Sims, and witches may magically finish it in a matter of seconds with a chance of being Singed . Homework is a hidden skill.

Students who skip homework or do not complete it on time will receive a bad mark in the Homework area of their school performance (This can be found in the 'School' section of the Simology panel) and may get detention. Students who complete their homework on time get a good mark in this section. However, homework can be finished while at school using the "Work on Late Homework" option. However, if the teacher catches them, they may get an after school detention. Good students grow up to be good adults, so it is important that young Sims maintain good grades. If a Sim has an A when they age up, the player will be able to choose his or her next trait. [n 3]

In Generations , children can bury their homework in the sandbox, but will receive a bad grade for doing so.

The Sims 4 [ edit | edit source ]

how to get child to do homework sims 3

Once Sims become a child or teen on-screen, they will automatically receive a homework book appropriate for their life stage in their inventory, whether or not they have attended school in the past. Children will have a yellow book labeled "Grade School Homework" while teens will receive a blue book simply labeled "Homework". When a student receives a B or above from school, they will be given the option "Do Extra Credit" if they have finished the homework by clicking again on their individual homework books. Children have the ability to receive help from adults. Unlike previous games, children who neglect their homework still have a fair shot at keeping their school performance high by completing other tasks such as maintaining certain moods or building skills. If a player's Sim misplaces a homework book or ages up to a child or teen off-screen, they can purchase a new homework book for §1 from a bookcase, or simply use another Sim's homework book. Unlike previous games, a homework book is not tied to a particular Sim.

If all four of a child Sim's skills ( creativity , mental , motor , social ) are at least level 3, "Do Homework" changes to "Breeze Through Homework", meaning the Sim is already skilled and can complete the homework more quickly. With all four skills at level 7, this changes again to "Dominate Homework," and the homework can be completed even more quickly. This speed boost is not available to teen Sims.

Homework is given to young adult sims and older in The Sims 4: Discover University . Students must complete homework before every class to achieve high grades. Although failure to do so may impact a sim’s performance at university, homework is not essential. Sims that miss their homework can make up for it by studying extra hours, or edit their term papers to be outstanding quality. However to get the highest grades, it is recommended that university students finish homework before each class.

Like with school homework, a new university homework book can be purchased from any bookcase or university kiosk. Homework of any type can be completed 50% faster on lots with the “Study Spot” lot trait .

Notes [ edit | edit source ]

  • ↑ A mod on Mod The Sims remedies this issue by forcing Sims to place their homework at a player-defined location, rather than at random.
  • ↑ Grades are adjusted according to the amount of incomplete homework remaining on the lot, and not whether the homework was actually completed. Thus, players can simply delete homework using the moveobjects cheat or have a pet destroy it, and Sims will not be penalized for it.
  • ↑ If the School is deleted, then the player will get to choose their next trait if the Sim was in a Good Mood.

Once a toddler grows up to be a child, his or her main concern is going to school and getting good grades; that is, if the child cares about being able to pick a trait.

Lifetime Wish

Similar to the way adult Sims go to work, child Sims are expected to go to school. Instead of job performance, the child will have a grade. After coming home each day, the child has a notebook of homework in his or her inventory. If the child neglects to do that homework, he or she will get a lower grade in school the next day. Doing the homework, along with being in a good mood, will help keep the grades up. If the child maintains an A for three consecutive days, the child is placed on the honor roll. If the child becomes a child before going to school, have an adult help with the homework.

Child Sims can learn all skills except for charisma, gardening, and guitar. Look at the Buy tab for items that kids can use and learn skills from.

Keep an eye on your child's wishes, because a lifetime wish might appear there during this life stage.

A teen Sim does homework on a plain desk

In The Sims 4 ’s new expansion, High School Years , your teen Sims can head out to school the same way some Sims head to work. You can go with them to control what they do throughout the school day, affecting their relationships and academic growth.

Notably, in the career tab for the teen Sim, you’ll see that they have a daily task to “do homework” after every school day (as you’d expect from school). Though homework for young Sims is not a new addition, it can be new for players who never had teenage Sims.

The homework your teen Sim has to do will be in their personal inventory , as a little blue book. You can select it and click “do homework” and your teen Sim will move to a nearby table to do it.

Based on our gameplay, not doing homework didn’t do anything too dramatic to the Sims’ school performances. As long as your teen Sim is attending class, they’ll progress in their career just fine. However, if you want them to improve their grades faster, they should actively be doing their homework.

The Sims 4: How to do Homework

Homework in The Sims 4 is a necessary evil and a part of everyday life for most people IRL so it makes sense that it would be inside a life simulation game. From the time your sims turn into children until they’ve graduated University they are going to be doing homework and it will take up a significant part of their lives.

There are actually a few hacks you should know to get your sims to have more fun when doing homework, get it done quicker, and just generally finish it in a timely fashion that will make you a better sims player.

How to Do Homework for Children

When a sim’s kid returns from their long day at school they are going to have a little orange book inside of their inventory which is their homework. This should be completed before they attend school again which is usually the next day unless it’s the weekend.

You can get your sims to start doing their homework by clicking on the homework book in their inventory and choosing do homework . Your sims will find the nearest place to sit (even on the ground) to start working on their homework and will work until they are finished unless they are interrupted by low needs or an event trigger like a fire.

Any adult can come over to this sim while they are doing their homework and you can choose help with homework which will get the adult involved and sitting with the child and they will get their homework done much quicker.

There is even a system for sims kids (not teens) where if your kid gets all of the four children skills to level 3 they’ll have the option to breeze through homework instead of do homework and this will get the job done quicker.

Getting these skills all to level 7 will give them the option to dominate homework which will get it done even more quickly. This is a nice hack to really finish it without it being a huge part of their day.

Once a child has finished their homework, if they have a B or higher in school, they actually have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This is good for you if you want to get your sims to increase their school performance.

If you ever find your sims without a homework book in their inventory and you have no idea where it could be you can actually purchase these for one simoleon on any book case!

How to Do Homework for Teens

Homework works pretty much the same way for teens except their homework book is a nice blue colour instead of the orange that kids get. To get them to work on their homework you’ll get them to go into their inventory and click on it and choose do homework and they will start working on it.

They too have the option to have an adult sim to help with homework by getting that sim to click on them when they’ve started their homework and getting them to assist to make it go more quickly.

Once a teenager has a B in school they have the option to do extra credit after they’ve finished their regular homework. This will help them increase their school performance and get to an A as soon as possible.

Bonus Tip: Use the earbuds from The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff Pack when doing homework to keep your sims fun need up so they aren’t feeling tense when they’re done working on it.

School Projects

With The Sims 4: Parenthood there’s a pretty decent chance each week that your sims kids will come home with a school project that they can decide to complete for a boost to their grades. If they don’t complete it within a few days they may get a small decrease to their school grades but it’s not substantial.

These projects come home with your sims in their inventory and are rather easy to complete. They have the option to work on it either carefully or sloppily. Choosing sloppily will get the job done quicker, however, you won’t see a huge increase to their grades but you also won’t see a decrease.

The better option is to work carefully so your sims can improve their school grades. While they are working on these projects they’ll actually gain a skill depending on the type of homework they are working on. For sims kids they’ll be skills like mental, creativity, etc. but for teenagers it’ll be more specific like rocket science or painting .

One awesome thing is that you can get other sims to assist in the project up to 3 sims so you can get these projects done extremely quickly and if an adult sim who has a high skill in the project type assists it’ll go so quickly.

Working on these will also increase your sim’s kids’ responsibility character value which is awesome but failing to complete it will negativity impact this.

3 sims sitting on the floor working on a project with a toddler standing nearby in overalls and a mom on the couch in the back

How to Do Homework in University

With the 2019 addition of The Sims 4: Discover University we have a whole new type of homework for your sims to have to work on. These homework books are going to be a black and white composite notebook that will appear in your sims inventory when they enroll in their first semester of university.

Each time your sim goes to a class they are going to need to do their homework before they attend that class if they want to get a good grade, meaning that if you’re taking multiple classes your sim will be needing to do homework multiple times per week.

To get this University homework done you’ll want to click on the homework book and choose which class’ homework you actually want to work on and get started. You don’t have to do it all in one sitting so you can start and stop as many times as you want.

An awesome detail about University homework is that if your sims have a high level of the research and debate skill they’ll actually breeze through their homework much more quickly. You can also add the study spot lot trait to your sim’s lot to make it easier.

Final Thoughts

Homework is something you can’t avoid if you want your sims to do well in school when they’re young, but there’s no need to stress about it. Sims grades won’t affect their later days work performance or the overall success in their life, so no worries if you don’t get it done. Happy Playing!

I've been playing the Sims since the first game was released when I was only 5 years old. It's been a huge passion of mine for two decades and I've loved every single minute of it. I also love dogs. And grilled cheese sandwiches. And I think me and Bob Pancakes could be friends.

It do work!

Doing a 4 course in sims 4 is a real tedious chore. It will consume all your sims time and you won’t have time to do anything else. They did this way worse than sims 3 university.

There are a few tricks mind you! First of all you can be at home instead, makes it all much easier and you can(like mentioned above) add the “study spot” trait to your home.

The next trick is using the club! Make sure, if you go to the university, add everyone you see to your club. Focus on getting “Rally the Troops” perk. That will allow you to get back all your energy and other needs quickly whenever you want. There is no cooldown on this. It requires 500 points so it’s not bad at all. Just make sure the gathering is on at all times(which it should be since you most likely won’t be leaving the lot). The homework perk does not work for university.

EA could easily have fixed this by reducing the homework time from 2 hours to 1 hours imo. They made it too much of a chore. It’s a GAME after all.

But that’s the whole challenge bruh

Need to know how to do homework in The Sims 4? Getting good grades and keeping out of trouble is a great start for any Sim, but it can be difficult if you don’t know how to get homework done.

The Sims 4 lets players take control of every aspect of a Sim’s life, from waking up in the morning to completing aspiration goals. This is all possible with just the base game, and doesn’t even include mods or custom content . Completing homework is just one way you can take control. If you need help getting your Sims to do homework in The Sims 4, we’re here to show you how.

Step-By-Step Guide to Doing Homework in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 How to Do Homework

How you perform homework depends on which stage your Sim is in their education. Here’s a detailed guide for doing homework across all ages in Sims 4.

Children – How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

To get your child to do homework, follow these steps:

  • Send your child to school.
  • When they return home, select the child and check their inventory . There should be an orange book – this is their homework book.
  • Click on the book and select Do homework . The child will sit down and begin completing the task.
  • If needed, an adult Sim can assist with their child’s homework, which will speed the process up.

Make sure your character completes their homework before the next school day for optimum performance at school.

Teens – How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

If you’re struggling to get your teen Sim to do homework in The Sims 4, follow these steps:

  • Send your teen to school.
  • When they return home, check their inventory . Your teenage Sims should have a blue book, which is their homework book.
  • Complete steps 3 and 4 as above.

Getting a teen Sim to do homework is largely the same as having a child Sim complete it. The only difference is that a teen Sim’s homework book will be blue, not orange.

University Student – How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

If you have the Discover University expansion pack installed, here’s how you can get your Sim to do their homework:

  • Have your Sim go to class.
  • When they return, open the character’s inventory . There should be a homework book.
  • Click on the homework book and choose Do homework . If your Sim takes multiple classes, you’ll have to choose which homework to do.
  • Repeat until all homework is done.

Sims who have enrolled at university will have much more homework than other Sims because they will attend multiple classes. It’s a good idea to get each piece of homework done before the next class, as this will lead to bigger XP rewards and better progress at university.

To speed up the time it takes for your character to complete their university homework, try leveling up their Research and Debate skills. This will reduce the time taken to complete homework considerably.

Why Is Doing Homework Important in The Sims 4?

By doing homework, your Sim will perform better at school, leading to better school grades . This will ultimately result in better job opportunities and higher wages. Additionally, you’ll be able to unlock several achievements by performing well at school.

There’s everything that you need to know about doing homework in The Sims 4. Be sure to check out how to move items freely in The Sims 4 and how to edit sims in CAS if you need more help navigating the life simulator.

Sims 4 Homework FAQs

Cassandra Goth, an example of a child Sim in The Sims .

Childhood in The Sims can either be the state a Sim was created in, or attained after 72 game hours as a baby . Children do not grow older, and cannot gain skill points. Premade children have no skills. Kids created in Create a Sim may have random or no skills, [n 1] but children born in-game will always have random skills. [n 2] They will not be able to use most of them, but children who get high creativity can earn money by painting at an easel .

Children of the neighborhood can play with one another, and when children are in a house, another child will sometimes drop by to play with them. If they stay late into the night, their parents will come and take them home but will only do so if a sim greets them. If they are not greeted, they will leave but either them or another adult member of the household may return later. Either way, children will leave if a need drops too low or if the time reaches 2AM.

With the Makin' Magic expansion, magical children have access to the charm Age of Instant , which will permanently turn them into adults . This is the only way for a child to become an adult without the use of a hacked item or third-party program. [n 3] Makin' Magic also gives kids a bit more freedom, in that they can go to Magic Town on their own by jumping in A Hole in the Ground .

Since there are no genetics in The Sims , when a child is aged to adulthood, regardless of how it is done, he or she will be given a randomly selected body type, a randomly selected Everyday skin for that body type, and a randomly selected head skin. Therefore, the newly created adult may not look anything like the child.

Children in The Sims

Children can die from hunger in The Sims , but in The Sims 2 and all games following it, a child will be taken away by the Social Worker instead.

In The Sims Bustin' Out , children work in the same way as they do in the original game. There is an objective for the main character to have a baby with their spouse who will grow into a child after 72 hours of gameplay.

Children should go to school every day to maintain good grades, as they will lose a full grade level if they miss a day. They can regain some of that by studying from a bookcase or on a computer, and can even regain the full grade level if they study enough. Children whose grades remain at "F" for too long are sent to military school and are never seen again. Therefore, it is essential that they go to school every day, on time, and in a good mood to ensure their grades stay high. Children with an "A" average may occasionally receive §100 from their grandparents.

Dependencies and privileges [ ]

Unlike later games, it is possible for children to live alone and function well without any adults present in the house, and can even care for babies. However, they would have to rely on good grades, painting, or cheats to keep simoleons flowing in, and on ordering pizza , having a buffet table and hiring a caterer over the phone, or having Servo installed in order to eat anything other than snacks. Also, while children can get bills from the mailbox, they cannot pay them, thus in order to prevent the Repo-man from appearing, the move_objects on cheat would have to be used to delete the mail carrier before she places the bills in the mailbox. [n 4]

  • ↑ This happens due to a glitch in Create a Sim. If the player creates a child Sim and edits him/her into an adult, the new adult Sim will have random skills from the start. Doing the opposite will result in a child Sim with no skills.
  • ↑ In Makin' Magic , these skills will be lost if a child uses Age of Instant to become an adult.
  • ↑ It is possible to simulate growing up by killing or deleting a child, giving an adult the same name, and making the adult look like a grown-up version of the child.
  • ↑ There are hacked objects which can temporarily trick the game into treating a child as an adult, or vice versa. Such objects can be used to allow a child to pay bills.

Children- full of boundless energy

Childhood is the third life stage in The Sims 2 , and it lasts 8 days. Children do not have the environment motive , but have all the others. Children still have the same Grow Up aspiration they had as toddlers , but their wants and fears are different. For the first time, making friends is important, as is being taught to study by an older Sim. (This is usually an older relative, but it can be an older friend, too.)

The school day for children lasts from 9AM to 3PM, Monday through Friday, and they receive homework after each school day. As in The Sims , children whose grades are consistently poor will be removed from the family, this time by the social worker , who can also take them away if their hunger or social motives drop too low, if they are too hot or cold, [ TS2:S ] or if they are left at home with no older Sims in the house. Children taken by the social worker can later be adopted by other families.

Behavior and psychology [ ]

For a while after a Sim ages up to become a child, they will run everywhere. [n 1] When getting into or out of a dining chair , a child will not slide the chair, but will just slide into, or out of, it. So, if a dining chair has arms, a child getting into or out of it will appear to go through the arms.

A child who is awake when one of their parents returns from work will generally stop whatever they are doing (even eating or bathing), and run to greet the parent. This action can be interrupted, and the child sent back to whatever they were doing. [n 2]

Children can read from bookcases on their own, although they can still be read to by an older Sim, and will often autonomously ask to be read to. They are more likely to make messes when using a shower , and can play in any puddle regardless of personality.

Unlike The Sims , children can't live alone without an older Sim present, [n 3] [n 4] but can earn skill points . They can ask for (or be offered) lessons on all the original career reward items, and even use some of them independently. Children can also do some household chores, such as cleaning certain items and taking out trash. They can't cook unless they use the toy oven , but they can study cooking from a bookcase or the Yummy Channel . They can also eat snacks from the fridge . Nightlife introduced the inventory system, where leftover food could be stored and retrieved at any time, and Seasons and later expansion packs allows for leftovers to be put in, and retrieved from, the fridge. Both of these features make kids a little less dependent on adults for food, since they can obtain previously prepared meals. They can go along with older Sims to community lots, although they cannot buy anything. They can, however, try on clothes . Children can no longer care for babies or toddlers , though they can use the "family kiss" and some "play" interactions with the latter. If FreeTime is installed, they can sing the Nursery Rhyme with toddlers who have learned it, and can play with them at an activity table . Children cannot help out in owned businesses , but can run a lemonade stand . [ TS2:OFB ]

Children can be invited over, either with or without their parents. If a child is living in a household, they may bring another child home from school, and other children may walk by the lot. Children visiting a residential lot will almost always leave autonomously around 6 pm, even if they are with one or both parents, or if they are visiting relatives. If a child does not leave autonomously, a parent will eventually come to take the child home. Children can be telephoned at any time, but phoning a playable child after 6 pm will result in one of the child's parents appearing on the lot to bring the child home. [n 5] Children can call other Sims in the neighborhood that they have met like older Sims, and even call for some services like pizza delivery , but cannot throw parties . Children can be given cell phones, but will not be able to use them.

Children can only visit community lots when accompanied by an older Sim, although children in other households can appear on community lots on their own. They cannot purchase items at a cash register, but can use the ticket machine at a venue. They can care for pets, but cannot clean bird cages. They cannot get items from the mailbox or pay the bills. When using certain items, they will use a step-stool to reach for tall items.

Children in The Sims Castaway Stories do not go to school. This however, gives them more time to learn skills through various ways and make more friends, so that they can focus on careers when they become teens . They can still be removed by the social worker if their motives go down or they get too hot or too cold.

It's possible for children to die from some, but not all, causes in the game: fire, drowning, disease, and being crushed by a satellite. Due to an oversight, they can also be killed by flies, though as they lack an animation for this they will simply vanish and immediately trigger the Grim Reaper 's appearance.

There are unused animations for children dying of starvation and electrocution. Children are unable to repair objects, and will be removed by the Social Worker if their hunger need depletes to a low level. So in an unmodified game these can only be viewed by killing the Sim using the Rodney's Death Creator debug object. Children cannot become vampires in an unmodified game, but if they become one they are able to die of exposure to sunlight as there is no age check for this death.

The ghosts of children are unfinished and lack voices and animations, so they will appear to simply teleport randomly around the lot. They are also subject to the same child visitor curfew at night that applies to living children, so older NPCs may appear on the lot to remove them. As all ghosts are part of the "Default" household, these NPCs could potentially be "Universal NPCs" such as the Grim Reaper or the Witch Doctor , and this can cause game corruption.

  • ↑ According to Cyjon this is actually a bug caused by the game's failure to correctly initialize children's movement after they grow up.
  • ↑ There is a mod at Leefish that will suppress this.
  • ↑ Like all Townies in The Sims 2 , child Townies do not have parents in their family trees, and so, technically, they live alone.
  • ↑ This mod allows children and pets to stay at home without a teen or older present.
  • ↑ This is due to the fact that Sims being called on a phone are, technically, considered to be on the lot. Because of this, one of the child's parents may come to the lot to pick up the child, even if the phone call has ended. This mod fixes this "bug", but it also introduces a number of other features that may not be wanted.

The Sims 3 [ ]

The sims 3 child

An example of a child in The Sims 3

Childhood in The Sims 3 lasts 7 days in Normal lifespan mode, though it is possible to age Sims up at any time using the birthday cake . The life stage as a whole appears to represent Sims between the ages of 6 and 11.

From this life stage onward, Sims start wishing for things they desire. As children, Sims will not initially have a lifetime wish , but will be free to build skill levels, pursue hobbies and develop friendships that will affect later life. Some lifetime wishes, however, may become available during this stage as the child's hobbies become more defined, and hard-working child Sims that are assigned one of these early wishes can sometimes even fulfill them before they become teenagers.

The child stage now marks the point where acquired skills first become visible in a Sim's skill journal. Children can build all skills except charisma, instrument skills, athletic, and gardening. However, they can be tutored over gardening or charisma by a Sim that has the maximum logic skill.

For some reason, a child's cooking and handiness skills remain invisible until they become teenagers, but all their other skills will display normally.

Children have three traits . In order for the player to select a child's fourth trait when they become a teenager, the child must have a school performance of at least a B, otherwise the new trait will be chosen at random. The worse a child performs at school, the more likely they are to gain a negative trait upon aging up. Children cannot have romance-oriented or persuasive traits like "flirty" or "charismatic," but if testingcheatsenabled true is used, they can sometimes get them by randomly rolling traits.

Unlike older Sims, child Sims can only die from very few causes: from fire, drowning, or meteor strike. This is by deliberately game design, possibly due to developers perceiving the death of children being disturbing or frightening to the player.

While children still cannot cook (with the exception of the toy oven ) they are capable of retrieving quick meals and leftovers from the refrigerator. Children also no longer need supervision of a babysitter when left alone in the house. They are capable of using their cellphone for the first time (albeit strangely as they are unable to call emergency services ). It's also possible to have children make money on their own, as there are activities they're able to do that make profit (such as fishing, painting, or selling lemonade/baked goods).

Children can stay at home alone, visit their friends' homes or visit community lots by themselves, but they must be back on their home lot before the town curfew (10:00pm). If a child is out past their curfew, they will follow the nearest older member of their household or automatically head home, after which they will be unable to leave before 6:00 in the morning. Children will always choose bicycle, even when they don't own one, as a default means of long-distance transportation when cruising alone.

Just with toddlers and babies , the social worker will come and take away children, if one of them are left to starve to death or hadn't been given emotional support .

As of patch 1.6, children may interact with toddlers in various ways. Children can hug toddlers, read toddler books to them, and play peek-a-boo together. They can also feed toddlers on the ground or in a high chair. However, children cannot carry toddlers, place them in cribs or change their diapers, which prevents them from fully attending to the needs of toddlers without an older Sim or babysitter present. Children can also take care of pets.

Unlike previous games in the series, a child will not be removed from the household for getting F on their report cards for a period of time. They may get grounded if Generations is installed.

The Sims 4 [ ]

TS4 child pagecover image

An example of children in The Sims 4

Children in The Sims 4 take 7 days to age up in short lifespan, 13 days to age up in the normal lifespan and 52 days on long lifespan. They have four different unique aspirations to choose from: Creativity, Mental, Motor, Social, Slumped Party Animal [ TS4:GTO ] Mind and Body [ TS4:GTO ] , Playtime Captain [ TS4:GTO ] , and Creative Genius [ TS4:GTO ] , which are also special skills that only children can learn. They cannot learn any other skills until they have reached level ten in one of these skills. They have only one trait, which is chosen in CAS, or when they age up from a toddler.

In CAS, their walk style cannot be chosen and only two voices can be chosen from: sweet and warm. Their body shape cannot be changed except by using the fatness slider, but their face can be modified. Unlike previous games, they can be set as siblings with adults in CAS.

The release of Patch 46 , on January 12, 2017, added the toddler life stage to The Sims 4 . Before that, babies in The Sims 4 aged up into children, as they do in The Sims , instead of toddlers, as in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 .

As of the Growing Together Pack, Children can tease Toddlers with 4 different mean interactions (this causes the toddlers to become angry as they do not like getting bullied. making a scary face at them will make them get scared instead.)

Dependencies, privileges and duties [ ]

As in The Sims , children can be left at home alone without the need of a babysitter/nanny. They also have no curfew, so they can stay outside of their homes for as long as they desire. Although, owners of the Parenthood game pack can set a curfew for either 7:00PM, 9:00PM or 11:00PM, if the player so chooses. Ignoring hypothetical curfew will negatively impact their responsibility character value .

Children still need to go to school; however, there are no negative consequences for not going to school except a temporary embarrassed moodlet and impact on responsibility [ TS4:PH ] . Instead of keeping certain things constantly up, they have to complete certain objectives in order to increase their grade. They can also do extra credit after they've done their homework for that day if they already have a B or A grade. If they misplace or lose their homework book, they can buy another homework book using a bookshelf or use another child Sim's homework book. With Seasons or Get Famous , they can join afterschool activities .

Children can be taken away on only two grounds: either their hunger motive reaches the absolute bottom (starving), or the remaining teen or older Sims in the household die.

The Sims Medieval [ ]

Medieval boy

A Medieval child.

Child Duel

Two boys dueling with toy swords.

Children in The Sims Medieval are similar to children in The Sims in that they will not grow any older except under certain circumstances. Unlike modern Sim children, medieval children cannot die of anything.

As only Hero Sims can be playable, children will be uncontrollable. However, they can still offer much help to their parents. A hero Sim can put their child to work by having them go shopping at the market or by gathering resources around the kingdom. Married couples can have as many children as they want, but one household can only have 4 children in it. If your Sim has 5 children, you must choose one who moves away to find his fortune, study the Watcher, go to military school, etc. Single mothers can have up to 4 children.

Medieval children do not attend school. Instead they have an apprenticeship relating to their parent's occupation. For example, the daughter of the Monarch would be a Princess, while the son of the Knight would be a Squire. If both parents are Hero Sims, the child will follow the profession of whoever owns the house they live at.

Children can also duel other children with toy swords.

The Sims FreePlay [ ]

The Sims FreePlay introduced children in version 3.0 of the game. Unlike other games of the series, the age's name is Pre-Teen [1] instead of Child , which was used since The Sims and The Sims (console) . A Pre-Teen is aged up from a toddler using a birthday cake. Unlike The Sims 3 , they can study at a desk without having to be at school. They can jump on the bed and look taller than children. They can interact with toddlers, as well as with older Sims.

  • In The Sims 3 , it is possible for a child Sim to get the romance-related traits (usually reserved for teens and above), such as "Flirty" or "Hopeless Romantic", if he/she is a clone.
  • In The Sims 4 , it is possible for child Sims to purchase the "Beguiling" trait that can instantly make another sim "very flirty" from the rewards store. But since the romantic social for child Sims is disabled, they cannot use this interaction.
  • In The Sims 2: Seasons children can study charisma using the Books First for Learning Bookshelf of Education or the "I Object" Litigator Podium . In the base game they can also learn charisma with the Enterprise Office Concepts Bushmaster Tele-Prompter .
  • In The Sims 3 , children cannot play the piano, interact with the mailbox, or water plants; however, oddly enough, they can invent things and make potions. This means it is possible for children to make the "Young Again" potion if they reach level 10 Logic skill.
  • As of Growing Together, When a child loses a fight, a tooth will get knocked out.

When you think of gaming, homework probably is the furthest thing from your mind– but in the Sims 4, knowing how to do homework is the key to becoming a successful student, integral with the parenting skill, and impacts your Sims’ life in a few ways.

One thing’s for certain: whether you’re trying to raise a family, or cramming study sessions in between dorm parties, knowing how to do homework is a must in the Sims 4– and there’s more to it than you might think. Consider this your guide to homework, and all things related, in the Sims 4.

Homework in Sims: A Brief History

Homework has been signature gameplay in the Sims franchise. As a life simulator, it only makes sense that, just like players have to contend with paying bills, cleaning dirty dishes, and juggling careers with relationships, parenting, and everyday life. And it’s actually rather interesting to see how doing homework in the Sims has been important from generation to generation, but also evolved.

Here’s a Sparknotes version of the history of homework in the Sims franchise.

how to get child to do homework sims 3

Homework was not a mainstay of the original Sims game, but it was in the Sims 2. In the Sims 2, homework was important for teens, kids, and the then-new young adult life stage.

Children and Teens

A child and teen in the Sims 2 were required to go to school (with options for both public and private). Homework was generated daily. After the bus brought the kid home, that child Sim would have a physical copy of homework in their hand. Normally, homework would be set on a desk or nearby surface, though I remember many times it would just as often be placed on the ground. Completing homework had a direct effect on the Sims’ grades. Every day without incomplete homework resulted in a deduction.

A teen’s homework was a duller color, compared with the bright hues of a kid’s homework. If a Sims’ needs were not met, then they would likely not finish homework. When a Sim aged up, their homework automatically disappeared.

There were a few basic interactions for children and teens with homework in the Sims 2.

  • Work on Homework
  • Complete Homework
  • Ask for Homework Help — this could be asked of any older Sim, and not only helped Sims complete homework more quickly, but also allowed them to complete homework more efficiently in the future.

Young Adults

Young adults were introduced in the Sims 2 University expansion pack, and have since become perhaps the most popular life stage in the Sims franchise. In the Sims 2, this life stage was limited to the University expansion. These young adults worked on assignments in order to influence their grades. It worked in a similar way as with kids and teens, though in addition to homework, they also had exams to deal with.

Sims 3 continued the homework system from Sims 2, making it clear that doing homework would become an expected gameplay feature in the Sims franchise. In many ways, Sims 3 kept the same basic systems for homework intact but enhanced it through new traits, packs, and an updated interface.

School, again, was mandatory for children in the Sims 3 , with a new boarding school option for no private school. If a Sim was sent to boarding school, there was nothing that you needed to worry about in terms of completing homework. Otherwise, it worked more or less the same way: new homework was generated and had to be completed for every school day.

New features included:

  • The ability to do homework with a Sim of the same age
  • The ability to copy homework (which could send them to detention)
  • Ability to work on past due homework
  • Enhanced homework completion with the workaholic and bookworm traits or if your Sim was a vampire (Sims 3: Supernatural expansion)
  • Homework became a hidden skill
  • Sims with an A average could select their new trait when they became a teen or young adult
  • Grades listed in the new Simology panel

Young Adults (and Adults)

Sims who opted to attend college (via the Sims 3: University Life expansion pack), of course, had homework of their own. Homework, or assignments, were fairly similar to Sims 2, and, like Sims 2, the grades were determined by other factors like exams, but also somewhat how they behaved in their seminars, as well as outside projects.

Homework in the Sims 4- Your Guide

how to get child to do homework sims 3

If you’ve played previous Sims games, the good news is that homework in the Sims 4 isn’t too different from previous Sims games. But like each generation, there are different tricks and tips you need to keep in mind to be successful, whether you are just looking to complete homework to help teens pass high school, or your Sims are tackling on a degree at the University of Britechester or Foxbury Institute of Technology.

Here’s what I think you need to know.

Children are required to go to school, and Sims 4 does arguably take a step back in that public school is the only option for children and teens.

Getting to School

In a curious move, Sims 4 does not have any transportation that picks Sims up. In fact, the lack of even cars in the game has been a source of contention. In any case, a school bus won’t pick up children or teens, nor can you watch them make their way to school, as you could in the Sims 3. Instead, children and teens will either automatically transport themselves to school, or you can prompt them.

Decisions During School

Especially if you have Sims 4 Parenthood game pack, you can influence teen and child Sims’ days at school, at least a little. Pop-ups may occasionally come up where you are given a scenario, just as another kid caught cheating, or your Sim being teased. Some of these will impact your Sim’s mood and social life. Sometimes, a child or teen will also ask for advice, which is tied to Sims 4 Parenthood parenting skills.

Locating Homework

As was the case with Sims 2, there is a small distinction in the appearance of children and teens’ homework. Children Sim will have a yellow Grade School Handbook, which, when not being worked on, is typically in their inventory. Teen homework is a blue notebook.

If you’re like me, though, sometimes homework gets lost in the house. If that happens you can actually purchase homework from a bookcase for a single simoleon. And unlike in the Sims 2, homework isn’t assigned to one Sim in particular, meaning a kid can complete their homework even if it wasn’t their original copy.

How to Do/ Complete Homework

To work on homework, simply drag it out of your Sims’ inventory and click on it for the “Do Homework” option. You can have your Sim to do homework all at once, or pick it back up after taking care of their needs. Remember, your teen or child Sim will be assigned homework every school day, with no new homework on weekends.

Homework and Grade Performance

Knowing how to do homework in Sims 4 is helpful for grade performance, but it also isn’t the only factor. In fact, by building skills, working on projects, and even keeping your Sims in a good mood, you can remain a fairly good student even when you skip homework from time to time.

Sims that are at a B or A average also will have access to the “Do Extra Credit” option. This pops up after they complete their homework for the day and you select their homework a second time (homework doesn’t disappear after being completed like previous Sims games). Extra credit is a chance to boost your Sims’ grades even more.

School Projects

School Projects are a unique feature exclusive to the Sims 4: Parenthood game pack. Available to teens and children, Sims can both work on their own projects and assist others. Working on a project builds all child skills at once.

Unlike homework, there is no official deadline for school projects so there aren’t penalties for however long it takes. Once a project is completed, the student can start on a new one. Adults can help both teens and kids; kids can be helped by teens/.

You’ll be able to select from one of seven projects, all available for purchase on build mode. The completed project will be rated as excellent, good, or poor. Siblings may get upset with one another if their project is destroyed by a brother or sister.

How to Do Homework Faster

I admit; sometimes I get impatient with doing homework in Sims 4, especially if I have other plans for the family. The good news is that, if you work on your Sims’ skills, you can speed up the process for children.

You’ll need to work equally on the four major skills for Sim Children: creativity; mental; motor; social; and mental. Level 3 of all of these allows you to “Breeze through Homework” while level 7 allows them to “Dominate Homework”.

For teens, your only real option is installing a mod (which I will discuss later).

University Students

how to get child to do homework sims 3

Young adult and adult Sims can attend one of two campuses if you have the The Sims 4: Discovery University expansion pack installed. Homework, as you might imagine, is part of the equation–but the homework system looks different for adult and young adult Sims than it does for younger Sims, which impacts how you should do homework.

Getting Accepted

I won’t go into a full guide to the Discover University pack, but, in a nutshell, you Sim will have to first apply using a computer. Based upon their previous grades, skill set, and some other factors, they will either be offered or denied admission to the program of their choice at the University of Britechester of Foxbury Institute of Technology.

There is also the opportunity to gain scholarships and take out loans to finance their education. In my experience, most get accepted to school but may be limited to pursuing an honorary degree. Humanities-based degrees at Britechester, like English Literature, are honorary, while if you want a science or technology degree with distinction your Sim should attend the more modern Foxbury.

Homework Load at University

Homework is a part of the university experience in Sims 4, and doing it will help your Sims’ performance. Homework appears in their inventory (as a black and white book) and is meant to be completed before every class. You can also purchase homework from a bookshelf or the college’s kiosk (found out on the quad).

Classes are usually in the form of seminars and do not last all day, but your Sim, depending on your enrollment decisions, will likely have at least two classes per day, meaning you’ll have to juggle multiple assignments.

Other Types of Homework

In addition to doing daily homework, Sims need to attend class regularly. You’ll also be working towards end of the semester exams, final projects, and term papers, depending on the class. Doing homework daily is helpful in keeping their grade average high, and putting a little less pressure on a term paper. It is possible to flunk out of college, so doing homework on a regular basis and attending classes is a must.

How to Make Homework Easier

how to get child to do homework sims 3

Knowing how to do homework doesn’t cut it, though. Between classes, roommates, parties, extracurriculars, and just taking care of basic needs, if you’re like me, you’ll want to tip things in your Sims’ favor a little. Here are some tips

  • Work on skills related to their major, or current classes
  • Keep your Sim in a good mood by keeping needs in check
  • Decorate your space with objects that exude a “Focused” mood (you can see this if you hover over objects in buy mode)
  • Lock your dorm room to other Sims when studying

Using Mods for Better Homework

If you know how to do homework in the Sims 4 but want it to run more smoothly, another option is to download a mod. I always caution that mods are at your own risk, and they can break, so make sure you check to see that the mod has been updated and that you’re downloading from a secure site.

Better Autonomous Homework by LittleMsSam

This mod fixes what many saw as a deficit in the Sims 4 homework system, by making sure that child Sims will do their homework without your prompting. Now and Sim with an A, B, or C average won’t require you to direct them to do their homework, at least initially.

There are optional add ons, too, such as careers affecting the speed they complete their homework; automatic transfer of homework to inventories when not in use; and a mod for NPCs. Read/ Download Here .

Faster Homework (University Edition) by Scarlet’s Mods

As the name suggests, this mod allows your Sims studying at college to do homework faster. While homework normally takes 150 Sim minutes to complete, this mod allows them to complete it in 10, 25 or 50 minutes. It’s truly a huge time saver. Read/ Download Her e.

Question: Where is homework located in The Sims 4?

Answer: You can find homework in your Sims’ inventory. Sometimes. Sims will work on it and place it elsewhere. If you lose homework, it can be purchased from a bookshelf for one simoleon, or at a University kiosk for college students.

Question: Can you grade homework in Sims 4?

If you have Sims 4 Discover University installed, you get an opportunity to grade homework if your Sim is in the Education Career. To grade homework, you need to navigate to the Education Career menu. From there, you can access student homework.

Final Thoughts

Knowing how to do homework in the Sims 4 can make your playing experience a lot easier. With the help of skills, and maybe some mods, homework will take up less of your gameplay time, while your Sims still stay top students–if they, and you, so choose.

Sims 4: How to Do Homework

how to get child to do homework sims 3

How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 will have you living out your sim family’s life any which way you’d like. When your family expands and you get some children or teens, though, it’s time to start worrying about grades at school! The best way to ensure their education is top notch is to make sure they do their homework each and every school day (Mondays-Fridays). Let’s go over how to do this.

Every weekday, your child or teen sim will come home from school with homework. It can be found in their inventory, and you’ll be able to do it by clicking on it from there and selecting to do it. You can also have an adult help them out while they’re doing it by selecting the adult and then clicking on the child/teen and choosing the Help With Homework option.

Complete this and you’ll make sure your grades don’t drop! If you want to get a bit of boost in school performance, you can “Do Extra Credit” by clicking on the homework again when it’s all done the first time. This will lead to a small increase in performance the next morning that you head back to school.

That’s all there is to it! If you need any more help with the game, leave a comment down below and we’ll do our best to help you out!

The Homework Battle: How to Get Children to Do Homework

By debbie pincus, ms lmhc.

Teen girl with hands on head frustrated by homework

Parents often feel it’s their job to get their kids to do well in school. Naturally, you might get anxious about this responsibility as a parent. You might also get nervous about your kids succeeding in life—and homework often becomes the focus of that concern.

But when parents feel it’s their responsibility to get their kids to achieve, they now need something from their children—they need them to do their homework and be a success. I believe this need puts you in a powerless position as a parent because your child doesn’t have to give you what you want.

The battle about homework becomes a battle over control. Your child starts fighting to have more control over the choices in their life, while you feel that your job as a parent is to be in control of things. So you both fight harder, and it turns into a war in your home.

Over the years, I’ve talked to many parents who are in the trenches with their kids, and I’ve seen firsthand that there are many creative ways kids rebel when it comes to schoolwork. Your child might forget to do their homework, do their homework but not hand it in, do it sloppily or carelessly, or not study properly for their test. These are just a few ways that kids try to hold onto the little control they have.

When this starts happening, parents feel more and more out of control, so they punish, nag, threaten, and argue. Some parents stop trying altogether to get their children to do homework. Or, and this is common, parents will over-function for their kids by doing the work for them.

Now the battle is in full swing: reactivity is heightened as anxiety is elevated—and homework gets lost in the shuffle. The hard truth for parents is that you cannot make your children do anything, let alone homework. But what you can do is to set limits, respect their individual choices, and help motivate them to motivate themselves.

You might be thinking to yourself, “You don’t know my child. I can’t motivate him to do anything.” Many parents tell me that their children are not motivated to do their work. I believe that children are motivated—they just may not be motivated the way you’d like them to be. Keep reading for some concrete tips to help you guide them in their work without having to nag, threaten, or fight with them.

Offer for FREE Empowering Parents Personal Parenting Plan

Also, keep in mind that if you carry more of the worry, fear, disappointments, and concern than your child does about their work, ask yourself, “What’s wrong with this picture, and how did this happen?” Remember, as long as you carry their concerns, they don’t have to.

Stop the Nightly Fights

The way you can stop fighting with your kids over homework every night is to stop fighting with them tonight. Disengage from the dance. Choose some different steps or decide not to dance at all. Let homework stay where it belongs—between the teacher and the student. Stay focused on your job, which is to help your child do their job. Don’t do it for them.

If you feel frustrated, take a break from helping your child with homework. Your blood pressure on the rise is a no-win for everyone. Take five or ten minutes to calm down, and let your child do the same if you feel a storm brewing.

Create Structure Around Homework Time

Set limits around homework time. Here are a few possibilities that I’ve found to be effective with families:

  • Homework is done at the same time each night.
  • Homework is done in a public area of your house.
  • If grades are failing or falling, take away screen time so your child can focus and have more time to concentrate on their work.
  • Make it the rule that weekend activities don’t happen until work is completed. Homework comes first. As James Lehman says, “The weekend doesn’t begin until homework is done.”

Let Your Child Make Their Own Choices

I recommend that your child be free to make their own choices within the parameters you set around schoolwork. You need to back off a bit as a parent. Otherwise, you won’t be helping them with their responsibilities.

If you take too much control over the situation, it will backfire on you by turning into a power struggle. And believe me, you don’t want a power struggle over homework. I’ve seen many kids purposely do poorly just to show their parents who’s in charge. I’ve also seen children who complied to ease their parents’ anxiety, but these same kids never learned to think and make choices for themselves.

Let Your Child Own the Consequences of Their Choices

I’m a big believer in natural consequences when it comes to schoolwork. Within the structure you set up, your child has some choices. They can choose to do their homework or not. And they can choose to do it well and with effort or not. The natural consequences will come from their choices—if they don’t choose to do their work, their grades will drop.

When that happens, you can ask them some honest questions:

“Are you satisfied with how things are going?”

“What do you want to do about your grade situation?”

“How can I be helpful to you?”

Be careful not to be snarky or judgmental. Just ask the question honestly. Show honest concern and try not to show disappointment.

Intervene Without Taking Control

The expectation is that homework is done to the best of your child’s ability. When they stop making an effort, and you see their grades drop, that’s when you invite yourself in. You can say:

“It’s my job to help you do your job better. I’m going to help you set up a plan to help yourself, and I will check in to make sure you’re following it.”

Set up a plan with your child’s input to get them back on their feet. For example, the new rules might be that homework must be done in a public place in your home until they get their grades back up. You and your child might meet with the teacher to discuss disciplinary actions should their grades continue to drop.

In other words, you will help your child get back on track by putting a concrete plan in place. And when you see this change, you can step back out of it. But before that, your child is going to sit in a public space and you’re going to monitor their work.

You’re also checking in more. Depending on your child’s age, you’re making sure that things are checked off before they go out. You’re adding a half-hour of review time for their subjects every day. And then, each day after school, they’re checking with their teacher or going for some extra help.

Remember, this plan is not a punishment—it’s a practical way of helping your child to do their best.

“I Don’t Care about Bad Grades!”

Many parents will say that their kids just don’t care about their grades. My guess is that somewhere inside, they do care. “I don’t care” also becomes part of a power struggle.

In other words, your child is saying, “I’m not going to care because you can’t make me. You don’t own my life.” And they’re right. The truth is, you can’t make them care. Instead, focus on what helps their behavior improve. And focus more on their actions and less on their attitude because it’s the actions that matter the most.

Motivation Comes From Ownership

It’s important to understand that caring and motivation come from ownership. You can help your child be motivated by allowing them to own their life more.

So let them own their disappointment over their grades. Don’t feel it more than they do. Let them choose what they will do or not do about their homework and face the consequences of those choices. Now they will begin to feel ownership, which may lead to caring.

Let them figure out what motivates them, not have them motivated by fear of you. Help guide them, but don’t prevent them from feeling the real-life consequences of bad choices. Think of it this way: it’s better for your child to learn from those consequences at age ten by failing their grade and having to go to summer school than for them to learn at age 25 by losing their job.

When Your Child Has a Learning Disability

I want to note that it’s very important that you check to see that there are no other learning issues around your child’s refusal to do homework. If they’re having difficulty doing the work or are performing below grade-level expectations, they should be tested to rule out any learning disabilities or other concerns.

If there is a learning disability, your child may need more help. For example, some kids need a little more guidance; you may need to sit near your child and help a little more. You can still put structures into place depending on who your child is.

Advertisement for Empowering Parents Total Transformation Online Package

But be careful. Many times, kids with learning disabilities get way too much help and develop what psychologists call learned helplessness . Be sure you’re not over-functioning for your learning disabled child by doing their work for them or filling in answers when they’re capable of thinking through them themselves.

The Difference Between Guidance and Over-Functioning

Your child needs guidance from you, but understand that guidance does not mean doing their spelling homework for them. Rather, it’s helping them review their words. When you cross the line into over-functioning, you take on your child’s work and put their responsibilities on your shoulders. So you want to guide them by helping them edit their book report themselves or helping them take the time to review before a test. Those can be good ways of guiding your child, but anything more than that is taking too much ownership of their work.

If your child asks for help, you can coach them. Suggest that they speak with their teacher on how to be a good student and teach them those communication skills. In other words, show them how to help themselves. So you should not back off altogether—it’s that middle ground that you’re looking for. That’s why I think it’s essential to set up a structure. And within that structure, you expect your child to do what they have to do to be a good student.

Focus on Your Own Goals

When you start over-focusing on your child’s work, pause and think about your own goals and what do you need to get done to achieve those goals. Model your own persistence and perseverance to your child.

Believe In Your Child

I also tell parents to start believing in their children. Don’t keep looking at your child as a fragile creature who can’t do the work. I think we often come to the table with fear and doubt—we think if we don’t help our kids, they’re just not going to do it.

But as much as you say, “I’m just trying to help you,” what your child hears is, “You’re a failure; I don’t believe you can do it on your own.”

Instead, your message should be, “I know you can do it. And I believe in you enough to let you make your own choices and deal with the consequences.”

Frank My daughter Nina just turned 8 (Feb 11). She does not like to do homework one bit. Her teacher gives her homework every day except Friday. She loves Fridays because she doesn't like homework. She always hides her homework under her bed, refuses to do her homework, and in the More morning she tells her teacher "I lost it last night and can't find it!". She feels homework is a waste of time, yes, we all feel that way, but poor Nina needs to learn that homework is important to help you stay smart. She needs to start doing homework. How can I make her 2nd-grade brain know that homework is actually good? Is there a way to make her love, love, LOVE homework? Let me know.

So, after reading this I get to say…GREAT…You really do not know my child.  We have done 100% of everything listed in this article.  In the end, my son has utterly declared “I DON’T CARE, AND I DON’T NEED SCHOOL”.  We have attempted a “reward” system as well, and that doesn’t work.  He cares about 3 or 4 things.  Nintendo DS, Lego, K’Nex, TV…all of those he has lost over the past year.  Now he reads, ALL the time.  Fine, but that doesn’t get his homework done.  It also doesn’t get anything else he needs to do done.  We’ve done “task boards”, we’ve done “Reward Systems”, we’ve done the “What is on your list to complete”.  EVERYTHING is met with either a full fledged meltdown (think 2 year old…on the floor, kicking and screaming and crying).  His IMMEDIATE response to ANYTHING that may interrupt him is “NO” or worse.  If something doesn’t go his way directly he throws a fit INSTANTLY, even if the response is “Give me a second” it’s NOW OR I’M DESTROYING SOMETHING.  He’s been suspended multiple times for his anger issues, and he’s only 10.  Unfortuantely we have no family history as he was adopted from Russia.  His “formal” diagnosis are ADHD and Anxiety.  I’m thinking there is something much more going on.  BTW: He did have an IQ test and that put him at 145 for Spacial and Geometric items, with a 136 for written and language.  His composite was 139, which puts him in the genius category, but he’s failing across the board…because he refuses to do the work.

Interesting article and comments. Our son (6th grade) was early diagnosed as ADHD and for the first 3 years of elementary school several of his teachers suggested he might require special education. But then the school counseling staff did a workup and determined that his IQ is 161 and from that point forward his classroom antics were largely tolerated as “eccentric”.  He has now moved to middle school (6th grade) and while his classroom participation seems to be satisfactory to all teachers, he has refused to do approximately 65% of his homework so far this school year. We have tried talking with him, reasoning with him, removing screen time, offering cash payments (which he lectures us as being unethical “bribes”), offering trips, offering hobbies and sporting events, and just about anything we can think of. Our other children have all been through the “talented and gifted” programs, but he simply refuses to participate in day-to-day school work. His fall report card was pretty much solid “F” or “O” grades. He may be bored out of his mind, or he may have some other issues. Unfortunately, home schooling is not an option, and neither is one of the $40,000 per year local private schools which may or may not be in a better position to deal with his approach to school.  Do “learning centers” work for kids like this? Paying somebody else to force him to do his homework seems like a coward’s solution but I am nearly at the end of my rope! Thanks..

RebeccaW_ParentalSupport 12yokosuka Many parents struggle with staying calm when their child is acting out and screaming, so you are not alone.  It tends to be effective to set up a structured time for kids to do their homework and study, and they can earn a privilege if they comply and meet More their responsibilities.  What this might look like for your daughter is that if she studies, she can earn her phone that day.  If she refuses, and chooses to argue or scream at you instead, then she doesn’t earn her phone that day and has another chance the next day.  You can read more about this in https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/end-the-nightly-homework-struggle-5-homework-strategies-that-work-for-kids/.  If you are also looking for resources to help you stay calm, I encourage you to check out our articles, blogs, and other resources on https://www.empoweringparents.com/article-categories/parenting-strategies-techniques/calm-parenting/.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions.  Take care.

JoJoSuma I am having the exact same problem with my 9 year old son. His grades are quickly falling and I have no idea why or where to begin with helping him turn things around. When he applies himself he receives score of 80% or higher, and when he doesn't it clearly shows and he receives failing scores. He, too, says that he doesn't do or want to do the work because it is boring, or that he "Forgot" or "lost it". He has started to become a disruption to the class and at this rate I am afraid that he will have to repeat 5th grade. I am also a single parent so my frustration is at an all time high. You are not alone and I wish you and your family the best.

Thank you so much for these tips RebeccaW_ParentalSupport because I SERIOUSLY had nowhere to turn and no clue where to begin. I have cried many nights feeling like I was losing control. I will try your tips and see where things go from here.

It’s not uncommon

for kids to avoid doing homework, chores or other similar tasks.  After

all, homework can be boring or difficult, and most people (both kids and adults

alike) tend to prefer activities which are enjoyable or fun.  This does

not mean that you cannot address this with your daughter, though.

Something which can be helpful for many families is to set up a structured

homework time, and to require that your daughter complete her homework in order

to earn a privilege later on that evening.  You can read about this, and

other tips, in https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/end-the-nightly-homework-struggle-5-homework-strategies-that-work-for-kids/.

your daughter.  Take care.

Thestruggleisreal I'm just now signing up for these articles, I'm struggling with my 12 year and school work, she just doesn't want to do it, she has no care I'm world to do, she is driving me crazy over not doing, I hate to see her More fail, but I don't know what to do

FamilyMan888

I can hear how much your

daughter’s education means to you, and the additional difficulties you are

facing as a result of her learning disabilities.  You make a great point

that you cannot force her to do her work, or get additional help, and I also

understand your concern that getting her teachers to “make” her do these things

at school might create more conflict there as well.  As James Lehman

points out in his article, https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/stop-the-blame-game-how-to-teach-your-child-to-stop-making-excuses-and-start-taking-responsibility/, lowering your expectations for your daughter due to her

diagnosis is probably not going to be effective either.  Instead, what you

might try is involving her in the https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/the-surprising-reason-for-bad-child-behavior-i-cant-solve-problems/, and asking her what she thinks she needs, and what she will do

differently, to meet classroom expectations.  Please be sure to write back

and let us know how things are going for you and your family.  Take care.

tvllpit Very effective to  kids age of 5, 7, and 11 years old. Thank you for sharing your idea.

Thank you for

your question.  You are correct that we recommend setting up a structured

time for kids to do homework, yet not getting into a power struggle with them

if they refuse to do their work during that time.  It could be useful to

talk with your 11 year old about what makes it difficult to follow through with

doing homework at that time, and perhaps experimenting with doing homework at

another time to see if that works more effectively.  In the end, though,

if your child is simply refusing to do the work, then we recommend giving a

consequence and avoiding a power struggle.  Megan Devine details this

process more in her article, https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/end-the-nightly-homework-struggle-5-homework-strategies-that-work-for-kids/.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.  Take care.

jovi916 I'm a mother to a 10 year old 5th grader. Since 3rd grade I've been struggling with homework. That first year, I thought it was just lack of consistency since my children go between mine and dad's house. I tried setting some sort of system up with More the teacher to get back on track, but the teacher said it was the child's responsibility to get the hw done. This year has been esp. Difficult. He stopped doing hw, got an F, so I got on him. He stared turning half done work, but same grades so I still got on him. Grades went up, I loosened up, then he stopped with in school work. Now it's back to not turning anything in, even big projects and presentations. He had never really been allowed to watch tv, but now it's a definite no, I took his Legos away, took him out of sports. Nothing is working. He's basically sitting at the table every night, and all weekend long in order to get caught up with missing assignments. I'm worried, and next year he'll be in middle school. I try setting an example by studying in front of him. My daughter just does her homework and gets good grades. Idk what to do.

I can hear your concern. Academic achievement is important

to most parents and when your children seem to be struggling to complete their

work and get good grades, it can be distressing. Ultimately, your childrens’

school work and grades are their responsibility. You shouldn’t have to quit

your own studies in order to help them improve theirs. The above article gives

some great tips for helping motivate your children to complete their homework.

We do have a couple other articles you may also find useful: https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/10-ways-to-motivate-your-child-to-do-better-in-school/ & https://www.empoweringparents.com/article/sinking-fast-at-school-how-to-help-your-child-stay-afloat/. We appreciate you

writing in and hope you find the information useful. Take care.

RNM I have the exact same issues with my 8 year old. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. He's a smart kid, he just doesn't seem to care to do his homework let alone if he gets a bad grade as a result. He hates reading, but does More very well in spelling and science. Homework is an issue nightly and the teacher pulled me aside today to tell me again how much he talks in class and that now he isn't writing down his assignments and is missing 3 assignments this week. SMH, I don't know what to do anymore other than to coach him (some more) and take away basketball if he doesn't do his homework.

What?  "Let homework stay where it belongs—between the teacher and the student. Refuse to get pulled in by the school.."  I do not see the logic or benefit of this advice.  Homework, by definition, is the responsibility of the student and parent (NOT the teacher).  The teacher does not live at the student's home or run the house.

In my opinion, the lack of parental involvement with academics often causes the low student performance evident across the U.S.  I do not agree with advocating for even LESS parental involvement.

I completely agree with you. Parental, or adult, engagement at home can be a deal-maker/breaker when it comes to student performance. I subscribe to theories that differ from the author's.

First, if an adult is involved with the child and his activities, then the child will commonly react with "hey, somebody cares about me" leading to an increased sense of self-worth. A sense of caring about one's-self leads to caring about grades and other socially acceptable behaviors (Maslow).

Secondly, I am a FIRM believer in the techniques of behavior modification through positive reinforcement (Karen Pryor). It's up to an invested adult to determine what motivates the student and use those motivators to shape and reinforce desirable behavior such as daily homework completion. A classroom teacher has too many students and too little time to apply this theory.

Letting a child sink or swim by himself is a bad idea. Children have only one childhood; there are no do-overs.

And yes, children are work.

Many experience similar feelings of being at fault when

their child fails, so, you’re not alone. Truth of the matter is, allowing your

child to experience natural consequences of their actions by allowing them to

fail gives them the opportunity to look at themselves and change their

behavior.  We have a couple articles I think you may find helpful: When You Should Let Your Child Fail: The Benefits of Natural Consequences & 5 Natural Consequences You Should Let Your Child Face . Good luck to you and

your family moving forward. Take care.

productive with his homework. He’s lucky to have a sibling who cares about him

and wants him to be successful. Because we are a website aimed at helping

parents develop better ways of managing acting out behavior, we are limited in

the advice we can offer you as his sibling. There is a website that may be able

to offer you some suggestions. http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/

is a website aimed at helping teens and young adults figure out ways of dealing

with challenges they may be facing in their lives. They offer several ways of

getting support, such as by e-mail or text, through an online forum and chat,

and also a call in helpline. You can check out what they have to offer at http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/. Good luck

to you and your family moving forward. Take care.

Thank you so much for your humble support....

It sounds like you have done a lot

of work to try to help your daughter achieve her educational goals, and it’s

normal to feel frustrated when she does not seem to be putting in the same

amount of effort.  It can be useful to keep your focus on whether your

daughter is doing her work, and to keep that separate from whether she “cares”

about doing her work.  Ultimately, it is up to your daughter to do her

work, regardless of how she appears to feel about it.  To that end, we

recommend working with the various local supports you have in place, such as

her therapists and others on her IEP team, to talk about what could be useful

to motivate your daughter to do her school work.  Because individuals with

autism can vary greatly with their abilities, it’s going to be more effective

to work closely with the professionals who are familiar with your daughter’s

strengths and level of functioning in order to develop a plan to address this

issue.  Thank you so much for writing in; we wish you and your daughter

all the best as you continue to address her difficulties with school.

Some gamers claim that their Sim children get taken away when they get an F from school while others only get the Embarrassed or Sad moodlets . Whatever the case, it’s important that your Sim do their schoolwork.

So, how do you go about it? If you need to know how to do homework in Sims 4, below is an explanation for doing homework in grade school, high school, and university.

How to Do Homework in Sims 4 Base Game

All child and teen sims automatically get homework that can be found in their inventory. It doesn’t matter if you made your Sim in CAS or aged them up. To do homework, it all starts with the homework book.

If you have a child Sim, the homework looks like a thin Math book. It is predominantly yellow with an orange border and several shapes on the front, like a circle and triangles.

To do the homework, simply click on the book in the inventory of your Sim and then click Do Homework. Depending on the skill level of your Sim, this option can also appear as Breeze Through Homework or Dominate Homework.

For teen Sims, the homework looks like a Science book. It is thicker than the child’s homework and is in 2 shades of blue with a DNA drawing on the front. To do the teen’s homework, just click on the book and then Do Homework.

Extra Credit

Once your child or teen Sim gets a B in school, this will unlock the extra credit option in their homework. Once the regular homework is done, there is a choice for them to Do Extra Credit.

Homework Help

If you want to help out your child or teen Sim with their schoolwork, you can have an adult Sim do that. Once your child or teen Sim is already doing the homework, click on the adult Sim and then click on the child or teen Sim where you will find the Help with Homework. Or, you can also have the child or teen Sim click on the adult Sim and Ask for Homework Help.

Missing Homework

On the off-chance that you can’t find the homework in your Sims inventory, you can always purchase one through any computer or bookcase, under the children’s category when ordering books. It only costs $1 so don’t go crazy trying to look for your Sim’s missing homework.

How to Do Homework in Sims 4 University

It’s a whole other world of schoolwork at Sims 4 University. Once your Sim is enrolled, the homework book, which looks like a classic composition notebook with a marbled black and white cover, should appear in the inventory.

Here’s where things get different for your Sim in university. For each term, you can take 1 to 4 classes at a time. For each of these classes, you have to do individual homework. So, when you click on the homework notebook, all of the names of classes taken will appear. Click on the class homework that you want to do.

Unlike teens and children, your Uni Sim needs to do their homework ahead of the class, especially if they want to get an A+. It also takes around 2 hours for one homework to be completed, unless your Sim has a high Research and Debate skill or is in a lot with the Study Spot trait.

When you check your Uni Sim’s schedule, you’ll be able to see the progress of their homework, if it is 50% done, just started, or completed.

How to do homework in Sims 4 is pretty straightforward. Again, just click on the appropriate homework book in your Sim’s inventory, then do the homework. If your Sim misplaces it or there is a glitch, just buy another homework from the computer or bookcase.

Make sure you have the best laptop for Sim4 so you can encounter fewer glitches or problems when it comes to homework and the school progress of your Sims.

How to Do Homework Sims 4: Childeren & Teenagers

Make sure your kids do their schoolwork every day after school if you want them to do well in class. Also, they should be in an excellent frame of mind when they come to class.

The Sims 4 makes it simple to master the art of doing schoolwork. The orange homework book will be in the child’s inventory, and the blue one will be in the teen’s.

If for some reason, your Sim doesn’t have the book they need for homework, you can always have them buy one from the bookstore by selecting the “ Purchase Books ” option that displays when you click on a bookshelf.

From Monday through Friday, each of your simulated children will have a new assignment to do. In The Sims 4, all you have to do to get your Sim to complete their homework is  Right-Click  on the assignment in their inventory and select “ Do Homework .”

Employing an older sim to assist with the assignment can speed up the process. Then,  Right-Click  the Sim you’d like to assist with and select “ Help With Homework .” A lot of time will be saved as a result of this.

After completing their assigned homework, your Sim has the option to do extra credit assignments to improve their academic success. After finishing the required assignment, click “ Do Extra Credit .”

Because of this, your Sim’s academic performance will improve the next time they attend class. However, your Sim must have a B average or higher to select this choice.

Having all four of your child’s skills at level 3 is another approach to hasten the process. In doing so, you will have access to “ Breeze Through Schoolwork .”

If you raise your Sim’s skill level to 7, the “ Dominate Homework ” option will become available.

How to Do Homework at University?

How to Do Homework Sims 4

The 2019 expansion pack for The Sims 4, titled “Discover University,” introduces a new form of assignment for your simulated students to complete.

Your Sim’s first semester at college will bring with it the addition of a black and white composite notebook, which will serve as their assignment book.

If you want your Sim to do well in class, assign them homework before they attend class. If you have more than one class per week, your Sim will have to do homework more than once.

To begin working on your University assignments, select the “ Textbook ” icon, then click on the course name whose assignments you wish to complete. You can start & stop as often as you like; you don’t need to finish in one session.

It’s great to know that your Sims will glide through their University schoolwork if they have a high level of research and debate skills.

How to Make Homework Easier

The ability to complete homework assignments alone is insufficient. If you’re anything like me, your Sims will need a helping hand to keep up with all of the demands placed upon them by academics, roommates, social events, extracurriculars, and even the most basic of life’s necessities. In that case, heed the advice that follows.

  • Develop abilities pertinent to their major or coursework.
  • To keep your Sim happy, you should ensure their requirements are met.
  • To create a “ Focused ” atmosphere in your home, decorate with items that convey this feeling (you can see this if you hover over objects in buy mode)
  • Keep other Sims out of your dorm room when you need to study.
  • Develop Your Capacity for In-Depth Study and Convincing Arguments
  • If your roommate is throwing a party, it’s probably best to head to the library or some quiet spot to do some work.
  • Go off-campus and adopt the habits of the students who live in the “ Study Spot .”

How to Get Better Grades in Sims 4

Having your child do their homework is a straightforward method to help them do better in school. The role of homework at school is analogous to that of extra activities in simulation career games.

Having your Sim’s needs handled before they head off to class and selecting the “ Work Hard ” option on their icon photo while in class can help improve their performance.

Enhancing a child’s performance is also possible through cultivating their skills. You can break skills into four categories: cerebral, motor, creative, and social.

If you have Sims 4: Parenthood installed on your computer, your kid could occasionally bring home a school project. In this situation, It will notify you that they have been assigned a school project. Dioramas can be anything from a volcano to a fortress.

Your Sim child’s academic performance and skill development can benefit from these. If a parent is involved in the project, the results will be even more outstanding for the kid. The build and buy option allows you to purchase projects to speed up your child’s grade.

The principal will call the student to discuss their poor academic performance if their grade drops below a certain threshold. If the kid regularly misses school, they will not do well academically.

You can accomplish this by not interacting with them before they go to school in the morning. Also, if you have The Sims 4: Parenthood in your system, your Sims may receive a pop-up from a fellow student urging them to miss class.

How to Get Your Child to Do Homework in Sims 4

As parents, we understand the importance of homework in our children’s academic journey. In Sims 4, ensuring your child completes their homework is vital to their future success. Along with benefiting their in-game performance, it also helps develop their study habits and discipline in real life. However, getting a child to do homework can be a difficult task, especially in a virtual world. This article gives comprehensive tips on how to make your child do homework effectively in Sims 4.

Understanding your Child’s Learning Style

One of the most important steps you can take in ensuring your child successfully completes homework in Sims 4 is identifying their learning style. Children have distinct learning styles they are comfortable with, and adapting teaching methods accordingly will increase the productivity of their study time.

The three primary types of learning styles are visual (learning by seeing), auditory (learning by hearing), and kinaesthetic (learning by hands-on activities). Allow your child to discover what learning style works best for them naturally. For instance, if they prefer watching videos or reading books, they learn better through visual means. If they love music or enjoy listening to lectures, their preferred study method is auditory.

Creating a Productive Study Environment

The environment in which your child studies plays an essential role in the success of their academic performance. Create an ideal space free from distractions and filled with adequate lighting and ventilation.

  • Ensure that the room temperature is comfortable but not too cold or hot.
  • Provide your child with all the necessary materials such as pens, pencils, textbooks and notebooks organized neatly on a table or desk
  • Consider using noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs if the study area is noisy or crowded.

Establishing a Routine

In Sims 4, following a routine is essential to maintaining your child’s academic success. Create a schedule that includes homework time and stick to it. Consistency in establishing study habits will lead to a disciplined approach, creating essential time management skills for your child.

  • Set reminders in-game for when homework needs to be completed.
  • Create a timetable for completing homework based on the type of assignment given by the teacher or sim parents.
  • Encourage your child to avoid procrastination by working on homework tasks well in advance of deadlines.

Making Homework Fun

Homework does not have to be dull and boring; instead, make it more interactive and enjoyable for your child. Incorporating creativity and fun into studying activities will increase their interest and motivation towards studying.

  • Use games that simulate learning, like sim quizzes or puzzle-solving minigames.
  • Enrich their understanding of game mechanics through virtual simulations that allow hands-on experiences
  • Create word quizzes and crossword puzzles to make text-based assignments more engaging.

Using the Power of Encouragement

Children respond positively to positive reinforcement. Practicing effective praise techniques can encourage your child and motivate them to work harder on their homework tasks.

The most effective way is through verbal affirmation. Praise your child’s progress and effort regularly, acknowledging how hard they have worked on specific tasks. Blending in effective rewards with positive affirmations will ensure homework completion doesn’t become a dreaded task but rather an enjoyable activity!

Incentives and Rewards as Motivators

To increase your child’s motivation to complete their homework tasks in Sims 4, rewards can help create a sense of urgency to get things done. These can include:

  • Additions to their in-game allowance or pocket money
  • Extra time spent playing Sims 4.
  • New in-game items such as toys or furniture for their virtual house

Engaging with Teachers or Sim Families

In Sims 4, parental involvement and communication with your child’s teacher or sim family are crucial for academic success. By getting involved with the teacher or sim family, you can gain insight and knowledge into how your child is progressing academically while building a more cohesive team approach that benefits everyone involved.

You can coordinate and role-play interactions with these characters that provide guidance and support regarding homework completion. Involvement in extracurricular activities through Group Study sessions in Sims 4 will also help create a supportive environment aimed at increasing productivity.

Overcoming Challenges

Even with all these helpful tips, several roadblocks can hinder children from doing homework tasks effectively. These include procrastination, lack of interest in certain subjects, health problems or feeling overwhelmed. Be sure to discuss any issues your child may be experiencing and be open to finding solutions together.

  • Help your child break down big assignments into smaller chunks to make them manageable.
  • Find an outside expert who is a tutor for those topics that they might need extra help.

Setting Realistic Expectations

Your expectations regarding homework completion should remain attainable and realistic. Keep in mind that all children have different learning styles, capabilities and personal challenges. Setting high-quality standards is not the same as unrealistic expectations.

Don’t put unnecessary pressure on your child; bear in mind that they need balance in their academic and personal lives. Take into account their mental and emotional wellbeing while balancing both academic workloads and extracurricular activities in Sims 4.

In conclusion, getting your child to complete homework tasks successfully in Sims 4 involves a few critical actions. Understanding their learning style, providing an ideal study environment, establishing a routine schedule, making homework interactive and engaging, using positive reinforcement, engaging with sim teacher or family members for guidance, overcoming challenges, setting realistic goals are all vital tips for success. Implementing these strategies will set up a strong foundation for solid time management skills and help grow self-discipline that will benefit your child both academically and emotionally.

5 Ways To Encourage Your Kid To Do Homework

A re your kids fussy about doing their homework? Do they always come up with excuses to delay their work? Do they hate doing their assignments? If yes, then you might be under a lot of stress thinking about how to get your kids to do their schoolwork. Well, don't panic, we have some tips that you can use to encourage your child to do their homework. Let's get started.

1. Try To Understand Their Viewpoint

There might be many reasons for kids not doing their homework. Being too tired, having low confidence, extensive study schedule daily, having doubts about the topics and not being able to understand the subject, among many others. So, before coaxing, try to understand the real reason behind their unwillingness to do their homework.

Once you identify the real problem, try to find an apt solution for it. Like making them sleep for a few hours after school, taking them out for a break, talking to their teachers to pay extra attention to them, helping them understand the topic, and so on.

2. Do Not Push

Never push your child to do their homework as they will feel that doing their school work is a task that needs to be done, whether they understand it or not. Instead, let them set their homework schedule. Whether they want to do it after dinner, post-school, after playtime, and so on. Let your kid decide. This way your child will be focused while doing their work and understand the topic better.

3. Dedicate A Corner For Your Kid’s Homework

Be on your kitchen island to keep a watch on them or in their room, dedicate a homework station for them. A fixed place will help them focus better. Make sure their workstation has all the necessary items they need for doing their homework like extra notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, and so on. Going back and forth for every small thing will make your kids lose focus on their work and uninterested as well.

4. Ask How Can You Help

You might not be able to help in writing their assignments but you can help them in various other ways, like reading them a science chapter, cross-checking the facts, searching for some information on the net, or simply sitting with them to give them support. Always ask your kid how can you help to make their homework struggle easier.

5. Do Not Use Reward System

It might be an easy way out but not an efficient way to deal with the situation. Reward for work system will reduce your child's intrinsic motivation. Instead of learning to gain knowledge, they will do the work for a reward, which will eventually backfire in the future. Simply explain them the importance of homework and what will happen if they don't do their assignments. Don't scare them, just tell them the consequences like their grades might go down, they might not be able to clear their doubts, and so on.

And never forget to appreciate their efforts after they do their homework. These little things will keep your kids motivated to do their homework.
