God Has Assigned Angels To You (Jacob at Mahanaim)

Angels are on Assignment

If you have been praying about a difficult situation, or find yourself in a space of uncertainty or transition, be encouraged by this prophetic insight from the story of Jacob.

The Holy Spirit is anointing your heart. He is touching your eyes! You will see that right here, right now —in your current circumstances— God is at work.

The Day Jacob Encounters Angels

At a time of great uncertainty, Jacob comes across a group of angels.

Right now, Jacob is afraid. His family and flocks may be plentiful, but his future direction is unknown. He is in a time of transition.

  • Jacob is yet to wrestle with God and receive the new name “Israel”
  • He has yet to confront his past and look into the face of his brother Esau

We read: “Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him. When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is the camp of God!” So he named that place “Mahanaim.”   (Gen 32:1-2 NIV)

God has Assigned Angels to You

Double encampment.

“Mahanaim”. The name means, “double camp” (Strong’s, H4266).

  • Jacob, his family, and possessions are camped there
  • And so is a company of angels

Perhaps, like Jacob, you find yourself in a time of transition. You are “on the way to” something. Or it may be that God wants to speak to you about the place where you are right here and now.

Hear your Father say, “I am opening your eyes. This is a double encampment. Right here, is Heaven on earth”.

Angels are Here…God is Near

When Jacob meets angels at Mahanaim, the “double encampment”, he is on the way to Jabbok, a place that means “emptying” (Strong’s H2999). His self-will is about to be challenged and broken, in a wrestling match with God.

In the meantime, his mind is loaded with concern. Jacob is formulating strategies, to protect his family from his brother Esau (Gen 32:7-8). And he is in “risk management” mode.

Jacob has failed to pick up the clues. “Angels are here; therefore, God is near.”

He is about to have a life-changing encounter with God.

This is Your Spiritual Reality

Jacob passed through Mahanaim, “the double encampment”. For him, it was a brief sojourn. The township endured, and Mahanaim was mentioned in later accounts of Israel.

Like Bethel—another of Jacob’s stopovers—”Mahanaim” is also symbolic of a spiritual reality we have today in Christ.

Right here, right now. This is Mahanaim. You can be assured that angels are camped at your current location . It is a double encampment. The “Heavenly”—that which is of Heaven—is already here with you!

  • You have the Holy Spirit—God Himself with you (2 Cor 1:22)
  • You are a son, a daughter, a citizen of Heaven (Phil 3:20, Eph 3:19)
  • Angels surround you—sent from God’s throne (Heb 1:7,14, Ps 91:11)

Your Prayer Releases Angels

You may have a “Jacob” in your life. Someone who is on a journey, struggling, and needs to encounter God. The Lord wants you to know, that your prayers are powerful.

As you pray, angels are being released. the Holy Spirit is setting up “Mahanaim moments” for others.

These are the prayers God answers, the ones Jesus taught us to pray—not for God to send angels—but for God’s Kingdom to come! For His will to be done (Matt 6:10)

The presence and activity of angels is God answering the prayers of those whose eyes are fixed on Him. Who delight in His Presence . The ones who submit to His rule.

Mahanaim Is Your Constant Reality

We also read in the Bible of a prophet called Elisha.

“Mahanaim” was not just a place Elisha passed through; it was a zone he walked in.

Elisha knew because he was completely surrendered to God’s will, that he was at the epicenter of Heaven’s angelic army. Wherever he traveled, angels accompanied him. [1]

But it’s important to note that Elisha’s focus was always on God and what was on God’s agenda. He was never distracted by angels, and he did not communicate with them.

  • Elisha’s example reminds us that angels are to be kept in the periphery, not the focus of our gaze.

Peripheral vision is what you can see surrounding you, “out of the corner of your eyes”, not what you are directly looking at.

Angelic Power Against the Enemy

One day, Israel’s enemies sent a strong army, with horses and chariots, to capture a single man—the Prophet Elisha!

Elisha assured his distressed servant, “Those that are with us are greater than those who are against us” and prayed, “Lord open his eyes.”

  • The servant’s eyes were opened to see the chariots and horses of fire up in the hillside (2 Kings 6:17)

Elisha already knew that a contingent of angels was there. He knew that the camp of the Lord—”Mahanaim”—was mobile, and traveled with him.

So if you are struggling today. If the spiritual battle against you has been fierce, this is also God’s word to you:

“Those that are with you are greater than those who are against you.”

And, “You, dear child, are from God and have overcome them, because the ONE WHO IS IN YOU is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

[1] Bible references linking Elisha with angels: 2 Kings 2:11, 2 Kings 6:17, 2 Kings 7:6) This account of Elisha is from 2 Kings 6.

Thanks to Prophet David McCracken for the word “epicenter”. He says, “Their [the angels’] central point of focus, their epicenter, was Elisha! They were “around” Elisha. Their geography was determined by Elisha’s geography. Where he was, they were!”

Amen! I recently had cataract surgery and my vision has been out of focus. And my daily prayer for this year has been Thy will be done here as it is in heaven. And I have been asking Father God to open the eyes and hearts of all Believers so that we see what is truly going on and put an end to all the deception. So this word has come right on time! Thank you, God bless you.

I’m praying for you right now, for your eyesight to be fully restored, in Jesus’ Name! Oh yes Lord, open our eyes to see, sensitize our hearts to know you and to know truth.

Well Helen you sure are accurate. I’m battling eye disease big time, my vision getting a beating in spirit and body. Hanging into God’s promises but the Mexico insists it’s getting worse. “Who’s report shall I believe?” John Mellor has prayed for me a month ago..but I so needed encouragement today. Thank you so much Jilly

Jilly, I’m praying for your faith to be uplifted and for God’s power to be released into your eyes right now, for reversal of the disease, in Jesus’ Name. You are His beloved!

Thank you so much for the word of prophecy. I am really blessed by the word of God. May God increase you and your ministry in Jesus mighty name.

Amen and thank you Stella

Yes amen, Kathy 🙂

Hi Helen.. a very timely and encouraging word. 2 years ago as i started formal ministry you ministered in my church over the staff and spoke of Aaron’s rod and spiritual authority on my life. Last month that role finished (unexpectedly) and i completed working this week. Next week i am having a 5 hour spinal operation..(unexpectedly brought forward so i feel like i am in a whirlwind instead of ‘resting’) and i have problems with both hips that worry my recovery.. so in the natural.. yes! Transition, change and the unknown…at the door with a few sore hips thrown in for good measure as well as crippling back and nerve pain which hopwfully will be healed permanantly.. I have been praying for new vision (His) and for new eyes to see. I am a worship intercessor and am hoping to rest in this time just with my Jesus. Pain is a horrible controlling distractor though… and the Holy Spirit can feel so far away. Re reading Jacobs story is a clear reminder God is closest to Jacob at that moment AND he is met by angels along the way! Oh i want to see where God is with me in this! But when your word said we can pray for those Mahanaim moments for others my heart broke open.. one of our sons is wrestling desperately having lost his faith and has invited strongholds into his life.. gambling, drugs, alcohol, love of money etc creating terrible anger and depression…He has moved home with us 6 months ago. He is 20. Whatever my new situation becomes, your word has reminded me i can fight spiritually for Him in this time in prayer until the battle is won as he is called of God! And that his moment with the sovreign Lord is coming! And that wether i can see or feel the Holy spirit in this new and sudden wilderness… He is right here now. Please pray for the eyes of my heart and for my son.And Thank you so much for the word!

Hi Ries, I’m sorry to hear of the issues you are facing and pray for a powerful touch from God before you go into the op and during for absolute mastery of skill in the hands of the Holy Spirit, for it to be a success. And for your son and family situation. I pray that the same move of God my husband and I are experiencing, a sense of being in an environment that is saturated with God’s Presence and activity, a Mahanaim, will be yours! May he encounter Jesus’ personal love for him and never be the same!

Thank you Helen. Praise to God for His faithfulness and new insights into His word! You are a blessing!

How to Work With Angels in Your God-assignment

Submission to the mission, commissioning angels.

But to which of the angels has He ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet?” Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:13-14)
Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word! Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, you who serve Him, doing His will. Bless the Lord, all you works of His, in all places of His dominion; bless the Lord, O my soul! (Psalm 103:20–22)

In Psalm 91 we read about how God dispatches angels on our behalf – to protect us and guard us from harm. Much has been written and discussed about angels over the centuries. People have a fascination with them. We have even named cakes and baseball teams after them! But exactly who are angels? What are their duties? They are mentioned more than 300 times in the Bible and they present sometimes as warriors and sometimes as ordinary people. Join Pastor Gary for today’s study entitled, “Angels on Assignment.”

5 Ways To Put Your Angels To Work

When you are abiding in God—obeying His Word, seeking Him with all your heart, loving Him and others—you have the right to utilize the ministry of angels God has provided. It’s part of your salvation package! He provided these powerful beings to aid you on the earth, to bless you, and to minister to you. If you haven’t been tapping into this powerful, supernatural resource, begin today with these five ways to put your angels to work.

1. Speak the Word

When you find yourself in a situation—one of possible physical danger, one where you need deliverance, or one where you require material or financial help— speak the Word only.  And do so in faith. This allows your angels to minister to you on your behalf—to work for you, to intervene. When you speak against the Word of God, their hands are tied—they can’t move an inch to help you.

Gloria Copeland shares how she does this: “Whatever happens in my life—if I’m in danger—I don’t panic. I stay calm, and I start reciting Psalm 91. I say, ‘God is my refuge, God is my deliverance.’ It has saved my life before.”

Years ago, when she and Kenneth were getting ready to travel to South Africa, many people encouraged them to take security with them because it was volatile there at the time. Gloria responded, “I don’t go anywhere without security. Glory to God. Every time I go to the grocery store, I have security. The Bible says angels encamp around those who fear Him” ( Psalm 34:7 ).

2.Command your angels

Can you really do this? In short, yes. Keep in mind, you aren’t commanding them in the same way you are commanding and rebuking the devil. You are releasing them to do the work they’ve been assigned to perform on your behalf.

You have been given the authority of Jesus Christ, as an heir, and you can command your angels to move on your behalf to carry out the Word ( Psalm 103:20 ). Kenneth Copeland advises saying something like this: “In the Name of Jesus, ministering spirits, I assign you according to  Hebrews 1:13-14  to see to it that I have protection in this car, in this airplane, in this building. I claim this right as an heir to salvation.”

3. Pray for angels

When you ask God to deploy your angels, He will do so.  Jesus said God would have sent 12 legions of angels to His rescue had He asked for them. Prayer will release angels on your behalf ( Matthew 26:51-53 ). Every time you leave your house, ask that angels protect you in every vehicle you ride in, every building you walk in, and every situation.

4. Call on the Name of Jesus

The Name of Jesus catches the attention of God’s angels. They will respond to the Name above all names and come to your rescue  ( Hebrews 1:6 ). The Name of Jesus is powerful! When you’re in a situation where you need help, call on His Name. He’ll send help your way!

5. Thank God for His help

When you trust and believe that God will send His angels to help you (Psalm 91:11), you are receiving their intervention by faith. Thank Him and praise Him because He has given His angels charge over you. Thank Him for providing you with an entire army to enforce what is rightfully yours.

Isn’t it good to know you don’t have to depend on your own abilities for protection and deliverance? Get your angels involved in your life. God’s will is for you to enjoy everything He provided through Jesus on the cross, and He’s provided all the help you’ll ever need!

Watch Gloria Copeland and Billye Brim share how angels are working for you.

Ministry of Angels (Ch. 3, pages 35-48)

Through the inspiring messages brought by angels, the Lord has given me some beautiful insights that I could never have learned by intensive study. When God brought these exciting truths to me, he did not say, "See if you can tailor these to fit into your doctrinal concepts. See if you can fit them into the position you have chosen." He doesn't even act like he knows of any positions! He just said, "This is what is going to happen!"

In the awesomeness of the presence of God's angels, I have often felt like Mary, who said, "May everything you said come true" (Luke 1:38 TLB). When Paul said, "...There stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve" (Acts 27:23), he knew it would come to pass! In the same way, I KNOW that these messages which have come from God's heart are continually robbing hell of its future inhabitants.

These truths are vital and real! The mere presence of these magnificent angelic beings, who come right from the throne of God is so awesome I could never criticize any person for falling flat on his face before one! I would not even criticize those few people in the Bible who had a desire to worship them, even though they did not!

These angels have made simple, basic truths become alive and real to me! They have highlighted, and brought into focus, certain scriptures which could never have been opened to me any other way. These are simple Bible principles which God has allowed me to view through his eyes, but I certainly did not bypass the Bible in order to see them. God put them there a long time ago, but scales on our spiritual eyes have prevented us from seeing them.

Every truth these angelic beings have made real to me, has been supported by the Word of God. After these glorious revelations, difficult truths become simple! How could I have missed them all this time? They are so plain and so beautiful, and every one of these messages highlights the sacrifice of Jesus, for the angels NEVER speak of God's eternal plan without mentioning his death. It's always in the message, somewhere, that beautiful, complete sacrifice of Jesus!

I spent some time musing about these things. You can well understand that you cannot close the door to an overwhelming experience like this, take it out of your mind and say, "Well, now, that's that! I got the message! I've had this experience, and now we will move on to the next phase!"

It is totally impossible! The awesomeness of the experience, and the overwhelming presence of God, are things I cannot put out of my mind even when I close my eyes at night. Because of these angelic visits, there is a subconscious awareness of God, his presence, and his reality at all times. One of the greatest things to me about these visitations has been the fact that they have let people know that God lives, and he hasn't forgotten them.

I do not know if I will ever have another angelic visit. However, these visits have had enough impact on my life that nothing on this earth, or even in heaven, could take what this has done from my heart and my mind! God is preparing people, and in his preparation, he is readying us, I feel, for the return of Christ! He is preparing us, liberating us from fears and bondages, and giving us power to be, and then power to do! God is on the move!

In spite of the fact that he wants us to keep our eyes on the message, and not on the messenger, we cannot ignore the messenger. A feeling of awe surrounds me when I even think about God's goodness in bringing messages to his people by angelic beings.

As I look at an angel and hear him say that God cares about us, I realize it isn't just the angel who stands there. It is God himself who cares enough to bring this message to our hearts.

At times there are things which sound a little humorous in the ministry of angels and the work they do, but there is always a tremendous feeling of awe surrounding them because they come directly from the presence of God, and his glory comes with them.

If there had only been one visit, I would have been completely content because it is an experience of a lifetime. However, several weeks after the original encounter, the angels visited me for the second time, reinforcing the original message given to me. It didn't even stop there, and about five weeks later, just after I had gone to bed, I noticed a bluish glow coming from the staircase. I knew it was too dim to be the light for the staircase, so I thought that possibly I had left a light on in one of the downstairs rooms. I got up, and started down to turn the light off.

I was halfway down the stairs when the light flipped on! Standing before me were two of the largest men I had ever seen in my life! I was shocked! I wasn't exactly frightened, but there was such a radiation of divine power which comes from them dwelling in the brightness of God's presence, that I could not stand up! My knees buckled and I started to fall! One of these huge beings reached out, took hold of me, and my strength returned!

He very simply told me he was the angel Gabriel! I was stunned! Could this be the same Gabriel I had read about in the Bible? The impact of the first visits were far less awesome than now, because here he stood, as clearly visible as any earthly man, and introduced himself as the angel Gabriel! It is impossible to describe my feelings of awe and wonder! Then he introduced me to the second angel whose name was Chrioni! Chrioni? That's a peculiar name. I never heard of that! Why not Mahalaleel, or Tubalcain, or Shadrach, Meshach or Abednego, Asyncritus, Phlegon, Philologus, Sosipater, or Onesiphorus? I had never thought of all the angels having names, and as it turned out, all having different appearances!

I asked Gabriel, "Why are the two of you here?" He merely said that the Holy Spirit had sent them, and then Gabriel immediately began telling me some beautiful truths.

Theologically, I knew that the Holy Spirit was everywhere at once, but it took on new meaning when he told me that the Holy Spirit constantly monitors the whole earth and picks up signals from everywhere at once. He even hears a bird as it falls to the ground, wherever it is! He hears the softest footsteps, and he cares! "The Lord is still in his holy temple; he still rules from heaven. He closely watches everything that happens here on earth" (Psalm 11:4 TLB).

He said that in seeing what is happening throughout the whole earth, he detected a massive build-up of satanic forces who were planning to attack me. The Spirit not only monitors, but sends out orders, so at God's command, the angels were right here in Boise, Idaho, to defeat the enemy!

I was a little concerned because I didn't want them standing around if the enemy was going to attack (I wanted them to be out fighting!) but he said, "We have already finished the job!"

I asked him if they normally come in answer to a call for help. "No," he replied, "if the Spirit waited until you knew about an attack, you would already be in trouble! This is not anything unusual. We are constantly holding back the enemy and putting them to flight!"

Then he asked me to look out the window. I looked, and there were about a hundred of these big WARRING angels standing in the driveway. They had already finished their job an were just casually talking with each other! It gave me a real good feeling to know that God has ways and means of taking care of his people!

Gabriel spoke to me about the enormity of the spirit of iniquity which is working overtime in the world today. There is a sinister attempt by deceiving spirits to get God's people sidetracked from the living Christ. He wants to be a living, pulsating person to every one of us, but because of these enemy forces, some people have taken their eyes off of Jesus and started looking to teachers. Some of these teachers dissect and categorize the Bible until it loses its life. Gabriel said, "Read the Word, feed on it, let it become the Living Word to YOU, not just columns of truths and opinions of men." He referred to Christ being known as a blackboard Christ, a diagrammed Christ, a printed Christ, or even as a flannel-graph Christ. He said that Jesus wants to be known as the Living Christ, coming out the pages of the Bible to us! Hallelujah!

I felt this message was really needed! He added that though study sounds spiritual, some people would always be learning, and never doing, because by the time they acquired knowledge of one type of a study or doctrine, it was out-of-date and they had to start all over again! He said, "Feed on the Word." He repeated, "Feed on the Word!" Don't settle for the dissected Word torn into little bits and analyzed by sections. Keep it the Living Word! This is exciting because there is no substitute for Jesus WITH you and IN you!

He told me about different types of angels, such as praise angels, worship angels, ministering angels, and warring angels. Regardless of their function, their highest purpose is to EXALT the name of Jesus! When that name sounds in heaven or here on earth, they fall face down and worship him because he is so exalted!

One night while Gabriel and Chrioni were talking to me, there suddenly appeared a bluish shaft of pure light about eighteen inches in diameter from the ceiling to the floor of our study room. The instant the light appeared, both angels fell prostrate on the floor. They stayed in a prone position for at least five minutes without a single motion or sound. I didn't know what to do, so I fell on my hands and knees and worshiped God. They never told me what this was, but I feel that just as a bright light appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, this also could have been an appearance of Jesus in the form of a bright light. It was awesome to me!

Some of the unique experiences God has blessed me with are so unbelievable from our human viewpoint that I am often hesitant to share them publicly. Here is one of them: During a visit one night, Gabriel said that God had sent me a little gift for my strength and energy as he handed me a round wafer approximately five inches in diameter and 5/8 inch thick, that looked like bread. He instructed me to eat it; so I did. It had the taste of honey. When I finished the bread, he gave me a silver-like ladle filled with what appeared to be water. I drank every drop of it, and an overwhelming desire to praise and worship God instantly came over me. Rivers of praise billowed up to God, bubbling up out of my innermost being, and for days after I drank this liquid, there was a sensation of "fizzing" inside of my veins. What an indescribably pleasant and exhilarating feeling it was! The effects were astounding because the first day after I ate the wafer and drank the water, I LOST FIVE POUNDS! The second day I LOST ANOTHER FIVE POUNDS! The third and fourth days ANOTHER FIVE POUNDS EACH DAY! Then it tapered off to about a pound a day. I had an excess of "flab," and that is all gone now. When I jogged prior to this, I quickly became winded, but now I have no breath shortage at all. My strength and stamina have been fantastic!

Praise God for his everlasting Word, the Bible, which is our stabilization point for all things, because there is a story in the Bible of the time when Elijah was weak from hunger, and God dispatched an angel to bring him something to eat. After that, he went for forty days and nights without food! God's Word is constantly being confirmed by the fulfilling of scriptures through activities on earth today not unlike those which have occurred throughout all of God's plan.

Another of the many beautiful truths God gave me through the mouth of the angel Gabriel was that everything God has promised is already completed as far as God's book in heaven is concerned. This statement was very difficult for me to understand, so Gabriel took a pencil which I held in my hand, and drew a rough sketch of the picture frame. Webmasters Note: Picture below is from the book.

Everything God has promised is completed in this picture. But, he said, "Here is a tiny little spot representing things unclear to you - things not yet complete. You often spend your time looking at these things until the tiny spot expands outward and fills the frame, and totally hides what God has done. If you look to Jesus instead of the problem, you will see the complete picture." In Is. 43:2 the Lord said, "When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you." If you look at the waters of trouble, it will hide the picture, but if you look to Jesus, that little piece that looks so ominous to you has to shrink back into place and then you will see the whole picture complete with everything that God promised.

Many people have asked me if Gabriel had said anything about the return of Christ. He hadn't, so I asked him if he could tell me anything about it. He replied that Jesus is returning, but the time is something that God has reserved in his own knowledge. Gabriel has access to the timetable on everything else that has been predicted, but God has kept this particular secret to himself. Then he said to me, "I can tell you this: there has never been such excitement and activity in the courts of heaven since Jesus came the first time as there is right now!" Hallelujah!

These angels spoke in a heavenly language and were constantly picking up messages from the Spirit. Often when they would pick up reports, they would laugh and become extremely happy. Obviously, these were reports of great victories that they were celebrating.

As Gabriel was talking with me, Chrioni, the other angel, played with Queenie, tickling her ears, getting her on her back and having fun with her. Queenie lapped it up! I wish she could talk because I would like to know what her impressions were. She has had the rare experience for a dog, and acted as though she thought it was really great!

Gabriel went to the door and reached for the knob. He said he had to leave because of an urgent call of the Spirit, but he said, "I have asked Chrioni to stay here with you during this time while I am gone. I'll be back shortly." It was so strange, because while I WAS LOOKING AT HIM, HE JUST VANISHED INTO THIN AIR. There was no flash, no sounds, no nothing. He just disappeared! One minute I was talking with a very solid, muscular individual, and the next instant there was nothing! All I could see was the place where he had been standing! He had completely vanished!

Everyone seems to be interested in knowing something about the physical appearance of angels. No two of them look alike! They are different sizes, have different hair styles, and completely different appearances. Chrioni has a hairdo much like many men have today, and he looks about twenty-five years old. I do not know what he would weigh in earthly pounds, but my guess would be close to 400 pounds. He is huge, seven or more feet in height, and often wears a brown pull-over shirt and is casually, but neatly dressed in loose-fitting trousers. His shirt laces at the top with what looks like a shoelace. Gabriel often appears in a shimmering white tunic with a radiant gold belt about five inches wide, white trousers and highly polished, bronze-colored shoes. His hair is the color of gold! The reason for the blue glow I had seen earlier was that their entire clothing was radiant, with an iridescent glow! Their skin also had a glow! And those eyes - I would recognize them anywhere! They were like balls of fire, but there was such warm compassion you could actually feel it in their gaze! It seemed as though they looked right through me! I understood what John meant he described his meeting with Jesus in the first chapter of Revelation where he said his eyes were like "flames of fire." There is something about being in the presence of God that creates a glow or shine. When Moses was with God for just forty days and forty nights, they had to put a veil over his face because it shone so much when he came down out of the mountain that they could not look at him! When Moses and Elijah came down to the mount directly from heaven and talked with Jesus, the disciples said they had "glistening" garments. They literally shone!

During one visit, Chrioni said that God had given him permission to answer questions which I might have. I was so overcome, I really didn't know what to ask him! I felt a tremendous awe, and yet there was great joy in his presence. I finally mustered up some courage and said, "I have often wondered what angels do in between the times of their known appearances. Three or four hundred years went by in the Bible without one word having been written about angels. How do you keep from getting bored?" He looked very puzzled when I asked him this question. Then he answered with the deepest, richest voice I have ever heard, "Those appearances mentioned in the Bible were just the times when the Lord opened the eyes of people so they could see us. Because there are always people around for us to take care of, we are busy ALL the time." Angels are beings of eternity. Time means nothing to them! Age means nothing to them!

We talked about different subjects than those I had discussed with Gabriel, and these pertained mostly to their work. He told me about another responsibility angels have, and that is to take care of the wicked and ungodly people. He said, "You can never comprehend the depth of God's love because it is too great!" It is so amazing to see how people can curse and hate God and turn their backs on him, and yet God's arms keep reaching out because he loves them so much. I asked Chrioni to tell me about some of his most interesting experiences. One of the most exciting happenings reminded me of how old he must be, since angels were created before the earth was formed. It concerned the time when he helped lead the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. He said, "God gave us the right to punish the Egyptians and to use any of God's weapons. We threw lightening bolts at them! We pulled the wheels off their carts!" He didn't actually say it was fun, but he did say it was fixed in his mind because of the great deliverance of Israel when the sea was pushed back. He told me of another interesting event when Israel was on a forced march. "The men of Gibeon hurriedly sent messengers to Joshua at Gilgal. 'Come and help your servants!' they demanded. 'Come quickly and save us!' For all the kings of the Amorites who live in the hills are here with their armies.' So Joshua and the Israeli army left Gilgal and went to rescue Gibeon. 'Don't be afraid of them,' the Lord said to Joshua, 'for they are already defeated! I have given them to you to destroy. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you'" (Joshua 10:5-8 TLB). God had decreed that Israel would have the victory, so they had to have the victory, but they were too tired to fight! Chrioni said the angels had orders to intervene, but not to interfere with what God was doing in man's normal course of life. They had a terrific experience when a group of the warring angels made huge ice balls and threw them down on top of the enemy forces!" "And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the Lord cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword" (Joshua 10:11).

Angelic beings are continually ministering to people in many ways in these present days. Many seeming coincidences are really angels on the job! We haven't fully realized God's use of heavenly hosts to get his job done because of our limited information concerning angels. God let Paul see the power of these forces, and also David, who spoke of the tremendous numbers of angels and the greatness of their power. Paul said every one of them is sent forth of God to minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14).

God certainly doesn't want us to worship angels, but he does want us to be aware of them and their importance in our lives today. They are not just stories in the Bible; they are living, active beings working for God in the unfolding of his mighty eternal plan. Gabriel also told me that God said many people would "fantasize" and report, "I saw an angel here, I saw an angel there." He said this would be normal because of human imagination, and because of sincere desire to witness what God is doing through angels, but, he continued, "There will be definite times when people's eyes will be opened and they will see real angels, not just figments of their imaginations." He also said that God and the angelic forces were just as near to people who do not see them as to those who actually do!

I am glad the Lord has allowed me to live in such an exciting day! These are the best days of all history! Things might look dark in some areas, but when you project Jesus over them, they look light. He tells us, "The whole earth is filled with his glory!"

Bible Study on Angels: Biblical Names, Purposes, Nature and More

W hat are the functions of angels?  Do their names have to do with their job?  What is the nature of angels?  What does the Bible say about angels?

The Word Angel

The word angel is an infusion of an old English/Germanic word “engel” and the French word “angele”; both are taken from the Latin “angelus” that basically means “messenger of God.”  The Bible clearly teaches that angels do exist and that we may have actually encountered them or will encounter them during our lives and we either may have realized it only later or may have not even realized it at all.  Hebrews 13:2 exhorts believers to “not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”  The principle is to treat everyone how Jesus Christ would treat them.

The Function of Angels

Angels have many assigned jobs that God has given them specifically to do.  Even though they have free will, they bid to do God’s will alone.   Some angels are assigned to worship God (Rev 4:1-11; Heb 1:6) while others are assigned to minister to believers as written in Hebrews 1:14 that angels are “ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation” whom have sometimes protected the saints (Psalm 91:11-12; Dan 6:22).  Some even feel that every believer has their own angel assigned to them, so-called “ guardian angels ,” although we cannot be 100% certain of this fact (Matt 18:10; Acts 12:15).  There is no doubt that angels have miraculously intervened on the behalf of Christians (Acts 5:19-20) and may help protect them in other ways (Matt 18:10) because Satan and his demons would love nothing more than to destroy us (1 Peter 5:8).  Maybe that is why it’s said that angels are said to encamp around us (Psalm 34:7; 103:21) and there are plenty to go around for every believer.  There are more than enough to help those who are saved because the number of angels is said to be uncountable, which may mean that they’re at least in the millions, if not more (Heb 12:22; Dan 7:10)

Angel Names and their Meanings

The angel named Gabriel means “strong man of God.”

The angel named Gabriel means “strong man of God.”

The angel Michael has a specific rank as he is an archangel.  His name literally means “who is like God?”  The angel named Gabriel means “strong man of God.”  He is also an archangel and like Michael, he has the highest rank among the angels of God.  God frequently uses these powerful spirit beings because they may be needed as they may encounter resistance from fallen angels.  One such experience was recorded in the Book of Daniel where “The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me [an angel] twenty-one days, but Michael [the archangel], one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days” (Dan 10:13-14).  Here was a case of spiritual warfare from “the prince of…Persia” who held back this angel from delivering his message to Daniel in giving him the answer to his prayer.  This “prince of Persia” could well have been the Devil himself, who is also one of the highest orders or ranks of angels and it took Michael the archangel to help get this message through.

Other angelic names are not known and if God had wanted us to know these names He would have ensured that we would have known by including them in the Bible.  The fact that God does not give us a long list of angel’s names seems to indicate that God didn’t want us to focus too much attention on them but to focus exclusively on Him.

Angels are Spirit Beings

Since angels are spirit beings they cannot procreate.  They cannot have children or get married (Mark 12:25; 22:30) since they do not have physical bodies (Heb 1:14).  This does not mean that angels can’t appear in physical form, but it is only when God wills it and not when we pray for it or the angels desire to appear physically.  Angels are always in subjection to God’s will and never, ever operate independently of His will.  One thing about angels is that they are extremely powerful (Rev 18:21).  There was a king in Judea who, when the people boasted that “this is the voice a god and not a man,” an angel who was jealous for the glory of God and He alone should be worshiped, struck him down immediately (Acts 12:21-23).  On another occasion, some sexually immoral men in Sodom wanted to have sinful same-sex relations with two of Lot’s guests and not knowing that these two were actually angels, they blinded those who tried to break down Lot’s door to gain access to them (Gen 19:4-13).

Sadly, people have become preoccupied with angels and there are even monthly magazines devoted to people’s so-called experiences with angels.  There are many that are so engaged in the study of angels that they come dangerously close to worshiping them, which is clearly sin (Col 2:6-19; Rev 19:10; 22:9).  If an angel ever does appear in the Bible, they rebuke anyone who attempts to worship them and state that we are to worship only the Lord God.  It is impossible to know just how many of these stories are legitimate and which are imagined but there is little doubt that many of us may have encountered angels.   We may not have even been aware of it until later or we may have never known at all (Heb 13:2).  If you are fascinated by angels, remember that God alone is worthy of our praise and we must focus on Him and Him only for He will not share His glory with another (Isaiah 42:8).  God does sometimes use angels for our protection but their chief purpose is always to do the will of God.  Unfortunately, there are some that ever pray directly to and even worship angels.  This is idolatry and is a very serious sin for we must only pray to the Father alone, through Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit.  That is the will of God and even the angels of God know this (Rev 19:10; 22:9).

3 Ways Angels Are at Your Service

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Are angels really here to help you? Can you somehow set them to work on your behalf? Find out what the Bible says about how angels are at your service!

Have you heard the stories? Bullets that seemed to go right through someone without leaving a mark, cars that crossed through one another without actually making impact, people in danger transported from one place to another with no explanation. These are just a few examples of the supernatural encounters Christians are experiencing every day—encounters with angels.

What Are Angels?

Despite what is often depicted in books and on television, angels are not little, fat babies with bows and arrows in their hands. They are not soft and gentle with long, flowing blond hair. The only angels we read about in the Bible are big, strong male warriors whose presence often startled those they encountered. They are real. They are powerful. And if you are a believer, they are a vital part of your life.

According to Hebrews 1:14, God created angels to help His people: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” ( NKJV). One of the ways God carries out your protection, His covenant and your deliverance is through angels. You literally have angels at your service.

You only have to see them with your spiritual eyes to know it’s true. That’s what Elisha was telling his servant when they were surrounded by a large Syrian army. The servant was afraid, but Elisha said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16, NKJV). When the servant opened his spiritual eyes, he saw an army of angels and chariots of fire surrounding the entire Syrian army!

Angels were always carrying out God’s plans and purposes in the Bible. They haven’t retired since then, either. Angels are at work today just as they’ve always been. More importantly, they are not flying around up there. They are HERE. This earth is full of them!

You have an angel working with you. He belongs to you. He’ll be with you all the days of your life. He’s always before the face of the Father ( Matthew 18:10 ). Angels are tremendously strong, but they all bow to the Name of Jesus. They are here to add their strength to what you do. You have authority in the Name of Jesus where your angels are concerned.

You’re not in this by yourself! If you haven’t had faith for what angels can and will do in your life, it’s time to open your eyes and see that there are more with you than there are with any opposition you will ever face on this earth. Begin to see through spiritual eyes, and learn these three ways angels are at your service.

 1. Angels Ensure Your Protection

“for he shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. in their hands they shall bear you up.” –psalm 91:11-12 (nkjv).

Do you take your angels with you everywhere you go? It’s true—they follow you everywhere you go, but are you taking them with you spiritually? Are you putting them to work?

Angels are at your service—to carry out God’s will—to protect you from danger and harm. When you plead the blood of Jesus over yourself, your vehicles, your home—you’re employing angels. When you declare Psalm 91 over your life—you’re employing angels. When you speak out, “Angels are protecting me. I send forth ministering angels to protect me and my family”—you’re employing angels.

That is something Pastor George Pearson’s daughter, Aubrey, practices in her life, and it resulted in supernatural protection for her family. Her husband had been traveling, and she and her two young daughters, who were 2 and 4 at the time, were staying at her parents’ home.

One early morning, when Pastor George was returning home from a workout, he found two-year-old Kayelin on the front porch without her pants, crying. It wasn’t until later that they discovered her pants lying next to the pool—soaking wet. This little girl had been in the pool, not knowing how to swim, and was somehow lifted out to safety. Somehow. That’s the specialty of angels—defying natural laws and reason to bring about the will of God—supernatural protection in our lives.

And that protection belongs to you, too. You have an angel in the room with you right now. Waiting to protect you, on assignment to serve you. Are you employing him? It could save your life.

Creflo Dollar has said many times, had it not been for angels, he wouldn’t be here today. Here is his testimony:

“Years ago, I was in a car accident so bad that when the police showed up, they called the coroner. They thought everyone involved was dead. I was riding in a truck with other ministers to a finance convention in Sacramento, Calif., when someone ran a red light and struck the truck we were in. When the car hit us, I saw my angels hovering in front of me. I am confident it is because of them that my life was redeemed from destruction that day.”

The devil has come to steal, kill and destroy, but God has other plans for your life! Furthermore, He has an army of angels to defend your right to enjoy it. Not only does He protect His people physically, but He protects the preaching of His Word, too.

There have been a number of eyewitness accounts of Kenneth Copeland’s angel in action. Each account has described the angel in the same way, just like the first man who saw him, who explained it to Kenneth this way:

“He was the biggest fellow I have ever seen in all my life. The only way I know to describe him is that he looked like Mr. Clean. Every move you made, he stuck to you like glue; he stayed right with you the whole time you were preaching. You’d wind down a little, and he’d lean over and say something in your ear, and you’d get all wound up again.”

Angels are among us. Angels are at your service—to protect you, your loved ones and the preaching of the Word of God. Start believing, expecting and releasing them to do the will of the Father in your life. When you activate your faith, you activate your angel.

Kenneth Copeland shares more about how your angels will work for you.

2. Angels Enforce Your Covenant Rights

“bless the lord, you his angels, who excel in strength, who do his word, heeding the voice of his word. bless the lord, all you his hosts, you ministers of his, who do his pleasure.” –psalm 103:20-21 (nkjv).

Health, protection, financial prosperity—every covenant right belongs to you, and God has given His angels charge over enforcing those rights. Psalm 103:20-21 says that angels excel in strength, do His Word, and do His pleasure. What does that mean? As Gloria Copeland says, “Angels are covenant-enforcing agents.”

Angels are here for a purpose. They are here to establish God’s covenant in our lives. How do we release them to work on our behalf? With our words.

Your words give your angels charge to go prosper you, or to fold their hands and step back. When you confess the Word of God over a situation, you put your angels to work. If you speak faith words enforced by God’s Word, your angels are free to bring about what you want to come to pass (Psalm 103:20).

Even in the Old Covenant, the angel told Daniel, “Your words were heard; and I have come because of your words” (Daniel 10:12, NKJV). Daniel’s words put the angel to work for him. You can do the same. Don’t render your angels helpless with wrong words—speak what you want to come to pass and let them work on your behalf.

When you have a need in your life, speak words that line up with the Word of God, and start expecting your angels to be active in helping it come to pass. Jerry Savelle said, “God wants us to expect accelerated activity of the angels in the last days.”

And it’s true—we’re seeing it more and more. There was a man who had a heart condition, and he had been working in faith with the Lord to receive healing, as promised by God’s covenant. One night, he woke up, and there was an angel standing over him with his hands in his chest working on his heart. He looked at him, and the angel said, “Everything’s all right. Go ahead and go back to sleep.” And he woke up with a new heart.

There is story after story just like it. Now, don’t go looking to see an angel, because Satan will be happy to oblige by manifesting himself as an angel of light to mess with you. But you can expect your angel to work with you. In the meantime, seek the Lord and pray. Say “God, reveal to me how to aid my angels and their work with me and my family.” Angels are waiting to enforce your covenant rights!

3. Angels Carry Out Your Deliverance

“the righteous cry out, and the lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.” –psalm 34:17 (nkjv).

It’s not an exaggeration to say that every one of us, or someone we know, is facing some kind of problem today—some kind of trouble we can’t escape without the help of God. For one person, that trouble may be a disease that medical science can’t cure. For another, it may be financial problems or a family crisis. But no matter what kind of wall the devil has backed you up against, you can count on one thing: God has promised to deliver you.

That’s right. The Word says the afflictions of the righteous are many, but the Lord delivers him out of them all . One way He does this is by giving His angels charge over you. He charges them to protect you…to keep you…to minister to you…to deliver you.

One example of angels delivering God’s people is found in Acts 12 . Peter had been arrested and was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with chains in prison and surrounded by guards. Maximum security. No natural possibility of escape.

But God’s people were praying and believing God for his protection, and “an angel of the Lord stood by him , and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, ‘Arise quickly!’ And his chains fell off his hands” (verse 7, NKJV). Following the angel, Peter walked right out of there past all the guards without a hitch.

You see, when you are dealing with the angels, things like bars, chains, doors and fences don’t make any difference. The angels know what to do. The chains fell off Peter’s hands. Anything holding you back from deliverance is no match for God’s army of angels.

There is story after story where angels have intervened to drastically alter the outcome of situations in the Bible and in our day as well. Some time ago, for example, a KCM employee was riding to work on his motorcycle, when suddenly a big truck pulled across the road right in front of him. It happened so quickly there was nothing he could do. He didn’t have time to think. He didn’t have time to speak. He didn’t have time to do anything.

Many times, that’s exactly how things happen—suddenly. Suddenly, trouble is upon you. It doesn’t tell you in advance that it’s coming, so you’ll have time to fast and pray. You have to be ready. You have to live every day believing God. You have to say continually, “The Lord is my refuge and my fortress.”

That’s how it was with that fellow on the motorcycle. All of a sudden, there was a truck in front of him. That’s the last thing he remembered. The next thing he knew, he was walking around on the side of the road. A few yards away, his motorcycle laid underneath the truck.

A girl who was driving right behind him saw the whole thing. She said when the motorcycle slid under the truck, the man who was riding it went up in the air, did a flip and landed safely on his feet by a fence nearby. His only injury was a scratch on his arm. That is an example of angels at work—delivering God’s people from danger.

But here’s the point. That fellow was ready. He didn’t have time to grab his Bible and brush up on Psalm 91. He was already prepared.

Watch Jerry Savelle share a powerful story about his encounter with an angel.

If you haven’t been getting the action you need in your finances, your health or any other area, look to your words. There’s no shortage of angel power, although you may be experiencing a shortage of Word power on your part. Solve that shortage by putting God’s promises of deliverance in your heart and mouth. Continually give the angels the Word they need to deliver you from any and every harmful situation.

Learn 5 Ways to Put Your Angels to Work here.

Now that you know these three ways angels are your service, start expecting angels to protect you, enforce your covenant rights and deliver you! Say, “Thank You, heavenly Father, for giving Your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.” Once you’ve spoken that word of faith, stand fast. Don’t fear. Don’t waver. Angels are at your service!

Revelation 16:4-11

Revelation 16:4-11 nkjv.

Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.” And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.
