Mental Health Court is a specialty court which offers individuals with bipolar, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder intensive court-supervised mental health treatment. The program is between 24 months to 36 months long.  Initially, you are required to go to court once a week. As you proceed through Mental Health Court, you attend court every two weeks and eventually once a month. You are expected attend treatment and counseling, submit to random drug testing, and be compliant with your medication requirements. If you fail to comply with a mental health court requirement, the court can impose graduated sanctions, which can include community service, modification of treatment conditions, administrative sanctions, or jail.  Participants who are doing well in mental health court may receive incentives. Generally, Mental Health Court is less expensive than supervised probation.
