Introduction to Solutions Partner designations

  • 11 contributors

Appropriate roles : Global admin, Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program partner admin

Solutions Partner designations program was launched on 4 October 2022 when old Silver and Gold memberships were retired.

Silver or Gold membership

If you hold legacy Gold or Silver membership today and if you meet new requirements of Solutions partner designations, then you'll earn new Solutions partner designation and associated customer facing badging automatically without any extra cost. This will have no impact on your Anniversary date or benefits awarded. Learn more about Silver or Gold membership and its renewal policies.

Microsoft Action Pack purchases aren't affected by this change. You can continue with Microsoft Action Pack purchase or renewals as usual.

Solutions Partner designations are aligned to Microsoft solution areas and include incremental benefits so you can stand out from the competition and increase your customer reach. This program is open for both new and old Silver or Gold Partners. There are six Solutions partner designations available for partners. Each of these designations aligns to a specific solution area offered by Microsoft.

  • Solutions partner for Business Applications
  • Solutions partner for Data and AI (Azure)
  • Solutions partner for Digital and App Innovation (Azure)
  • Solutions partner for Infrastructure (Azure)
  • Solutions partner for Security
  • Solutions partner for Modern Work

Qualification for Solutions Partner designations

Eligibility for Solutions partner designations is based on the partner capability score achieved by your organization. A partner capability score is a composite score that quantifies performance across three categories - Performance, Skilling, and Customer success. This score is calculated through measurements based on information that's already captured in Partner Center. Learn more about how this score is calculated .

Partners with the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program partner admin role can track progress toward attaining any Solutions partner designation from the Solutions partner dashboard .

Purchase of Solutions Partner designations

Once you're qualified in one or more Solution Area designations, your status will change to Qualified. You can then proceed with payment to get enrolled into Solutions Partner designation program. Learn more about how to make a payment .

Renewal of Solutions Partner designations

Once you purchase (new partners) or get upgraded from older Silver or Gold to new Solutions Partner designations, you'll be allowed to do renewal. Your renewal window opens on your Anniversary Date (date of last purchase). You'll be able to renew your membership anytime after this date. We highly recommend you renew within 30 days of opening of the window to ensure continuity of your Benefits (Azure credits, Cloud services, or Software). In case you were unable to renew within 30 days, don't worry, you can proceed with a fresh purchase post this period as well.

Partners who meet Solutions Partner designations qualification requirement

New or existing partners can buy or renew their Solutions partner designation membership. You should make the payment and then enjoy the benefits associated with new Solutions partner membership. During the purchase, you'll be presented with options to pick different benefits:

  • Option 1: Opt for new Solutions partner benefits.
  • Option 2: Opt for legacy Gold or Silver benefits (but still enroll in the new Solutions partner program). This option is applicable to only existing partners who had existing Gold or Silver benefits.

Benefits options with Solutions Partner designations

During the purchase of Solutions Partner designations, partners get two benefits options to pick. Irrespective of option you pick, you get enrolled in new program of Solutions Partner designations with badge available for you.

  • Option 1 (available for all): New Solutions partner benefits OR
  • Option 2 (available only for old Silver or Gold active partners): Legacy Gold or Silver benefits (as you had as of 30 September 2022)

New benefits with Solutions Partner designations

To support you as you grow your business, the Solutions partner program has an improved benefits bundle that is aligned to the six Solutions partner designations. If you opted for new benefits during your purchase of Solutions Partner designations, you're eligible to receive the new benefits package associated with that designation.

The three Azure Solutions Partner designations share core benefits and each have incremental benefits. Download Solutions Partner Benefits Guide to learn more.

Specializations impact due to Solutions Partner designations

Earlier to achieve a Specialization, the prerequisite used to be to attain the Gold or Silver competency. However, going forward you need to attain the relevant Solutions partner designation badge to be eligible for Specializations.

Your existing Specialization will remain unchanged until Anniversary Date of these specializations. However, on the anniversary of your Specializations, you must attain the required Solutions partner designation along with the other requirements to be eligible to renew. You won't be allowed to renew your Specialization if you haven't attained relevant Solutions partner designation. See the following section for mapping of Specializations to relevant Solutions Partner designations .

Benefits associated with Specializations and Azure Expert Managed Services Provider (MSP)

With Solutions Partner designations program, we also introduced product benefits aligned to specializations and Azure Expert Managed Services Provider (MSP). If you opted for new benefits during your renewal or fresh purchase of Solutions partner membership, extra specialization benefits are awarded. Look at details in Solutions partner benefits guide .

These extra benefits are aligned with your Solutions Partner designation Anniversary Date. Additionally, there's a capping - maximum number of Specializations allowed to get benefits within each Solution Area:

Mapping of Specializations to relevant Solutions Partner designations

Mapping of solutions partner designations to old gold or silver competencies.

Each of the six designations is mapped to a Microsoft solution area, simplifying partner programs from earlier 18 Gold or Silver legacy competencies. The following table maps legacy competencies to the new Solutions partner designations.

What it means to be Gold ERP Certified by Microsoft

Published on: December 3, 2018

Gold ERP Certified We often brag about having Gold Enterprise Resource Planning Competency and Gold Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Competency by the Microsoft Partner Network. But it’s important that people understand exactly what these certifications do for us.

The redefined Gold Competencies represent Microsoft’s “Best in Class” and are a great achievement for Binary Stream. Microsoft’s recent addition of the Silver competency level has significantly raised the standards for the Gold competency, making it more specific and difficult to attain. The Gold Competency is given to partners that “demonstrate the highest, most consistent capability and commitment within a targeted Microsoft Business Solution area.” The certifications acknowledge Binary Stream’s expertise as an ISV and ERP developer with the ability to develop fully-integrated Microsoft Dynamics GP add-on solutions for the Enterprise Resource Planning industry that provide value.

The Program Binary Stream Software has been a “Gold Certified Partner” of the Microsoft Partner Program for years. However, Microsoft has made many changes to the program over the years. The new competency structure now includes a Silver Certification level, raising the bar for the now harder to reach Gold Certification Level. The competencies are spread among six categories including: Application Platform, Business Productivity, Core Infrastructure, Customer Relationship Management and Enterprise Resource Planning, Cross Platform Solutions, and Small and Medium Business Customers. The changes will help partners showcase their expertise and differentiate themselves from their competition. In order to facilitate this, the new competency requirements now provide greater differentiation with the added Silver level, making Gold Certification higher and more challenging to achieve.

About The Microsoft Partner Network The Microsoft Partner Network is one of the largest, most diverse partner communities in the software industry. It is made up of more than 640,000 businesses, ISV’s and Resellers that work together to provide software solutions and services to Microsoft’s more than 160 million mutual customers worldwide. The program equips partners to transform their businesses and provide greater value and innovation for customers. It focuses on building relationships and sparking innovation between partners as well as providing opportunities to increase skill sets and better serve customers. Certification is given out on a yearly basis.

About Binary Stream Binary Stream Software is a leading ERP solutions provider, developing industry-specific and cross-industry solutions for Microsoft Dynamics GP. With in-depth expertise in streamlining key transactional (financial or inventory) related processes, they are the leading source for enhancement solutions focusing on industries such as Healthcare, Investment Management, Distribution, Manufacturing, Property Management, and Professional Services. Thousands of organizations around the world ranging from small businesses to large public corporations use and see the benefits of their software.

GOLD Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is our next Microsoft competency

netwise

We’re super happy to announce that on top of our existing  four Microsoft competencies , we have just added the next  GOLD competency.  This time it’s Cloud ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) given by Microsoft to the best partners who know how to implement and configure ERP systems in the cloud.

So, now your company can be sure that there’s no better partner in your cloud business applications journey. Here’s the list of our Microsoft competencies:

– GOLD Application Development – GOLD Cloud Productivity – GOLD Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning – SILVER Cloud Business Applications – SILVER Datacenter

Worldwide, business is moving to the cloud. Netwise is focused on supporting its customers moving through, with the best technical capabilities. The new GOLD competency highlights our expertise in providing knowledge of implementation, deployment, and management of Dynamics 365 . Netwise advises on best practices to help businesses make correct future-proof decisions.

Additionally, our Microsoft competencies provide us with early access to new software and specialized technical support and services from Microsoft that help us to deliver the best in class services to our customers.

You can learn more about the  GOLD Enterprise Resource Planning competency on Microsoft official website .

What are competencies? What do they mean to your business?

At Microsoft, every competency is first achieved at the Silver level by demonstrating the consistent ability to deliver specialized services. In addition, a company must have a certain number of employees, usually with a higher volume of said employees passing Microsoft exams and a larger number of customers being helped on their cloud journey.

Business Applications Competencies

Worldwide, business is moving to the cloud. We’re focused on supporting you through this shift to a thriving cloud-based economy by ensuring you have the technical capabilities to meet your customers’ needs. With that in mind, we’re updating several Business Applications competencies, adding a new partner association model, and implementing a tool to give you more visibility into metrics. Our goal is to create differentiated value by recognizing you for driving successful business outcomes.

Review the information in this document to understand how the updates may impact your business and prepare accordingly.

Summary of updates

1. New partner association model—Digital Partner of Record (DPOR) no longer used

We’re moving to a claims-based process to recognize the work you do with customers. Digital Partner of Record (DPOR) will no longer be used to associate partners with subscriptions as of March 2019. Instead, partners with a competency must be associated at the subscription level. You can do this by submitting a claim for Dynamics 365 Online subscriptions.  This new partner association method aligns to the Online Services Advisory (OSA) sell incentives program. This will put partners in control as a recognized partner associated to customers and lessen the dependency on customer actions.

For more instructions on how to submit claims and the latest information please view these resources .

If you were selected as the DPOR for customer subscriptions before February 15, 2019, you don’t need to reassociate yourself through the new claims model. Any increase in seats reported on existing subscriptions will still be recognized automatically, as will seat increases under the claims model.

2. The Cloud Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Competency is retiring October 1, 2020. The last day to attain or renew this competency was September 30, 2019.

The Cloud CRM competency will be retiring October 1, 2020 and is no longer be available for attainment or renewal as of October 1, 2019. If you renewed or attained your competency by September 30, 2019, you will continue to have access to your competency benefits until your anniversary date. To renew or attain a competency you must meet the published requirements and pay the fee. We encourage you to work toward attaining the Cloud Business Applications competency before the anniversary date of your Cloud CRM competency.

3. The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Competency updates effective October 2019.

The ERP Competency has been updated to recognize revenue performance for Microsoft Dynamics 365 NAV , GP , SL , or Dynamics 365 Business Central .

If you renewed or attained your ERP Competency before October 2019, you won’t be impacted by this update until your anniversary date. Starting October 2019, you’ll only be eligible to renew if you’re selling Microsoft Dynamics 365 NAV , GP , SL , or Dynamics 365 Business Central . AX on-premises will no longer count toward any competency.

If your Dynamics 365 business practice does not include any of these products, consider attaining the Cloud Business Applications Competency to differentiate your organization within the growing Dynamics 365 partner ecosystem.

4. Exams updates coming to the Cloud Business Application Competency:

If you specialize in implementation, deployment, and management of Dynamics 365, the Cloud Business Applications Competency recognizes you with specific role-based learning and exams differentiated by applications.

New role-based exams for functional consultants became available starting July 2019 , with new exams being released for developers and solution architects in 2020. Core exams MB-200 and MB-300 will be enforced to attain or renew a Cloud Business Applications competency beginning October 1, 2019.

Many of the current exams were retired with the release of the new exams on June 30, 2019. You will continue to be able to attain the competency based on the retired exams 12 more months after retirement date. You can always check the most current exam requirements by accessing the  Cloud Business Applications competency page  or sign in to Partner Center.

In addition to this information, your Microsoft Partner Network admin will receive an email with details and instructions. Learn more about the certifications strategy for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement and for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations .

5. Cloud Business Applications Competency performance requirements effective July 2019:

Starting July 2019, performance requirements will only recognize Dynamics 365 cloud revenue. On-premises revenue will no longer qualify partners for Cloud Business Applications Competency.

With the momentum of the Dynamics 365 cloud apps in Finance and Operations, only those partners who are driving cloud transformation for customers will be recognized in the Cloud Business Applications Competency.

6-1

6. New Partner Contribution Indicators (PCI)

Partner Contribution Indicators (PCI) provides a holistic measure of a partner’s impact in driving successful customer outcomes and, therefore, greater differentiation in the market. Partners receive credit for key measures of customer success, such as successful deployments and increasing usage, and are rewarded for continuing to invest in and scale out their technical capabilities.

The PCI score, available through Partner Center, is a single number tallied over seven indicators. A maximum of 100 points is possible. We have set a new date of April 1, 2021 for Partner Contribution Indicators (PCI) scoring for the Cloud Business Applications competency to take effect as part of the requirements. Along with that, we are postponing the implementation of the baseline snapshot for the Functional Consultant metric in the new Partner Contribution Indicators scoring from March 31 to October 1, 2020. A minimum of 60 points will be required to attain a Silver level, and a minimum of 80 points for a Gold level competency.

For information about PCI, please Get the PCI overview and review these comprehensive resources .

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Cloud Business Applications Competency

Where can I find more information about Cloud Business Applications Competency?

The Microsoft Partner Portal presents details about the present requirements needed for Enterprise Customer Engagement Option and Unified Operations Option.

Why are the exam requirements so much higher than the previous Dynamics 365 competencies?

We regularly evaluate our program requirements, and we’re raising the bar to meet customer expectations and needs. The updated competency requirements will differentiate our best partners who offer Dynamics 365 solutions for customers.

To qualify for the Gold Cloud Business Applications Competency, can the same individual who passed the Customer Service exam also pass the Field Service exam and count as two completed exams of the 15 individuals required?

No, you must have 15 different individuals who have passed the functional requirements in order to meet that part of the Cloud Business Applications Competency requirement.

Does my organization need a total of 20 individuals to meet the Gold Cloud Business Applications Competency requirement?

No, your organization needs 15 unique individuals. Any five of the 15 individuals who passed the functional  certifications should also pass the technical requirement for your organization to meet the Gold Cloud Business Applications requirement.

Can I choose either the functional path OR the technical path to attain the competency?

No, your organization must meet both the functional and technical requirements of the competency.

Does my organization need to meet the requirements for both the Customer Engagement and the Operations option?

No, you may select either the Customer Engagement option OR the Unified option and then meet all the requirements within either option.

If some of the individuals in my organization already have the retiring exams, will those count toward attaining the Cloud Business Applications Competency?

The retiring exams will continue to count toward competency attainment. 12 more months since retirement date. Check here the complete roadmap of retired exams.

Why is Talent in both options?

The Common Data Service platform is now being leveraged for the recruit and onboarding functionality of the Talent application, and we want to provide the opportunity for those partners who focus in this area to also attain the Cloud Business Applications Competency. This path is more closely aligned to the requirements in the Customer Engagement option of the competency.

Enterprise Resource Planning Competency

Why is Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations revenue no longer counted in the ERP Competency?

The Cloud Business Applications Competency now recognizes Finance and Operations, and we encourage partners with the focus to meet the requirements of the Cloud Business Applications Competency.

Why are there no exam requirements for the ERP Competency?

There are no new certifications made available for NAV, GP, or SL to include in the competency. Dynamics 365 for Business Central certification is planned for release in calendar year 2019. It will be included as part of the competency attainment in the future.

Cloud Customer Relationship Management Competency

If my renewal date for Cloud CRM competency is in December 2019 can I renew this competency before October in order to retain it until October 2020?

If your account is in partner center you may renew the Cloud CRM Competency only during the month of October. If your renewal date falls after October 2019 we recommend that you begin preparing to attain Cloud Business  Applications Competency in order to maintain competency status.

What are Microsoft Partner Competencies?

Microsoft Partner Competency

With the influx of Microsoft products such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central over the past half-decade, the definition of a Microsoft partner and their competencies may have become construed. In this article, we’ll define what a Microsoft partner is, we’ll define what competencies are, show a few examples of these competencies, and what it takes to earn a competency to elevate your Microsoft partner status.

What is a Microsoft Partner?

A Microsoft partner is the bridge between Microsoft and their customers. Microsoft does not sell, implement and support all their products directly and must rely on Microsoft partners to provide these services.

For instance, to obtain Business Central on-premise software, Business Central cloud software subscriptions or Business Central user licenses you’ll need the assistance of a Microsoft partner. You cannot buy these direct from Microsoft. Once purchased, you’ll again need the assistance of a Microsoft partner as Microsoft will not implement the software for you.

Right about now you may be asking yourself, “What about Business Central support? Will Microsoft provide this for us?” The answer is maybe. Microsoft will provide basic Business Central support but due to the large amount of support inquiries turn around time might not be as fast as you’d like. On the other hand, Microsoft partners can provide basic and advanced support with a much quicker turn around time. Also, Microsoft partners have a “direct-line” to Microsoft just incase extra help is needed in resolving the support issue.

Now that we understand what a Microsoft partner is how do you find the best partner to help with your situation? We recommend looking at a Microsoft partner’s competencies.

Microsoft partner competencies provide proof of expertise in certain solution fields. Partners who have obtained a competency, according to Microsoft , join the elite tier of Microsoft partners and stand out from their peers. Competencies can be obtained with either a silver or gold achievement status with gold being the highest achievable level. For example, Solution Systems has had the fortune of obtaining Gold certification in Enterprise Resource Planning, Cloud Platform, and Data Analytics. We’ve also obtained Silver certification in Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions and application development partner. How did we achieve these certifications? By having organization-wide focus on what we do best and maintaining certain performance thresholds established by Microsoft.

What Performance Thresholds do Microsoft Partners need to meet to attain competencies?

Microsoft partners need to demonstrate a high proficiency in three major categories: performance, skills, and customer success. Partners who do not excel in all of these categories will not be able to obtain the Microsoft competency. Let’s dive into this a little bit more.

Performance Qualification

Microsoft performance qualification is made up of two parts: new customer adds and support revenue. To demonstrate advanced abilities within these performance parts Microsoft partners need to outperform 90% of Microsoft partners.

Skills Qualification

Microsoft skills qualification requires partners to demonstrate advanced mastery of the products they are selling, implementing, and supporting. This is achieved through the taking and passing of Microsoft certification tests.

Customer Success Qualification

Microsoft customer success qualification is all about helping the customer grow their business. Partners have to display advanced abilities through successful deployments as well as advanced consulting abilities through customer usage growth.

We've come to the end of of the article and hopefully we've been able to help you understand a little bit more of what a Microsoft partner is and the value of choosing a Microsoft gold or silver partner. Next we recommend you read our article on the benefits of choosing to work with a Microsoft Direct Partner.

Dynamics 365 , ERP

How to find qualified microsoft dynamics partners.

microsoft dynamics partner

Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a powerful business management software suite that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of a variety of industries. Whether you’re a small business owner or the CEO of a large corporation, Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP can help you streamline your operations, improve your bottom line, and make more informed decisions. However, in order to get the most out of this software, you need to work with a qualified Microsoft Dynamics partner who can help you implement and maintain your system.

Not only is shopping for a new ERP system confusing but trying to select the right ERP service provider can be even more challenging. To ensure that you find the best provider for your needs and maximize project success, it’s important to consider a few key factors when evaluating ERP partners.

  • Microsoft ERP Competency: Microsoft offers a range of certifications for Dynamics partners, including Silver and Gold competencies in areas such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). A partner with these certifications demonstrates that they have the skills and knowledge required to implement and support Microsoft Dynamics software.
  • Industry Expertise: When choosing a Microsoft Dynamics partner, it’s important to look for a company that has a wealth of experience and expertise in your industry. Look for a provider that has completed a significant number of ERP implementations for clients in your industry. This indicates that they have a deep understanding of your industry’s specific needs and requirements.
  • Questions Asked: A sign of a quality Microsoft Dynamics ERP implementation provider will be the kinds of questions that they ask during the discovery phase when they’re first meeting and interviewing your team to clarify project scope and project requirements. Do they show insight into successful ERP implementations? This is an important indication of their level of expertise and whether they can deliver a successful ERP implementation for your business. If their questions demonstrate a focus on clarifying your management objectives, organizational goals, and a deep understanding of your industry’s business processes, it is a positive sign that they are well-organized and knowledgeable about your industry.
  • References: While it may seem obvious, checking references is an important step in selecting an ERP service provider. When conducting reference checks, pay attention to whether the ERP vendor has one or more quality references for ERP projects that are similar in size, scope, and complexity to your own project. Having relevant and successful references increases the likelihood that the ERP vendor will be able to complete your project successfully as well. This is because they have demonstrated their ability to handle similar projects and understand the specific needs and requirements of your industry. By selecting an ERP service provider with strong references, you can have greater confidence that your project will be completed on time and within budget, with minimal disruption to your business operations.
  • Consider the Partner’s Size and Location: The size and location of a Microsoft Dynamics partner can also be important factors to consider. If you’re a small business, you may want to work with a smaller partner who can offer more personalized attention and support. However, if you’re a larger organization, you may prefer to work with a larger partner who can provide more resources and expertise. Additionally, you may want to consider a partner that is located near your business, as this can make communication and support more efficient.
  • Look for a Partner with a Strong Support System: It’s important to choose a Microsoft Dynamics partner that offers a strong support system. This can include ongoing training, technical support, and regular software updates. A partner that provides these services can help ensure that your Microsoft ERP remains up-to-date and optimized for your business needs.

Keep in mind that high marks in all of the categories above do not guarantee that you’ve found a great ERP implementation provider, but average or low marks likely mean that you should investigate more thoroughly.

What does the “Enterprise Resource Planning Competency” signify?

The Enterprise Resource Planning Competency from Microsoft is a certification program that provides a way for Microsoft Dynamics partners to show that they’ve met various qualifications for selling and implementing Microsoft Dynamics ERP systems. Achieving this certification on both a Silver and Gold level means that the Microsoft Dynamics partner has achieved (during the last 12 months of being certified by Microsoft):

– a certain revenue amount of Microsoft Dynamics software license sales

– a certain number of consultants that have passed technical Microsoft exams

– a certain number of customer references

– a certain number of salespeople that have passed the Microsoft sales exam
