K-Drama “Business Proposal” Fans Can’t Get Enough Of The Second Lead Couple, Especially After That Kiss Scene

young seo business proposal real name

Spoiler Alert

K-Drama Business Proposal is already halfway through, and viewers can’t get enough, especially its starring couples!

The SBS drama currently premieres simultaneously on Netflix every Monday and Tuesday. The K-Drama follows Shin Ha Ri ( Kim Sejeong , also known as  Kim Se Jeong ), who pretends to be her friend, Jin Young Seo ( Seol In Ah ), on a blind date. However, that blind date happens to be with her company’s CEO, Kang Tae Moo ( Ahn Hyo Seop )! The troubles start when Tae Moo unexpectedly sets his eyes on marrying Ha Ri, still thinking she is her friend.

While the main storyline focuses on the relationship between  Shin Ha Ri and Kang Tae Moo, the second couple has stolen the show. Jin Young Seo, Ha Ri’s friend who started it all, develops feelings for Tae Moo’s secretary and bestie Cha Sung Hoon (played by  Kim Min Gue , also known as Kim Min Kyu).

Unfortunately, due to Sung Hoon ‘s undying loyalty to Tae Moo, he appears cold towards Young Seo, knowing she tricked his friend. So, even after they wind up as neighbors after she moves out of her father’s house, he informs her that he is drawing a line.

Jin Young Seo: Meeting like this as neighbors is kind of fate, so let’s be friends and get to know each other. Cha Sung Hoon:  I’m sorry, but I don’t think that’ll work. Jin Young Seo: What do you… Cha Sung Hoon:  You put Mr. Kang in a difficult position by sending somebody else on the blind date to fill in for you. So, I just don’t think it would be right for me to get to know you personally.

Yet, that doesn’t last long. He continually helps her when she’s in need, whether catching a stalker or helping her get home safely after a night of drinking.

These #BusinessProposal couples are so chaotic 😂😂 And Seonghun breaking that toilet door for Youngseo – they can have their own separate drama and it will be a romcom hit 😂😂 #BusinessProposalEp6 pic.twitter.com/IlL7VcBGBR — Skuujikzky ²⁵²¹ Anna🐰🐶 (@azee_0) March 15, 2022

So, while the main couple has yet to get together officially, their two friends progressed a lot faster! Despite trying to avoid each other, they keep running into each other. So, in Episode 6, they wind up at the same restaurant’s bar. After drinking for a while,  Young Seo uses the opportunity of Sung Hoon’s bathroom break to escape.

Your browser does not support video.

Knowing she drank a lot and was drunk, Sung Hoon  leaves to find her, concerned for her safety. Thankfully, she hadn’t gone too far, and he saved her from getting hit by a scooter.

She’s not so grateful, though. Instead,  Young Seo is confused why Sung Hoon is continually nice to her since he previously communicated otherwise.

Haven’t you been rejecting me this whole time? Why are you being so nice to me? — Jin Young Seo

With liquid courage, Young Seo ends up confessing her honest feelings for Sung Hoon . She also promises to stop liking him, but…

If I’m being honest, I fell for the minute I laid eyes on you at the convenience store. But you were President Kang’s secretary, and you drew a line and told me not to cross it. — Jin Young Seo

He saves her yet again—this time, from falling.

Jin Young Seo: I told you to stop being nice to me. Let go of me. Cha Sung Hoon:   You’ll fall if I let go. Jin Young Seo: Why do you care if I fall or not?

Young Seo is tired of Sung Hoon ‘s mixed messages. So, she threatens to “cross the line” if he doesn’t let her go.

I’m going to count to three, so let go. If you don’t, I’m really… going to cross the line. — Jin Young Seo

She counts to three, giving him the opportunity to release her. When he doesn’t, she leans in and lightly kisses him.

Sung Hoon was initially stunned. Yet, when she pulls away from the kiss, he pulls her back in and embraces her passionately.

While the editors cut off the scene a little too soon for fans’ liking, the preview for Episode 7 lets us know the fire is just now igniting!

The second couple will get even more passionate in next Monday’s episode.

Business Proposal fans were shook by these two and their relationship’s progress. The second leads are progressing more than the main couple! Kang Tae Moo and Shin Ha Ri have not only still not officially gotten together yet, but they have not had their first official kiss except for an accidental peck!

In many ways, the K-Drama is not disappointing Webtoon fans.

The drama is adapted from the Webtoon of the same name, and like it, the second couple got together quickly and had some spicy moments!

If the K-Drama truly does continue to stay true to the source material, fans can expect some hot scenes!

The kiss scene in Episode 6 was a pleasant surprise, especially for those who have only followed the drama adaptation. Considering K-Dramas historically shied away from intimate scenes, it’s refreshing!

Is the Business Proposal KDrama worth watching?

What is business proposal about.

Its a compact 12 episode breezy romcom utilizing classic tropes like the CEO romance and fake dating scenarios with a fresh, modern spin.

If you are tired of kdrama’s exhausting love triangles, this drama wisely sidestepped that and gave us not one, but two adorable relationships with equally toe-curling chemistry. Now that’s how you do romance!

Synopsis ( and your spoiler free kdrama review)

The 2022 kdrama is centered around ordinary office worker Shin Ha Ri (Kim Sejeong - Today’s Webtoon, Uncanny Counter) who frequently helps best friend Jin Yeong Seo (Seol In Ah - Twinkling Watermelon, School 2017) evade blind dates set by her wealthy parents by pretending to be her.

Hijinks ensue when Yeong Seo’s latest date turns out to be the CEO of Ha Ri’s company, Kang Tae Mu (Ahn Hyo Seop - Dr Romantic 3, A Time Called You).

Tae Mu takes a liking to Ha Ri-masquerading-as-Yeong Seo and offers a dating contract so his grandfather would stop sending him on more blind dates. Meanwhile, the real Yeong Seo is falling in love with her mysterious neighbor, Cha Sung Hoon (Kim Min Gyu - Backstreet Rookie, The Heavenly Idol), who is none other than Tae Mu’s private secretary.

With a case of mistaken identity, fake dating complication, and heart-thumping feelings abound, these four characters spend the next 12 episodes trying to reach their happy ever after (spoiler alert: they did!)

Business Proposal Review with some (spoilers a little)

One thing this drama gets right that many modern kdrama rom coms don’t is its willingness to embrace the maturer aspect of relationships. Dating in kdrama is often portrayed as a juvenile act, with people in their 20s and 30s behaving like teens in their first relationship. Business Proposal’s romance is done right: the sexy scenes are smoldering and the couples have healthy communications. It’s probably thanks to the short episode counts necessitating swift conflict resolutions so thank goodness for that!

The script itself is based on popular webtoon The Office Blind Date.

Admittedly, the basic plot is pretty cliched from beginning to end: you’ve got the aforementioned kdrama tropes but also cash-strapped female lead, a rich grandpa obsessed with marrying off his grandson, a jealousy-inducing first love, and nosy but supportive friend group. However, the writing keeps things energized with its infusion of slapstick humor and comedic situations.

Paying homage to its webtoon roots, the editing adds lots of comical devices like split screens, sound effects, and animation in its narrative to build the drama’s cheerful atmosphere. Of course, the drama can’t really avoid implausible plot holes here and there.

For example, it’s hilarious how in the beginning, Tae Mu fails to recognize Ha Ri who works at his company simply because she doesn’t wear thick makeup.

You also have to check your brain at the door regarding the absurd situations the characters get themselves into. Thankfully, the sincerity of the performances and its brisk pace don’t let you dwell too much on these details.

Despite mostly being set in autumn/winter time, the cinematography bursts with bright spring colors, all pastels and warm lighting that enhance the lovey-dovey mood of the story.

One of my most favorite things about kdramas is the way the cinematography captures Seoul with a hazy soft focus and shallow depth of field that paint everything in a lovely cinematic visual.

It just makes you wanna book a ticket to Korea ASAP. All the frikking time! The lovely mood is further enhanced by the peppy soundtrack featuring cheery jazz pop track "Love, Maybe" by musician duo MeloMance and the guitar-heavy "Sweet" by Lee Mu Jin.

drunk Seol In-ah and Kim Se-jeong in businesss proposal

The strength of this drama lies in its core foursome. Individually, the characters are likable, with quirks and flaws that endear them to you. The two pairs of lovebirds – Ha Ri and Tae Mu, Yeong Seo and Sung Hoon – have equally great romantic chemistry that make their relationship progressions so enjoyable to watch.

Let’s start with the characters.

Ha Ri is an honest-to-goodness working girl who loves her job and her friend so much that she often sacrifices her own comfort for the sake of others. Sejeong imbues the character with dorky sensibility and innate comic timing that work great with the character’s goofier side.

In the hand of a lesser actor, Tae Mu’s character can easily fall flat because he’s the typical stone-faced chaebol heir with a cold personality. However, Hyo Seop plays him with warmth and again, a goofier side that never betrays his elegant characteristic. Despite playing the perfect embodiment of everyone’s ideal fantasy boyfriend, he’s never boring thanks to the actor’s animated facial expressions.

At first glance, Yeong Seo may come across as annoying given all the things she puts Ha Ri through. However, the two girls have a genuine sisterly/friendship bond that the show portrays to be equally important to the romance.

This depiction of their relationship really salvages her character because we see how she’s able to really be herself with Ha Ri and her family, unlike at home. She’s also shown to be an independent woman who’s working so hard to escape her parents’ shadows. Later, Yeong Seo’s sassiness plays out really well against her love interest, Sung Hoon.

The last of the foursome, Sung Hoon, is a surprise favorite of the drama.

Typically, the secretary and/or best friend character is only meant to be a foil for the main character. So it is really pleasant to find Sung Hoon getting his own love line and his own existence aside from being Tae Mu’s sidekick. Min Gyu, with his dimpled smile and broad shoulders, truly can go toe to toe with Hyo Seop any day of the week.

His demure bespectacled character’s romance with fiery Yeong Seo pops with unexpected sexiness. No wonder many viewers of the drama enjoy the second pairing’s story more than the main couple (though I personally enjoy both equally!)

Sejeong and Hyo Seop make an adorable pair with their easy chemistry. Her bubbliness juxtaposed with his cool demeanor is something you’ve seen a million times in romance but there’s a reason this formula works every time: it’s just fun to watch opposites attract.

But, the chemistry doesn’t only stop at the romances. This drama’s platonic relationship is one of the best depictions of sis-mance in kdrama.

Their scenes together are hilarious and brims with girlish joy. Even after the girls get together with their respective man, their friendship never falls by the wayside. In fact, it is often depicted as their priorities over their dating lives.

crying in business propsoal

Final Thoughts

Business Proposal is proof that old formulas can still bring new excitement with the right cast, fresh visuals, and attentive writing. It may not offer anything ground-breaking in kdrama storyline but sometimes, all you need is some sweet cotton candy in between all the heavy meals.

In addition to the main cast, an equally popular name in A Business Proposal is director Yoo Jung ( Seo Hye Won ), who is also the cousin of Jin Young Seo ( Seol In Ah ). Although she did not appear much, Seo Hye Won still made a strong impression on the audience with her extremely humorous acting. Kim Min Kyu Talks About Kiss Scene With Seol In Ah In “A Business Proposal,” His Acting Career Role Model, And More

Actor Kim Min Kyu sat down for an interview following the conclusion of SBS’s “A Business Proposal”!

Based on a popular web novel that has been adapted into a webtoon, “A Business Proposal” is a romantic comedy about an office employee who goes on a blind date with her company’s CEO in place of a friend while hiding her identity. Kim Min Kyu starred as the CEO’s secretary Cha Sung Hoon.

In an interview with news outlet Xports News, Kim Min Kyu commented on the drama’s popularity as he said, “Compared to before the drama, my number of social media followers increased by over 1.5 million.”

The actor also revealed that he exercised a lot to suit Cha Sung Hoon’s “perfect and sexy” appearance. “There actually weren’t many exercise scenes, but more were added,” he shared. “When I thought about how to show Sung Hoon’s attractiveness, there wasn’t much I came up with. I thought it would be good to maximize his appeal, so I added a lot of exercise scenes and I worked hard to exercise in various ways.”

In the drama, Kim Min Kyu’s character develops a relationship Jin Young Seo, played by Seol In Ah . On receiving enthusiastic responses from viewers after their kiss scene, Kim Min Kyu commented, “I prepared a lot for the bed scene. I had to take off my shirt so I thought that scene would get a lot of attention, but I had no idea the glasses kiss scene would be loved by so many. People around me even started saying things like, ‘I’m enjoying the glasses boy,’ or using the word ‘glasses’ to describe me.”

He added, “Taking off the glasses actually wasn’t in the script. We tried it once during rehearsal and the director really liked it, and thus a legendary scene was born.”

As for his impression of Seol In Ah, he had previously mentioned at a press conference for the drama that Seol In Ah was like a baby. He clarified, “Seol In Ah needs a lot of attention. She’s the type to fall over and get hurt a lot. I get worried since she gets hurt every time I look away. I said she’s like a baby since I have to look out for her.”

He continued, “We grew closer and more friendly with each other because of that, and I think it showed on-screen. I’m also similar to Seol In Ah in plenty of ways.”

Kim Min Kyu made his acting debut 9 years ago with his role in the tvN drama “Monster.” He pointed to his roles in “Because This Is My First Life,” “Snowdrop,” and “A Business Proposal” as the three biggest turning points in his career.

He then named his “Snowdrop” co-star Jung Hae In as his role model. “He seems to be attractive in every way possible,” he said. “He seems to be getting more and more impressive, from his stance as an actor to his acting skills.”

Kim Min Kyu wrapped up the interview by stating his goal as an actor. He commented, “My ultimate goal is to become an actor that people can believe in and relate to. I’ll try out various genres as an actor, so I ask for everyone’s love and interest.”

‘A Business Proposal’ episodes seven and eight recap: crossing over to the point of no return

**Spoilers for ‘A Business Proposal’ episodes seven and eight ahead**

A fter valiantly appearing at the hotel lobby as her knight in shining armour “boyfriend”, Tae-moo (Ahn Hyo-seop) continues to fawn over Ha-ri (Gugudan’s Kim Se-jong) over dinner with her college friends. His wealth-flaunting gestures and sweet yet clingy ways appear to turn the ladies green with envy, including Yoo-ra (Bae Woo-hee). As the ladies pry further about the duo’s relationship, Ha-ri is surprised at how naturally Tae-moo’s responses roll off his tongue; from articulating what he likes about her to when he first fell for her. She’s even more flustered, however, when he eventually reveals to the ladies that they both work in the same company – and him being the president, no less.

  • READ MORE: ‘A Business Proposal’ episodes five and six recap: can’t fight the feelings

The surprises continue as Tae-moo informs the ladies that he and Ha-ri would be spending the night at the hotel. Already feeling uneasy that her boss was acting as her boyfriend, Ha-ri is even more uncomfortable at having to share a room with him. With her in the suite bedroom and him on the couch, the proximity of being that much closer to each other keeps them both up for most of the night. In the meantime, Yoo-ra – ticked off that Ha-ri was able to net herself such a “perfect guy” – spills the beans about Ha-ri’s new beau to Min-woo (Song Won-seok).

The next morning, Tae-moo continues to go above and beyond: sending Ha-ri a selection of fresh clothes to their room and adjusting his schedule to stay on with her in Sokcho. He even takes her and her friends, including Min-woo, out on his grandfather’s fishing yacht for the day – hoping to see dolphins, which is on Ha-ri’s bucket list. Some tension brews on the boat when Min-woo confronts Tae-moo on the side about him dating Ha-ri, out of concern for his long-time friend. This offends the young president, who warns the chef against “judging his girlfriend”. It eventually escalates into an intense fishing competition, with neither of the men noticing that Ha-ri is unwell until she’s close to fainting. Once back on land, a worried Tae-moo quickly sends her to the nearest hospital.

Back in Seoul, Young-seo (Seol In-a) emerges from her drunken stupor and realises that she isn’t in her own apartment. Vaguely recalling the steamy night she had with Sung-hoon (Kim Min-gue), she goes off her rocker and gets dressed in a hurry, but jabs her heel on his rocking chair just as he returns home with hangover soup in hand. Even after their shared intimacy, Young-seo continues to draw the line between them, asking Sung-hoon to “pretend the night never happened”, much to his disappointment. He drowns his sorrows at his favourite eatery, frustrated at Young-seo’s actions despite knowing how she feels. Sung-hoon thinks back to their first encounter outside the convenience store and how he fell in love with Young-seo at first sight – just as she did with him.

Upon their return to the city, Ha-ri apologises to Tae-moo for all the time and effort he’d wasted in keeping up “boyfriend” appearances. His reply is simple: “I did it because I wanted to”. Tae-moo finally plucks up the courage to confess his feelings for Ha-ri, and chooses to be considerate by giving her time to think things through. His impatience eventually gets the better of him, however, thinking out loud the next day that he “should have given her a deadline” to respond. Tae-moo tells Sung-hoon of his confession, but in the latter’s books, Ha-ri’s radio silence is already considered a rejection.

Over a tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) lunch, besties Ha-ri and Young-seo get each other up to speed on their respective weekends. Young-seo admits that she remembers nothing of her night with Sung-hoon, which was why she’d told him to do the same. Though Ha-ri doesn’t let on about hers at first, Young-seo finds out when she sees a picture of both her and Tae-moo on Ha-ri’s phone. Ha-ri has more weighing on her mind and heart after that lunch, particularly after hearing about how Tae-moo had helped with the peeping tom case, and even thinking back to the earnest, sincere look in his eyes from the night before.

When Sung-hoon runs into Young-seo at their apartment complex’s car park, he coldly informs her that he would forget the night just as she wished, adding that she shouldn’t disregard his sincerity towards her. Following him to his apartment (right next door, of course), Young-seo tries to explain herself as she affirms her feelings for him, while admitting that she just couldn’t remember what happened that night. In response, Sung-hoon renders his earlier comments “null and void”, and sweeps her in for a kiss.

A week goes by after the confession, and both Ha-ri and Tae-moo continue to be on edge as they wait on each other to make a move. Tae-moo finally sees her at a studio when she films a cooking segment with Min-woo, their easy on-screen chemistry irking him to no end. They eventually come face to face along a corridor, and end up making a dash to avoid an angry Chairman Kang (Lee Deok-hwa), still upset that his grandson had broken up with dear “Geum-hee”. As they hide in a corner of a showroom, Ha-ri takes the opportunity to turn down Tae-moo, who responds by telling her that he would never give up till she likes him back. In the heat of the moment, Ha-ri reaches out and kisses a surprised Tae-moo, but backtracks after that and brands it as a “mistake”.

Tae-moo arranges to meet Ha-ri the next evening to talk about “the kiss”. She terms it a “fender bender” because of their inevitably close proximity, to which Tae-moo curtly counters: “Are my lips some kind of column for you to crash into?” He requests that Ha-ri makes up for what happened by buying him dinner, as his own sly way of wrangling another date with her. They head to one of his regular culinary haunts, where Ha-ri baulks at the meal’s expensive price tag. Tae-moo eventually settles the bill, stating that he “wants something bigger” than just a meal, while Ha-ri leaves with two strong impressions: of him deftly playing the piano at the restaurant, and of his luscious lips as he savoured a chocolate dessert.

Young-seo surprises Sung-hoon with a home-cooked meal at her apartment, which, despite her best efforts, doesn’t exactly yield the most palatable results. She presses him for “honest” feedback, which he eventually gives – and doesn’t hold back. This leads Young-seo to complain to Ha-ri over late-night drinks, and even of how Tae-moo had called Sung-hoon while they were on a movie date.

The next day, Sung-hoon takes a reluctant Young-seo hiking and they end up bickering halfway through the climb. Annoyed by the multiple fact bombs from her logical boyfriend, and him not being on her side, she storms off on her own, but goes off-trail and gets lost. Sung-hoon catches up with her, and ends up piggybacking her down the trail after she sprains her ankle. His actions make Young-seo’s heart melt for him all over again, and makes him hurry home instead of going to the hospital, in anticipation of another “steamy night” together.

Tae-moo asks to meet Ha-ri at an amusement park, saying how spending the day with him would be “payback for that kiss”. The duo have fun going on various rides and top it off with a corndog snack, which Ha-ri insists on buying. Tae-moo reminisces about a fond childhood memory of him eating it with his parents, and expresses his appreciation towards Ha-ri for giving him space to relive it briefly. The moment gets interrupted when she receives a call from her brother Ha-min ( VICTON ’s Choi Byung-chan), updating that both their parents were at the hospital – her father (Kim Kwang-kyu) for acute appendicitis, and her mother (Jung Young-joo) for light burns on her arms. They get upgraded to a VIP room, thanks to Tae-moo, who’s made to introduce himself as “Mr Gye” from the Food Product Development Team.

While helping out Ha-min at the fried chicken restaurant, Min-woo accidentally breaks a glass and cuts himself. When searching for a plaster in Ha-ri’s room, he unintentionally spots her relationship contract in a drawer. Later, as he comes across Ha-ri and Tae-moo at a park near the restaurant, Min-woo strides over and punches Tae-moo out of anger. In order to protect Tae-moo from any potential backlash, Ha-ri drags Min-woo away. At a cafe, Min-woo shows Ha-ri the contract he’d found, upset that she had never told him about it. In turn, Ha-ri tells him that this is not something he should be privy to, and asks him to formally apologise to Tae-moo.

The new week starts off with the Food Product Development Teams heading out on their field day, pitting themselves against each other in dodgeball. The stakes are raised for all participants when it’s announced that the event’s MVP would go on a one-on-one dinner with the president. Despite spraining her wrist in a previous match, Ha-ri bounces back big time and clinches the highly-coveted MVP award – and the dinner. However, Ha-ri’s celebratory mood dissipates when she finds out from (the real) Mr Gye that Tae-moo had gone on a blind date. Unknown to Ha-ri, his date is Jo Yoo-jung (Seo Hye-won), Young-seo’s not-so-favourite cousin.

Ha-ri finds herself upset about Tae-moo actually going on the blind date, and going back on his word of how he’d keep trying with her till she accepts him. Though acknowledging that she has “no right” after hiding her own feelings, Ha-ri decides to go to Tae-moo. She finally confesses her feelings for him over the phone, and pleads with him not to go on the date. Tae-moo, on the other hand, turns out to be waiting for Ha-ri at her house, to ask her out again. They both get stuck in traffic trying to get to each other, but eventually leave their respective vehicles and find middle ground at a pedestrian overpass. “If you come any closer, I’m never going to let you go again,” Tae-moo tells Ha-ri, who takes confident steps forward, and pays him back – with a kiss.

Memorable Moments

  • Tae-moo’s major flexes to Ha-ri across both episodes: “Do you know what my love for you and this credit card have in common? Both have no limit” (episode seven) and “Then let me take care of you for the rest of your life, as a man to a woman”. (episode 8)
  • And even after all the “flexes”, Tae-moo sharing the childhood memory with Ha-ri was him at his most genuine. Let’s hope we get to see more of this in the coming episodes.
  • “I don’t say what I don’t mean” – a line that pretty much sums Sung-hoon up in a nutshell, and especially so when he told Young-seo that he’ll ensure she “doesn’t forget” the intimate moments with him from now on.
  • That not-so-subtle bus stop poster promoting the book Me and You? A Book For Those Hiding Your Feelings – certainly one that Ha-ri doesn’t need any more.
